of fanatics fest back in the hq and then eyes looking forward at the national i thought i would be like very drained this week but it's the opposite is true i have a ton of energy and i am just very very excited about what's to come i think this in person like talking with people from the internet that you interact with seeing cards obviously fanatics fest is an exceptional example with star athletes everywhere like i just stumbled into being shoulder to shoulder with cody rhodes organically that was insane but like i left feeling just a ton of energy not only about the shows to come but just about my own collecting and collection and everything else so it's awesome we're we're here we're ready i've got just so much on my mind i'm glad we're recording a podcast about football cards and football cards because there's a lot shaking but yeah man i'm i'm doing well yeah so fanatics fest the the celebrity of it all i like in my mind from afar just looking through the phone to me i i kept picturing like a royal rumble where it was like there'd be a countdown a bell would ring and then all of a sudden it's like alright ryan reynolds and it's like ryan reynolds does a lap around and does deals and shakes hands kiss babies and then the countdown goes again and then alright cody rhodes or jason sudeikis like it just seems like celebrity arrives does does the lap crowd goes nuts and then they move on so yeah we'll kind of paint the picture of fanatics fest like what's what's it like walking in just just a quick rundown i don't know if you cover it on another pod so i don't wanna get repetitive but just kinda yeah yeah i haven't i don't really get into detail but i'll say i'll remark one remark and i'll continue to hit this drum there are and i'll say this about the national and i probably said this in other places but i'm gonna continue to say it because i believe in it do not take your advice do not take your information from individuals remarking on fanatics fest or remark or will remark on the national who are not there like yes that like there i i get back to the hotel room and i would see just a slew of story posts from people saying fanatics fest is ruining the hobby what a terrible event all the stuff and they weren't there it's so lame like that's this goes back to like me saying i'd get rid of all the hobby complainers like so many hobby complainers after events like have the conversation make the trip experience it yourself and if you have that opinion that's fine but like the lamest thing in twenty twenty six are individuals talking shit about event events online who aren't there it's so lame so i just have to say that but the fanatics fest first of all the cards are everywhere so that's super cool there were so many awesome dealers so many amazing cards just everywhere it's they're just a central part which this is my first year i have not been to the previous years but from what i understand the integration of cards in sports and culture has gotten even tighter as the years pass in terms of the athletes and i wish it was royal rumble style it would probably be less chaos but what you have is you have these stages going on and you have these activations going on and at all times like dude first of all i found myself in this moment where there was like a a stage that was happening like maybe brady was on stage and people were going over to see brady but at the same time in the fifa activation ishow speed and cooper flagg were there and they were like they were leaving the activation as i was like walking to the stage and so like that's chaos because like their security the security by the way i no one's gonna talk about the security the security at fanatics fest is like literally the best security i've ever seen from a protecting talent to making sure no one's not stealing anything like they legitimately had new york state troopers like walking up and down like it's really good so but yeah it's chaos like it is built and designed if you are like an event head or appreciate have been to trade shows have appreciate how things are done like the volume and scale and the amount of people it took to organize something like that is i've never been to anything like it it was super impressive so yeah man you you see you see stars everywhere you see cards everywhere it is it is stimulation overload like nonstop like you kind of get you get to this point where it's like you see someone ultra famous like after seeing like i show speed in cooper flag and like tom brady and cody rhodes i was just like walking to go get a coffee and dwight howard is just like rolling through and i'm like oh there's dwight howard but like if you saw dwight howard like anywhere else you'd be like holy shit it's dwight howard so yeah man i think it's not the national it's nothing like the national it's not trying to be the national but like cards are involved in like the goal there is it's a top of the funnel event for fanatics they're trying to convert fans into collectors and that is an entry point to do it so i'm glad i went i'm glad that i experienced it my flight got canceled on saturday i felt bad for my wife because she had been home with the three kids there was weather patterns laguardia was a mess a bunch of flights got canceled and so i had to book a hotel room which literally the eve before the world cup it was already expensive that was very expensive and so i decided to just spend even more because saturday night's main event was happening at madison square garden so wwe event first wrestling show at the garden it was incredible bronson was there with the celebration with roman reigns tyrese halliburton interrupted it i was the only person in msg cheering for tyrese halliburton it was it was it was one of my favorite weeks of the year so shout out fanatics fest it was quite the trip and you know this week i was like alright now i can get caught up and then i was like no i can't because the national is this next week so yeah hell of