The Football Card Podcast #55: Why 2012 Prizm Golds Won't Slow Down

hello and welcome to the football card podcast this is it you made it and it's friday and you are listening to the fastest growing podcast in the entire world that's centered on football cards and most importantly football cards i'm your host john aka pack nicholson and with me as always is mister stacking slabs himself brett how you doing i'm well i made my children's cinnamon rolls for breakfast today i'm trying to win a dad of the year award here you know it's like wife's working out a little bit here's some cinnamon rolls kids let's watch some shows before i record my podcast that i do every wednesday morning and where i talk about football cards and football cards and k they're like you talk about football cards i'm like yeah would you like another bite of cinnamon roll how much time do you have so i i wanna get to that point they don't quite understand what i do they that when i'm in this space it's daddy's at work but i i'm i'm it's they know i like cards they know i like sports but i don't know if they've connected the two so i'm i'm continuing every wednesday before this i'm gonna make cinnamon rolls and sit them down and wait for wait for questions i haven't gotten the questions quite yet but that's what i'm i'm priming the pump for that oh yeah that that's good and that's like good association with like cinnamon rolls or football card pod days maybe that's a more widespread thing than beyond just the stacking slabs household maybe we can start everyone send us your cinnamon roll picks wednesday morning start eating those and yeah that's funny explaining work this work to toddlers like not now honey daddy's busy so anyways how about joey galloway's two thousand two series i've i've there's a there's a part of me at times where on wednesdays my wife doesn't work and so the kids are home and so it's chaos in my house and i'm always just like my wife's watching three children four and a half and younger and i'm sitting here talking about football cards like there's a little guilt but i'm also just like there's a point where i'm like this is what i do for a living and then it's also like my my wife doesn't push back she's not like i'm out here watching three kids and you're talking about football cards but it's just it's an interesting dynamic and sometimes i need to take like a hundred steps back and be like look at what's happening here like this is this is wild but it's fun and i very much look forward to talking football cards every week yeah look at look at what we've built and shout out the football card pod listeners first and foremost football card pod would be nothing without the loyal listeners of the footballcard pod but yeah fifty five weeks straight we've been we've been grinding over a thousand followers on instagram we crossed that threshold the p the the people are here we have to serve the people so that's what we're here for we we must serve the people and i feel really good about these conversations each week and the feedback on the other side and really appreciate everyone out there this show very much feels like it has entered the regular life of the listener of this show and people share when and why they're listening and there's thoughtful questions and feedback so shout out to all of you the loyal listeners out there we appreciate you yeah and we're we're closing in we're a month away from preseason football which is that just gave me chills saying that out loud actually so we're two months away from season starting which is amazing so gotta remind people we gotta do this pick them league we have i can't remember his name but we will get to know him this season because he'll be our commissioner but someone's setting up our pick'em league let's blow that up let's make that pick'em league really fun we gotta get i was thinking we need a trophy made winner gets their name engraved on the trophy and you get the trophy which is that's awesome i think you get an episode where you get to come on the football card pod maybe do a victory lap talk some shit like you won the league you got a trophy you get a the pod appearance chop it up with the boys and then yeah i think we need to just also a a group chat gotta get the football like a pick'em group chat like figure out some sort of trash talking component because that's what makes any fantasy league any pick'em league fun is just you know gentle ribbing and roasting and other commentary so yeah put those things together this the football car pod pick'em league put it on your calendars get ready it's coming we will definitely organize in the back end we've got a little bit of runway but expect that so we're gonna expect you to be there if you're listening we want you to be a part of it we want you to you know tell your damn friends about it and so there'll be more information that come but yeah if you win the football card podcast pick'em league you deserve a damn trophy and this is not a participation trophy not not everyone's getting one it will be the crown jewel and you'll get it you'll get access to it and then after year one then we'll probably ask for it back so we can send it to the next year's winner and we'll have a rich history here but yeah man i'm excited for it nothing like some hardware gotta gotta have some hardware episode fifty five wouldn't be possible without our wonderful sponsors card ladder the only ones i'm gonna say this right now but if you're going to the national be at the card ladder booth it was incredible last year so many conversations i'll be recording content i think thursday so my thursday i'll probably be pretty busy there doing work however i will be there probably many other days and would love to have chats talk football cards and football cards with all of you last year was so fun people just dumping their cards on the bar people talking about what what they're what they're picking up that was just such a fun time last year i remember the conversation very vividly john of this twenty twelve jay cutler finite up for auction and that was the talk of the card ladder space so it'll be interesting to see if there's any other cards online going down while there's the madness in person but yeah be there let's let's connect and let's get you if you're not already to sign up for card ladder because if you're not what are you doing what are you doing yeah there's that at in the moment i was very annoyed that that card the cutler finite was listed during the national like it was like ten day auction listed before the start of the national ended after the national but in hindsight it led to a lot of yeah chatter and publicity for that card talk i probably talked about it so much at the national i probably drove the final price up like i probably talked to the under bidder at some point they were probably lurking amongst us there but yeah but also now i'm thinking i'm like that's a great strategy like maybe maybe that's the new the new zag is like not selling your cards before the national or at the national it's having the auction span the duration of the national so love this point i've been alluding to this in some of my content but i finalized yesterday a just crazy deal on my end and you're always like at the national it's good no no not outside of the national but will certainly impact my national experience because the card that i acquired very very costly and yeah it's it's it was a process but i'm excited about that it'll be a long ways away until i'm going to share what the card is on stacking slabs because it's the whole dance of this is cards big enough where i have to give up a lot of cards that i really love but i say all this to say that this is how i operate resources aligned week and a half conversation in play drumbeat going last yesterday deal finalized pay meaning payment given to seller and then instantly like that trigger was and this had been a process i've been doing in the background where we sit you know judgment day and you're like okay well i think this stack of cards will amount to this much money and i instantly like i was like i was ready it was like once payment was wired i went and i just like got the box it was it was i just had to package it together i literally ran to fedex and drop it off it was like out of sight out of mind and i'm like reflecting on that twenty four hours later and i'm like man that was pretty intense and you know when you buy a big grill like that like you're going to give up just cards you love and it's just part of it and so i i yeah i had to i had to say goodbye to a lot of cards and there will be cards that will be up for auction that people will be like oh my god like brett did you know about this car and i'll be like it's my car like that's that's i'm expecting that but i don't know it when you big cards can change the way your collection is structured so yeah dude i've been it's been a lot of lot of just thinking and processing but yeah i say all this to say those cards are away and i'm looking at the calendar i'm like when are these gonna get run and they'll probably get run around the national which years ago i've been like it's a terrible thing but i'm also now it's like i don't know i don't know if that's if that's real or not like i'm not scared if they run like around the national i think like these ideas of like budgets being tied up this and that like i'm sure there's part of that but also like people also are getting a shit ton of cash they will need to spend money there's another side of it you know so yeah i don't think there's any downside to that i think if anything people are more and more like arming themselves to be able to spend when cards come up and i feel like more and more in in my mind the last few years big cards have been popping up around the national online that i end up like drawing my