The Football Card Podcast #45: Post-Draft Hype, Chrome Curiosity, and the Cards We Regret Selling

hello and welcome to the football card podcast this is it you made it it's friday and you are listening to the fastest growing podcast in the entire world that's centered on football cards and most importantly football cards i'm your host john aka pat nicholson and with me as always is brett mister stacking slabs himself brett how are you doing i'm well got the post draft come down reading the articles we're in that period where every guy our team drafted looks like the next hall of famer so that's fun we gotta live in that for a bit before training camp starts and we learn who just shouldn't be there and who gets cut so enjoying this time i will say a fun side effect of getting guys drafted getting them on your team is hearing from the community because we've got college football fans everywhere but i don't think that that like necessarily always gets brought up because not a ton of people collect college cards or share that they collect college cards i don't wanna diminish the college collecting community it's actually one of my favorites just passionate collectors but we have people who have watched these players a lot longer than we've watched you know the highlight reels giving commentary in real time and that was a fun part of this draft is getting dms from individuals about guys that were drafted to my team and getting the feedback unprompted so that was like my favorite part about the draft this year and one example which is a very passionate football card collector who wears it on his sleeve brooks lsu tiger collector he dmed me right after the colds drafted aj halsey the safety out of lsu and it was one of those like i didn't know much about him i i've heard of him saw the highlight package i was like this guy looks pretty legit like a big safety who just likes to lay the wood got good hands likes to pick the ball off and i i didn't even like connect the dots of like sourcing brooks he just shared his feedback on prompton and he he goes something to the effect of like aj halsey who might have the best nickname of all time his nickname is mister give me that and he his draft party was in a home of rick ross so like how do you not like this guy mister give me that getting drafted hanging out with his people at rick ross' crib and his feedback to me was great pick he loves to hurt people and i'm like this is this is the type of narrative i need going into training camp is a safety where fans of him from the collegiate years are just telling me that he likes to hurt people so i don't need the raz score i don't need the forty times i don't need any of that i just need feedback from people who watch the game who tell me that he likes to hurt people and i'm like sign me up yep yeah in that beautiful moment post draft where every pick looks great sounds awesome and then when you really think about it there's gonna be like fifteen guys from the entire draft that end up being good yes it's such a crapshoot i was just looking back at like oh the twenty twenty nfl draft people love the twenty twenty draft you know it's stacked and so far there are i think twenty five players that have made a pro bowl from that draft wow that's a lot right and and that's on the higher end when i clicked over to twenty twenty one at a first glance it was maybe around twenty but that doesn't matter that's for future us to worry about right now both our teams nailed the draft got all the right players and yeah it's gonna be a great off season because yeah now just we needed that injection of content into the into the team stream like the i i honestly didn't read that much predraft content going into it i just in the like i don't wanna get my hopes up for a player and then get them chattered or like i just trust whatever the team's gonna do and then afterwards once the players are solidified then it's like okay who are these guys that i can dive in so but yeah we both got new safeties and we've football card pod loves safeties so we do we love we love them and now we'll have to figure out once their tops chrome cards come out how we start saving for them if that's the direction we wanna go but yeah man it's fun a lot of guys drafted this will drive the card market as we start talking about them and the releases think from a football fan perspective the next milestone is the schedule announcement and the nfl was prompting it during the promotion or during the commercials and it was they were just giving it sometime in may it was like this vague may which i think i've like dug in it's like twelfth through the fourteenth we might get a schedule need the schedule especially i need to get a a reason to get out of the house i will be going to the home games as a season ticket holder but i have already like connected with my colts buddies and it was like alright we all have kids we've talked about it before kids we went to one or two away games every year like let's do it this year so i need the schedule so i can figure out what away game i can get to so that's what i'm looking forward to next that's awesome also mister gimme that what a nickname it's the best we'll get into it when we're in forty fives there's another good nickname that i found and it i was just thinking like we need more good nicknames in football again i just don't feel like they're there and so to know that mister give me that is about to be lurking in the secondary for the colts i love that i i was thinking about like being at at lucas oil and just looking over and just seeing a bunch of colts jerseys like a crew of colts jerseys all with his numbers and they're customized and on the back it just says give me that i'm like let me just meet his family let me let me meet the give me thats like i wanna go hang out with them that is awesome alright episode forty five we're back like mj in the four five but none of it's possible without our wonderful sponsors at cardladder shout out cardladder everyone go check out cardladder confidential that dropped on the stacking slabs network earlier this week always enjoy my conversations with chris and josh really fun one lot of good mindset mentality on collecting in this market so shout out card ladder yeah that's a really good episode hosge cooking per usual there for a little bit at the end about just collecting philosophy i could listen to that kind of stuff all day alright episode forty five we're still in these the dog days of the forties we have three hall of famers this week we've got kenny easley emlen tunnel and then bill willis so those are the three hall of famers and just off names alone i'm like these guys are older guys but doing a little digging first i wanna shout out kenny easley who isn't as like he's not he's not a vintage guy he's a junk wax era guy played for the seahawks in the eighties was a safety first overall pick in eighty one or first round fourth overall pick in eighty one only played for the seahawks for seven years only a seven year nfl career but was a defensive player of the year in eighty four was a four time first team all pro five pro bowler pro bowls led the nfl in interceptions in eighty four just kinda did it all just did seven years made it into the hall of fame with those numbers and his nickname was the enforcer which sick just a cool cool nickname for a safety especially we had the profit a few weeks ago and now we've got the enforcer so shout out kenny easley that's that's an incredible career in such a short time and this has me wanting to sidebar on this topic you know players i think about are like luke kinkley like i think about him and his impact in a short amount of time that would be a fun exercise to go through and maybe map it to cards and see what we learn but that's incredible like the credentials you just laid out did he get hurt what was the reason for leaving do you know let's see looks like he missed the season with an ankle injury there was the nfl strike they were talking about trade you know i think he just kinda and honestly i bet he came into the league older seven years he probably you know probably around thirty probably retired is what it's looking like so i'm not finding one definitive reason like but if anyone else knows any seahawks fans out there reach out the the the enforcer is such a great nickname it triggered back to my old school growing up watching wrestling on tbs arn anderson who was a member of the four horsemen whose nickname was also the enforcer so i think that would be a cool experiment as well you know the mashups between nfl player and wrestler with similar nicknames i think that would that might be a fun exercise sometime down the road as well oh yeah we'll chalk that up for middle of the summer when we're really strapped for content yes looks like kenny easley got diagnosed with a rare kidney diagnosis mhmm that they found during because they were gonna trade him to the phoenix cardinals during the physical they found this thing and he just retired a few months later but allegedly there's lawsuits involved i think he sued some the team and doctors saying that they're giving him the wrong stuff for an ankle injury and that led to this kidney diagnosis so i don't know how it ended with the seahawks and if they if he's up there you know in the ring of honor or not but he made it into the hall in twenty seventeen so shout out kenny easley i think if you asked the audience blindly about which team has the best group of defenders of all time you would you know you would hear probably like ravens and steelers and some of these teams but i the seahawks man they just have a lineage of terror on the defensive side of the ball so defending super bowl champions big reason for that was the defense and obviously legion of boom but seahawks man they know they they know how to to breed some defenders in the pacific northwest yeah something something