a trip man that sounds awesome yeah i mean and yeah my commentary was not meant to be like a knock on the pageantry or celebrity ness of it all because like i wasn't referring to you i was but i just i don't think that's a bad thing and even if the national even gets more bells and whistles like that like or fanatics fest adds more i don't think that's a bad thing like it would not be fun if the national and fanatics fest were the exact same thing and only focused was the cards like do do you and i probably prefer a card focus a card focus show yes but like this is probably also maybe a good thing for the national as the years go on like i don't see it ever getting to the point where like fanatics fest becomes the show and no one's going to the national i think if anything fanatics fest will start to take all of the stuff that the pure purest hobby collector people like don't want at the national anyways where it's like maybe there is less brand activations at the national and it's just just cards just all card that would be awesome i'd be pumped if fanatics had all of that stuff and then national was just card table after card table then it'll never get to that either the nationals probably gonna just keep trying to you know counter fanatics fest with their own celebrity appearances and all that because i you know the nash i don't know if you know this but the national jay cutler will be signing at the national oh will it headliner leave that twenty twelve fine night at home please should i get it signed with a nice neon orange paint pen the the football card podcast would be canceled wow okay ishow speed and tom brady how about jay cutler sitting at a table smoking cigs signing signing autos that that real that that really like shows you the difference of between the two events like tom brady and ishowspeed versus jay jay cutler at the national no it look it looks awesome like overall net positive for the hobby yeah one one hundred percent and the it's just that if it's the anti rubin anti fanatics anti adaptable anti change like contingent that just wants to shit on everything and that's fine like that's your position you're allowed to do that and that's that's okay but like this hobby this business side with the industry it's just gonna keep moving it's just gonna keep evolving and so you can either adapt or you can continue to be bitter and sit there on the sidelines and waste your whole time bitching and complaining it's your decision so i i heard enough and saw enough in the last two years online that i said like i i need to go check this out so i can have a an opinion and my opinion is that it is a spectacle and it is really really great for this space and the final note for me is it is summer dude there were there were way there was way more kids at fanatics fest than i think the national like dude the amount of jalen brunson jerseys on kids and jackson dart jerseys on kids like there are kids everywhere but it's like kinda built for kids like it really is like and i can't imagine if we were kids like if we i kept thinking of like if if i was a kid and i was at this event like this would be the only thing i cared about every summer and i would do whatever it took for my parents to take me to the event because everything a kid could want who's into sports and cards and celebrities is is all right there in one weekend yeah that's a great call out i also saw you had a note about in person deals that i thought was interesting that i think is what oh yeah discussing here so so this was inspired i got the chance to by the way the the which went viral the the the organ we'll say worked to use wrestling terms the worked tom brady logan paul slap interaction i was there right in front of the stage for that and i was standing with my good friends chris hoesch christina's pc and stiff arm wax from the card ladder team we were watching this and it was it was great and chris and i were talking about these events and just why we come and what we're trying to get out of it and we had a great dinner afterwards it was awesome chris i said hey man there's been a ton of like conversations in my dms about private sales and what gets reported and what doesn't get reported and like i was asking like what his position was and we're going back and forth and and he was talking about just like how vetted like they really are and which i think is really good and we all know this but it was good to like kinda it's it is a process for a card ladder to put in private sales and which i think is good that there's a process design so there's not a bunch of you know crap that gets put on there but we are entering we've fanatics fest is on the other side we're on the other side of fanatics fest we are entering the national these events there's they're all in person deals like so many big cards are gonna be changing hands and so i think the question i have is like do we want to live in a world where private deals your private deal you go and report it like after you do it or do you wanna live in a world where because it's a private deal you're going to keep it private and not put not make it public final note on this is like i've gotten so deep in the rabbit hole with this topic with a bunch of people that it's gotten to the point where i'm getting feedback that there's levels to when someone would put a deal a deal on card ladder that's a private deal and when someone wouldn't so i think this is like a fun complex complicated topic that doesn't get too much airtime so i wanted to bring it up to the surface and try to get your position like how do you think about this yeah that that's i like this topic because i'm very interested in it because i always like when i see a private sale on card ladder because it's information right like you go to card ladder to find information to make a purchase or to value something and when there's more information that's better for everybody i myself have never reported a sale but i think that's just out