attention because again the odds are the big card that you want is gonna pop up online before it's gonna just be in the showcase that you happen to stumble upon at the national like that i'm never finding anything i want at the nash that's not true i've found awesome cards in my collection at the national but it's it's harder it's it's just way harder i feel like especially when you're a focused kinda collector where like i'm never finding jay cutler cards at the national i'll say that or like certain priest homes i've seen one priest homes card in a showcase at the national ever so yeah yeah my my expectation is not to to buy anything and if i find something that i like and buy it it'll be a surprise that's kinda my mentality going into this year yeah but that's fun i like like some of my favorite yeah just go in there with the ability to just pick something up is always fun too and yeah just seeing what happens i love deals i love consolidations too i haven't done one since the cutler and you hear and you talk about it i can't wait to hear what this card is and hear that story but i know it's a tough process to let go some of these cards that you know put so much time and effort into getting but i don't know there's something about when that number gets too big and then it boom shrinks down into one card is fun and i'm sure that card is worth it i'm excited to i'd like for everyone to hear about it should we get into the opening topic let's do it what's going on so i think i have more tabs open from card ladder than ever in the history we're gonna get into fifty five but have to say this out of the gates and shout out my man pigskin pancake sports cards for tagging me in this post but yeah he decided to share with me the fact that this adrian peterson twenty twelve prism gold in a cgc nine five was sold via fanatics buy it now best offer for one thousand three hundred dollars and so what a sale i mean whoever saw this first and got access to it and bought it just maybe one of the biggest steals of the year the previous sale of this card was in a psa ten and it sold for eleven thousand one hundred dollars in november so obviously this isn't a psa ten but come on like thirteen hundred to eleven thousand one hundred so this is fun this makes the hobby seem imperfect from a marketplace perspective which i think is awesome for anyone buying cards and these moments come few and far between especially it seems like now where everyone's trying to get squeeze every dollar out of every card but what's your reaction to this like what's your speculation for how and why this sale took place yeah i mean i love the idea of this still being possible of i mean because first and foremost what do you think this card's actually worth closer to ten grand man well we're gonna talk let's let's hold that question because we're gonna talk about some of the sales of bigger names on the twenty twelve gold prism front on the others on the other side of this and then let's let's end with like what we think this card is worth than that i was just going off that eleven k any anyways regardless of price because like as a buyer this makes me happy that you can still find steals if you will you know popping up if you're checking those safe searches and doing all the things that these still are there does make me hurt for the seller a little bit like i don't know i would be i would be bummed if i sold the card and then found out later i could have maybe sold it for ten times the price but i guess that's like how did you not know or like i don't know do you not have card ladder check a comp look it look it up so yeah this is a this is a good sale for the buyer and awesome card i mean what a cool picture yeah adrian peterson mvp year like coming off the injury just awesome awesome card so my so i have a like a conspiracy theory here of how and why this took place and i it may potentially some mixed signals but first of all the first thing that is striking outside of the card is the cgc holder that this card is in now cgc authenticates raw cards for the fanatics marketplace so i don't know if there was some sort of tie in on the grading side with the marketplace where somebody had this card raw and they decided to based on i don't know some workflow grade it with cgc and it came back and somehow before it like went through like this is what i'm going to list it for it just went up on the marketplace i i don't know like that's the i know that's maybe a reaching a little bit but i've the fact that it's it's in a cgc holder and i know fanatics uses cgc to authenticate raw cards they're i'm speculating that there's something there that could have caused this interesting yeah beats me but congrats to that buyer yes congrats to that buyer so what i wanted to do is just run through some of the twenty twelve sales this year because i don't i don't know if i've ever heard i've heard anyone really talk about what's happening on the gold market and dude when i the and i will also say that the the cards for which i selected in this subset i think i just made it through like april i was like holy shit like i can't believe all these or maybe maybe i did go to may but i i definitely like there were two and three thousand dollar cards that sold that is are not on this list so the like a bobby wagner raw for instance sold for twelve k and or not twelve k two k and i did not i just didn't include them all because there was too many big sales so we'll just walk through some of these i'll just do them real quick so we've got the antonio brown psa eight sold for three thousand thirty two we've got the tony gonzalez psa nine selling for two thousand six hundred and ninety nine we've got the infamous clay matthews in a psa ten selling for twenty three hundred dollars we've got demaryius thomas in a psa ten selling for three thousand four hundred and eighty dollars got matt stafford monster sale for seventy five hundred in a psa eight we've got larry fitzgerald in a psa nine for seven thousand nine hundred and forty eight dollars we have gronk just like this is auction too on ebay thirty one thousand eight hundred and sixty seven dollars and a b g s nine five big ben selling for thirteen thousand eight hundred we've got megatron selling for ten thousand nine hundred and eighty and then the most recent is ray lewis and a psa nine for seven thousand two hundred dollars so dude that is those are just monster sales for golds and i think like the gold market for twenty twelve has changed dramatically in twenty twenty six and i haven't really seen too many conversations about it but yeah what what's your reaction and then based on those prices and then the previous peterson sale like what do you think that card is really worth yeah great question that was just awesome to see all those cards in a row just you clicking through the slides shout out if you're watching on patreon you get the video version of the football card pod but that just made me so hyped for twenty twelve gold like i can't you know some of those you forget how they look and then you get to see ten in a row i love things in quantity i love when you know there's a group of like like looking cards together and that made me wanna like play a guessing game almost someone should make an app where it's like ray lewis twenty twelve gold pops up and i'm guessing what the comp is or like mhmm give me a number and i guess if it's higher or lower you could gamify sorry i just took you off stage on accident all good yeah so awesome cards and then based on those sales i mean the gronk thirty one k still just jumps out like just seems crazy compared to when like calvin johnson's ten k like gronk i guess gronk's got the super bowls and honestly the claim of best tight end ever so that's just a bit like that being far and away above everyone sidecar for the high end brady collectors too true true gronk is the ultimate sidecar yeah having a brady twenty twelve and a gronk twenty twelve i mean what a duo duo that would be i yeah i think ap yeah like i think he's around ten like i'd say calvin is a calvin johnson is probably a decent comp for adrian peterson is where my head's at and seeing the psa ten sold for eleven last fall then the cgc nine five i'd yeah i mean i i think that eleven k psa ten is probably up so i think yes you know i don't know i'd i'd just like look at that calvin johnson sale if i were a buyer i'd be trying to work to to that as my like oh as a reference point anyways yeah no doubt i just think it's fun to see because i think for so long football card collectors looked at what was happening with twenty twelve basketball and the golds and granted there's no black or one of one but you just see these prices of these cards and post playing day cards you know going for you know that that tens of thousands of dollars and you look at this data and it's to me it reads a lot it reads more closely granted like kobe steph lebron like that's a whole another category but these are reading very similar to what i see regular and as a matter of fact when i was sourcing these i looked and i was seeing the nba sales side by side with these sales and they and i filtered i think two thousand dollars i had minimum two thousand dollars as i was running this report and they the the prices looked similar to basketball in in a way so i i think that is pretty cool and it feels like the this set in football has come a long way yeah i was just looking because i forgot the numbers and on the basketball side the lebron twenty twelve prism gold sold in september for seven hundred and ninety three thousand it's two dates card letter value of one point three million so i think that's one of the it's hard for me but if i have a mount rushmore of panini era cards that is going to be on my mount rushmore yeah that is one of the more just like iconic photos card layouts