The Football Card Podcast #72: Dez Bryant, Superfractors, and Knowing What to Sell

Hello, and welcome to the football card podcast. This is it. You made it. It's Friday, and you're listening to the fastest growing podcast in the entire world that's centered on football cards and, most importantly, football cards. I'm your host, John, aka Pac Nicholson.

And with me, as always, is mister Stack and Slabs himself. Brett, how you doing? Doing well. Excited to be here. The Football Card podcast is a form of therapy and trying times here in my fandom, so really looking forward to this conversation.

I know we've got a lot going on. It's like a yin and yang relationship here between pack and stack. We've got just, in... At one fan in full rebuild mode where more, things can happen here, maybe even happen by the time this goes live. And then you've got an...

Another fan who I I would imagine we haven't talked about this, but it's gotta be, you know, NFC championship game or bust at this point after taking out the defending Super Bowl champions on their home turf. I mean, expectations in Chicago, all time high right now, John. So, I wish I were you, man. I really wish I were you because it's a fun feeling when you've got just all the hope and all the aspirations, and you watch the team, and you got a good team, and you added a guy. So, living vicariously through your, Chicago Bears fandom.

I just... I... I've gotta do that at this point because if... I just wallow in misery. So, that's how I am.

How are you, my friend? I'm doing alright. Exciting times for sure. It's just... I'm just trying to live in the moment and soak it in.

Because I'm like, this could go away as this... I'm... It's new to me. It hasn't happened. Like...

Or there have been to, like, flash in the pan seasons. 2018, flash in the pan. 2010, flash in the pan. Never sustained success. So I think coming in this season, all I said, I was like, I just want the bears to establish themselves as, like, a contender, a good team, like, prove that last year wasn't a fluke.

I feel like they're doing that. It's so much fun to watch. Since Caleb's come back from an injury, he's just they're so... They're dominating. They just...

They haven't trailed for a single minute in the last three games, and that includes playing the last two Super Bowl teams that... I don't care if they're, like, banged up now or any excuse... Like, they just have dominated both those games start to finish. Ben Johnson is awesome. Caleb's awesome.

Still a long way to go, though. The schedule's brutal. The NFC North's brutal. Like, the bears still have to play the Packers, lions twice, the Vikings again. They go to Buffalo.

They have a game against the Jags. Like, the... It's gonna be a gauntlet just to even, you know, still get to the playoffs. Like, I I trust they'll make it, but it's it's not easy. You know?

NFL is very week to week. And and then, yeah, the big Jeff trade. Jeffrey Simmons. I mean, I know you've watched him up close a couple boy. But he is electric.

That is... He just changed at least for the one game against the Seahawks. Just made Montez sweat better, made everyone better. Just what a presence. Just a game record.

The question for you on that, because I just went through this. And at the time, it made sense because we were at the... On this upward trajectory that was all just fraudulent, of course. But they made the decision to trade two first rounders for Sauce Gardner. And, you know, Sauce Gardner's gotten a lot of shit because he's part of this trade where you're giving up a lot of capital, and a bad team did this.

But he, like, he's a good player. Like, he he is not a game record like a Jeffrey Simmons, but he... He's the... A definitely good man to man corner, that I think most NFL teams would would have. Now you look back on that trade, man, I wish it never would have happened because then we'd have a first round draft pick next year.

But how do you... Like, you're in win now mode. You get this guy. You've already seen him play. You give up two first round picks for this player.

Like, do you have any trepidation that your team has kind of, you know, f them picks for the next two years? Or is it just... Are you so focused on, like, we're just going all in, and I love the fact that we're going all in? Like, what's your feeling there? Yeah.

I mean, when I heard the price at first, I was like, woah. That's a lot. And, like, flashbacks to the Colts trade and just like, you know, I'm like, this can go wrong. At the same time, the bears have their quarterback. Like, they don't...

They're not gonna be drafting a quarterback either the next two years. So, like, that eases a little... Like, defensive tackle and, like, maybe some secondary help is... Those are one of... We're one and two on the list for the Bears needing help.

So in my mind, it's like, okay. With this next draft pick, we're gonna draft a defensive tackle anyways. Would I rather not have a good defensive tackle this year and draft a rookie next year and hope that he's good next year or just have one of the best defensive tackles right now for the rest of this season and next season while Caleb's still on the rookie deal? Like... And they're gonna be late first round picks anyways, hopefully.

So I feel good about it right now. If Simmons gets hurt, it sucked. Like, then it... You know, that becomes brutal. If the wheels fall off this thing, I can see how it can unravel, and it sucks not having the pick.

But I just feel so confident in, like, Caleb and Ben where it's... I just don't see a situation where I'm like, oh, I wish we had this pick next year or the year after so that we could get the quarterback. I think we have the quarterback in. Anything... Any other position you can kind of find in free agency or late rounds.

I don't know. I'm not just focused on now. Like, if they can just... If they won a Super Bowl, like, I'm starting to think some sick thoughts. I'd...

Like, I've... It's never felt like a legitimate thought of, like, oh, this team actually could win a Super Bowl, but I don't know. There's no NFL team right now that I'm scared of. The niners offense scares me if they get healthy just because the bears d is still still the biggest weakness. But there's no...

Ben Johnson's putting up 30 any get... Like, I just... Every time that offense has the ball, I think they can score if they want to. So that's a weird feeling to have, but I don't know. I'm just enjoying the ride.

One week at a time, gotta beat the bucks next week, going to the buy seven and two. That would be awesome. Do you think Baker Mayfield's gonna not have any completed passes and throw for no yards? So that is, like, one of the more interesting stat... I understand the weather elements.

And if you look at the ground game, they hit... There was an insane ground performance by the Tampa Bay Bucs, but I don't know if I've ever seen that from a starting quarterback. I I can't think of one. I mean, there were some... There was, like, a bears, I think, Vikings game where, like, Nathan Vasher had a 108 yard missed field goal return.

Like, the wind was insane, and I feel like the passing stats in that game were abysmal. It was probably like Craig Krenzel or someone like that. But, no, the zero zero completions is a lot. For three. Yeah.

O for three. I wanna I I wanna know just to pivot before we get an opening topic. I wanna know, like, because this is... Collectors are dealing with this maybe in their own circumstances where they feel like they are in a spot right now where their team has a chance to win a Super Bowl. They're feeling happy like you as a Bears fan.

We talk about this a lot about, like, buying in the now and buying in the moment. Like, are you more inclined to pay up and get into the crazy territory on, like, a Caleb Williams card right now knowing that, like, the way you emotionally feel about your team and the expectations that you might have for your team? Like, has that changed the way you're looking at cards or approaching cards at all? Yeah. I mean, it makes me want every time...

I want a Jeffrey Simmons card so bad. But but I want him in the Bears uniform, so I gotta wait a little bit there. But even though they just did a tops now card of him, which this is the first time I'm thinking on. I was like, alright. I'll buy some tops now cards, maybe get the super factor.

Who knows? Caleb stuff, I... I've been buying, like, Luther Burton. I'm kinda, like, finding my other, like, favorite guy. Caleb's just so expensive.

And I have I have, like, five Caleb cards that I really like, and, like, having that core is where I retreat to and, go to. I'm not, like, frantically thinking I need to add more and more and more. I I feel like I've been selective on what I want to add on that front. And so now I think I bought, like, another Luther Burden, like, 2025 finest. I love 2025 finest.

It just looks fun. I love finest. Like, I've... It just checks all the boxes. It's so cheap compared to these other sets, and it's it's fun being able to pick up even like Deandre Swift.

I'm like, oh, this is fun watching him have a good year, and I can get his cards for nothing. So, like, I'm finding ways to collect the current guys and not just spend all my money on Caleb Williams. One final note for me on the Bears and Seahawks game. I was watching the Manning cast as I was watching the game, and they had Urlacher on there. And, dude, I just started laughing every time.

Like, dude, he... That guy loves Rome Adunze. Like, he just kept going. Rome Adunze is a stud. He's a stud.