of sheer laziness like i hate most kinds of administrative work and i i love card ladder shout out card ladder but like i don't know i just have never wanted to be like alright now i have to download receipts and like submit documentation like and who knows like there's probably sales i haven't reported that would benefit me because then there'd be now like a comp for this type of card out there that's higher and that could value other things and then there's so i don't know i think it's just a complex topic i do think there's a beauty in the like the unknown of it all and not every sale being tracked can be nice like we need some room for for error for the human element i think if every single sale ever even like in person was tracked like i don't it becomes like if baseball went to an automated robot doing strikes and balls like no give me the amp give me the human error in there give me the give me the variance so i don't know i think it's like i'm not for or against it i i'm for it because it's good inform it's information it helps everyone like overall it's a good thing and probably should be doing it yeah it's just my own disdain towards like i don't like any like expensing something at work when i have to like upload a receipt like i don't do it i eat cost all the time because i just don't want to do it i hate time i hate that process so yeah no i i i a lot of what you say resonates with me and i think why this topic has popped up in my head and why i'm exploring it is the the card that i've been referencing that i bought privately which i will say this because i do get questions and i'm not sharing it because i'm still doing work to make sure that by the way here's a sidebar here mike a a a batch of my cards that i'm using to fund this card that i the mystery card here they're up for auction now and this is this is a sidebar the when you buy a card that is a a massive card biggest card i've ever bought and purchased easily non football card whenever you do this like you have to sacrifice and so i'm sacrificing it in the first round of cards that i'm consolidating to get this card and man it is tough to get those dms did you see this did you see this and it's like damn it like how yes i did see this and i appreciate you sharing it and actually they're my cards and actually it sucks that i have to get rid of them but don't remind me don't remind me that's like the that's like the worst part of it all and people are just trying to be nice but i'll also say this it's like when when like we're engaging with i don't i have learned because this is such a complicated space that like if i see a card that i think might be someone's or someone might be interested in because that hurts so much for me i've almost like defaulted to being like expect my position has changed to expect that people have are they've already seen it like yeah unless it's an exceptional situation because it is it is painful and i'll also say this and this is just me like i i i i don't like when i'm like engaging with people i don't necessarily wanna dig into like the like the why behind what i'm doing like i will say this if i wanna talk about it i will definitely share it on the podcast but like it's just challenging for me especially when i'm getting rid of cards that i really love so that's the sidebar of all of this but the private sale i've been going through this because the the card that i bought is a i would say it is a category shaping type of a card moment and and the question is like do i do i report it just so other people in the space understand where the market currently is or do i not report it so i can continue to buy other cards in that space that aren't impacted by my own sale price and so like that's the the lemon the dynamic and i've gotten feedback from people that are just saying like yeah don't report it because you can keep still buying cards that you want it won't impact the price and then there's also like other people that say like you i i do report it because i want people to know so it's weird like i've never never had to deal with this but that's why the private of it all keeps coming up yeah on the sending people listings because i've turned i've defaulted the same thing like i trust that the person also has saved searches and that they're finding it too i will send something if i get to it and there's like one watcher or no watchers yes yeah recording a call like early early then i'll send it that's when i'll get you a text or like i'll hit you with the dm because it's like time is a factor here but if i if i see it in safe searches and it's got it's been up for a day or it's got twenty watchers it's like okay if they they've seen it that's right yes yeah so but yeah man i'm i feel like i'm going through a lot especially with collection consolidation i'm also because when you do reach a level where you're grabbing a car that you truly love that takes a lot of sacrifice it just changes things like i've got a lot of cards right now it's like i can say this like i have gotten to this point where but just bought like i don't have the time to like be glued to my phone to look for every card that fits inside this set that i wanna build it just i'm out of time i'm at capacity and so like that that like building process of like the broader like collection that i was building like i just lost its luster so like usually when those moments happen i just make quick decisions because the change of direction or the refocus on something else is exciting to me it like really really excites me i'm a startup guy by nature and that influences the way i think about my collection so yeah i'm i'm i'm processing right now and i'm going through a trans i think i'm going through a transformational moment i think it's good because i have a lot of energy towards it i'm pumped i can't wait to see the card hear about the card i'm feeling yeah like i'm due it's been a year since that the cutler finite and i feel like my like the zion box