you'll you'll see in the heat jersey finals patch the thunder in the background so it's his first championship like just so much going into that card on like the player history front but then you get into the set and the parallel and all that yeah that's a monster i don't think lebron wants to play football like we asked i think he's actually gonna take one of these pitches from some team i know it's unfortunate we wanna see you play tight end lebron come on over under if lebron played a full season nfl at tight end over under six and a half receiving touchdowns oh that's i think it depend it depends a lot on the quarterback situation mhmm if he if lebron is you know playing with a young like unproven quarterback i'd probably go under but it like you put you put you put lebron like let's say lebron was just like sorry lakers but i'm going to the rams and he's put he's played with stafford i'd say he'd catch twelve touchdowns yeah i think easily i just yeah the again when you think about it like oh my god calvin johnson the biggest receiver ever he was six five braun's six nine what corner is covering no no one no one he's running o he's running over you you have to have oh man i'm thinking like nick bonito like you need like some really physical versatile backer to even stand a chance i think because he'd have to you'd have to jam him up front and use the physicality that i think that'd be the only chance yeah i just think and i'm a brown stan but i just feel like he's too big too fast to get jammed like that like i don't know he's a freak we gotta see it i'm hey he hasn't signed yet holding out hope can the nfl teams start making their pitches can the nfl teams enter the chat they had they were i'd i'd saw some team accounts where like posted pictures of him in nfl jerseys so they're trying the colts i think posted one i think everyone was doing it but lebron and tyler warren that's a couple it's like ken diliger marcus pollard yeah two tight end set baby jumbo package thirteen personnel everyone's doing it now it's a good way not to get get your quarterback hurt just hand the ball off every play and get some blocking alright good good opening topic should we get into the numbers let's do it alright episode fifty five linebacker summer we are well underway in linebacker summer and fifty five also has a claim for goat linebacker number like i mean i said that with fifty four but just derrick brooks and junior seau on their own make this a pretty compelling number for fifty five had a lot of seau and derrick brooks shout outs in the dms the people are ready for linebacker summer i know you're gonna talk seau so i'll leave that but there was a shout out for derek thomas the linebacker who wore fifty five in college so he didn't in the nfl but derek thomas was a linebacker for the alabama crimson tide from eighty five to eighty eight and he has the record he had an eighty eight twenty seven sacks in that season which is just unreal twenty seven sacks are you kidding me and it's a record still the single season record it still stands and then he also had nine blocked kicks in his college career just another insane stat when you really think about how hard it is to block a kick once let alone nine times in a career derek thomas then was drafted by the chiefs fourth overall in the nfl draft he was a rookie of the year in eighty nine he was a first team all pro in ninety and ninety one he made nine pro bowls he led the nfl in sacks in nineteen ninety with twenty just was having an amazing career and then he unfortunately died in a car accident while he was still you know in in the league and a a effective player so pretty heartbreaking story there he ended his nfl career with a hundred and twenty six and a half sacks so just was inducted into the hall of fame but he didn't wear fifty five in his pro career but still worthy of being shouted out here for his college number so shout out derek thomas just the absolute beast of an nfl player nfl player yeah derek thomas was unbelievable good guy to watch on youtube and watch his highlights great technique the other guy i was looking at the sheet that i don't think is on the sheet but we should we should definitely mess mention since that is linebacker summer we should definitely mention terrell suggs oh okay t sizzle well i was gonna get there and lance briggs about how and how like parallel they are of like suggs is to ray lewis as briggs is to erwin yes the the fifty five to the fifty four just these the duos the afc version the nfc version there are some good good parallels there i believe suggs and briggs were both o three draft class too so yeah something there but yes shout out t sizzle of course can i before we i know that we've got more to cover we've got some this is extensive it is linebacker summer do we do we have when i think of like linebacker summer i'm thinking of like a a song of the summer is there is there a sound like if these guys were that we're showing highlights is does any song come to your head that would would would that is maybe topical hot trendy or maybe it's not but just fits within linebacker summer i'm glad you brought this up because i was contemplating this when i was posting the fifty four number carousel on instagram i i was like i should put a song with this i should start putting songs with these carousels that are themed to this batch linebacker summer and so i was kinda doing this thought exercise cycling through songs and my mind went to just good old fashioned like youtube big hits compilations back in the day it was just a solid you know here comes the boom p o d or yeah no here comes the then there's the nelly song boom one of those is boom one of them is here comes the boom but then throw it up little john and the east side boys and pastor troy that was just maybe the just crunk crunk music is what i think of when i think of linebacker summer i think of yeah early again i'm stuck in the early two thousands but early two thousands atlanta little john in the east side boys is kinda where my head goes the pod reference on the football card pod payable on death i believe is what it stands for really wow i think so okay dude their first my first exposure with pod they had a single their first single i think was a song called southtown and it just kicked ass so like shout out pod god that band i haven't thought about them in a while i just remember what was the instead of taking a test he took two to the chest youth of the nation yeah oh yes yes my mindset maybe because it's like i'm in the moment but i'll go like i'll counter the two thousands and go mainstream america right now just in terms of pop charts dude i'm gonna go i'm gonna go olivia rodrigo maggots for brains which dude i i'm not a mainstream music guy i don't listen to the radio i'm a music sicko but there has not been an album i can remember that has mainstream attention critics' attention everyone's attention and it was all bubbling up and i was like hi dude i need to check out this new olivia rodrigo album like everyone's talking about it dude and it's so fucking good dude i i like can't get enough of it i'm like this is the my favorite like mainstream pop album that i've listened to in years so i'm gonna just because she rules and she's a great personality and she writes great music i'm gonna wanna shout out olivia rodrigo for linebacker summer here that i'm sour was on repeat when that came out we were a big sour household and then guts too i haven't listened admittedly to the new album that much but i'm glad to hear this cosigned because yeah no very pro rodrigo household over here she's got bangers and like dude great songwriting great great genre great sounds this is this is i liked her other two records and there has been times where i self reflect and i've got a running list of my favorite albums of the year her new rep who her new album is dude and i love the new boards of canada album and i i love the new ice age album but dude i think this new olivia rodrigo is sitting in my top spot right now i'm up i'm obsessed with it it's so good from a thematic and songwriting perspective my kids love it it's just there's so much that goes on where it's like i feel like all these bridges are just breaking down and everyone's being connected like music snobs like mainstream people i'm like this album is what we need it's bringing everyone together so i'm all for it awesome yeah maybe that that could be the fifth episode fifty five theme song for the the carousel you wanna talk seo yeah ball junior seau junior so junior seau his career spanned from nineteen ninety to two thousand and nine talk about longevity six first team all pros three second team all pros nfl man of the year in ninety four one thousand eight hundred and forty seven career tackles fifty six and a half sacks eighteen interceptions eleven forced fumbles eleven fumble recovery only one touchdown he was posthumanously inducted in the hall of fame in twenty fifteen obviously tragic death this opened the doors for investigation around cte and sports but i don't wanna talk about kind of the doom and gloom i just wanna talk about seo as a player very few players in my lifetime played as passionately as seo always crushed people always played with a smile on his face read something in my research that seau was the type of guy that he treated kinda everyone the same and he would refer to everyone in the locker room as buddy so he would call like when he joined the patriots he would call tom brady buddy he would call everyone buddy and i thought that was fun he is one of those players i've talked about this i think at some point in the history of the show but he is one of those players when i grew up as a kid and you saw like whether it's folders for school or whether it was like video games where you have a team featuring one player i all