He just, like... Every time... And it was like a possession where, like, Caleb was just, like, finding him down the field. He kept making plays, but it was... Why I liked it was because you got a legend from a team commenting about the players and the team playing and legitimately, like, it was like I was watching Brian Urlacher be a...

Like, we were seeing him as a fan. Like, I I don't know. Something about that, like, we're so used to seeing these, like, high profile players as, like, analysts, and they have to be, like, you know, stay partisan. And it's, like, it's really fun when you get, like, a player who's, like, there's very few players more identifiable with the Chicago Bears and Brian Urlacher. And to to hear him, like, comment on this team when they're doing good and particularly, like, I never imagined, like, Urlacher would have been, like...

I'm sure he liked Rome, but, like, to get... He was all... He was just all juiced up for Roatan's sake. He wasn't even talking about Caleb. He was just all about...

I was like, this is fun. Yeah. Urlacher, though, Cowboys fan. He admittedly, like, had some... He grew up a Cowboys fan.

I think he's he's coming back around to the Bears because the the bandwagon's jumping right now, but... Or something about Urlacher. Maybe him turning me down for an autograph when I was 12 years old that still burns. But Maybe maybe the fact that he has hair now Yeah. Is just not...

Not... It doesn't feel like it's it's like a different guy. It's not right. It's not right. It is great.

The the content, the... All the national pundits having to bend the knee to Ben and Caleb has been... Is set. It shouldn't matter. I shouldn't care about it, but there is...

It's nice when it's... Everyone's saying nice things. But then on the other side, the pressure and expectations are just rising, rising, rising where, yeah, if they don't win a Super Bowl, if they don't make it to the NFC championship game. I don't know. You can just see how fast the tides turn in this league or, like, things are...

The... People talk about Super Bowl windows and things like that where, I don't know, it can just shut so fast before you know it. Like, even the Ravens right now, how they're talking about Maple and Pards done being a Raven. I'm like, what? Like, that just seems...

You know, a year ago, two years ago, it's like this team, this player, the... This is the trajectory. It's always gonna... It's gonna keep going, and, you know, you find... You get some adversity and some stumbling points, and then all of a sudden, it can just...

It's gone. Yeah. I mean, he... You think about it. It's like he's drafted in 2018.

It is almost 2027. It's like, that is a long tenure with the team, but it feels like he's a type of player because he's so high profile that he would never leave or move, but there's been a lot of bumps along the way. And, yeah, it's like, I think that conversation is very real, so that would be interesting to see how that all shakes out. I I know we need we need a quarterback at Indianapolis. That's for damn sure.

That would be electric. Yeah. And and just the whole... The business side of it, like, I don't know that when they have to extend Caleb Williams, he's gonna get so much money. So much money.

The ripple effect that happens there, and it sucks where... Like, that's why you gotta try and win now on this rookie deal. The... And, like... But, like, Russell Wilson.

Like, what if Caleb's just the next Russell Wilson where he... You know, they win a Super Bowl early, and then he gets a bunch of money, and then they're never able to fully put another team around him. I don't... It feels different. I have so much faith in Ben Johnson.

And so... But who knows? I don't know. It all changes. It can all change fast.

So I'm just enjoying the ride. You said something before we move into the opening topic that, like, hit my fandom. Like, the one part of my fandom right now that I can actually enjoy is, my fandom for Notre Dame football. And so I'm going to Notre Dame Miami this Saturday Oh. Under the lights, try to take down the number one team in the country.

But the CFP playoff show came up, and they had Notre Dame at eleventh, which last year, they had them high the whole time, and then they boot them out. And all my Notre Dame fans are, like, complaining about, like, this fraudulent ESPN show that just is bullshit in its own way. And they're all, like, complaining about, like, the position. I was like, everybody, like, media, just in general. I'm like, everybody.

It doesn't matter. No. You have to go in and you have to beat Miami. That's it. Like, none of this...

Like, quit occupying yourself with, like, being all butthurt about this media thing that's going on where they have Notre Dame at eleven. Like, sometimes you just have to drown out the noise, and sometimes you just gotta go win the game. And so that, like, I feel like as football fans... Dude. And for me, I can't even, like, consume the cold stuff.

Like, I get it, like, passively through texts from people, now, and it's like, I feel like my mental health is a lot better. Like, not sitting there watching people that I don't give a shit about and care about, like, debate about my team and the moves they're making. It's like, none of this just matters. Like, why am I even paying attention to it? So I think that's just a good reminder for anyone.

Like, sometimes we can get ourselves too deep in the rabbit hole of, like, people we don't care about and their thoughts and takes on our team and fandom and situation. It's like, sometimes it's better to just remove yourself from the situation. Yeah. Many a season I've been there where I'm like, I'm just gonna disconnect all emotion to this event that happens every Sunday, and this is actually quite liberating. Like, I can Yes.

Like, I'm not sitting there just... Like, it's I'd honestly rather be a team that's, like, gonna go three and fourteen Yes. Than nine and eight. And, like Dude, I've been nine and eight forever, bro. Probably the worst.

Get bounced in the first round and just be in that perpetual. Granted, I know you don't have a pick next year to, like, reward you for We we might if we if we can if we can garner the the right deal for Jonathan Taylor, we might. So do you. Yeah. If if we...

If I... The ideal target, and sorry, Vikings fans, but it's trading Jonathan Taylor to the Vikings, and the Vikings just doing a plummet. You know? And then all of a sudden, like, we're we're in the conversation or have a potential with one of the, like, you know, top three or four quarterbacks in the draft. Like, that's the that's the dream.

If we're trading Taylor, that would be the dream scenario. Because I don't... If we train to anybody else, like, I'm not saying the Vikings are bad, but the problem with the Vikings are is the quarterback situation. Yeah. That their defense is sick.

They've got Jefferson. They've got playmate, but they don't... The quarterback situation is very dire there. So you could... Maybe if they they...

There's also been the rumors that, like, oh, maybe they trade for Daniel Jones and... Because he was there for a step before he moved to us. I'm like, take them, dude. Like, go take them. So, yeah, that's...

Those those are the types of things we manufacture our mind when we're in this Yeah. Period that I'm in right now. Do you think they'll get a second for JT even? You think something Are you... 100...

If... Dude, if if we're not... The position right now is, like, basically, like, they're looking for the McCaffrey deal, which is, like, a bag of picks, including a second round or, but then there's also, like, the the conversations, like, Carly wants a first if we're trading JT because she's fine keeping him. He's the face of the franchise. It's the classic negotiating.

She knows her position right now. It's like, we've got them under contract. We don't need to trade them. But if you're trying to win a Super Bowl and you need a playmaker and running back, like, you're gonna have to pay up, especially when there's four to five teams interested in them. She's just playing the game.

You know? Yeah. Deadline deadline's coming up. Right? When's the trade deadline?

The ninth? Yeah. Next week. Wow. Yeah.

The tenth, next Tuesday. So this is by... I guess this airs Friday. But we'll know by the next recording if JT remains a cult. I'd like to see him stay a cult.

I don't have a problem with him staying. I love the guy. Yeah. But different... Yeah.

Trying times right now as a fan. I've been there. You'll get through it. There's a light at the end of the tunnel. How about we talk cards?

I got I got a card I wanna talk about. Let's go. Big copy. So I opened up my Instagram one night, must have been, I don't know, Monday night or one of the nights, and I just kept seeing people in the stories talking about this Dez Bryant card. I'm like, what happened?

Like, I don't even know what happened. So I, like, investigated. And upon my investigation, I found out that the second highest sale of a Dez Bryant card happened on Monday, and it's his 2,011 top spinous super factor one of one PSA 10. It sold for 7,500 via best offer on eBay. The card was listed for 10 k OBO.

His top sale, was in May, which was his... A raw... His 2012 finite raw sold for $12,100. So the card got my attention because a lot of people were talking about it. And it was a lot of people saying, like, I made an offer on this, and I didn't get it, which that is so fun.