is very full and when it gets that full i've note like yeah it's like a volcano it's like i need to release some pressure here like i need some room like i don't have room to put new things in but i keep buying new things so there's a sign here that i don't know maybe hopefully at the national something pops up that can make a move or i just need to buy a bigger zion i don't know one or the other it is a good time to sell to to sell cards so you so we all have that on our side yeah there's but it keeps me in a good time to sell it's a good time to sell we're in a good time everybody keep it going yeah alright and then i guess real quick national by the time this airs this is friday so that'll be next week is the national what's your i mean i kinda guess i know because you've you're talking about this big move but i was just wondering your vibe going into it like are you looking to buy are you looking to sell are you just looking to get stuff graded are you looking to just talk to people just what's where's your head at going into the national so my primary focus is on the stacking slabs work mhmm it will be doing content it will be running wrestling card takeover on friday it'll be making connections it'll be dinners that sort of thing i know that kinda sounds lame to the individual that's going there all for the cards but last year i hardly got any time with cards because i was doing content the whole time i would imagine this year will be likely the same regarding cards it'll be opportunistic i have gotten my feelers out to a few individuals but i just won't have the time to go walk around to every showcase so i am trying to there are cards that people have that will be there that i've been putting some fillers out so if i come home with anything it'll likely be from a prearranged deal yeah what about you yeah i'm gonna be working we got a lot of cool things planned gonna be doing a lot of content capture but i'm excited to see people that's my favorite part of it all like i mean i love seeing the cards obviously too but i think there is something about like being in a room irl with other people who are just card sickos because that doesn't happen any other time during the year like any other time it's like maybe hoping like my friends wanna ask about cards or try and like wiggle it into a conversation and it's like yeah it's not happening or like my wife pretending to care when i'm like check this like she doesn't care humor me for five minutes so i can tell you about this thing but like when you actually are at the national and it's other people who have the same disease and are as enthusiastic and excited about all these stupid little things that make cards matter to us it's fun it's unlike anywhere else and so even like fanatics fest it's like i'm sure it's everyone in this room has some shared interest here and that brings energy that you don't get anywhere else in your normal day to day life so yeah i'm just excited to again be in that room like the energy around this hobby feels i mean i remember last year's national felt like oh holy shit like this has arrived to a new high like momentum seemed super strong last year and in the year since it's only intensified so it's gonna be fun yeah i'll be there all week come find me i would love to see any football card pod listeners in real life say what's up we gotta do something for the football card pod something i'm already i already know i'm bringing some cards to rip or i'm ripping cards at the national good for you i might i'm gonna i last year i stopped at like dave and adam's or steel city and i remember i bought some i just bought like i think i bought like four hobby boxes of aew allure and just took them back to my hotel room i i was working nights at the nationals my my i my national experience is gonna from a work perspective is gonna be very very it's gonna be a lot but at least i don't have like the the late night stuff so i'm thankful for that but i've thought about the wax and i'm like after i get done with a day of like grinding it is fun to just you can just literally walk over to these big mega stores and get whatever you want so i will be doing that for sure we'll get some sort of football product rip it for the list you got some select you got some twenty thirteen select i'm gonna rip twenty fifteen prism you have a hobby box i have a couple hobby boxes of twenty fifteen prism that i got a while ago that have just been taunting me and i'm like alright they're getting busted open at the national that's how you know i don't know if i've ever seen the manning or brady poll stars i don't think i've ever seen the color i think they're all in these boxes that i have all three of them could you wear fifty seven ricky jackson and dwight stevenson but i have to shout out dwight stevenson i didn't know about dwight stevenson we're fifty seven for the dolphins played for the dolphins from nineteen eighty to nineteen eighty eight and before that played at university of alabama under coach bear bryant where bear bryant said that like he was one of the best centers he's ever coached he was a man among children alabama won back to back national championships with him he then goes to the dolphins they went to two super bowls that they lost but he was still starting center four time first team all pro from eighty four to eighty seven just a dominant center that i thought you know i don't know if we've shouted out many centers so far on the football card pod so shout out the big uglies down front they they deserve some love too what fifty sevens came to your mind brett mine was tom jackson so i think most people remember tom jackson from his espn days but i think i remember vividly as a kid watching tom jackson and chris berman it was they were just such an institution yep on espn back in the days where espn was awesome and i remember my like dad saying oh yeah tom jackson played you know he was on the denver broncos and it was like it blew my mind because