like the chargers always caught my attention because junior seau was like the one and and and derek thomas which is ironic derek derek thomas on the chiefs but then junior seo on the chargers they were like the featured guy of that team and i was always just like man this guy must be incredible at defense that he's their guy and so i always just liked watching him play and thought he was special and just like his career it just spans so much i'll never forget at the end like when he was playing with the patriots i was like of course they have junior sale now but incredible career special player and then also will bring up his highest selling card which is just a dirty dirty card which is the ninety seven metal universe junior sale pmg green it sold in twenty two for seven thousand three hundred and ninety dollars i can't imagine what this thing would go for now but just a banger of a green pmg so shout out junior seau one of the best linebackers to ever play the game yeah this card incredible incredible career yeah i feel like almost a blind spot for me sometimes just because of how tragic and sad the ending of his story was but like when you really look back at the career it's like he was one of the best linebackers ever if i look at the highest av to wear number fifty five avs a metric pro football reference uses to attach kind of a value to single players approximate value seau is number one for all fifty fives with a hundred and ninety five total av which is good for nineteenth of all time across all players so that's pretty impressive there question what defensive players are ahead of them according to that so we've got ray lewis at number ten bruce smith at number nine reggie white at number eight so like those three guys alan page i don't know who alan page is i'm looking at alan page he was a defensive tackle alan page is higher and then looks like yeah that's it so four other elite group yeah it's an elite group but also just some more fifty fives as i'm looking all av players to wear fifty five some many linebackers that deserve shout outs including we got seau derrick brooks and trell suggs those are top three in your av then you've got chris hamburger which i do wanna talk about him wayne walker lance briggs joey porter willie mcginnis mhmm so another just willie mcginnis gauntlet of three guys john abraham otis wilson yeah just there's fifty five is deep fifty five might be the deepest linebacker core number that we have on the football card pod but real quick i did wanna talk about let me get back to my sheet this chris hamburger because just another he's just a great guy i love looking back at a little vintage football guy so he played his entire fourteen year career for the redskins but he went to enlisted in the army after school because he just didn't you know didn't think football was actually a thing and he planned to pursue a career as an officer in the military but then a serious eye socket injury during a flag football game derailed that plan so i didn't know they were playing flag football in the forties but i guess at the on the army base they had to you know protect their their guides a little bit but how'd you get an eye socket injury during a flag football game just i have questions but so he leaves the military service and then he decides to go play college football he gets a scholarship from the university of north carolina played college football for the tar heels at center and then defense middle linebacker where he was calling signals so he's the he's calling everything center and middle linebacker i'm like wow they could get you a guy who can do both and then he gets to the nfl where he played linebacker for the redskins and he was a five time first team all pro yeah just made it to the hall of fame just had an all around awesome career but i just love the playing center and middle linebacker in college is pretty impressive i bet you he did well in school yeah just these guys that could do it also shout out chris hamburger cool fifty fives fifty five what are you what a number great group my mind is already racing towards fifty six but i gotta stay in the moment linebacker summer is awesome man i love it summer we are underway alright should we jump into some questions yes hit that mailbag alright so this is a this first one great question great topic there's a lot to unpack here this is gonna be a very valuable one i think for for listeners on a serious topic too so lsu tiger collector sixty five brooks loyal listener on the football card pod shout out brooks awesome collector he said this as an estate planning attorney i have seen firsthand the consequences that result when someone passes away without the appropriate estate planning in place in the sports card context a lot of collectors spend years investing time and money to build a meaningful collection but fail to implement a succession plan for their collection curious for your thoughts on collection succession planning and if you have seen examples of collectors who have done it well so i thought like a topic is worth considering and like worth discussing but at the same time i i messaged back i was like this is a wonderful topic do you have any advice on how collectors should be handling a succession plan because he's you know with this being his domain to me that would be more valuable to hear tips coming from an expert than to hear tips coming from me and you who might just be guessing or hypothesizing versus actually having real life experience with this what i what i like about this question and the way it's all transpired even before we're addressing it is that the call to action here is go hey if this is a topic you're interested in learning more go talk to brooks so brooks is using the football card podcast mailbag as a potential business development tool which i i can i can appreciate yeah i was thinking that too i was like wow start a whole consulting service just for this one specific lane brooks we'll we'll feed them to you we'll just take a minor cut yep it's very what very nominal fee but we'll we'll we'll call you out we'll mention your business here every week but yeah go ahead what what did brooks have to say yes so let's see he sorry i lost myself he said i'd be happy to send a few thoughts and he goes alright estate planning tips for collectors start with this assume your family loved ones intended beneficiaries know nothing about sports cards this assumption will drive every planning decision you make and will help you plan with intentionality very good call out mhmm number one inventory what you have and write it down create a detailed inventory of your collection especially high value cards store this information somewhere where your family or executor can find it update it regularly for ninety nine percent of collectors their families will have no idea what they are looking at or what it's worth that's a great call out and something you can do in card ladder shout out card ladder easy way to kinda document your entire collection number two identify in writing who gets what clearly spell out an appropriate estate planning document who gets what be as specific as possible for example i give my eighty six fleer jordan michael jordan psa ten cert number to my son but going with that consider what your family wants if no one in your family shares your passion for sports cards which is the case for most collectors' families then it will make more sense to include detailed instructions in your estate plan setting forth the orderly sale for your collection saves your family from making uninformed decisions e g a fire sale about your collection i think that's a pretty big one i mean all of this is very big but yeah just having the like send cards to this person to auction which he gets into with well point number four remember your digital assets many collectors have a digital account tied to their collecting ebay instagram comsee fanatics psa vault etcetera write down your login information for such accounts in a secure digital estate plan and ensure your executor family can access such information so very important to have the digital stuff documented but then number five back to kinda what i was saying with three designate a sports card collection adviser consider appointing a trusted fellow collector card shop owner dealer etcetera to serve as an adviser to your family beneficiaries after your passing more importantly formalize this appointment under your estate plan documents designate adviser in your will or trust and grant them specific powers related to your collection like authority to recommend appropriate avenue to sell your cards approve sales etcetera so a lot a lot to unpack there there's some more but any any thoughts so far i love the last one because it's it is foundational to how this hobby and industry works and the trust you put in another individual in this space and trust enough to advise your family when you are gone on what to do that to me all the other stuff is important but that to me is my big takeaway and i think that's i love that like dude can you like i can't imagine being asked that by somebody else can you imagine if someone came to you and be like whether god forbid they were sick or something else and they came to you and they said i want you to be the adviser to for my collection to my family to me it is like the nfl man of the air i'm not sure there's a higher honor that you could have of somebody entrusting you to advise your family on what to do with your collection that that gives me goosebumps thinking about it so these these topics are scary and they're uncomfortable but i think they're certainly important so i just wanna shout out brooks like i've i have nothing more of value to add to this conversation outside of i have had conversations on passionate profession i think three or four with