Like, it is so fun to see, like, a high profile card, and it not be, like, you know, one of the air... Like, a top quarterback or whatever, but, like, seeing all these people who, like, saw the card posted and was, like, 10 k's a price. Like, how do I get this card? And so, like, this is where we all use our comps and mental models and all these things. So that was fun.

But it got me thinking, like, okay, Dez Bryant. Like, why why was the reaction for this Dez Bryant card the way it is? So I I did some looking at Dez Bryant as a... His statistics, and he's just like one of these guys. Like, we built this show around guys like Dez Bryant.

Like, these guys that are phenomenal football players won't make the hall of fame, but are burned into our hearts and minds. So 2012 to 2014, he led the NFL in touchdown catches during that stretch with 58. He was an all pro in 2014, 16 touchdowns. Historically, he's thirty seventh all time in touchdown catches. This is a shocker.

He's number one all time in receiving touchdowns in cowboys history, number three in receptions, and number five in receiving yards. So the question I have to open this up is what does the public reaction say about the subject, Dez Bryant, the card, and the future of rare and scarce football cards of hall of very good players? Couple things. So I think I saw, based on my research, that this sold for 3,500 and then got relisted and sold for 7,500. Okay.

So that's new information to me. I I thought I saw someone put a bid in on... Or a offer on '35 that got rejected. So you're you're you're doing better investigation for work denied. At least if I go to sales and I do Dez Bryant, finest, super factor, there's, like, two sales from November 2.

There's a 3,500 and a 7,000... Or 7,500. So I don't know, you know, I don't know exactly. I'm just seeing those two same day that happened. So that...

That's maybe interesting because I didn't see necessarily the reaction that you're talking about where people, like, the public reaction. Were you saying, like, people are saying this is a wildly expensive price to pay for No. It was... It it was... The reaction was I made an offer for this, and I am pissed off I didn't win it.

Got it. Got it. Got it. Got it. Got it.

And it wasn't just one person. It was like... I just did a scroll, dude. I was like, what is going on? It was like, at least four or five people that had publicly not only made an offer, but went out of their way to post about it.

Yeah. I mean, certain cards will do that to you. Like, just just from a card standpoint, awesome card, great set, great brand. The super factor is super fracking. So, like, 2,011 finest, people love that set.

Then from, like, Des, I I... I'm a priest homes collector. I love a three year run. If a player was, like, operating at the top of their position for a year, even two years, three years, that's awesome. There's probably a ton of people who had him on fantasy, and he was just like a stud.

Like, yes. Like, it... He's one of those players that for a period in time, it felt like he's the best receiver in football. Like Easy. You didn't wanna play Dez Bryant?

No. He was operating at another level. And that was, like, during Calvin Johnson prime era. But, like, something about Dez scoring 16 touchdowns when Calvin Johnson scoring five touchdown. You know, there is there's something there.

Calvin got a lot of yards, but that Dez peak was so memorable that there's probably a lot of people out there who invested, you know, rooting interests into Dez in some capacity, and that makes him so memorable. So, like, I I love players like that. And the price, like, it seems like a lot, but then again, the price is the price for a one of one. If someone... If the right Cowboys fan, Dez fan, whatever type of fan saw this card and needed this card, like, go get that card.

And this all makes the... That twenty twelve finite sale. I remember when that happened. I was like, damn. That's a...

I think that's a good price for that finite. I think Gunther has that. Shout out Gunther. Shout out Gunther. That is that is the That's such a steal of the century.

Such a sick card. So... Yeah. I mean, awesome sale. And, like, what a card.

Twenty eleven finest, super factors are incredible. So I'm I'm pro that everything about this card and this sale. Yeah. I'd... I, you know, America's team, there's a lot of interest there.

A lot of Cowboys fans. A lot of just football fans. When you say Des Bryant, it resonates. The card itself is just outstanding. Twenty eleven finest super factors are some of the best.

The fact that it's a PSA ten two, just perfect perfect card to to list. I'm... The thing that was running through my head is, like, what if this card were on a weekly auction platform? Like, what what would it have done better? I mean, it just based on all of the people that were talking about this card.

And, you know, like, it's a different scenario when you list a card at a... With a price with an, OBO versus the card being at auction. Like, it's... They're, like, two completely different games if you're the individual trying to acquire the card. So, you know, you see the evidence of people bidding on it and goes up, and you're like, maybe I should, like, this is an awesome card.

So that's the only kind of question I'm left with is, like, if this card were up for auction, what would it do? I don't. I think the way collectors think is they would look at this card and be like, well, this card, you can't put above the $20.12 finite. Although, we just talked about that card being a steal, so I'm not sure it would have surpassed that. But would it have hit the 10 k mark?

Maybe. I don't know. But those are those are always the fun questions to think about. Oh, yeah. I think another factor is possibly that Des represents better times for the Cowboys, not championship times, but Cowboys stink right now.

And if I was a Cowboys fan collector, I'd be, dang. Remember that 2014 season when Dez was killing it and the Dez caught it game and Dez did catch it? That should have been a touchdown. Like, the Packers cheated. You know, there's all these different narratives out there.

But I think that, yeah, if I'm a Cowboys fan, like, Dez would be one of those players. Like, we were talking last week. Edron James, if I was a Colts fan, like, Edron like Edge, that's an easy guy to collect. Just a fun, skilled player who dominated. I think there'll always be room to collect those kind of guys.

And I think that'll just continue to... I don't know. As more and more people get into collecting, get into the funnel, I just feel like they'll trickle down and eventually get to a point where when you look at it, like, what's Dez Bryant's best card or rarest card? Whatever you wanna say. And when you see, like, oh, it's around $7,000, and the best Tom Brady card is multimillions, and the best Justin Herbert card is over 1,000,000.

The bet... You know, like, any other player, their best cards are 6, sometimes seven figures, and that you could get the best card of a a guy like Dez Bryant for under $10 is... I don't know. I love that. That...

The fact that they're still laying for that is a lot of fun, I think. Absolutely. Well, the cowboys do stink, but they've got their get right game in Indianapolis this, Sunday. So I don't know. I'm ready.

I think Colts might pull that off. Oh, come on. Pick'em? Pick'em. Let's talk Pick'em speaking of our thoughts on the league.

We have a new, top dog in the football card podcast, Pick'em league. So Knicks basketball PC had been just lording over us for weeks, looking down on us football fans being like, what? It's like the... In Goodwill Hunting, Matt Damon, where he's got the... This is easy to me.

You know? This is easy to me. But he has been surpassed by Lucas, four s's, who has taken the top spot with 72 wins, and Lucas went thirteen and one last week. Wow. Is that...

It's gotta... Is that the best run so far? I think so. At one point, they were 12 and o going into the prime time games. And would you look at that?

Lucas picked the Seahawks over the Bears. The one l. That's what you get, Lucas. Thirteen and one on the week, though, with some other some other big scores. Three teams went twelve and two, including my wife, missus Pack Nicholson, who has now passed me in the standings.

Infuriating too because she didn't even really know. I was like... I had to tell her. And she's like, oh, cool. I'm like, did you understand what...

I'm trying to win here, and you're just flippantly blowing past me? So, Lucas in first place with 72 after a monster week. Knicks basketball PC in second with 71 points. Rock Chalk cards in third with 70. So those those three have a firm grasp on the podium.

One after that, we've got a four way tie at 69 points for fourth, then another couple tied at 68 points. Let's see. Scrolling down, where am... Oh, you and I tied at twenty fourth with 64 points. So you and I are both sixty four and forty two, eight games back.

Damn. That's a lot. At the halfway point. So need need to turn it around. But, yeah, shout out the Pick'em League.

Thank you everyone for participating. This is gonna come down the wire. This is gonna be an exciting finish. I just made my picks for this week, so I didn't forget. I'm just like, I bet I gotta do this so I don't forget.

