importantly football cards i'm your host john aka pat nicholson and with me as always is mister stacking slabs himself brett how are doing i'm well i don't know about you i know it's early where you're at but i am caffeine maxing i have been caffeine maxing all morning making sure i have all of the caffeine coursing through my veins i got a workout in this morning and did a little pre workout and then just got showered up and parlayed that into you know a pot of coffee so i'm i'm ready to go man i am ready you've got tops crumb football taking over the football card universe and i'm sure we'll talk about that along with other topics how are you doing man i am well yes i'm out in california for work this week and so yeah six am over here but no days off at the football card pod this is forty three weeks straight we don't we don't take breaks over here and then i feel like last time i was out here for work the coffee machine in the room didn't work and i was not calfed for our recording but i'm happy to report the calf is coursing we got the the little keurig thing in here so we're rocking you know i think maybe long term goals is we need to get somebody who likes to you know select the beans and roast the beans and maybe package the beans to jump on board here at the football card podcast obviously we've got card ladder who's a wonderful sponsor the the one the only but if you own a coffee company out there you have brick and mortar locations you sell online i drink coffee all day every day so come on board like you're gonna get the realest promotion of all time and we like to talk about football cards here so coffee football what more can you ask for i thought you were going towards a football card coffee collab like the football card pot of coffee football card pot one thing we don't lack maybe we do lack sleep but one thing we don't lack here on the football card podcast is creativity so we can we'll spin it up for you you got some creatives here yep so today of recording is wednesday this goes live friday but wednesday big day tax day tops tops chrome day tax man's coming uncle sam's lurking hope everyone got everything done or at least got your extensions filed and tops chrome tops chrome is starting already to hit the airwaves to hit the feeds and so by the time this is out by friday i bet so much of this stuff will have been ripped i bet it's going for the next forty eight hours seventy two hours at any given moment someone is ripping a box of tops chrome football across the planet yes i i will say this so i feel as a collector these last couple weeks are very very intense for me from a mainstream perspective wwe just released their tops chrome product last week so i have been jumping into breaks perhaps participating in a few breaks trying to see the product and then on the other side of this is now tops chrome football it is a very very aggressive and intense time for me and my interest which i do appreciate maybe just to kick off the tops chrome of it all one thing i've been talking a lot about in my content is how impressed i am by fanatics in their ability to promote in market they obviously are an events company an entertainment company a trading card company apparel company they do all these things but their promotion is second to none and i saw something right before we hit record which i thought was just very very cool and we all know like tom brady is the guy on the front line like waving the flag he's well connected obviously he's invested in the hobby with cardvault by tom brady but i saw him and chris put out a video if you go into a cardvault location and you pull a tom brady autograph you're going to get a facetime from from tom brady so that to be it seems very very cool i mean the the goat like the goat literally is gonna facetime you so what a great way to drive people into the store to rip packs of top scrub you not only get a chance to pull a brady auto auto but you get a chance to have a conversation with the goat about it that's awesome i didn't see that but well a facetime with the goat you know that could be valuable it's kind of like the five hundred thousand dollars or dinner with jay z like which you know how much how much game can you glean from a two minute facetime with tom brady like do you have to get rid of the tom brady auto is that part of your i don't think so that would be great if they took it just ripped it up redeemed it that's the redemption you know what if if you pull the super factor auto brady should get you on his pj and and just fly you out for for a day tossing the football mhmm you know seeing all the stuff you know how cool would it be if you just like did a tour day tour day time and you got it like you like to ann arbor and then you like spent a majority of the time in new england and then you ended on the beach in like tampa that's the experience that maybe next year they'll get to that sort of experience yeah on that exact beach where he retired like that shot i'll i'll put out this we'll run this promotion if you pull jay cutler top scrum superfractor any year and give it to me i'll facetime you i will that's the offer oh gosh that is i love the way that we can create offers on the fly we don't need to get this approved by anyone so that that offer i would say is probably standing forever mhmm i wanted to bring this up i honestly i i i don't know if you've seen cards polls what you've seen so far but we're literally recording this on the official announced days but last night in the old school facebook group which is so infamous for the deal or no deals i saw a post and i sent it to you last night and i'm glad we remember i remembered to bring it up but the post is twenty twenty five tops chrome jackson dart auto out of two seventy five with a fire sign and then it says nuke deal or no deal and i was like yes like this is this is this this one example can tell me everything i need to know you have obviously a rookie