michael osaki who's psa's lead appraiser and this guy travels the globe like having these sorts of conversations in these unfortunate circumstances with families he's a good resource he's another person like go listen to those conversations if you want more because he's a wealth of knowledge he's been doing it for decades but yeah this is this is a really good insight and hopefully like i would imagine just this in and of itself will help at least one person out there think about what they should be doing so great topic and yeah brooks appreciate you sharing your knowledge yeah awesome super valuable couple more things i'll i'll get through he says number six leave an informal letter providing context to your collections such letter could address any or more of the following topics your most valuable cards provenance of certain cards auction houses and consignment companies you trust and don't include any contacts at such places specific places you believe certain cards will sell i think that's all that all that's valuable i do think if you have a trusted collection adviser well i'm not gonna i'm not gonna overrule brooks' advice here i was about to say like i don't know if you need to do all that but it's probably best that you do all that and then seven document what you paid for each card specifically high value card keep receipts invoices etcetera establishing your cost basis in each card without such records when it comes time to sell your cards during your life or following your death this could trigger unnecessary income taxes so that's that's a good call out and again an another feature that card ladder has like with every card in your collection you can put in what you paid for it i don't know if you can upload documents to card ladder cards like can you upload a receipt like i know you can upload card images but would be interesting if on your on the back end for your own collection if you could upload documents so josh figured that out there's a new feature number eight insure your cards homeowners insurance typically has low limits or no coverage at all for collectibles so consider separate insurance policy for collectibles or add a rider to your existing homeowners policy that's another big one i recently just finally insured mine through a collectibles specific plan and just feel much better because i i have most of my cards at home i like having my cards i like seeing my cards so yes that's good peace of mind and then almost done this is the very thorough advice they i'm wondering if we're gonna get a bill from brooks for this because we're there's a lot of maybe we should send brooks a bill because he's gonna there's gonna be some roi headed his way for this we're getting a cut we're taking a cut brooks and then finally he said i spoke with missus lsu tiger collector sixty five a family lawyer so shout out the brooks family law firm she offered a couple tips with her own context within the family lawyer context and she says one do all the things mister lsu tiger collector sixty five said above two consider a property agreement if you have a collection a cohabitation agreement a premarital agreement or a postnuptial agreement can spell out who gets the collection in the event of a split and saves the heartache of giving up a part of your beloved collection or paying the price for devoting too much attention and money to your hobby i think that means get a prenup for your collection sounds like it i like that and then number three make sure you know where your collection is to prevent an unexplained disappearance of your valuables and then from brooks so sorry for the long winded message don't apologize hope this helps feel free to edit reference whatever just wanted to make sure we gave you guys enough information to choose from i just thought it was all valuable enough to read off really appreciate them taking the time to put all that down and for us to share with the football card pod audience i think that's that's valuable stuff for anybody who's in this hobby yes and i will also say just i have had a lot of conversations over the years with brooks there are few better people in the football card space than brooks so you should all go follow him at minimum lsu tiger collector sixty five a just passionate collector who is busy with the family and i i that is such valuable information but i'm not surprised because it's on brand with brooks so thanks man that's great great stuff alright next up from digging paper he says football card sets should have off field slash non uniform insert sets to build the connection with the players the coolest cards are those where you can see the player's facial expression and personality and normal in uniform cards take this away so this is more of a take kinda thought this went in line with our last week's card call out the no helmet card which by the way that might have been my favorite pictures that might have been my favorite card call out to date that was so awesome they were just way more than i expected just uh-huh i that you know wasn't even thinking of so shout out everyone for that but yeah i guess what was your what are your thoughts here with the non or like so like a non uniform insert set that kinda got me thinking of there's like a nba insert set where i i can't think of what it's called but like shaq has like a boombox and he's like walking around i don't know i'll have to look it up but what are you what were you thinking i just i thought like how about like a hobbies insert like where like nfl player and doing their hobby like i saw a clip of riley leonard and michael pittman junior they be they became close because while pittman was on the colts the one year they overlapped because they both love fishing and i just then i just thought about like who like everyone's like how about a riley leonard card where he's just got like some trophy fish and he's just like hey smiling you gotta see a little personality but then you know these guys are on the field but they're very interesting guys who is it god why is my mind but who's the pokemon collector oh like aj dillon or like a football player yes not aj well aj jamal is it jamal williams yeah i think that's what it yeah but like you know all these guys have different interests i think maybe a good way to feature them would be outside of the grid iron inside of whatever their hobby is yeah i'd similar vein i went to like golfing cards of non golf okay like if they did a set of you know steph curry i guess these are basketball players but i mean josh allen big golfer i i think there are a lot of football players who are golfers and right now again back to lebron lebron's starting to golf i buy a lebron golf rookie card i think there'd be a market for non golfers golf cards could be a could be something there so hit us up tops next up from drake's pc shout out drake during the most recent card ladder confidential chris and brett discussed hobby correlations that existed in twenty twenty one that don't necessarily exist today as an example for those who haven't listened the card market highs of twenty twenty one were tied to bitcoin highs now the card market is scorching hot and bitcoin has cooled off tremendously another example not mentioned was the mentality of quote if x player is worth this then y player should be worth this so two kinda different things there but what are some hobby correlations that exist today in your opinions that are actually worthy of consideration the the thing that i've observed the most is the emphasis of the hobby on the debut set and putting a premium on first year anything which i think is valid i think first year is a great marker and should be considered more valuable in most instances than its predecessors so the first year of it all i think is something that has been bubbling up over the last couple years i mean we just ran through the prism gold sales i mean that is an indication those results of the hobby being like you know what first year does matter especially in a set that has a lot of attention and people like to collect yeah great great call out i thought there's a a couple things to unpack here one the cards versus bitcoin is like looking at two separate for the lack of a better word like assets right or asset classes two separate categories in the past year bitcoin down forty two percent the c l fifty which is why it's been so quiet i think so down forty two percent this year the c l fifty which is a card ladder index of like fifty cards that kinda represent the market you've got like mantle rookies in there but then some i think like luca rookies kinda just like a general nice snapshot of popular cards in the hobby is up sixty one percent in the last year so yes those two classes are going at very different directions so if you're looking for like correlations like i don't know what other alternate assets are doing like what other alternate asset would be up sixty one percent in the last year that would mirror cards it's kinda what i would be looking for not not to invest in i guess just if i'm trying to find a parallel to like twenty twenty one like is there anything else out there i think to me it just shows kind of the people like stuff people like things like i think all sorts of kinda collectibles in general have been doing well and even like you get into like designer goods like like hermes birkin bags like there's a hope there's a whole market for that obviously but then there's like a whole resale market where like those things are holding value and going up and like vinyl i feel like vinyl's having even more of a moment especially as a lot of these kind of asset classes like develop the type of technology that card ladder is like the tracking like vinyl specifically like discogs it's like a cool website where you can like log your vinyl collection and look at prices of like