I know. We talk about it. And I just like... You gotta just get in the flow state and just fire off. Like, okay.

Boom. Boom. Boom. Shout out everyone participating in the pickup. Episode 72.

Wow. We've made it to 72. Shout out shout out the loyal listeners of FootballcardPod. Only one hall of famer ever wore 72 or at least the... What the Pro Football reference website says, but we all know that that website is not accurate all the time.

But Dan Dierdorf is the only hall of famer, turned sports commentator, but, originally, let's see. I I did not look into Dan Dierdorf, but he was an offensive tackle for the Saint Louis Cardinals for thirteen seasons from '71 to '83, five time first team all pro, six time pro bowler. Shout out Dan Dierdorf. I wanted to talk about Ed Tootal Jones just simply for the fact of what a sick nickname. Ed Tootal Jones, six nine defensive end for the cowboys, finished the career with a 106 sacks.

He was a Super Bowl champion, a first team all pro, two time second team all pro, three time pro bowler, a first overall pick in 1974. Just kind of a beast, a legendary figure at Tougal Jones, then, like, made appearances in in pop culture, throughout his life afterwards. He was the guest referee at WWF's WrestleMania two in 1986. And, yeah, shout out to Joel Jones. I put a link in there for his top selling card.

He had a, let's see. It was 78 tops? 78 tops, PSA 10, pop three for 4,200. I love the too tall in quotes on the card. Getting your nickname included in your name on a card is incredible.

This card's sick. And that's like another... Again, we're talking about Dez Bryant, like Ed Too Tall Jones. Just the fact that there are, you know, these legendary players who... Another cowboy who could have had a three year run or a fifteen year career.

The fact that you can get their, quote, unquote, best cards for $44 is pretty cool. So there's just so much opportunity, I feel like, in these football cards. And we've talked about this, like, the high grade vintage stuff that... Of these... All these types of guys that we've been talking about during big ugly autumn and before.

So, yeah, shout out Too Tall. If I'm watching a football life at Too Tall Jones, dude, I... He's one of those guys that, like, you get the grainy video, and he... He's just, like, grabbing guys' shoulder pads and just, like, throw them throw them out of the way. And, yeah, iconic figure of this era.

Shout out, Too Tall. Alright. I am going to be talking about Oostitima... Ose Yumenura. Mhmm.

Better known as Ose Giants two thousand three to twenty twelve. Falcons twenty thirteen to twenty fourteen, two time Super Bowl champ. First time all all pro... First team all pro 2005, second team 2010, 85 career sacks, 35 forced fumbles, 14 fumble recoveries. Fun little story about OC.

During the lead up to the Super Bowl against undefeated New England Patriots, Umenyurra noticed a hidden habit of Tom Brady. He realized that whenever Brady was about to change a play at the line and call out hot, he would point directly at a specific defender before the center snapped the ball. Umenyur studied the film for an entire week, confirmed Brady did it consistently without anyone else realizing, and used it to help the Giants pass rush dismantle the Patriots' high powered offense. So a very intelligent guy, a guy who studies film, they... You know, I had an appreciation for the Giants because they had...

You got OC, you got Strahan, you got Tuck. Obviously, the Colts during that era, Mathison Freeny. So it was always, like, mutual respect with the... Just having guys off the edge. And, obviously, having guys off the edge can lead to a couple Super Bowl wins.

Not a ton of cards, but, this one is his 2003, Topps chrome gold x fracture. These cards are like... This is rookie. These cards are, like, the best. These are classic.

Yeah. My only beef with these cards is that they're a 101 copies of it. This... If this card was, like, 10 copies, it would be the perfect football card, but amazing card nonetheless. Yeah.

I love 2003, Topps Chrome. This... Yeah. That... I think these are out of one zero one.

Right? Yep. One zero one. That... The quality control, though.

The the fact like that Very bad. That you can't get a PSA 10 of these. I do think that's kinda cool that, at least There's one Manning, I think. One Manning, I think. One.

I think it's a pop one. I think Drake had that for a while. I remember him talking about that. These, yeah, these are awesome cards. And the, blacks.

The black for rookies in o three. They did black refractors out of a 100, but the veterans, I think, are out of five ninety nine or 500. But still, awesome card. Great player. Yeah.

The... Yeah. I need the bears to go get Khalil Mack. I'm not done with big Jeff. Go trade a fifth rounder, get Khalil Mack, and then just have that.

Bring him back. Defense... Yeah. I mean, there's smoke. There's been a lot of smoke.

But, because, yeah, there was something about that. That Giants line was just the best with Very good. Puck and his face mask and straight... Yeah. Just good times.

The... A defensive line that's good is a lot of fun to watch. I I forgot. I... I'd be remissed as we're talking about all these prolific pass rushers.

I'd be remissed to not shout out, played it up my alma mater, played on my brother's football team, won two state championships with my brother brother at McGrath card. Shout out Kyle. I know you're listening. Quarterback at the helm, Mathias Kiwanuka. So...

But there's another one. Oh. Yeah. Yeah. There you go.

I I I got the joy of playing a little scout team my freshman year, and, Matthias, I think, I'm still hurting from him tossing me around the field. So... Yeah. That's awesome. You gotta get some cards.

My ask at McGrath cards. He's got a sick Kiwi collection. Oh, I love that. We need to see that. Post it on your story.

Tag the football card pod. We will reshare. Should we get into some questions? Let's do it. Alright.

Let's do it. Alright. First up, from chargers pc sports cards, do you ever feel uneasy regarding the amount of money you've invested slash leveraged in the card market? I can never get out of the, quote, kiddie pool when it comes to buying cards. The risk versus reward scares me.

Great question. Mhmm. This one was the only question I saw in advance, so I'll be coming in blind on the other ones, which is fun. But as I absorb this question, I think every uneasy feeling that I've had about buying a big card has always been one of my better moves. Mhmm.

It's all... That's almost like a... I feel like a rite of passage to buy big cards. It's like you should feel a little uncomfortable. But...

And I think spending lots of money on a card will make you feel very uncomfortable. And I found the more that I do it, the more I the more questions I ask myself. I also think the fact that I am constantly looking at cards. I'm constantly looking at data for my job. And so I think that gives me confidence based on just working in this space that if I see something, spot something, and it's something that I'm passionate about, I'm more inclined to pick it up and feel okay with it.

I think there's a lot of people that follow others and spend aimlessly. Like, that is an observation ever since I've been back that I've noticed. And most of the time, those are situations where the individual loses a lot of money. But I think it's important in my approach, especially when I'm buying a big card. I, like, make sure I never am overextending myself.

Like, any big car that I've ever bought, like, I buy, but it's also, like, I make sure that I I have money to keep my company running, to pay my mortgage, that sort of thing. So, like, I set those parameters. But then also too, and I talk about this all the time. It's like you've got equity in your collection already. So, you've got cards.

It's like, maybe you have to sell 200 cards to buy the $2,000 card that you really want, but might have been timid to buy in the past. So... Yeah. I mean, for me, it wasn't something that, like, I got comfortable with right away. It took a lot of reps and sets.

But the more you get comfortable buying at a certain level, you just kind of, reform the process for the next level, and then it just... It becomes easier. But the feeling of being uncomfortable is I find it... It's scary, but it's always a good signal for me. It's led to some good buys, for my collection.

Agreed. I was thinking that, like, it's... It is a scary feeling sometimes, but the... In hindsight, anytime I've had that feeling, it's a card that I absolutely adore that is still, like, a top grail in my collection. So I'm in...

I'm happy for all those purchases, and I'm glad that I did it. You talking... Because this... We always talk about this big cards and, like, what is a big card? There's never been, like, a definition, and I was...

Because because, you know, it's all relative. It's all personal. All personal, all relative. But it got me thinking of, like, when I was living in New York and, like, renting apartments, there's the whole, like, rent to salary ratio where it's like your total rent shouldn't exceed 30% of your salary. Or, like, there is...