i i didn't like i hadn't i wasn't old enough to realize like these football players could then just go be analysts or go do commentary and so i remember like getting on aol back in the day like startup style and like looking up to like because i didn't i thought my dad was kidding so i like looked him up and he was like oh man and so when it was fifty seven i had remembered that tom jackson was fifty seven so he was my pick so he played for the broncos from nineteen seventy three to nineteen eighty six all with the broncos he was a one of the founding members of denver's orange crush defense so back to the nicknames of the defense orange crush is all time the defensive units have the best fucking nickname they do first team all pro won second team twice denver broncos ring of fame he joined espn studios in nineteen eighty seven where he teamed up with chris berman just iconic coming i i treat that as like iconic coming of age football content that i consumed as a kid mhmm and he had a hell of a run there he he worked at espn forever but then of course highest selling card which happened recently this was a june twenty eighth of this year sale in his nineteen seventy eight tops psa ten all pro rookie sold for one thousand nine hundred and seventy five dollars it's a pop fourteen but yeah tom jackson legend cool cool card man this card is like these cards like from the seventies you look at them and and with the psa ten and just this copy looks so clean the scan is awesome shout out four sharp corners just just an amazing card amazing player yeah freshly graded too that that is something that the football card pod has opened my eyes to more and more it's just a nice gem at ten of a high pop vintage card i want like i've started some safe searches like mike singletary and just like those guys where it's like i don't care that there's yep a hundred thousand copies of this i want that perfect pristine copy like this that is awesome i will i wanna say this if you are a collector of these types of cards you know from the you know it can go all the way back i'll it probably maybe starting at like sixty seventies even eighties and you collect like legends and psa ten copies and you post them on your instagram let us know like i wanna follow you i wanna see more of these because i'm with you man every time i see these cards i'm like god like this like freshly graded you mentioned like this thing was sitting raw this looks so awesome like it looks just it's the color is amazing mhmm obviously i love it how the four sharp corners who've they've been on sagging sides before but there are four sharp corners to this card but yeah please let us know you exist i wanna follow you pop fourteen too that's awesome couple other fifty sevens that i have to shout out bart scott can't wait is that is that one of the most where would you rank that in terms of like iconic postgame moments in nfl history oh and that was like in my own personal nostalgia bias like peaked twitter too like that was like a meme like it be like that spread beyond just like football fans like that was a moment just can't wait like that transcended outside of just sports it still lives dude it still lives you say that anywhere and everyone knows bart scott everyone yeah i have to shout out olin kreutz former bears pro bowl center on the super bowl team olin kreutz was an absolute stud for a long time in chicago and then his fifty seven got passed on jonathan bostick linebacker from florida that the bears drafted in the second round i think it was the second round in like twenty twelve or twenty thirteen but in a preseason game he had one of the biggest hits i've ever seen it was awesome and i was just convinced like he was the next one it was like we had urlacher we had briggs we had fifty four fifty five and now we have fifty seven bostick continuing the tradition was so pumped for john bostick and then he just you know never materialized into that type of player but that one hit in the preseason was so sick so dude that that i think the reason why everyone loves the early prism stuff is because it is so fun to talk about those guys from that era because we're we're removed just far enough where you can just get like i haven't heard that name in forever but i immediately brought a smile to my face because i was like oh yeah that guy and it just makes me wanna just go run and look at some rosters yeah and it made me because this popped up earlier his he was a rookie in twenty thirteen because his twenty thirteen select gold auto is popped up on ebay fifty bucks obo and i was just hovering over it but the auto the sticker auto it's just it's not not for me but shout out john bostick yeah shout out that era twenty twelve bears drafted shane mcclellan he's one of the rookies in twenty twelve prism that i feel like there used to be a couple copies just sitting on ebay but i couldn't get myself to pay up for them for a player who the only good thing he ever did was break aaron rodgers' collarbone which actually was pretty sick so shout out shane mcclellan you know i got nothing but love for twenty twelve with luck t y you got dwayne allen kobe fleener like it was a fun draft for a for us colts fans the colts are always just drafting good players they they do a good job i just wish they could win some win the division for once so we'll see alright episode fifty seven let's get into some questions we got some good ones here first up from loyal listener t k d tickets i like this one this is fun how often do you look at your cards not scans or instagram posts but your actual cards i think the hobby tends to emphasize the chase and the buy over the actual owning i've personally found that actually seeing real cards long after i buy them makes the hobby real for me things like the number grades seem much less important when i'm actually holding a card overlooking at a scan i was wondering if you enjoy the hobby in the same way i will i will first say that this is one of