about the air up there and the yeah the fog maybe the mist the rain it just all leads to you know the not a grip on the quarterback not a grip on the football that a quarterback wants and errant passes yeah shout out to seahawks that would be a good away game to go to it it would unfortunately they they played that game last year with philip rivers they they they should've beat them but they they came up short you said something there and it reminded me of a nineties movie you said air up there did you ever see air up there with kevin bacon the basketball film no oh god just it's it they it's so nostalgic to me seen this cover yeah this is like i remember this like in video stores i just remember the clip because he's going scouting and he goes to africa and he finds this guy who's like in this tribe who can just ball out i just remember like the clip during the trailer of the movie the guy was like i think he he was like showing him his moves and he was messing with him because he flew all the way out there and he was like putting up shots and they were like going over the hoop and stuff and bacon was like totally disappointed the guy just the lead actor just looks at kevin bacon he's just like who are you expecting shaquille o'neal i don't know why it's like i'm having flashback i'm in nostalgia mode right now i just got done i'm i'm three or four episodes finished of the hulk hogan documentary which is on netflix which is unbelievable so i'm i'm in full nostalgia mode which is a good place to be before the football card podcast yeah i'm gonna have to watch this trailer watching back old trailers from like eighties and nineties too is always so funny they're just made so different than they are today like they clearly didn't have like the budget for a trailer the way they do now like now it's like a trailer release is such a big deal but back then i feel like it was almost an afterthought of oh well let's just find some clips and you know slap it together get a nice little vo voice over over this and ship it out i i you know what i miss on the trailer front is the getting of the vhs tape in like your stocking as a kid and you pop in the tape and you get the trailers of like some films ahead of the movie that you bought mhmm and i just think now as someone who's been in marketing and just thinking about the placement of that like can you imagine if you were the creators of like fern gully and you somehow landed this placement in front of the original home alone it's like your your movie although it's never going to be as big as home alone it's it's going to live forever because it's tied to home alone just because you had trailer placement before the movie and how many people bought home alone on vhs that would be a fun job like trying to like gamble i don't know how it all worked but like trying to gamble and try to bet on films that you think would blow up yeah man my mind is racing right now i feel like i wanna be like ten years old right now i just that's what i want yeah i like to get of just like the bidding war to get that trailer placement on home alone you know it's just like what what deals were going on i've been watching a lot of mad men lately i never watched mad men before and it's on hbo now so i'm starting and i'd always wanted to watch it and just yeah jockeying for deals with the brands to represent them like as the ad agency but yeah just going to home alone going to yeah and it got me thinking of yeah when we talked last week about having to earn your music and you you know you had to seek it out you couldn't just get it streaming instantly everything you ever wanted when you had to rewind vhss mhmm it's the that battle in itself or you're excited to watch something and you pop it in and yeah it doesn't take that long but you just have to sit there and rewind and yeah it's like when my daughter's like i wanna watch this movie right now like or doesn't wanna watch commercials you have to this is this is the world we live in these not everything's skippable did you have a a a stand alone vhs rewinder or did you just do it on the vhs on the vhs we had to took a little while you had to do it before you you you returned your films or they they ding you with the with the late fee or the no rewind fee which was like i think like fifty cents but the late fees is where blockbuster really made their money yeah be kind rewind like what that was just a whole campaign that's how important rewinding vhss was in the u in the united states and the world at that time like how much time was lost of our lives rewinding of vhs i might have mentioned this on a previous football part card podcast but i am the i'm married into a a football family my father-in-law was my head football coach in high school and i just remember the process when i was playing ball which will lead into kinda my pick actually for the number forty five but i just remember you would play a team like you get done with your game and then you play a team you know the next friday and right after the like that saturday the job of the coach was to meet halfway with the other coach they meet at like a mcdonald's halfway in between where you know the two schools are and you'd exchange tape and it was literally exchange vhs tapes of your team so the other team could pro could prep and that's the process and how it went and just like now you've got like huddl app you can just literally open your phone and watch everything but man like you wanna talk about working for the the shows talk about working for the wins man getting out on the road getting the film bringing it back like it just like those were those times man i i kinda miss those times sometimes yeah those were the days and that's why we're here collecting football cards yes should i jump into my forty five yeah let's hear it okay so i was this was an although like i will say this was a i struggled on this one because forty five not a lot of relevant forty five nfl players you mentioned the hall of famers i wore number forty five in high school so that was my number i've this is i'm feeling very nostalgic talking about that picking yourself i'm not picking myself i just wanted to i we're we're talking nostalgia we're reliving old memories i'm reliving my high school days at cathedral high school wearing number forty five as a linebacker so but i will say i did not pick an nfl player i went a little bit unconventional here i went daniel eugene rudy rudiger as a notre dame fan obviously spawned off into being the legend and icon which is rudy you wanna talk about vhs tapes man i watched that thing until my eyes bled growing up being a notre dame fan and then they just have this like mainstream movie about this notre dame story of football it was man i dude i just couldn't get enough it was like i'm talking about like best sports films of all time that's my number one just because of everything that goes into it sean astin magical performance it just the shots at in south bend and notre dame stadium it's i wanna watch it right now but so yeah i'm picking rudy go irish if you wanna get into a rabbit hole you can figure out you know nothing really happened much to rudy outside of that that one big play but he is he he's on the circuit he is making money off of off of the the rudy brand and i looked up i was like is is there any rudy rudiger cards out there and there are and there's like sean astin cards but i didn't wanna feature that i wanted to feature this two thousand eleven tops allen and ginter rudy rudiger autograph red ink this is out of ten it's a psa this thing sold for three hundred and fifty bucks if this thing was like listed right now on ebay for a thousand dollars i'm might just smash ben it is it is so cool and i think allen and ginter is such a cool product and i think that well i know there's a community around it and so many passionate collectors and i think it's one of those products we haven't really talked about enough here but there's an avenue and angle for everybody you just need to find it and to me i'm like oh wow like what what would notre dame cards and allen and ginter look like and i just look at this with the red ink which is a popular feature of these allen and ginter cards and i'm like this is a damn cool card that is awesome i actually commissioned rudy for a cameo a few years ago we in a fantasy football league that i run the punishment for the loser this isn't really that much of a punishment compared to some that you see out there but we would just get a cameo of someone that that person is like a fan of talking shit about them so the last place person my buddy matt is a huge notre dame fan so we got rudy and we we send like a i send like a script it's like just tell them that they're a disgrace to notre dame fandom everywhere and well normally they end up like spinning it into like something positive but yeah rudy i have a video somewhere of rudy talking shit about my friend matt so shout out rudy for you know cutting cameos get that check what what did it cost to book ruby rudy for a a cameo it's probably around fifty bucks i think that's that's what that's what we aim for yeah oh wow that's that's amazing shout out rudy what what's your pick into my mind the first one that popped into my mind was tj duckett i was a big tj duckett fan as a kid when he was at michigan state i don't think he wore forty five at michigan state but then was drafted by the falcons in the first round of the o two draft two thousand two draft the year after that they had just selected michael vick in two thousand one so i was like this is gonna be this awesome duo of vick and duckett duckett never really had the had a great nfl career his best season would have been in two thousand three with the falcons he ran for seven hundred and seventy nine yards and eleven touchdowns but tj duckett there's just something about there's something about i mean and this comes