You know, because then you have to, like, renting in New York City is crazy with, like, brokers fees and... Or at least at the time, you know, that they do all these checks and stuff. But, like, a big card, I feel like is... There's probably some ratio of, like, not necessarily your salary, but maybe, like, the totality value of your collection. Yes.

You're getting a card that makes up now 5%, 10% of that. That is a big card to you. And so, again, that's all relative, and don't feel like you're just in the kiddie pool or... I I don't know. I think it...

To your point, it all comes with reps and time where, like, those first big purchases I ever made came from me selling stuff in my collection where it's like, okay. This is, like, avoiding coming out of pocket, on some of these purchases, I think helps. So, like... And then doing the research, having the knowledge, I think, also helps. Like, if you obsess over this, which I think, I mean, Chargers PC sports cards based on your involvement in the football card pod, it seems...

I mean, everyone's thinking about cards all the time. And, like, if you understand this market and just understand trends and whatever collecting, how this all works and are confident in, like, yeah. I've never spent this much money on a card, but I can do so by selling x, y, and z. And I think it's a good purchase because of a, b, and c. Like, go for it, you know, and don't overextend yourself.

Don't do anything super irresponsible. But I think, yeah, trust yourself. Like, if there's a card that, you know, you've been eyeing and thinking about and you can get there by selling a few things, like, yeah, go for it. I remember when I first got back into cards trying to understand and navigate, and I'd, like, meet and interact with all these people on Instagram, and all of them seemed like very normal regular people. And then I'd look at their cards and...

On their page, and then I'd, like, look up, like, the values or try to identify the values. And I'd see, like, these cards are, like, 5,000, $10,000 cards. And it's like, is this just, like, all millionaires? And it's just like, do you look at it now and you're like, no. Like, all of these people had just been collecting cards for years and, you know, gone through the ebbs and flows and then have made the moves.

It's like, in order to move up and play in that space for most people, myself included, it's about feeling comfortable with the knowledge that you have and that you're inheriting along the way and also letting go of cards in your collection that you maybe once loved, but understand, like, it's the next stage of your collecting life. And by selling some of these cards, it allows you to enter the new stage of your collecting life. Mhmm. I understand some people don't want the evolution. They just wanna keep doing what they're doing.

And if that's what you enjoy, that's fine. But if you're ever wanting to move up, typically, because it's not like money grows on trees or all of a sudden we're getting a raise at our job, and we can buy $2,000 cards monthly. It's... It just... It takes selling.

And... Yeah. Yeah. But, anyways, I I thought that was funny. I was like, are we all these guys millionaires here?

Well, yeah. The first time, it's like... Even just thinking to coming back into the hobby. I remember the first time I spent a $100 on a card after, like... Initially, I was just buying $2 cards of player.

I was like, Mike Brown. Mike Brown bears card. Bye. Bye. Like, I was like, I wanna get one card of each player to have him, like, a binder and spending $2, $3, $5 here, $6 here.

And then, like, when I spent a $100 on a card, it's like, what what are you doing? That's a $100. You could do something with that. And then, you know, it it keeps stacking up, and it's exactly like you said. It just keeps compounding over time with your collection.

And I always looked at it like like, Charter's piece... Like, if I'm collecting Ladanian Tomlinson and there's a huge... I have a grail Ladanian Tomlinson card I went to get to one day. And, yeah, like, buying it outright immediately isn't an option. It's just, like, buying other cards is kinda like an investment towards that where it's like, okay.

$200 here. $300 here. $100 here. Like, do that over a few months, and then all of a sudden you have... Or whatever you're able to do, then you have $1,500 of Ladany and Tomlinson cards.

Turn that into one, or or maybe one, you know, stands out and you like it more than you thought. And and just by constantly buying cards through the ups and downs, that's another part. It's like, I don't know. I remember buying cards when every time I was going into card lighter, the thing was, you know, two years ago, three years ago where it's just going down. It's like, why am I do it?

Why am I buying this stuff that's instantly losing value? This shouldn't buying a car. Yeah. This shouldn't make any sense, but then, okay, now that stuff's back up. You know, he's like, you gotta do it all the way through.

It's the whole time in the market, not timing the market. But, yeah, I think it's just keep on keep on keeping on and, like... Yeah. Take the swings, though. Take the big swings.

If you're on the... If what you came here looking for with this question was... And you're like, should I go out and buy this big card and sell these other things? Yeah. Do it.

Just be happy you have the card. I love it. Okay. Next up from Clemson collector. I just wanted to share that I really enjoyed the last two pods talking about shifts in interests.

I found that cards of players when I was a student through the national championship teams are much more interesting and ones I want more than this current era. I'm not sure if it is now being late thirties, general program decline, players consistently transferring or what. Mhmm. I love that I can now get cards of more players because of NIL, but I only want one of most in my PC versus lots of guys like Spiller, Daines Adams, Taj Boyd, etcetera. The lamenting of how to collect and represent the down years has been great to listen to.

I found myself going more into two thousand's chrome finest and autos of players I like from that era instead, and it has been a nice pivot on spending. So not necessarily a question here, but I shout out you for listening, first off, and thank you, for the commentary. But I do think... Just curious if you had any additional commentary on, you know, just kinda, like, shifting interests, shifting eras, pivoting on things. We...

We've talked about that a lot, but curious if, right, you had any other additional insights. First comment is Gaines Adams. That's such a name. Yeah. Oh, man.

Such a draft prospect. Love that call out. I think I'm a big fan of just going with your gut and just trusting your instinct. And if you're not enjoying it and it sucks, even if you have an allegiance to the program or to your team, just get out of that. Like, stop wallowing in that shit.

Like, it is supposed to be fun. Make moves. That's what makes this hobby so fun. When you make these moves, it affords you the opportunity in capital. Go focus in national championship team.

Focus. Go Yep. All in on that. Find the rare and scarce cards in that era. Specialize.

And going through that process where it it it feels like... To me, it feels like, a new beginning, and I I love that. And so I am not having a great time right now as a Colts fan. It's like, I don't wanna, like, go hang out with my cards because it's a time I really enjoy and, like, be reminded of it. And it was also...

It's time for a change. Enough is enough. So, yeah, I'm enjoying it. But, like, I don't have, like, a plan. Like, I'm I'm forming it in real time.

So I don't know. I I... I'm... I like movement. I like change a lot.

So that'd be be my recommendation. It sounds like you already know what you wanna do. Just like go all in on on those championship teams and find the best of the best cards. It's... I think it sounds like that's where the opportunity is for you.

Yeah. Even just a quick Google search of notable Clemson players currently in the NFL. You got T Law, but then DeAndre Hopkins, Tee Higgins, Dexter Lawrence, Grady Jarrett. Like, I forgot there's some... I forgot Dexter Lawrence was on Clemson.

Like, I don't know. Fun players, all sorts of lanes you can go down. To me, it's all about, yeah, finding that project. Like, okay. I wanna get one card from everyone from that certain championship team.

And, like, is there, you know, some way to, like, put that together? I saw, you know, I saw a post somewhere. I should have screenshotted it to give the person credit, so forgive me. But they had, like, a display of, like, a year they won a fantasy football championship. They got a card of each player, from, like, the same set and same parallel.

It was, like, numbered out of 99. But the number of the card that they got was the amount of points that the player scored them in the championship game. No way. So if, like, DeAndre Hopkins scored 17 points in the championship game for them, they got the number 17 out of 99 copy. And just like what I...

I was obsessed with that idea. I was like, that is so cool. Like, what a way to commemorate this moment and to do something specific that then becomes, like, you know, for a parallel whatever's out of 99 anymore of, like, I bet you could get those cards for $5. But the the hunt to get that specific number has gotta be so much fun and probably frustrating at times. But, again, just back to the idea of if this current team's pissing you off and bumming you out, which that happens to any of us as fans.

Yeah. Find that find that time when that program did bring you joy and, like, zero in on something that is is fun to you and and come up with, like, a fun angle for it. I think that's... Yeah. And following your gut is key.