recent sales and like that's getting more digitized so yeah i just feel like as as more of those different types of alternate assets like build out kind of the infrastructure that a card ladder has or these other data trackers you would see those grow but i still think cards is just so far and away ahead of those just with the volume of cards and the history of it's been around for a hundred and fifty years now so it'll be hard for something brand new to kinda shoot up and be the same but i don't know we're a big cbs sunday morning house over here we usually watch it it's usually cbs like tuesday nights for us by the time we watch it but they had a story on the rise of the vinyl listing room and like these bars being created where people are paying twenty bucks to just sit there and listen to a high powered stereo and yep they'll do curated nights but like they were interviewing the people and like my wife turned to me after this and she was like after the story she's like how much did that resonate with you and i was just like a lot because the people were basically like you know being in person with people and just getting time with no phone and just sitting there and reflecting on the music like that is super powerful and something people are looking for so like i found that interesting but then just with physical items in general whether it's vinyl or whether it's cards it's just like there's comfort with the physical item there's comfort in the process of acquiring them and we as human beings love possessions especially possessions that have meaning and so while we get more digital across the board like i'm all i'm i'm placing i've placed every bet that i possibly can have on my hobby on my life on cards as an industry for the most part because of they they mean something to a lot of people and physical assets will always matter so that's my that's my stance i'm i'm i'm pro physical items i i love i don't know if it's from a nature of like how we grew up it's different across a lot of different areas but yeah man it's it's awesome because not everything can be digital like you need some physical items to to to make to balance everything out yeah great great insights my mind was going towards what's the football equivalent of a listening bar where like the vinyl bar where or the the highlight watching bar where you go into a nice little bar and there's a screen just playing deshaun jackson punt return highlights and you'd no phone you just sit down and you're watching and then someone queues up some o six ladainian tomlinson highlights and you watch that season and just live in the moment and watch these highlights together i i would go to that bar you get in there this is what you do is what you do is you queue that up and then you pay the fee for you know the the gymnance to slide in and he's just telling stories of each of these players while the highlights packages are going on like like what do you how much money do you want i've got it for you i'm i'm there yeah wait i'm going to boom every night just playing pod on repeat showing big hits on the screen i'm there oh and then one other thing drake had mentioned of the kinda separate another example not mentioned was the mentality of if x player is worth this then y player should be worth this mhmm i've never liked that comparison or just been able to take it seriously because i just feel like i'm so biased and like just me personally i can't take those serious because i'm biased like and because what are you basing that off of is it off stats is it off accolades we've just seen that like robert horry has seven nba titles does that make him worth more than michael jordan no but like what like what how can you compare if this player is this if that player is that it's all because it's tied back to you know moments and meaning that people have with players and like i admittedly overvalue a lot of thing like i overvalue jay cutler than most anyone and i don't expect to like to abide by like if this player is worth this then this player should be worth that like if i don't know i think it's a good reference point but i just don't think it can be like used as a end all be all my biggest pet peeve in this hobby is when lines get blurred behind performance and collectability they're not the same thing like and people who want it to be the same thing are the people on the front end trying to make money off of you that's the the yeah i just the the comparison in the oh well he won two super bowls and your guy won one super bowl so my guy should be worth more it's like that's all bullshit it like none of that matters because no one understands the true demand and collector base of each of those subjects and people don't just collect players there's overlap with sets products parallels so i think in its yeah that that that mindset is so elementary to to be like oh the performance equals value it doesn't yeah alright next up from cards and cardio if you could design a dual auto card who would your dream duo be i feel like we've had something similar to this in the past but i decided i was like alright i'm just gonna try and have a little fun with this one i went red grange and al capone because in my football card pod research and just research of nfl in general i'm just pretty fascinated by early nineteen twenty chicago when like the bears are on the rise and it's like this ups the nfl is this upstart thing in like nineteen twenty chicago during prohibition while al capone is also on the rise and the fact that like george halas and al capone are probably in the same rooms and capone's probably betting on these early bears and cardinals games just like that era has been fascinating to me so yeah red grange and al capone i would buy that right now if that exists i will buy that right now how how about a like authentic like cigar piece of cigar bud that was smoked also embedded into the card that relic capone relics i'm sure i'm sure there's stuff out there i've seen there's like abraham lincoln hair cards there is yes wow getting a hair auto card just i don't need hair in my cards i mean i do i'm just gonna go out there and say this i don't need any hair in my cards it always looks like pubic hair it probably is so you think there was people like waiting outside of like the bathroom and like after abe lincoln took a piss in the year did they have urinals back then or were they just pissing in holes probably pissing in holes probably out there's outhouses but i'd imagine there's more free like not always going to the outhouse especially if you're a guy you're just going around yeah corner yeah i'm just i'm envisioning like the person trying to make a buck just like going into the bathroom afterwards and trying to pull a relic for the the future set one day leaf is gonna want this yeah leaf leaf for sure and just the difference between game used there player worn hair this hair is not associated with any particular body part oh boy give me that give me that game use toilet seat hair that's that's the real stuff that's what you want that is what you want i think we've taken this thread oh i i'll share mine real quick yeah i i'd i've i've been fascinated in my own thoughts with the irsay family mostly post jim irsay passing and just i started to notice going two games last year and how things had changed in the stadium like they did away with the old security system and the ursay girls being in charge like dude i'm saving like fifteen minutes because it's just like walk through the things and you know if you have a bomb you're gonna get stopped and i think about this i'm like all these small changes which they compound over time and i'm just like thinking about that that history of the family like you know they got in a mayflower left baltimore robert orsay moved to indianapolis and like it's just this one family that has owned my team and it's gone from robert orsay to jim orsay to now jim orsay's daughters and i'm like fascinated but like people are into like travis and the the wedding oh taylor swift taylor swift's i had a complete breitbart people are into like royal family stuff and it's like i'm interested like my thing like that is like the ursay dynamic so i probably do like a robert and jimmer say like on card autograph i think i would be a buyer for that like i'd be i'd be all about that not saying like when robert had full control like things weren't great but i don't know there's a story there and it's a story of my favorite team so that's what i would be saying yeah that's awesome and yeah i think i blended some lines during my because i said red red grange and al capone but i think i was meeting george halas al capone but also i would do because red grange was the first star player that george halas went out and paid for during that era so either way i would take a red grange al capone auto or a george halas al capone auto because they were all they were all running around chicago streets going to speakeasies probably together prohibition crazy crazy that prohibition happened what a time people were going so so ham that the government had to be like hold up we gotta shut this down and then you just couldn't hold people back mm-mm alright last up from high plains golf pro what qbs from this year's class are you most or least excited for i struggled with this one because i'm not i'm a i'm a pretty big college football fan and i but i'm not like i don't try to look at anything from like the translate to nfl i don't like have those chops but i'm just not very excited i mean you could talk mendoza and there's like you know there's some interest there because like my my wife went to iu and my family my in law side are mostly iu fans so i'm like curious to see like how he's gonna translate but i just yeah it's it's to me it's one of the more elite we've had some stinkers this is and i don't