through my collecting and probably what we've talked about but just early like two thousand two two thousand three just that's i feel like when i came on like fully online as a sports fan so just like every player during that era i that i remember you know watching on sportscenter i'm very very nostalgic for so right when i saw forty five like i don't know how our brains work that way where it's like the first thing that like lit up was like oh tj duckett it's like what why am i thinking about tj duckett right now i was trying to tj duckett is such a great pull i haven't thought about him in forever and so i went to cardladder and the highest set there there's no images of these cards because the highest sold tj duckett happened in september of two thousand and five which was his two thousand two sp authentic gold tj duckett rookie logo patch out of twenty five and it sold for ninety four dollars and eighty eight cents that is the highest selling tj duckett card ninety four bucks man what a what a time to be alive wow in two thousand five i bet that card letter value's up there yeah well not considering ducket's look at that actually check this out card letter value one thousand nine hundred and fifty five dollars got it chris and josh we need you to adjust the tj duckett index i'm i wanna see what's on ebay for this is like when i thought about collecting nate davis the ball state quarterback who got drafted and i all of a sudden found like his exquisite rpas and stuff for like ten dollars on ebay and it was awesome someone start the tj duckett pc please what it's so funny when you this like randomly happens and i can't think of the last player that it happened with for me but you just like pop open a saved search then all of a sudden you see like ten of the best cards of that random player listed all at once and it's all from the same seller that they just like woke up one day and they're just like alright time to move all my tj duckett cards yeah that he's got he's in o two finest but he's part of two thousand two finest did this thing where tons and tons of the rookies are like auto and jersey only and they're in their college jersey which just like clinton portis i like i love clinton portis but he's in his miami uniform and it's like an auto card that's just not as cool he doesn't just have a pure gold or pure extractor so i always wanted one for portis and realizing duckett's in that o two class as well i would love in the falcons uni too that the old black uniform such a his two thousand two top scrub black refractor i'm looking at that right now it's a sick card is the o two finest ducat available i bet there's one out there you need that card you just you just called i mean this is doc documentation of your participation in the football card pod and it's your set it's an ugly card though if you search two thousand two finest tj ducket it's him in the michigan state it's this autograph the big old certified autograph issue badge it's just it's not for me it's not for me but i mean if the price is right this is nine dollars might as well buy it why not one other forty five emlen tunnel i was like that's a sick name he's probably got some vintage cards and emlen tunnel was another secondary player was actually the first african american to play for the new york giants made it into the hall of fame was also part of the coast guard in the forties because and he yeah he served obviously in this era but he played fourteen years in the nfl as a safety and he's second all time in nfl interceptions he ended his career with seventy nine interceptions so shout out emlen tunnel nine time pro bowler six time first team all pro and two time champion nfl all all decade fifties team the fiftieth anniversary all time team the hundredth anniversary all time team and moon tunnel kind of a a badass and i had never heard of him so that's what we do here on the football card pod do you what a life what a career thank you for your service emlen tunnel do you give him more or less credit that he got all those picks in an era where you know a a one touchdown three interception performance by the quarterback was considered a pretty decent game yeah i think it's it's it's always tough to compare eras but like yeah if you look at like the nfl interception leaders of all time who's the who's like the top five of on that list alright so paul krauss is number one he was a let's see db for washington and then minnesota for much of his career and yeah his rookie year nineteen sixty four he had twelve interceptions holy it's crazy can can you imagine if you this is what i'll say if if halsey gets twelve interceptions in his rookie year i'd be doing back flips down meridian in indianapolis if he gets four it'll be like that was a home run pick that's a miss twelve picks his rookie year first team all pro falls it up with six a modest six his second year but yeah and it is career with eighty one interceptions that's insane that's insane alright the rest of the top so paul krause eighty one emlen tunnel was seventy nine rod woodson in third was seventy one alright who is this player from nineteen fifty two night train lane night train lane night train lane yeah what a sick okay and night train lane in his rookie year of in nineteen fifty two in a twelve game season had fourteen interceptions and then three his next year and then ten his third year so good lord night train lane is one the sickest names i i have i've never heard that oh wow yeah that the one of the sickest nicknames of all time but yeah heck of a play i think we talked about night train on here i never talked about night train lane okay that's that's awesome and then rounding out the top five who else do we have ken riley and charles woodson are tied for fifth with sixty five apiece and honorable mention ed reed is right below at sixty four in seventh and ronnie lott sixty three darren sharper sixty three so yeah like some of these like paul kraus is eighty one i don't know if that'll ever get touched that's gonna be tough because like quarterbacks aren't throwing picks anymore everyone's too scared to swing it mhmm i i think i have an idea for card call out at the end now you you we're little how the sausage is made we are talking ahead of this what should we do and john said let's just let the episode play out i think i think i think that was a good call just love when procrastination works out alright shout out episode forty five shout out to forty fives everywhere should we get into some questions let's do it alright first up from chiefs rips is there a card that you ever sold that you always wanted back but no it's not possible yes there there was one that immediately came to my brain shout out chiefs rips i love meeting cool fans of other teams and just you know being like we're like the same but we collect our teams it's fun to connect with those individuals but this one was very apparent to me when i read this question in the first and this pisses me off talking about it right now but the card is representing his most unforgettable year of his career but it is memorable to me and that is the twenty twenty two matt ryan prism black finite one of one it is the only black finite i have ever sold and i'm so pissed off that i sold it and the reason why i sold it was and a collector was trying to collect the rainbow and kept asking me and kept asking me and caught me at a vulnerable moment now this moment would never have happened if it was right now because i had not really brought my focus and attention to my prism colts collection it was pre like i'm gonna build this thing out and so i had a weak moment and probably another card was available i needed some funds and so i ended up selling it and i justified it by saying well you know it's going to complete a rainbow well what happens when you do something like that there are months and years long time went by and then i saw the card listed i think it was on ebay entered the vortex for a absurd asking price and i it was like one of those moments where i just like threw my phone and just like went up and went to bed i was like damn it like why did i do that so that is a card based on the way the finite market has gone and matt ryan being a borderline hall of famer you know best elena falcon of all time there's no way i'm ever gonna be able to get that card back maybe i could but there's no way in hell i'm gonna pay the price for what it costs so that one just cuts like a knife through me because i really like matt ryan his year here sucked but that representation in black finite form and to know i had it and just fumbled it away because i was soft one day really just pisses me off you're on mute that's devastating yeah i didn't think you'd ever sold a finite i didn't know i'd see hear about hear the day about that didn't you have his like twenty thirteen finite too yeah yes i i did well i had a whole matt ryan collection i was referencing the the quote side of it but yeah yeah i that's again don't sell don't sell your finites basically the moral of the story because luckily that card is landed in like the ultimate matt ryan collection which is awesome and the david i believe is his name he has matt ryan he's i've watched him build this thing and it's been great he's like come back to me so many times and said like hey i've i've i've i think i sold i had like triples of the twenty two ryan gold prism i like sold him one he and i think he just likes like everything he likes all of his cards raw which is also admirable but i i saw that card land on his page and i was like i'm i'm at least i'm glad he he had that and that's a funny thing about collecting is when you watch a play or someone build out this collection in real time and like some of your all you see your your old cards end up in that collection but at the end of the day it's like i'm not a matt ryan collector like that's a matt ryan collector so again