It reminds me of, like, trying to play, like, a sports card version of, like, Powerball. It's like every time you're, like, looking at your saved searches, you're like, oh my god. Please be 17. Please be 17. Yeah.

And then you know it's you know it's just in a dollar box or, like, it's not even worth listing to someone. So it's like you gotta find the right parallel that it's like, alright. If someone finds one of these, they're gonna put it on eBay, not something that ends up in the dollar box. So I don't know. I just thought what a cool way for someone to, like, have a reason to, like, collect random cards.

So Amazing. And... Alright. Last up from Drake's PC. I'd love to hear you compare and contrast two different approaches to building a player collection.

Approach one, actively buying and selling cards of players you don't personally collect with the goal of generating profits to reinvest into your PC. Approach two, exclusively buying and selling cards of the player or players you collect using those transactions to continually upgrade and refine your PC. What do you see as the biggest advantages and disadvantages of each strategy, particularly when it comes to financial risk, market knowledge, enjoyment of the hobby, and long term collection growth? Ultimately, which approach do you think is more effective for building a meaningful high quality player collection over time? Approach two all the way for me, I would never have any interest in approach one that feels like a lot of trend chasing.

It feels like a... Like flipper content, like that stuff. It's just like that has zero interest to me. Like, one thing I can't do is I cannot spend money on cards of players I don't care about. I just can't.

So for me, that wouldn't be successful. I like approach to where you're, like, buying stuff that you love. And when you buy stuff that you love, you have a deeper understanding. You can study it. You know the markets better.

And, yeah, it sucks to give up those cards. But if you have a pathway into... And you have goal set on what you want to achieve, that's what I think is fun. Like, I never thought, like, I would sell some of these cults finites that I'm selling, but it's like, I own them. It was fun.

Now I'm moving on to other things. But I was just saying to you that, like, I had some of these end in weekly auction, and it's like they... I was a winner on all of them, like, from a from, like, a financial perspective because I bought cards that I knew and I loved, and I sat on them for a long period of time. And based on that, like, my results were good, and I didn't lose money on them. So I don't know.

Like, approach two is, like, I will only do approach two. I will never buy cards of players that I don't care about or sets that I don't care about. That's boring to me. And at... Like, I think, like, we as collectors need to get comfortable with this, like, feeling and this thought of, like, the cards aren't going to be in your collections forever.

Like, when we buy these cards, I think we want them to be, but because of the activity, because of we're ambitious people, and because we have bigger aspirations, because there's money is only limited, like, is... There's only so much. Like, the viewpoint that I'm taking right now with my cards in my collection is that, like, I'm enjoying these, and I want them to stay for as long as possible. But there are no rules, and I create the rules. And, like, the rules might might be for next month that I need to get rid of a couple cards because this card that I can't afford out of pocket popped up and I can't stop thinking about.

So, yeah, that's approach two all the way, Drake. See, I'm I'm pro approach one. But not in, like, a flipper mindset, I guess. It's more... Again, I have, like, so many different projects or lanes that I feel like to take it back to the Tony Hawk or Madden sliders of, like, you know, turning the passion up on some.

Like, Priest Holmes for me is, like, a 10 on the passion scale. Then the Bears, like, that's its own thing. But, like, I'm thinking of, like, players. But there are certain projects where twenty thirteen select basketball, for example, for me, I recently sold two cards from that that I love that set. I love the golds.

I have a bunch of them. But I sold the Damian Lillard and the James Harden, to buy the Priess Holmes Super Factor because I was like, I don't care about Damian Lillard or James Harden, but I love that set in parallel. And I'm glad that I had those to be able to sell for a Priess Holmes one so that I didn't have to sell my... Like, I would've had to sell every Priess Holmes card I had to be able to get the Super factor. So maybe our definitions are different because I would classify that as approach two because...

And maybe I didn't read all of Drake's words because you love the set. Yeah. Well, he was just saying buying, selling cards of players. Like, he was keeping it, I guess, on player collecting. Okay.

I understand. I hear I hear you saying, though, like, the passion is there to me for that set, but then they're like... When it came down to it, I'm like, I'd rather have the awesome Priest Holmes card than the awesome Damian Lillard card because I like Priest Holmes. And Sure. So I was okay.

So... And But but you had a method to your mat. Like, there... There's, like, there was some strategy that you had in... Have in place there.

There is, but I guess what I'm getting at is if I only... If I wanted to collect Peyton Manning and all I did was buy patent cards, I think I'd have a harder time selling... If if every time I wanna get a new patent card, I had to sell a patent card, that would hurt. I like having other pools that I can pull from where, like, if I wanna buy a new priest homes card, I don't have to sell other priest cards. I can look at my other collections and skim off the bottom there where, okay, I'm gonna sell the bottom of some of my bears guys, the bottom of this select set, and the bottom of o two five...

You know, whatever my lanes are to get the top of something else. It's kinda how I get it. Yeah. I think about it. So, like...

Because how I took it is him asking, like, again, if I'm a new collector and I wanna collect patent, would I... Every single card I buy be a patent card? To me, no. I would be doing... I would still have multiple categories because then you're kinda, like, testing out different lanes.

And then when a card in one of those lanes pops up, you you kinda have to have that judgment day with yourself where it's like, do I really care about project two and three that much or funnel it into project one? I get it. I get I get my point of contention. My point of contention is that if I love Peyton and I wanna just collect Peyton cards, but I understand, like, I'm trying to make some money by selling other players. Like, I have no, like, I have no passion for Drew Brees.

So it's like, it would be... For me as a collector, it would be hard to start buying Drew Brees cards and have them sitting around knowing that. Right. They're just here for me to sell at some point when... Like, that that for me, that's...

Which that would be the challenge of that. Yes. Because then you're like, yeah. Why am I spending any money on... Yeah.

And it it can't be... And I guess as I'm thinking about it in my personal experience, like, those are, like, the passion is for the set, which then makes it easier to sell off the players. So maybe that's an answer here is, like, instead of only collecting players, like, having another Yeah. Set. I'm all about that.

I'm all about that. Like, even, like, in Drake's, like, situation, I can see where he is probably so... Like, I know he collects Manning and Breeze. Like, I don't... Buy some Brady cards.

Like, is there any Brady you could match with those guy? Like, I don't know. Like, to me, it is still fun to buy a card that fits in with what I'm doing, and, like, I like then having that to be able to sell. Or, like, Bijan Robinson's another one for me where, like, I love Bijan. I had some good Bijan cards.

I sold those recently too as part of Priest Holmes and other purchases where, like, I I... It was just... It was nice for me to have a player collection that I was into, but I was also very easy for me to sell because I wasn't... It wasn't as passionate as other ones. And I like that I was able to free up funds through that without having to sell off stuff I really, really love.

So, yeah, this is... I like It's a brain buster. It is. And I like thinking about... I feel like contrarian cards...

Shout out contrarian cards. I feel like he's always putting together cool, like, ways to visualize this. Like, the pie charts of a collection and just kind of, like, you know, looking at it via graphs is is very fun to me. And so maybe that's part of this is, like, laying out what you have. Like, what is your collection currently look like?

What is the pie chart like? What are the big... And then then you can find out what your big cards are. Like, alright. This is the total value of my collection.

This is where, you know, these cards stack up. Can I make moves here? Should I sell stuff? Should I keep going? I mean, every situation is unique, but, yeah, I don't think you can go wrong either way because I'm not trying to advocate for buying a card specifically because you think it's gonna go up in value.

I think it's just... I personally just like having stuff that I'm okay selling, when other stuff pops up. Good stuff. Good questions, everybody. Thank you very much.

Next up, NFL check-in. We have cards and cardio asked biggest surprises of the NFL season so far, And then if there's any other topics you wanna discuss. I would say... I mean, some things that come to my mind are the o and seven chargers, the four and four rams, and I also think, like, what's happening in Pittsburgh, I think, is a little six and two. No Tomlin.