the maybe the first week that i i have not previewed the questions in advance so these are gonna be this i might do i might do this for this is fun because i'm i like this maybe better great question this is a talk track of stacking slabs i've talked about the utility value of looking at your cards a lot i will say this i have been in a stretch because my life has been insane with three kids and work and coming and going and limited time where i have probably been in the i've looked at my cards the least amount over the last like three or four months and it sucks and like i'll go to bed and i'll look at my cases and i'll just be like damn it i need to find time and i i realized that it definitely impacts my experience the more time i spend like fifteen minutes thumbing through cards pulling them out reminding me what i bought just looking at them it's definitely makes it way better for me the problem is just time but i will say in this stretch which i don't wanna make a habit of it but the forcing function of buying a big card consolidating like i've spent more time over the last like probably few weeks with my cards than ever before but it's judgment day style like just trying to figure out what stays and what goes and those moments i think are really good because you buy cards and you evolve as a collector your interest shift a little bit you have other targets and it makes you it challenges yourself and it makes you question like well should this be here and over the last like couple weeks it is i have had a lot of heart to hearts with do i do i need one hundred gold prisms of indianapolis colts players i probably need like john the jonathan taylor and andrew luck stuff and some stuff here and there but like am i ever gonna finish this am i getting joy out of finishing this and like those are the questions i have right now and i think it all like everything changes mhmm and it all starts though when you look at your cards and so for me i'm spending less time online trying to buy cards i don't have the time to do it and so like do i want the main thing my main thing to be something where i have to be glued to my phone to look at safe searches all the time because if i miss it then i get pissed off and it's like that it gets into this point where it's like this isn't fun for me anymore so this all started by me looking at my card so i say all this to say this is a great topic great great thoughts completely agree look at your cards because it can not only be great because you're getting to enjoy them but it can also like inspire new ways of thinking or collecting yes agreed aligned with all of that i really like the the line he had here where he said hobby tends to emphasize the chase and the buy over the actual owning because there is a lot of truth to that like even in my own collecting where the chase is a lot of times better than actual owning like i get the card and it's just not as excite or it like yes it completes a part but then it just goes in the box and goes away and it i was thinking more about it and i think it's because the chase like that fuels and like lights up the imagination the same way like prospecting does there's a question coming up about kind of prospecting and to me it's like when the the career is still unknown right it's like he could go on and win four super bowls and four mvps like it it's not final and when you don't have the card when you're imagining where it is or what it would be like to be in your collection like it's triggering kind of the same type of thing and then the second you get the card it's like yeah you're on to the next chase i think that's kind of a a normal thing for anyone and of course there are certain cards that like and all my like when i get out the collection i get pumped and i'm like hell yeah you did this you you put in the time and the work and the effort and all the hours and scrolling safe searches and networking to like pair all these things together and you know whatever but yeah i still think the chase though is is kinda what fuels the whole thing but yeah important to get the collection out and i'll look at it and also like when the the chase is so much your favorite but like the better question to me is like what defines the best like if you're gonna actually step up to the plate and say this is the best like how do you say how do you define that outside of you just saying it's the best so i just had to get that off my chest it just it's like whenever i hear that it just like alarms go off in my brain mhmm very good callouts and that's where because i was like best era i feel like it's just so easy to go to the late nineties where it's like because of hobby significant like numbered cards come becoming prevalent and all you know it's like like mhmm they they're not getting the best of the best so that's why it's like it's so tough you know yeah so we'll take it as favorite we'll do personal favorite but then i was again three year spans because i think three year spans gets fun because yeah like i'll give you a couple examples of like twenty twelve to twenty fourteen initially i was like that's pretty hard to beat because you're prism first year prism first year select first year flawless even though i'm not a flawless guy it's like alright pretty good span but twenty fourteen totally certified sick too totally certified those and all good years of prism but then like twenty ten to twenty twelve even like i like that you could shift it just a little bit because now you've still got topscrum superfractors in twenty ten twenty eleven and then you still get twenty twelve first year prism same thing with like ninety seven to ninety nine yeah or ninety like i don't know i think there's little gonna say ninety seven to ninety nine has to be talked about for sure there's just good windows kinda throughout without just say nineties or two thousands or two thousand tens like shrinking it down is kind of a fun exercise so i don't know i think twenty twelve