again i wish i never would have sold that twenty thirteen matt ryan black finite but the moral of the story is like don't sell your finite you're gonna regret it so that's at least that's what the case is for me yeah i i think i'm pretty good at convincing myself i no longer want a card after it's gone there's just kinda that firm mental like if it if i'm already thinking about selling it we've talked about how that's so easy to then just be like alright you're already sold and once it's gone it's gone like i'm not i'm not sitting there yearning for past cards ever really but this made me go back and think and i was like is there anything that you know kinda hurts or i'm thinking about and the twenty thirteen select gold lavion bell psa ten stands out i used to have that i sold that as part of the jay cutler finite consolidation and there's a few others from that consolidation that were just like some awesome early two thou some o five finest gold extractors o two finest extractor like i sold some some good stuff to get that cutler but like once they're gone they're gone like i'm not i don't want to get those cards back like that wouldn't ever be it's like i already did it so it's on to on to the next one it's like shout out mad men there's the like meme of them in the elevator where john ham's like i don't think about you at all when the other guy's like don't you anyways yeah you just gotta move on leave them in the past unless unless it's a finite you can't you can't leave a finite in the past you can't get over a finite sale he i think you can get over it or you can at least forget about it but when you see it relisted that's that's that's and your collection has evolved into a way where your collection it fits your collection way more now than it did when you got rid of it that's the painful part and that i've tried to because i've done this like i've been on both ends of it of like you do a deal for a card that you think is like ending up in its forever home and then it gets sold right after and it's like i've done that where i've heard the stories and i've parted with cards and i'm like alright i did the right thing and then they end up selling it a couple months later i've done it myself where it's like i've gotten a card that i thought is forever and then something else pops up so i just try and like i never go there during a deal of like this is the yes card my forever card like i'm i don't wanna ever promise that to someone because the next day something crazy might pop up where i'm like i have to sell everything and then i don't wanna look like an asshole that's you know singing sob stories to get cards and then turning around and selling it so it's more of just just focus on the individual card and not tying it necessarily into this greater thing as as part of your reasoning for a transaction i i couldn't agree more i also like one of my i say all of this to say like i regret selling that card and i have no animosity for that card being moved like it we cards are fluid stuff happens life new cards all the stuff like totally understand what i will say i have a i have a pet peeve that feels appropriate to call out mhmm and this is people will be like man that's like kind of you kinda sound like a dick saying this and that's okay but this is my pet peeve i can't stand it when individuals are saying going to a good home like uh-huh oh it's it's going to a good home like what does that mean going to do you know like do do you visit their home do you know the dynamics like this idea this fantasy that we can only send our cards to good homes it's like let's let's get real come on we we you know we know you're trying to just get cash to do whatever you wanna do like you don't need to position the good home of it all it's i i can't stand saying that i i i every time of like i think about saying that i always have to like stop myself and say don't say that say it let it fly on the football card pod no that's hilarious because that is true of like you don't know it's a good home it might look like a good home on the outside it's like on the news when you see like this amish puppy mill gets shut down and on the outside it's this immaculate barn and the landscaping's beautiful and it's like how could anything bad happen in there and then you walk in the doors and it's just kennels on top of kennels on top of kennels and just shitty conditions like they they they go and they once that card lands in the good home they just go up and they just like i just imagine like sid's bedroom from like toy story yeah and it's like they they're like cracking the card out of the slab and it's like oh my god like don't show me that so yeah good home i i could do without it yeah just chucking it against the wall as hard as i can as soon as they get it just oh it's a new card i hate it god alright next up from steelerscardfella now that you both have sort of found your collecting lanes do you still scroll instagram or elsewhere to see old and new products outside your universe that other people are collecting whether for research or just curiosity if so are you ever triggered enough to chase something that wasn't at all on your radar i'm a i'm a i'm a scroller i scroll i love instagram i love looking at people's cards and collections i try to engage and talk like provide some commentary when something really motivates me i love it when people add context for why they bought the card and what it means for their collection so that's my favorite part about instagram i i will say and i don't wanna say this from an absolute perspective because it could have happened or it might still happen down the road but i am to the point where i am so rigid with the type of football cards that i collect or want to collect and doing this show i am not a football card historian certainly like there are blind spots but i know an awful lot about sets eras you name it i get questions all the time about why i don't collect certain things and i'm just like i'm locked in i'm in my zone so i don't i think it's cool and when people are sharing their cards and it's different than mine i love that like diversity in the hobby is the best but i'm to the point where people aren't necessarily influencing influencing what i buy and nor do i like see a post and like oh let me set up a safe search like that happened when i first got back in the game but it just doesn't happen anymore what about you as far as do i scroll and look yes of course absolutely that's why i have a card instagram it's i love looking at cards i could look at cards all the time and honestly i was just thinking though i feel like my i need to do a purge on my instagram feed not like i it's gotten into a great my algorithm's gotten into a great groove of lots of like throwback clips and things like that which i love because i love love you know i connect that but i was just doing a scroll and it took me like ten posts to get to a card and so i'm like something's wrong here i wanna be able to open my instagram and see card card card card card right away so might have to tinker with that and then yeah i absolutely get influenced by things i see i feel like i always have so many like i'm calling them projects like collecting projects like collecting the bears is a project but within that i have like subprojects you know there's like this current team has become a big focus or jay cutler is a big focus like within that bears umbrella and so sometimes yeah i'll see something on instagram or ebay and i will get the urge to buy something immediately but i've gotten better at when that happens especially if it's a listing that's been there forever sleep on it and see if the urge is still there the next day and then if it is that means something but a lot of times that'll pass but yeah i mean i think all the time like i'll see cards on instagram and it's not necessarily i want that exact card but it gives me an idea of a card to look for for a player i collect or the team i collect or just something else so yeah i'm very very easily i feel like influenced by what i see next up from our good friend brooklyn berry bright why am i always tired and why does my body always hurt tell me about it it's just a question that is in my head all the time that just needed vocalized shout out ben the the this this happened when i when my kids are down and i get up on the couch when i'm like having my my time i like to call it call it like last night i was watching the hogan doc and i like pause it and i get up to like go to the bathroom for the first time after like laying for like forty minutes it's just like oh my god i remember like my dad like complaining about getting off the couch and being like hearing the cracking i'm like that's me right how did this happen like happened where i'm all of a sudden that guy so yeah being tired it's part of it lots of coffee lots of cards that's kinda my formula yeah when you catch yourself like unironically making noises when you're either sitting down onto the couch or standing up just like the ugh like the satisfaction of like getting into your comfort spot and then also yeah when you have to get up there's just noises that come out unintentionally and that's that's when you know i said you should drink lots of water exercise and get lots of sleep i don't do any of those things enough so my body hurts and i'm tired all the time too but may maybe that'll help i also think about there's a great episode of louis louis ck's old show where he has like back pain and he goes to the back doctor and he just the doctor explains how you know we're we're we're not meant to walk on two legs like we're meant to get off like our back's not designed to be standing all the time like it's just there's nothing you can do your back's gonna eventually start hurting and then hurt forever the i have a hypothetical old guy hypothetical for you and just feels like an appropriate