Yeah. Those are the those are the three that kinda stand out in my mind right now. What about you? Yeah. Chargers is...

It's... I'm feel for Chargers fans. That's gotta be one of the bigger, like, I don't know what their preseason Super Bowl odds, but I feel like the chargers were regarded as a top contender or at least in the AFC. Like, kind of like a team. Low...

The tier below, like, the the main contender. Yeah. Teeth. So, like, I don't know. Just o and seven.

I was not expecting o and seven is Yeah. And watch... Watching that all unfold. The Bengals, I like, Joe Burrow guy. I like seeing the Bengals be good in, like Six touchdowns?

Insane. Three picks? That's a lot of, like Lot of throw. Just there. Gunslinging, though.

I like that. Bring it back. We've talked about that where back in the day, quarterbacks used to throw picks, and that was fun. It's wild that that game went into overtime. He throws six touchdowns, and you...

We're going into overtime against the titans. The NFL is so weird. Yeah. The fact that, I was just about to say, like, Dexter Lawrence making that defense. Yeah.

Like, legitimate, but then thinking that they gave up 36 to the Titans. He has made a difference there, though. That's been a good pickup by them. Yeah. No.

The the fact... The the week to week of it all. And that's what... Yeah. That's why I love the bear...

Bears even more. I actually have Adetame Adebare, which last year of his rookie deal, Colts defensive tackle, Every year, this guy's gotten better. And this year, he's been, like, for as bad as we've been, he's been, like, the bright spot. He's just, like, throwing guys around and just, like, making plays. And it's, like, every game, it's like, oh, there's Tommy.

Thank God. And then it's, like, depression. It's like, okay. Well, this guy's gonna go hit the market, and he's not gonna be a part of the rebuild. It's like it's like Carly was like...

With Ted Dodds, it was like, I'm watching this guy every game. We need to make him a part of this next era of the Colts, and they they extended him, and I was like, thank god. Like, literal glimmers of hope. It's like this guy that I'm actually enjoying watching who's, like, rising. It's like, we're gonna lose him, but then they they decided to...

I was stunned when I saw the dude. I was, like, pulling onto my street, and I, like, got the update. I was like, fuck. They're giving me something. Thank you.

It's nice to keep some pieces Yes. Of it all. I remember when the Cubs did the rebuild, won the world series. That was awesome. And then a few years later, they were rebuilding again.

And when they got rid of, like, Javier Baez, Chris Bryant, and Rizzo. And I was like, damn. You couldn't keep Rizzo. Like, keep one of them, like, as a... I mean, I guess it kinda worked out for them now if...

I mean, they had a good season the past couple years, but there was something sad about losing every single, like, remnant of that past era. Like, especially at... But at that point, those guys were older. Like, who you're talking about on the Colts, that's like a younger rookie deal. That's worth...

Yeah. JSN has 905 receiving yards in eight games. Dude, he got a he got a... I did not agree with the pass interference call. Oh, no.

That was That was a terrible call. I was like, this is bad. This is He did extend that up. I... Yeah.

I mean, that's what we're calling. It's like, come on. It was... That was a ticky tacky call. I...

Yeah. But he's just so good. That I didn't think he'd be this good. He is incredible. I just...

And I don't understand. Like, the the touchdown he had against the bears, I'm like, why are we leaving him one on one with Tyre? Like, that was just the easiest double move. Just cooked him. It just looks so smooth.

He looks so smooth. He gets everyone turned around. This is the thing about these guys, dude. It's no matter how hard every game you double team or do whatever and you scheme against them, they're so good that they are going to find an opportunity to make plays. And it's just like, you just gotta, like, minimize that.

And, yeah, that's what I find every week. It's like the game plan is probably all week. It's like, we gotta contain this guy, but, like, they're so good they're gonna find a way to make a player too. You know? Yeah.

Jamir Gibbs might just break every scrimmage record. He's got 773 rushing yards, eight touchdowns, 285 receiving yards, two touchdowns in nine games... Or no. Seven games. Seven games.

They already had their buy. So in seven games, he's got over a thousand scrimmage yards, 10 touchdowns. I mean, the scrimmage yard record, Chris Johnson, twenty five zero nine, I think, is in jeopardy. So I I love watching that. I love watching records...

Record watch. If anyone's gonna come close to the scrimmage record or touchdown record, I'm always interested in that. I don't think touchdown record, he's already, like, not on a good pace because LT 31, Just that I will take every moment to always talk about how awesome that was when Lydani and Thomas could score 31 touchdowns. Mhmm. 16 games.

Any three for three. Yeah. Just awesome season. Got... Gotta give...

Not... I gotta give some credit to the Jaguars. I know they had some injuries. They beat the brakes off of us in Duval. What's new?

Jags fans. Congratulations. But they're they're very well coached. Liam Cohen, they're a sick team. They're they're a contender in the AFC.

People might not talk about them enough, but they're very well rounded. That team is very well coached, so they're very good. And then the other thing I wanna end with, which you're probably not gonna like, but gotta give some credit to Jordan Love, man. Yeah. I I think, dude, I was watching that game against the Panthers, and I was complaining about our current situation.

He just made some throws, and my wife goes, that was a pretty good pass. And I was like, yeah. You wanna know what? Like... And she's like, what?

I was like, Chris Ballard decided not to draft him when Andrew Luck walked away. And she was like, what? Who'd we get instead? And then I got into the... Well, we actually got DeForest Buckner because we traded, and then now DeForest is gone.

But it would have been better for us if we just had Jordan Love the whole time. But, you know, I've always been, like, I've never been, like, blown away with his entire package, but, like, I don't know, man. Like, when he's good, he's he's really good. Yeah. When he's on, he's...

Can be very deadly. He has still, I feel, like, one or two plays a game where it's like, what are you what are you doing? Like, and there's something about... And maybe it's... I'm spoiled watching Caleb Williams and, like, the velocity of how fast he throws the football.

Like, Caleb's arm is just insane, but, like, Jordan loves deep ball. It's just like a punt. It's just... And it... It's unstoppable, though.

Like, every time I'm like, someone to pick that. Please, god. Someone intercept that. And it's just, like, perfect. It, like, falls straight down.

It's like the ball's always falling straight down into the receiver's hands for some insane 50 yard catch. And it's so frustrating, but it is fun to watch. And then, yeah, he's just another... It takes time for all these quarterbacks that, you know, we've talked about. And, like, Jordan Love, he came out the gates being a a very good quarterback, but he just Yeah.

He's sad. He got some time under Rogers. You know? But he just, like, makes good decisions for the most part and is just like... I don't know.

He... When he's on, he's out there hitting good passes. And the Matthew Golden Christian Watson duo is scary. Those are two very good receivers. The the...

I watch enough wrestling, which I watch a lot of wrestling. And to... When when I was watching the game and, obviously, there's been all the memes, but when the ambulance pulled up and Oh, shit. Watching him, I was like, literally, like, as it was happening and he was walking out, I was like... And in real time, I was like, oh my god.

There is going to be so many wrestling memes from this because this is exactly what happens in wrestling. Exactly. And him, like, something about him being in full uniform, walking out of the ambulance was hilarious. Like, I don't... Yeah.

I know. It doesn't make sense that you would have changed or anything, but it just was like the optics of it were hilarious. And, yeah, I saw an overlay of... They put, like, JR comic book on top of of that. And then, like, yeah, the camera, like, shaky running with him Perfect.

Out the tunnel. It was And then the crowd erupted? Yeah. It... Like, that truly is, this is entertainment.

The... This is... It reminds me too of, XFL, RIP Max. Well, Vince McMahon's beautiful brainchild, but Mhmm. Where they had, like...

I mean, honestly, stuff that would all be canceled now. But he had... We're we're getting cameras in the cheerleader's locker room. Yeah. It's like a mandate at halftime, like, reports and stuff like that.