to fourteen is hard to beat in my mind though as a just personal preference broadly for me and my personal taste that's probably what i would side with but i i also yeah i i think ninety seven ninety eight ninety nine is is is really tough to beat too just you got manning's rookie year there i mean there's a ton of good rookies tons of good set i second what are your favorite non one of one or non gold cards from the two thousands and two thousand tens my initial reaction to this is that it is hard it if you are spending thousands of dollars on cards regularly and you're seeing what is happening with parallels more cards being printed more options more brands more opportunities it is it is really hard not to like want to jump on the best of the best train right now and i think one of ones one of ones they regardless of this environment we're in where everything's hot and going up it's not always gonna be this way and one of ones help us mitigate risk and that financial risk of spending a lot of money on cards the card that i purchased and spent a lot of money on one of one so yeah i'm more that way now than ever before and if it's and it's also like my funds are more selective now than ever before because i've got i mean i've got a family to support and i've got a business to run and it costs money to do both so i'm constantly thinking about risk mitigation and also like for me i'm figuring out like if i don't buy a one of one it really needs to be a part of a premium set that i love and it needs to be there needs to be some qualifier like i haven't seen this card available in three to five years or this is the highest graded copy of this card that sort of thing and it's all risk for me it's risk mitigation so yeah i a lot of people are moving this way i would i would throw my hat in the ring i'm sure like back to where i was talking about do i need a hundred cold schooled prisms i i don't know like i don't i i think like could i what would would i be happier if i turn that into like three really great cards that i love like those are the types of things i'm working through right now yep and to his question of why do you think this mentality has gotten so strong over the past year or so i think that's our own personal social media echo chambers that we live in like we're just so we're seeing these one of ones they're becoming accessible like they're changing hands too like someone will post one and then it could be for sale three months later like because of all the other reasons we've hit on in this episode where it's like the chase is exciting and then you get it and then you're like oh okay this is just piece of cardboard i want something i want a new chase and like to do this new chase i need funds so i'm gonna sell the chase that i already accomplished so like i think the turnover of a lot of these cards is higher and the visibility is higher i always like thinking like if social media didn't exist how would you collect would people would still want one of ones but i don't think they would seem as attainable as they are today like they're just like something that you read about in beckett where you're like oh on the checklist there's a one of one that's crazy i'm never gonna see that card in my entire life unless i pull it or stumble upon it at the national like those the fact that we're able to just see these kinds of cards all the time makes us want them more because we know where they are so just like that knowledge of their exist not only their existence but of like where they are makes them easier to transact because you can start throwing offers at people and get conversations going so yeah as we've touched on the football card pod i think social media is the is to blame or to credit for you know however whichever way you wanna look at this as far as non one of ones or non goals from the two thousands twenty tens two thousand two x fractors finest x fractors are a favorite of mine of course and then just black refractors i just love a good classic black refractor like in a high grade too like just that that is a hunt that'll never get old especially early two thousands just when that's the chase card that topps chrome was putting out i will just throw something out and i don't know if we've ever really talked about it but i always appreciate these cards but i like the like fabric of the game from like leaf certified like the game worn patches and the those cards are usually pretty cool but yeah i usually like the finest the finest stuff those parallels that aren't one of ones usually are kinda my default good call good call alright and final question from squint sports cards if prism during their run had on card autographs of gold and black finite prisms would you two have focused your collection on those instead of the true prism versions that exist in your pcs today assume it's the same image for both autographed and nonautographed versions it would definitely get me to think this quest this question gets me to think mhmm you know i have been on record to say i'm not a huge auto guy however with like for me with wwe and topps their stuff is on card autographs and i i i get it i understand a good inscription i understand a good on card autograph with a super fracture or yeah i i i have a lot more understanding to that seeing that in that world so i don't know if i would change but i would definitely accept the opportunity for specific cards if they were available the the stick the non sticker of it all changes everything to me yeah that it's rare but i have seen some on card chromium autos that i like i'm like oh shit that card looks awesome like they can be really well done at times like select has done some on the basketball side like twenty thirteen select basketball there's like a auto insert they have that looks awesome like they're on card still a chromium shiny card but it's just like oh they figured out how to do this right so if prism did that it would make me think it would make me consider