hopefully this one is good but it just on paper i'm i'm not one way or the other on anyone it's just like whatever yeah i have no spare excitement to invest in anyone who's not a chicago bears player like if mendoza does great that's fun like good for them and like yeah i was i had to look up the list and it's like carson beck i do not care about carson beck and if he does go to and like i'm not also like oh no i don't wanna watch carson beck i'm just kinda locked in on mhmm caleb williams and the bears so well on this on this thread though before we move off to cards do i every week and we're gonna get to some sales but i dig through like the depths of card ladder sales and i i sift through a lot of stuff and i will just say this i i can believe but i cannot at the same time and i will also say there is not one player in football and football cards who has more to lose this year than jackson dart i i i cannot believe what people pay for his cards i just cannot believe it like and it's not just one cards it's it's dozens of cards each and every week selling for you know not just thousands but ten it's crazy man and i'm not saying like jackson dart is terrible but jesus like there is a lot of money being invested in him so much and i just looked at his highest selling cars of all time june nineteenth i didn't see this his twenty twenty five topps chrome sapphire the pauperdasha that's papadasha yeah hot new one zero one the kinda like pink cracked ice looking parallel his one on one auto at a tops chrome sapphire sold for a hundred and five thousand dollars that's fucking crazy man a hundred k dude raw in the cgc authentic holder through fanatics premier hundred and five unbelievable can you imagine hitting that son of a bitch in a break that i couldn't send it to the auction house quick enough oh yeah it's like look at the the kid who sold the mac jones finite for a hundred k like what a move by that kid because that would have been very tempting to hold on to as a kid i mean i guess it's like get the money fast but i don't know if you pulled it and like weren't into it that much and it's like mac jones was just coming off that rookie year where they made the playoffs there would be temptation to like let's let this ride but smart on him and his family for being like yes no we gotta get we gotta sell this card if jackson dart won the super bowl this year how much would that card be valued at yeah it's like how much higher can it even go that's that's my question like once you hit six figures like how much higher can you go especially in this era where there's more jackson dart insert one of there's inserts on top we're talking about sapphire which is like yeah a variation of the main set you know papadasha like the parallel that i can't even pronounce that i didn't even know about until three weeks ago and yeah he's got his nebula ninety four thousand nt shield auto seventy nine thousand green kaboon seventy six thousand it's just all of these are different one o ones you keep going there's then the topps chrome chromagraph superfractor topps chrome variation super factor topps chrome ultraviolet super factor you know there's just this it's a super factor for everything mhmm how many jackson dart how many dealers are going to be working their ass off at the national trying to unload as much jackson dart as possible everybody right yes yeah oh man can't wait alright sales marco sales yeah shout out card ladder here's one for you twenty five prism draft picks patrick mahomes black shimmer one of one psa ten in the texas tech of it all this this card still commanded twenty one k so i wanted to shout out college cards and yeah this obviously like there's a demand for mahomes it's ex he's an exceptional character but i don't know what i would have expected this card to sell for but twenty one k maybe not this high but what what a sale yeah that price is crazy i will say this card looks sick yes i and i'm not a shimmer guy or anything but just looking at the card if i was a texas tech fan this card is pretty awesome looking the black borders and just the black texas tech uniform looks awesome i went and searched highest selling prism draft picks cards of all time and this is the fourth highest prism draft picks sale ever so that's wow pretty big behind number three is a caitlin clark true black one of one out of twenty twenty four prism draft picks horizontal vertical or vertical okay it's in the she's wearing iowa yeah yeah it's prism draft picks obviously so that's number three at twenty one thousand nine sixty mhmm number two i guess this is kinda cheating because this is a graded set that's six it's like the rainbow of aaron judge mhmm so it's got six cards in there a gold a blue a red doesn't i don't know if any of these is a one on one but six different colored cards and then number one arch manning with his twenty twenty four prism draft picks gold vinyl one of one selling for thirty four thousand one hundred and sixty back in september of twenty twenty five so the arch i'm interested to see what happens with arch i feel like there was so much hype it died off coming back i think he's projected still first overall next year but that's one that that's a qb i will be more excited than than like mendoza or anyone from this year just it's a manning yeah i think yeah i'm invested yeah it'll be it'll be interesting to see how it shakes out obviously people see that name and they wanna collect his cards but yeah crazy mahomesale we move over to a card we've seen sell a lot and this is the ninety seven metal universe brett favre pmg red psa seven so let's see here a psa six this card sold for eleven thousand one hundred a psa six sold in march for sixteen thousand two hundred it's the fifth total sale so far of this card this year so like we're the i think the pmgs are great obviously they look good you know the when people think nineties they think pmgs but i think they're getting exposed a little bit the reds especially because they're just changing hands too quick it's just too many sales so this like i mentioned this card in a psa six in march sold for sixteen thousand two hundred and then here in a seven this is eleven thousand one hundred so what's going on with these yeah i mean there's a hundred and thirty five copies that's what's good that's what's going on there's a hundred and thirty five that's so many yeah and i i know the whole not as many of them made it through and survived and it's like alright even if ten percent of the reds survived that's more than a prism gold like that's you know that's thirteen copies so and i think one counterfeit to worry about as well yeah counterfeits to worry about yeah i mean awesome cards i just think they're yeah it's there there's a lot of them and this was a pop it looks like it says it's a pop six i wonder what the total graded pop is on this card if you clicked in on the i didn't i didn't mention that it was a it has an nba sticker on it twenty four yep and just psa twenty four i wonder yeah i feel like that means i do love shout out card ladder the little profile yeah things that they're building out where you can click on certain cards and players and see pop reports across different brands but yeah so okay twenty four copies of this one that's still a lot all things considered when we're talking about you know people are especially now hunting one of ones and low numbered stuff something out of twenty four if like a new release had a card numbered out of twenty four that would not yeah it's just i think hard to maintain these crazy prices when a copy is selling every other month indeed the card is it looks cool it's real like i'm a fan of these cards it's just oh yeah unfortunate how many sales we see of them got another packers player we've got a eighty six reggie white the minister of defense rookie and a psa ten which is a pop forty three this card sold ebay auction for nine thousand seven hundred and sixty six dollars which is quite impressive with a pop forty three card but i mean we're going to ares obviously one of the greatest defensive players of all time this all time high was in august of twenty five a psa ten sold via golden for eleven thousand seven hundred and twelve dollars but yeah man it's a big big card but it's a there's i have you kidding i'm probably this is probably the only reggie white rookie card so if you want it in a psa ten this is what you're paying for it yeah that card looks awesome just the the green border green jersey this also nineteen eighty six tops has me contradicting my own take of i hate when a set has a one color that they base their set around this eighty six tops always has these this green and white striped border i think that looks iconic and it looks awesome with like every player like the walter payton is one of my favorite looking cards like you can think of the jerry rice right away of this card and like it looks awesome like the green i don't know for whatever whatever chemistry is going on in my brain these cards look awesome to me and the the one specific color border throughout an entire set doesn't bother me with this set this looks awesome very cool card dude i just think about like the shoe boxes in my closet as a kid and just opening the top and there's just like eighty six tops football in the box so definitely iconic set ninety seven pinnacle totally certified platinum gold barry sanders out of thirty psa nine sold for seven thousand seven hundred dollars we recently talked about the psa ten selling sold for i think one sold in march yes for thirteen thousand eight hundred so i don't know i thought it'd be like with a having thirty copies a recent psa ten sale a recent psa nine sale and it looks about what i expected maybe slightly more but these cards are certainly awesome i know nineties collectors really enjoy them i think they've