But, like, having the backstage theatrics, I guess, is what I'm getting at, is what the XFL had, like, paired with this game on the field. And that Christian Watson moment was a glimpse into that. I bet Goodell's up there watching that and, like, oh, yeah. We need to have more of this back access. Was anything better than how they decided who got the ball at the beginning of the game?

Do you remember? I missed that. Oh, XFL? Yeah. The Sprint?

Yeah. Where they Put the ball in the middle of the field Yeah. And have both teams run for it. They... I think they only did that a couple games and then they stopped.

10 concussions? Yeah. Someone got hurt, the first or second time. When I was living in New York, there was a XFL pop up museum, and and I went to that. I've got a picture with the million dollar trophy.

It was a highlight. Yeah. The the million dollar game, that was also... It's just hilarious. There's so many good things about the XFL.

Was it... I think it was COVID, right, that ended its comeback? Like, there was a moment They tried... The Rock was involved financially. Bringing it back, but then I I feel like COVID hit, and it kinda killed momentum for the XFL.

I don't think another football league will ever work unless unless, this is a very indie insider. The the Fishers Freight or some team, they just signed Nate Davis. Why didn't he... I didn't see that last year. Or back who, like...

I'm like, how how old is this guy? He was playing when I was in college in 2008. I'm just... I gotta look up his age, but there was like a... My buddy sent me this graphic.

You know, it was like a AI graphic of, like, Fisher's Freight sign, Nate, Nate. Like, the indoor... Whatever the indoor Fisher's league is. Yeah. He's 40 years old.

Wow. So I'm like, do we have to go to one of these games and watch? You should definitely go get some... Get an auto. I know.

I've I've got some Trivia. XFL trivia. Who is the one... Well, there was a couple, but who was the one breakthrough star? Like That made it to the NFL and actually Well, Tommy Maddox.

Well, there's Tommy Maddox. It's But then, why am I thinking... He hate me. I can't think of his first name. Rod Smart.

Rod Smart. Yes. He was like a sick returner in NFL for Panthers, was it? Yeah. I gotta look at Tommy Maddox stats.

Tommy Maddox had a... We had a moment in the sun. Like, after Cordell pre Roethlisberger. Yep. Yeah.

He had... In 2002, went seven three and one in his 11 starts for the Steelers, throwing for 20 touchdowns and 16 picks. Shout out to the slingers. And then in 2000... So I guess that was his...

Him going seven three and one in o two. Because then in o three, he started 16 games and went six and ten. And then o four, he started three games, but that's... I mean, he got benched for Roethlisberger. That would have been o four where didn't Roethlisberger start, like, 15 and o or something Yeah.

Or something crazy that Yeah. They just never lost. Yeah. Good. XFL, bring bring elements of it to the NFL.

Alright. Market watch sales. Yeah. Well, it's different sales. Latter.

Ciao, Carlotta. We got the '24 Prism Jamar Chase Nebula Choice one of one selling for $17,000 sick card. I I want, like, these were hot and heavy when they came out at Nebula, like, the first year. I'm I'm interested to know your perspective. Obviously, like, this card is awesome, but, like, do you think the Nebula will will will be a hitter long term?

I know it's a one of one prism, so people are gonna like it. But what are your expectations for these cards long term? I think they're sick. I would like one of these cards. There...

I'm having to look through my watch list right now because there was a Deandre Swift at auction that sold for 2,900. So $3 for Deandre Swift. Was it 25 or 24? 24. Okay.

So a direct kinda... So 17 for... I mean, I guess that kinda... Yes. That's just a lot of money for this, but I think they look awesome.

I've never owned a nebula. They're nice. I would like I would like one one day. But, yeah, this card's sick. Jamar Chase is awesome.

I can't believe that DeAndre Swift sold for $3. That's Alright. We've got a 99 tops gold label, Steve Young, class three red label, one of one, PSA eight, selling for $4,320. Feels like a... Like, we're getting a lot of these gold label one of ones.

I've shared my perspective on not a huge fan of the double image, but, you know, Steve Young, one of the best to do it, definitely in this era in a one of one. It seems like a pretty reasonable buy. Yeah. I love this. I love the double image here, especially, like, different colored jerseys, different type of photo that...

There's some that, like, it feels like the same picture twice that to me doesn't make sense. But this one, I can get behind. And, yeah, like, I'd rather have I'd rather have this and... Or I guess I'd rather have this than the Deandre Swift for $3, and I'm a Bears fan. It's like, give me...

You know, I'm the MVP Super Bowl champion, a one on one. Granted, I know there's a bunch of the one on ones from this year, but still awesome card. So gotta shout out inventory changer on Instagram. This guy for, like, three or four years has just been buying and talking about Tanner McKee cards. And then all of a sudden, this guy...

Or McKee is the starter based on the bad situation with Jalen Hertz. But this I... This card sold this week on eBay for $12,000, which is his 23 prism black finite one of one and a PSA 10. Jesus. I mean, if you're a Tamaki guy, go for it.

Who who am I to judge? But, yeah, that's a big price tag for a quarterback who didn't look great, the other day. But No. Never know. It was bought before the game, I'm pretty sure.

Okay. Okay. But I also love the fact that, like, it's it's sold by inventory. Like, it is sold by the... You...

If everyone's consigning their cards these days, it's just fun to, like, draw that connection from Instagram to Yeah. Hard ladder. That's awesome. Alright. We've got a 97 metal universe, Jeff Graham.

Wow. PMG green, Jets green, green on green, PSA eight is a pop one. But, dude, when I saw the price, this thing sold for $4,850, and I was like, Jeff Graham? But it has a dragon in it. There's a dragon on this card.

And I feel like it's this story of, like, it's a pop one and a PSAA that's like, these people want these, like, especially set builders. And so there was a slew of these common guys, that went at auction, and here was one of them. And I was just like, wow. This is insane. Yeah.

This shows the power of a set, a parallel, a high grade. I mean, this is probably... It says pop one. I am assuming there's no... None higher.

No nines or tens. We're look... We're looking. We're looking total pop. Yeah.

One. Yeah. Yep. That's it. Okay.

So would you rather have this Jeff Graham or the Steve Young in $500? Steve Young in $500. Easy. Yeah. But this has a dragon on it.

My daughter loves dragons. So maybe I'd buy it and give it to her. But then it'd be like, why do we have a Jets card in our collection here? Yeah. But Jets with the green, I mean, this aesthetically...

And this is scary. Do it justice. Like, greens are so awesome. So I I understand if you're a set collector or a Jets collector, why you're going for this card, but I'd take the Steve Young as well and $500. Alright.

Last card. We've got a o eight finest moments, Eli Manning, auto super fracture one of one, PSA nine, auto, grade 10, $5,640 for these cards. These cards are just... People are loving the... Even the inserts, the super fractures from these old finer...

Finest sets. Yeah. Not not for me necessarily. Like, the... I don't...

I've never really loved the inserts from finest and a sticker auto, but Manning... What what can I say? The guy won a Super Bowl. If I'm a collector of... If I want a sick Manning card, this is a sick Manning card.

So... And cool cool pick... Him handing it off kinda cool, I guess. But I don't know. Not my not my favorite.

Not my cup of tea. Eli's got some strong collectors. He's got a good collector base. Yeah. I mean, he won two Super Bowls.

I'm not not He did. That. It's the... Aesthetics of that card are my favorite. But I'm with you.

I'm with you. Not my favorite card either. Who will buy? Just a guy. Alright.

Collecting updates. What are the current collecting projects that you're focusing your resources on? Any any pickups? No buys. Mostly sells right now.

Mostly sells. Let's see. I purchased... I got a couple... I have a two Luther Burton cards that I got Okay.

Last couple weeks. One, I don't have in the mail yet, so who knows if that ever shows up. But, yeah, nothing crazy. Same thing. Selling some stuff and waiting for that priest homes to get back from PSA, which should be happening in the coming weeks.

Alright. Card call out. What should we do? Let's do This is seven Let's honor let's honor the Dez Bryant. Mhmm.