time to throw this out there so you know you get older you have to pee more it's just a natural part of life you know which can interrupt you know long car trips this and that if the the the magic genie came out of the lamp and said well i'm not giving you three wishes but i'm giving you an opportunity here and here's your opportunity you can go to a ballgame you can go to drive a long drive and you will not have to pee but when you reach your destination you have to pee for as long as you held it so if you know you went for a a three hour car trip then you'd have to take a three a three hour piss to recover from that what would how would would you would you ever accept that would you would you find an opportunity to be like you know what i don't wanna have to pee but i will sit on the toilet and pee for you know whatever like what would you take that offer i i don't think there's a situation where the math would math like okay it's a three hour drive on the alternate like how many times do i have to stop like just it depends on your your body chemistry because it's three hour drive like maximum well first off i'm not stopping for the bathroom on a three hour drive i'm a very i can hold it especially on a road trip i feel like i can lock into the dead driver mode of like we're not stopping this car unless it's an emergency i also pride myself on being a great airplane row neighbor like if i'm in the window seat i'm not getting like you're not gonna know i'm there i'm not go getting up to go to the bathroom i'm probably just trying to go to sleep and not even engaging with the drink and the snack cart so you don't even have to pass me anything or i'm not reaching over you like i'm putting up a triple double from that window seat of just three hours sleeping zero bathroom breaks okay zero snack handings zero i'm not talking to you so yeah on a road trip it's not for you no i don't i don't need to stop i can i'm mentally strong enough i can will will myself past that the thought the thought of being on the window seat like as you were saying that as like it gives me anxiety i'm i'm am the most claustrophobic person in america and i need access so like i i will not fly on a plane if i have to sit anywhere but the aisle i need contra i need the control to be able to get up if i need to that i'm i will pay twenty five percent more for a ticket if i can be on the end of the aisle at a ballgame like that's i don't wanna walk over people i don't wanna have to interrupt i just want access i saw i am always willing to pay for access that's my that's my gimmick yeah that's fair my good friend david he took me to a pacers game a few weeks ago a month ago the lakers got to see lebron versus the pacers and he has one of those like ticket packages you know where it's like the not season tickets but he got the like ten game premier game package like your games type of thing and he's like these seats are up there he's like but it's it's awesome trust me and so we're going up we're climbing and we're getting up into the rafters and we're up kind of in one of the like where the stadium it it's like a bend to it or like a yep i know exactly what you're talking about you know there's like ten seats in a row then like eight seats in a row and it and it gets up and his two tickets are two seats by themselves next to on the quarter at the top like didn't have to get up for anyone we could we had all this space and freedom and it's like yeah we're up above the scoreboard but that it was who cares one of the best viewing experiences i've ever had of just not having to yeah scoot by people or have people scoot by me so highly recommend the the bird's nest up there of bankers life i love that my my cold season tickets are are on the aisle the only problem with that is billy beer guy just he just loves to stand in your way during critical plays i'm like billy get out of here but the aisle i i can run and go to the bathroom and get back during a timeout it's a wonderful thing that's that's great alright next up from a j m cards ninety four how are you approaching collecting the new tops chrome set given you can go back to old years of chrome and finest for a much lower price i said i am buying tops chrome cards twenty twenty five tops chrome cards because caleb williams is in twenty twenty five tops chrome caleb williams is not in old years of chrome and finest and collecting this current bears team is just a project that i'm most excited about right now and has my focus like i do love the early two thousands football stuff and i have a lot of that in my collection but i've also done that for years where like the stuff i want i'm waiting on just like a few cards to pop up and they're not popping up all the time whereas this current bears team there's new products coming out all the time so that's exciting for me to dig into so it's not just about older sets having a better entry point price wise because honestly i'm finding just things within twenty twenty five chrome of yeah i don't have to break the bank here i can find a cool caleb williams card for ten dollars for fifteen i can find like there's stuff in here that like i don't know yeah some random parallel let me try it out and you know buy some of my guys put it in a binder see how it feels so yeah i'm experimenting with i'm chrome curious i'm experimenting i'm experimenting with tops chrome yeah i am i am not experimenting i'm not collecting i do appreciate everyone sending me all of the cool cool chrome cards i i it's not for a lack of the cards looking good honestly it's really not for a lack of like the price i try to not let price deter me when i really want something it's almost like self restraint because being a football team collector it's a slippery slope even if i if i find the parallel that i want and like you sent me a couple which look great and were decently affordable like it was affordable and i specifically i was it was an auction i was like man this is a cool card i wanna bid on this alright i should bid on this i like held myself back i was like don't do it because it's a slippery slope i will just not stop in that one card will then all of a sudden turn into a hundred cards and i just don't want that right now so that's my reasoning yeah you have a clear focus on because i was thinking about just like these projects and of collecting and this comparison of like a project is a band or music that we're following let's say that and like right now you're on tour with the dead like you are really a great analogy great analogy immersed and like i'm kinda experimenting with i'm going to the record store i'm seeing what new bands are out i'm going to the local that's right local venue the two hundred cap venue and checking out the bands and like there there's no right or wrong there it's like touring with the dead that's a once in a lifetime experience you gotta do it when you can but yeah there's there's many ways to go about the hobby i'm i am chasing the deep cuts that i haven't yeah haven't seen or heard like that is why i'm out there of course i love the community of course i love the the regular songs but i am i am chasing the deep cuts i want to attend the show and and hear something or see something that i have yet to check off on my list and that is what that is what keeps me there so i love the analogy you get that twenty five minute version at red rocks that's right you you finally got it yeah you're chasing the deep dive that's awesome next up from barack james overproduction of parallels a set can't really justify having more than five or so without it being ridiculous o five o six finest was about as wild as you should get yeah i understand the sentiment of this question but i i don't necessarily agree because i yeah it is charming when we see that but that is the yesteryear i think you have to understand the undeniable forces that are taking over this industry whether we like it or not and braking has just become the distribution engine for the manufacturers and in order to have good distribution you need to make sure that your your cases have hits in them and it the at the volume that breakers are breaking you need to have more parallel so that's kinda i think the reason why i mean breaker's delight is the naming convention that tops chrome is using for a specific configuration of their boxes so that tells you everything you need to know yeah it's it's nice when there's only a few i'm not gonna lie it's fun to go back and collect those sets and it makes it feel more rare but i also think like no matter what like no matter how many parallels there are it's just like you it's on us as the collector to navigate it and figure out like here are the ones that matter to me and this is what i'm gonna collect and all the other stuff shouldn't matter unless you are like a rainbow collector and it pisses you off that you have to instead of collecting you know forty cards you have to collect eighty cards so that's that's just that's kinda my mentality when i saw this question yeah that honestly i think i'm becoming pro parallel during my chrome curiosities of just give the people a hundred and fifty parallels and let them decide what they want like if you like low numbered cards there's stuff for you if you want to just feel included and you can't afford the low numbered stuff there's probably something out of you know four ninety nine or something for you and it's like does like your low numbered card get any less rare or scarce or valuable or desirable because there's a bunch of others in different parallels it's like i don't think they affect each other that much and then i was thinking you know i feel like people will point out like first year prism was like an ideal structure where it's just your silvers your greens your goals out of ten the black finite one of one like you know keeping it simple but to your point of the breaking of it all can you