got a cool effect they have a cool image yeah thirty copies in the of ninety stuff is i would consider pretty rare and scarce oh yeah yeah this looks cool i wanna see one of these in hand i feel like this looks would look better in hand than the scan because when i'm looking at the scan i'm like this needs more gold where's the gold you know we're losing gold at the bottom but i can imagine in hand it's got more of a cool kinda like swirly pattern going on here with the silver and the gold we have a fall from grace here with the twenty twenty one nikko collins prism black finite psa eight why don't you come back down from this cloud nikko collins with a just a haircut here we this card sold in july of twenty five for fifteen thousand two hundred and twenty four dollars it sells a year later for seven thousand two hundred dollars how you doing nikko collins investors yeah i mean the skill player of it all is very good it's like we've talked about it before what have you done for me lately league and collecting lane where i mean even nico collins i'm looking at his it's like in twenty twenty three yeah he had twelve one thousand two hundred ninety seven yards eight touchdowns so it's like a that's a good season that's not like didn't set the world on fire or anything but good season but then since then he had thousand yards in twenty twenty four and eleven hundred yards in twenty twenty five it's like he didn't go from thirteen to fifteen to seventeen which is what the person wanted when maybe what the person wanted when they bought this card last summer but yeah i think it's just like it's hard with those skill players as soon as they plateau or just have a down year it feels like people just dump them off like i i want colston loveland cards but i'm like i it's so hard for me to pay colston loveland prices because then i'm like this was brock bowers two years ago and like brock bowers came crashing down to earth and the year before that it was sam laporta like all of those guys were like thousand yard rookie season tight ends that total the next kelsey the next gronk and it's like i've seen four of them in the last four years now so i can't it can't be blinded by and i have bought colson loveland cars because again i'm i'm foolish and biased too but i know i understand that i'm paying probably the highest price for these cars that they'll ever be of course i mean we all have our limits i paid paid up for the gold and gold vinyl of tyler warren but you know someone sent me his super fracture that was up for sale somewhere and it was it was listed at twelve k which i'm not paying and then i know his finites been listed for twenty k forever and it's like i'm not paying that so i don't know it's like of course i'd love to have those one of ones but also like there's a part of me that just like wants a couple cards of his and i know i'm paying up for it but like if god forbid he has a bad season or gets hurt at least like it's i'm not out tens of thousands of dollars and it's like if my whatever i paid for those cards thirteen hundred dollars if that goes to like five hundred dollars it's like whatever you know what i mean it's like i'm not sell i'm i don't have plans to sell it so but yeah skilled players right now like active it's it's it's a tough if i i can't imagine being an individual that exclusively flips skilled players it would just be a it would be a tough game yes it's yeah alright final card shout out my man cardi c chris i saw him reference this and then i saw the sale and then i saw his username on it so congrats to him but he sold a twenty ten top scrum tom brady gold refractor psa eight he sold it via best offer for five thousand dollars which makes this psa eight the highest selling brady psa eight gold from twenty ten of all time obviously we've talked about twenty ten great set love these cards love this up close and personal shot of brady under center looks like yeah we might have john abrams coming out on the other side of it just the photography of this card is incredible but yeah man that's what like a i don't wanna say random year because i love this year of topps chrome but psa eight gold they're fifty copies you're it's costing you five k now so it's it's hard out there if you're buying brady cards right now yeah this yeah twenty ten one of my favorite sets of all time the photography is awesome the gold shine is incredible i was i just looked up his like twenty twelve because i was curious like what that is compared to other tops from golds out of fifty from the same era and his twenty twelve prism gold in a b g s eight five sold for fifty two hundred a couple weeks ago so pretty similar sales i'd personally rather have the ten like all day the twenty ten but interesting to see that the going rate for a brady gold refractor from this era is five k yeah that's that's essentially what this comes down to a the going rate is five it's five k to get in yeah it's crazy alright good stuff shout out card ladder collecting updates what are the current collecting projects that you're focusing your resources on any pickups this week shout out to i had several people send me the a bunch of cold scolds got listed on ebay i had all of them except for one which was the twenty twenty jack doyle smash ben on that completing the jack doyle run-in prism twenty eighteen twenty nineteen twenty twenty jack doyle went to my high school cathedral my father-in-law coached him and they won a state championship so there's some like sentimental factor that goes into jack buying jack doyle cards and yeah i was very very excited about that so shout out everyone who shot me a dm with those listings up i do appreciate it awesome nothing better than completing the run i only had one pickup i bought this actually a couple weeks ago but it finally showed up two thousand two finest refractor jerry rice in the raiders just these cards shine like crazy they are just the regular refractors go so hard i think this was fifty one dollars got it at auction i'm now five away from completing the refractor veteran set of two thousand two finest brady is still the the one that's looming large and like i was looking at prices the other day i was like goddamn it i missed my what do they call what's the going rate well so a psa nine i think just sold for four k okay let's see two thousand two finance refractor brady no thirty two hundred okay so thirty two hundred for nine a year ago that card was going for nine hundred bucks and i'm just a little mad that i didn't because i knew this i was doing this chase it's probably been two years now and i remember thinking like i've gotta get the brady at some point just bite the bullet and do it but i didn't wanna i think at that point i was probably trying to get a ten and a ten was like four k at that point a ten is probably over ten k now i don't know it's brady stuff is yeah is just not not cheap so i i don't care if i get a bent up copy i just gotta get one one day so five away that's such i feel like you've got that jerry rice for a steal in comparison to what brady's going for dude i got them i got my manning for seventy bucks let's go just the regular refractor like that it just wasn't making sense what like and that was i probably got that over a year ago when and probably why i was just like i can't pay a thousand for brady when i'm getting manning for seventy dollars and moss for fifty like yeah these will come down and then nope they've just tripled in price so one day alright card call out last week helmet off cards that was seriously one of my favorites so many good cards so creative i think i gotta get better at writing these down i said every week but someone who's shared the fifty four bur locker with the helmet off like episode number helmet off yes player we had featured bonanza bonus points awesome so what do we got this week anything jump out during the the recording that i'm i'm staring at the side of my screen i keep looking at this twenty ten brady i don't know if this is too obscure you you you help me kinda tell me if this is good or not but what about like line of scrimmage cards like cards at the line of scrimmage is is that viable yeah i mean in twenty ten i'm thinking of manning in that same set he's got one too yeah audible i have the cutler he's kinda scrambling i'm trying to think of just if i may it might be one kinda like helmet off that there's more that i'm not thinking about but yeah let's do it line of scrimmage line of scrimmage what about so specifically quarterbacks under center or what about like a anybody anybody at the line what about like a linebacker who's kinda like in attack mode like you know staring at the line of scrimmage ready to we engage with the line of scrimmage we can be as creative as we want if if there has to be some sort of signal that the line of scrimmage is like either they're on the line or the line of scrimmage is in sight yes presnap presnap yeah and and the line of scrimmage is active like the yes the line of scrimmage force field is on like if the player touches it it's a penalty like you know once the ball snap the line of scrimmage disappears but yes we want cards where the line of scrimmage snap presnap presnap cards that's it go yeah oh alright this is good we'll see what we'll see what comes out of this so pre stamp cards line of scrimmage bonus points the closer the line of scrimmage is to the card like on that brady like you can probably see the line of scrimmage like they would be cutting through that card yes so there would be more points awarded the closer we are to the line of scrimmage yes yeah i think i'm excited to see this i have no idea what to expect so this will i think this will be a fun one yes alright episode fifty five in the books thank you everybody for listening post those line of scrimmage cards to the instagram story tag the