it but they didn't so here we go how how crazy is it that in twenty twelve basketball the kobe and the durant are on card autographs and they're the only two on card autographs in the entire manufacturer run i didn't know that that's sick yeah the twenty twelve kobe attention is that two years ago june fifth a pop two psa nine sold for fifteen thousand so if people are saying like only brady's cards are going up they're wrong like i manning's cards have continually increased in price and just all you have to do is look at an example like this card where the psa five in two years time is outselling the nine which is crazy like if one of those nines went up for sale right now like what would they go for i guess we have let's see recent sales the most recent sales in eight five which was in may selling for twenty two thousand two hundred but yeah yeah that what a sick card i mean peyton the high school photo the like the scene senior pictures type photo right here absolutely awesome card out of thirty five too that's just such a such a cool card very cool card we move over to a card i think we've talked about but it sold and i was like this card rules twenty twenty three prism set dion sanders black finite and psa nine it's sold for five k he is in which i don't know like i was like maybe this would go for a little more but he is in all red red helmet look he's got the wristbands double wristbands just he's in a crouching pose getting ready to blanket some receiver but yeah little little post playing day special figured it'd be fun to throw out there yeah awesome looking card just the colors black and red it's a big i think that's jj watt navy blue prism but it's the pulsars and it sold i didn't even see this card listed it sold on ebay for three thousand five hundred and five dollars one of one but yeah i've never i've not only never seen this card but i don't think i've ever seen the base for twenty fifteen jj watt so it was like when this car i saw by the way i was i've talked about this but just going through and trying to find cool cards to talk about like i see so many cards and it takes me more time than not and when this one stopped me in my tracks but yeah well i don't know like what do you think about this i mean the listing title yeah navy blue prism like this is why i've always wondered and i mean i understand it from a manufacturer standpoint but like why a parallel name isn't included on the back of a card like when you get a gold like superfractor is on top stuff now right and some back in the day you would have refractor on there or like rare or common or like what like they would have indicators that would help a lot with like especially as we're in this parallel era where there's ten different types of gold cards it would be nice if someone could turn it over and see like this is the gold wave crystal prism like it should be on there so that people aren't listing black pulsars as a navy blue prism i mean this card to me is this is an undersell like this big time big time gone thousand four hundred if if dude this is so fascinating so i was just going through so one sold in july for fifty five then the last one sold in april for forty three then one sold in april again for fifty one i mean these it's like when do you if you want one it's like when are you gonna jump in like that's that's these cards because like from sale to sale like each one can fluctuate from two thousand to three to nine like it's just wild looking at these cards and it's a pop one fourteen but it is i would say like it is one of the more more recognizable football cards there is yeah that is sick i was looking back at the history though this topped out at ninety thousand yes back in the the twenty one so yeah we're still not back up there but that's a healthy healthy set and even top one fourteen fifty k like yeah that's a that's a sick card yeah it's not hundreds it's a hundred and fourteen so yeah yeah i think that question that's the question it's like a lot of us probably want one of these and if you have the funds for one it's when are you gonna jump in because like maybe a couple times a month they pop up and you never know but yeah always like to talk about that card and we'll be able to revisit and and i say all this to say like i'd certainly there jackson darr brought plenty of moments of excitement and i think this is the perfect ingredients where he has given people enough hope that when he bounces back he is going to show out which he very well could i'm not saying he can't but oh i know too well the injury injury history especially up front is never a good thing mhmm anthony richardson like thank god i didn't decide to blow all my money and buy one of his gold prism cards but like the injuries are a big deal like you just gotta be careful and the psa slab of it all this was eighty bucks that was it oh my god this is bad news bad news for me i think there's like fourteen total graded by psa this is the lowest graded one an eight five with a a seal grade i would pay eighty bucks for it just like like long open that's what i'm saying i was like i don't i'm not i mean would i want the like nine point six a plus plus seal like because then i had to do a deep dive educating myself on like video game grading like what is an a plus plus seal versus an a seal versus a c or like i don't know there's and it's pretty intuitive it's like the higher the letter grade the better the higher the number the better how how much is the highest versus the eighty like would you into like what does that cost like the most expensive i don't know and that's the thing like the tracking like sales was difficult like there is not like a card ladder for this and just searching ebay sold like the like searching madden two thousand three sealed graded going by sold like i'm i'm not finding anything so this was pure feel i was like eighty bucks i don't want that for eighty bucks so put that on the shelf dude i was expecting like in the three