imagine the breaker the breaker ratings how low they would be if like that was the configuration of these boxes like were you getting one silver a box as like a hit i watched i i watched like a case of twenty fourteen totally certified being broken like like i don't know two years ago because i was like oh man i can't wait to see how many like mirror platinums get pulled like i wonder if there's any greens like literally like there was like one red out of fifty in the entire case i was like this was the worst thing i've ever spent my time watching so it'll be terrible and it's just times have changed it's i don't and i'm not suggesting the listener is thinking this way at all but i'm just this is another aside on this topic it's like i i don't have any tolerance for the complainers out there who just complain about what's happening new and what's it's like you either roll with the punches or you go do something else because this is the way this is moving and it's just there's so many people like stuck in two thousand and they're just it's like this is this is it's like thirty years ago like come on and so that just drives me a little crazy and i just feel like we as an in as a as a hobby and community of collectors just need to be a little more adaptable and you if something is being introduced like you don't have to collect it you don't like you don't have to complain about it it just seems like there's always something to complain about and i i'm don't i'm not preaching hobby positivity and we should all have a voice and share but it just it gets tired when you see the same accounts every time you open up instagram bitching about something it's like if this isn't making you happy like go do something else or at least get muted by me great great run i mean and i have again like back to the collecting projects it's like there's different projects for different itches that i have that need scratch like the nostalgic football itch i'm fully scratching that with just like two thousand two finest like early stuff like i that isn't like the thing that i'm chasing with every lane of collecting that i'm doing like then i have an itch of like caleb williams' current bears and so these new sets make sense for me in in that lane but like i'm not expecting every set and every lane to have the same parameters and feelings like yes i do love the simplicity of a two thousand two finest parallel structure but that doesn't mean that i want every set to have that same structure because then that's boring i like i like the variance between all the different things but yeah i also wrote i would love to see yeah those those early box breaks where there's like one hit per box it's basically the junk wax era in today's breaking standards like you rip a box of breakers delight and then you rip a box of twenty twelve prism it would just be so wildly different this as as a someone who has participated in some wwe chrome breaker's delight breaks i feel good about it even when i don't hit anything because in a breaker's delight pack it is it just it looks cool like you're get you're seeing the cards it it's not just a bunch of base cards that someone has to siphon through it's just like here are the hits yeah here you go and it's like as a guy who appreciates efficiency i'm like i'm i am pro breakers delight that is my favorite that is my favorite configuration i just i love it and i understand it but i understand some people don't and there's disagreements but i don't know it's it's a new world but yeah let's let's make it breaking as efficient as possible this i guess is what i'm saying so breaker's delay is literally just only hits in a pack it's so you get the you're getting i can't remember the you're getting a certain amount of autos you're getting the geometric parallels you're getting yeah autos geometric parallels and like your your base cards are like unnumbered geometric parallels mhmm and you're only getting like i don't know three but you're getting the color you're getting autos you're getting inserts and then you know redemptions if that pops up but it's like just a it's you know in a case you know you're you're getting six packs in a case and they're you know i don't know how many cards in a pack they're thicker packs but it's just one rip it's like okay one rip let me go through these let me break another case like it's fun to watch an entire case being destroyed and it's only six packs i i like that so wow we gotta break we gotta rip something the storyline that'll never end uh-huh alright last one from drake's pc last week there was a discussion around not buying a card at a certain price because you didn't feel it was worth it at the time based on comps etcetera but years later you bought it at a higher price i think he's talking about when i mentioned the twenty twelve prism gold cutler that i offered mhmm a couple hundred bucks on years later came around and paid more we all want to buy cards for our collection for as little as possible but when we plan to hold these cards for a long time why do we often let comps and other external factors weigh so heavily in the price we are willing to pay for cards i i didn't see this question in advance but this is a great question i my response to this is we don't know if we're planning to hold the cards long term because of what inevitably is going to come at us or not like there's so much fluidity with collecting like yeah it's a dream to buy a card and be like this is gonna stay in my collection forever like i think about my favorite cards in my collection and when i bought them like of course like my mindset is like oh i i wanna keep these cards forever but i don't know and i'm not gonna lie to myself saying that they are because i don't know what's gonna come out next i don't know what's gonna emerge so i yeah i i could one day wake up and be like you know what i'm tired of this colts prism collection like i'm just gonna like spend the next like three months just auctioning it off because i'm bored of it or because some other card popped up that's like fifty thousand dollars that i have to need so that i need so i just think that's my mindset ultimately it's like i never kid myself in saying that any card i buy is going to be with me for the long term but i find the fun part about it is is like you start piecing them together and you start connecting them for me and it's like that's what gets sticky so that's that's usually my mindset when it comes to like thinking about a topic like this yeah well said and yeah i i mean he's saying why do we often let comps or other external factors weigh so heavily in the price we are willing to pay i mean we use comps to find value and when you're buying very expensive sports cards you wanna pay a fair price like yes i mean there's part of us that's like comp shouldn't matter if you want the card buy the card but when you're spending a lot of money on a card you also want it to be like you wanna be smart about it like this there you have a responsibility to or or you don't and you just buy them buy whatever and as far as the cutler like why i didn't wanna pay two hundred dollars and then ended up paying like five hundred dollars the market had just gone up in those two years like the perception of prism gold had changed like for me and for the market like that first offer for two hundred dollars was like more than i wanted to pay really because at the time they weren't i just didn't know or like value the card that much and then eventually that set started meaning more to me and it made sense for me to pay a higher price like i was fine paying it at that point so i don't know everything changes it's all it's all fluid but i do think i don't think there's anything wrong with like looking at comps and letting other prices influence you like that to me is just part of the research when you're spending money on these cards and it's worth doing a little bit of due diligence to you know figure out if you're paying what is right or not and or at least knowing what the right price is or what a good price is and then like yeah if you were like i absolutely need it and are willing to go over it great but nothing wrong with you know being informed and educated about the market when you're making purchases good question drake great question alright nfl check-in draft what do we think about the draft any do we wanna break this down at all i was thinking maybe like what what are some hobby impacts of the draft or what are i'll start just what are your takeaways from the draft brett oh there's a lot of takeaways that i have but i'll just focus on one specifically and it being my favorite player drafted which is jeremiah love who is now on the arizona cardinals and thinking about it from the hobby perspective of a running back getting drafted that early and we haven't seen a running back get drafted this early since saquon barkley so i think start the comparisons now what what has happened with saquon barkley's cards what might happen with jeremiah love's cards and i it's a different time though because barkley was a rookie in twenty eighteen and this is pre nil pre bowman uchrome and so i was just digging jeremiah love has had his super fractures first bowman sell for ten thousand seven hundred and fifty dollars in ten days ago which i didn't realize that this has happened ten days ago this card is awesome i would prefer the nonsticker auto version if this was on cardauto man that would be incredible but just thinking about that i'm thinking about the fact that like these guys already have an established market so that's interesting i also through this thought process looked at saquon barclays rookie finite so it's sold in december of twenty four for sixteen thousand eight hundred and sixteen dollars which is twenty eighteen sick looking card and then it's sold a less than a year later for forty two thousand five hundred and fifty dollars so i mean that like this twenty twenty four sale of it being sixteen thousand like if that this card got put on ebay right now for seventeen thousand dollars i believe it would get smacked the bin smash would happen immediately right oh yeah just so interesting how quickly things have changed but yeah i'm i'm thinking about that i'm also thinking about the fact that when i got back into cards like no one was talking about running backs and it just it's fun to see diversity and people interest in collecting and i think it always starts in the front end like who's on the box jeremiah love is gonna be on the box of tops products next year undeniably because he is an exciting perhaps potentially generational type player so that's that's what i'm really interested in with this running back who's got all the hype and momentum and i've said he is the this is over the ridiculous season manti teo had at notre dame and what he did his you know senior year this is above that jeremiah love is the best player i've ever seen play at notre dame so i'm excited to see how that translates into the nfl but he will be a player that a lot of people are gonna try to tie their money to because he's very exciting so running backs man that's that's what's on my mind oh yeah saquon is so interesting to me where like his career numbers he just hasn't had like the output to maybe warrant these prices in in my mind but he had that two thousand yard season in the backwards hurdle and that was like so powerful and so memorable that that has driven like created so many saquon collectors and like kind of touching on our whole like you know moments driving collectability but it's like outside of that season saquon has his highest rushing year was thirteen hundred yards and he's been in the league for eight full seasons so it's like you go from that two thousand yard season his next highest season is he has two seasons at thirteen hundred yards and then he has three seasons where he didn't even break a thousand yards i mean injuries are part of that yeah it's just i don't know it's interesting to see that he was kind of this and he changed teams like it there are all these factors that you would think would be a knock on a player's collectability like going from the giants to the eagles he's in his late twenties but he has this magnificent season that has like like his prices are higher than derrick henry's prices which is crazy to me like derrick henry has the bigger career numbers and like all time output but saquon's just the the highest is was saquon's highest high higher than derrick henry's i don't know yes it's yes i think it was because i don't think the eagles win the super bowl without saquon barkley the super bowl run yeah is yeah and i think the other interesting thing with barkley and his cards is eagles fans are passionate eagles fans also hate the giants so you have to like segment his catalog and i remember right after the super bowl it was like right when twenty four prism was coming out too and it's like his eagles' rare and scarce parallels were going insane and so yeah he's an interesting guy but obviously like henry's had the better career but i think the the the higher highs in my opinion definitely saquon barkley in that super bowl run because yes this i not that i forgot about the super bowl but i just wasn't considering i was just looking at his regular season stats yes the the super bowl run but yeah just like watch and another great call of the pool of eagles saquon cards is so small right now and the eagles diehards don't want him in a giants uniform like not that i i think they probably wouldn't want him in any other team uniform but it's like you know if you're a ravens fan and you love derrick henry you can probably stomach a titans henry card different than if it was like a bengals card or you know yep just one of those rival teams yeah shout out shout out saquon my other just thoughts from the draft and shout out jeremiah love i'm i love a running back so i'm excited to watch what he can do in arizona the ty simpson of it all is interesting to me the the successor the just when that happens like he'll have buzz for years now ty simpson until he gets his start and i i mean i remember people you know buying jordan love cards while he's sitting behind rogers and just like this he's just delaying the potential or delaying delaying the the scratching of the scratch off ticket so i'm excited to see what happens there and like how long until we see ty simpson on the field is he good is he bad i don't know but it's we're just gonna keep wondering for a while now so good job rams and ty simpson delane whatever is to come did you did you when you saw that pick what and i know you said you didn't dig in too much to like these players' predraft but when you understood the situation obviously with defending or reigning mvp under center like what was what was your reaction in real time to them picking a quarterback i was kinda excited i was like oh this makes cent like i as a bears fan i watched the packers do it twice and it was successful both times so to me it's a method that can work and i mean going into last year people were talking about stafford retiring last year like before the season and then yes he comes and has this mvp season but i don't know if i see it both ways if i'm the rams this is a move that i think you know makes sense for the future if ty simpson is good i don't know like i'm again i i'm not watching tape of ty simpson or equipped to really give my thoughts on if he's gonna pan out or not but or at the same time you made it to the nfc championship maybe a player who's playing on the field right away next season would have been better at thirteen like for your current team but looks like they're kind of thinking long term but i don't know but yeah i do think i was excited to see that pick because i think it's exciting for the hobby when another young quarterback kind of is you know put out there as someone to collect or some just something to watch i bet we'll see some crazy tyson's in sales in the in the coming year we definitely will i like the i like his prospects better having some time to cook behind stafford with mcveigh yeah getting to mold him it's just that's what i was like my initial reaction granted i'm not a rams fan was like i like this for that reason yeah it seems like a a smart move i understand if you're a rams fan and wanting them to like win now though how that can be frustrating where it's like thirteenth overall pick there are some good players available that would probably be starters somewhere on that field right away that's a pretty complete roster though it's like is a rookie really gonna start on the ram i that was also my counter it's like they that's a pretty if i'm talking best rosters in the nfl the rams are in the conversation for sure for sure and who knows it's all again like it's all they're all scratch off tickets right now so they are alright what is next should we talk some sales yeah let's burn through some sales here alright we've got the hobby heartthrob or former hobby heartthrob playoff loser justin herbert his this is a good measuring stick you've got a quarterback who's never done anything but put up a bunch of stats super factor going out raw form and it's sold in auction so really good measuring stick for the the market right now twelve thousand one hundred dollars is super factor from the new chrome product what's your reaction to that price it's a lot of money but i guess it i don't know to me it's kinda like oh justin herbert's has come down to earth price wise like i i feel like this card like would have been more expensive a couple years ago yep like i mean i bet he has some i mean his rookie finite sold for millions like you know to come to be a super fractor selling for twelve thousand i know it's a lot of money but i bet if i search like justin herbert one of one oh you don't even wanna do that you know compared to what was happening and i know a lot of these are rookie cards but even yeah i'm just seeing some insane sales in here so i don't know i mean it's a lot of money for a guy that like you said hasn't done anything yet but i still like i'm not as down on justin herbert as other people might be i mean he's only twenty seven years old he has some crazy regular season numbers if he just goes on one or two playoff runs and wins a super bowl all of a sudden narrative changes and he has like the stats behind him so i don't know it's a risky purchase not one i would make but i don't like i don't hate it i'd have to look at like what other super factors have sold for from tops chrome like our you know other guy like the caleb williams black finite one of one from twenty twenty five so his second year just sold for thirty five thousand dollars mhmm so like i don't know caleb you know caleb williams is going into year three herbert's i don't know just seeing that caleb sell for thirty five not a rookie to see herbert's super factor sell for twelve kinda doesn't seem crazy caleb sale seems more crazy to me caleb has had less time in his career to like if he's at the moment next year year three right is a massive year right oh caleb has won a playoff game that's exact there there you go you said if he does it's like dude he's hasn't even looked like he could stand a chance with his performances in these playoff games so yeah it's a it's a whole hell of a lot of money yeah we'll move over to the next one which is another positional comp this card looks sick garrett wilson's superfractor from twenty five chrome selling for three thousand four hundred and thirty seven dollars via auction and i wanted to bring this card up because i thought it'd be good to compare this superfractor which is his first year superfractor with his black finite sale his rookie finite sale so his rookie finite sold for four thousand two hundred and fifty dollars in june of twenty four and the super fracture is three thousand one hundred or four hundred and thirty seven dollars so they're pretty close in price i would definitely if i was a wilson fan would much rather have the rookie black finite than the super fracture although the market has changed a lot since twenty four but just some good comparative data points yeah that's interesting that finite is awesome but this i love this top chrome look i mean it looks great yep picture is awesome the the color i like it i saw that the o'reilly leonard rookie super sold for five k i'm looking at other jj mccarthy no that's a gold wave yeah the rile the riley leonard stuff's really pissing me off right now because he's had gold vinyl and golds go up in auction and it's just like we're talking thousands of dollars on these and i just i have to put my hands up and be like nope can't do it even though i freaking love the guy i just i can't bring myself to doing it yeah there will be another opportunity there will be be yeah patience alright we move over to the seventy one tops terry bradshaw in a psa eight point five fixed price bin smash april twenty third for nine thousand two hundred dollars i just brought this up did you see the clip of yep you okay so you saw so terry bradshaw was asked like how much is that his highest selling card of all time and it was this card but obviously not this card it was his psa ten which so the six hundred and seventy two thousand dollars is the highest and his reaction if you haven't seen the video is pretty funny yeah shout out terry bradshaw that card is just so iconic too i just feel like from beckett's growing up and just magazines just always seeing that card back when like before it's crazy to think before brady like before manny like growing up the goat conversation was like montana and then like bradshaw was up there you know like of the mount rushmore like bradshaw was up in those conversations because of the super bowls won a lot man it's won a lot so like just funny to see now i don't think bradshaw would crack the like top five greatest quarterback of all time may maybe even not even crack the top ten i don't know but yeah and just back in the day when the marino touchdown record was like untouchable like four hundred and twenty i just remember growing up being like i wonder if anyone will ever break that and now it's just crushed bradshaw's been in the spotlight for a long time shout out terry bradshaw we move over to the nineteen eighty four tops usfl we're going usfl steve young rookie card from the la express in a psa ten with a pop thirty this thing sold for eighteen thousand six hundred dollars at the weekly this sun sunday arms crossed usfl not nfl what a sale yeah something yeah that's i mean i think kind of we've talked about i feel like you said something about the opportunity for just like high grade vintage football guys and and this is more junk wax era from eighty four than vintage but just like high grade like ronnie lott i think is who we were talking about this specifically but yeah i mean other people are are seeing that where it's like hey what's steve young all time great what's his best card this one okay i can get that for eighteen thousand while justin herbert's one point something million or his just random seventh year card is twelve thousand like this does look like a good purchase when you stack it up next to what these modern qbs are selling for this is the star jordan versus the flare jordan conversation but in steve young form so we've got the eighty four u tops usfl selling for eighteen thousand six hundred now we've got the eighty six tops steve young in the buccaneers gear selling for fifteen thousand this is in their bgs nine five population twelve selling for a little over three k less than its psa ten usfl counterpart so how you doing steve young first cards wow i love that year of tops i want the walter payton is iconic and i need that in a high grade one day yeah these are these are nasty they it reminds me of going to my closet as a kid and just going into a nike box and just like rummaging around i would be pulling out these cards for sure football guys last card how about a ninety seven metal universe drew bledsoe pmg green psa seven selling for eighty one hundred dollars on april twenty six and the interesting thing about this card there not this this card not specific card various grades there's been nine sales of the pmg green bledsoe since twenty twenty three i think the surest way for a card not to go up in value rare and scarce is to see that that seems like a for a pmg green of a guy nine sales in three years it seems like too many how what do you think about that that's way too many that's just yeah i'd wanna see some of the serial numbers like is it the same one selling over and over is it different copies is it psa seven psa seven number ten yeah i mean that's like you buy it and then you're like immediately relisting it to sell nine times in the past yeah that's i don't know that's good card though like that's a good good pick good pose yeah that's a cool card here's a question for you as we get off of the cards and the topic drew bledsoe i struggle with placing bledsoe in the tiers and rankings if you take a current quarterback in the nfl where where and it doesn't need to be like exact exact exact play style or anything but just like ranking like who would you compare like in in like quarterback tiers with drew bledso in the modern game like from a style of play or like a good like good this like yeah yeah like yeah like guy you like if you're talking like all the quarterbacks like and you're saying i would want this guy to start i want this guy like where would he end up and like around which current nfl quarterback would kinda be in that zone so the first name that jumped in my mind was sam darnold and not like darnold that's that's the perfect pick man that i think you just nailed it darnold though won the super bowl that's where i was like i don't know if the comp's exactly there but as far as like just the player i think great kinda similar guys i don't know i think you yeah we can be in there i was struggling as i was thinking about it but say i think sam darnold is the correct answer that's really good nice well done also shout out bledsoe people forget the so the two thousand one super bowl he gets bledsoe gets hurt brady comes in and they win the super bowl right but in the playoffs i believe it's the afc championship game where brady didn't play for the whole first half was out injured and like bledsoe kept the patriots in that game and then they or finished the game i don't remember but he played like a whole half of football and the patriots won the playoff game and it's like i don't know no one talks about brady getting carried to that first ring as much as so many things had to go right for brady to win that first championship when you go back to the raiders game and the tuck rule and all that but the hands on the head that's all we remember the brave with the hands on the head yeah oh the drive yeah it's but bledsoe got him there like bledsoe was was pivotal in that playoff run and and i think was it dion branch or someone else had like a crazy special teams game like there was just fluky things that had to happen for the patriots to win that super bowl but they did and they won it so shout out them i guess alright good sales collecting updates are there any current collecting projects that you're focusing your resources on brett on the on the dry spell no nothing for me how about you yeah some chrome purchases some other random things here and there i still like i'm testing out chrome so i don't like i don't wanna be like i'm buying these and i think this is awesome and then like a month later i'm over it and selling it so i'm just kinda keeping just experiment chrome curious i'm always experimenting with things i yeah it's i'm having fun and just trying to find more caleb williams cards i'm fully just getting locked into i just want caleb williams cards so which i don't know if that's a good place to be or not i know the risk that comes with it but at the same time i'm like i only have five bear seasons that have been memorable in my lifetime and last season i'm still like alright that was enough that's worth it to me to collect some of these guys forever so that's that's where i'm at as long as you're having fun man that's that's all we're doing here is having fun on the football card pod episode forty five card callout we asked to see draft bust last week got some great busts in there i i feel like i should have put this disclaimer on the callout because i feel like bust is such a harsh term i i should've clarified more of like someone who just maybe didn't pan out quite to the expectations you had it wasn't necessarily a bust but even if they you know put in several productive years but they just weren't like i was thinking of like a tayvon austin tayvon austin wasn't a bust per se but i don't think he reached the ceiling that people thought he could reach and that that would have been one but you said that one popped into your mind during this episode so what should we have people send us this week i i wanna see cards because they don't make them they they hardly make them and if you have them in your collection i wanna see them because i think they rule i wanna see defensive backs who are playmakers like those guys getting interceptions taking it to the house like those are the guys i wanna see i wanna see those cards like you got them like post them let's see them so like safeties too right safeties are cornerbacks if we wanna get really safeties cornerback guys who just are in there making plays picking balls off pick six taking it to the house like guys you like yeah yes i like that defense back safety is the secondary the hard hitters the interceptors the enforcers let's see post on your