chase with dart you've got an autograph with pea which people love on card mind you but you you've got this two seventy five which is the yellow parallel and two seventy five in this era might as well be one million but so so i'm like just salivating getting ready to look at the comment section and a guy put in three months this will be worth eighty bucks and then the the person who is selling the card replied not sure why you're bringing so much hate to someone's someone's post then somebody offered a thousand dollars it was followed up with two thousand dollars and i was just like holy cow and i didn't check back in this morning but i just thought man like people are offering two k in facebook groups for a two an autograph out of two seventy five of a rookie chase like you wanna talk about frothy we are going to be in full froth chrome mode over here two seventy five that looks gold the card looks golden i'm not exactly sure which it's like lime green gold you know like i feel like there's different i saw on ebay like a saved search for like i i like the twenty twenty five optic golds and one popped up like a bijan and i threw an offer on it because it was like a hundred and twenty obo i threw an offer for like eighty bucks and then i was like looking closer and i realized it's not gold it's out of fifteen and there's like another parallel like electric yellow something out of fifteen that then i was like oh god please don't accept my offer i don't want this card at all and they straight up declined the offer they didn't even throw a counter so i was like alright i don't know what you're doing over there but yeah this jackson dart looks like a gold refractor but it'd not two seventy five is interesting and yeah two thousand dollars for that card i mean what's a box gonna you know like what does that do for wax prices if you know that it's not only big chase cards that are gonna get you big dollars but not saying this is a common card by any means but out of two seventy five like those are what's the market cap on that you know like that it's gonna be frothy it will be frothy this is what i'll say and i look at the yellow and it it does look very gold i'll tell you this the twenty twenty six tops chrome yellow refractor appearance wise and gold batch wise looks a lot better than some of the previous years yeah of tops chrome so if you're a gold fan and don't care about the number and you don't wanna pay for a gold you can get a yellow which looks just about the same if not better than some of the previous years yeah and seeing this makes me think i who was i talking oh i was talking to brian greene yes he i know what you're gonna say i know where is rookie not about the rookie it was about he said something about being surprised how like prism prism never figured out the on card auto of a chrome card even though like optic was able to like panini was able to but prism never did and how the on card autos within tops chrome do look great and just it is interesting to think about how prism even though that is the main flagship everything like if if prism had also like the on card auto that optic had i mean that we already love prism as is but i feel like that would have made that product even more strong stronger legendary whatever no no doubt ryan green is a man of he's been investigating because he sent me a message about sorry ryan i know you're listening but we're just airing out all of our private conversations but i thought this was our private yeah i thought this was a a keen observation he made mention that the rc badge on the football side carries the nfl logo shield on the football product but on the basketball product it does not and so what is his question was why is this and i go i have i have no idea but that is a such a astute observation yeah that that has roger written all over it like protect the shield the shield is first and foremost we love the shield whereas i feel like adam silver is a little more lenient with the nba brands nfl's gotta get the marketing in there they they have to have the logo on it it's like the rob lowe hat like just logo everywhere one hundred percent but yeah i i will say this upfront let's let's do this because we want for all the money that you spend on this product in the breaks in ripping it yourself or buying singles whatever you're doing just spending a ton of money we want you to not only spend your money but we want you to promote the football card podcast while you're doing it so mhmm if you hit anything let us know put it on your instagram story tag at the football card pod we will repost them we will repost them all we are here to be an extension of this mega promo on tops chrome because honestly like i just i knew i wasn't going to participate right out of the gates so i haven't seen a lot of this stuff but i i'm now of the mindset i wanna start seeing these images and i'm like looking at this jackson dart right now and it's a great shot man he's in the pocket making a throw like i love the photo on it it's very very cool yeah and i i like this design it has grown on me with the like team color border line and then the name on the side and like honestly i mean i know i'm a o two finest simp but the like giants lettering or like the team outline lettering is very similar to o two finest where they have the position across the bottom in the same kind of style so and the lines yeah there's it's a it's a cool design i mean to it's a nice breakup from prism what prism did really well were like the borders like you had a new kind of framing design every year and i mean if this has that but it also has some just cool unique elements so okay tops chrome we see you one one more thing on the chrome front because this has been a question that's been just i've been wrestling with obviously the super fractures of the rookie quarterbacks will likely command a obviously command a premium how much we don't know yet at at the time of recording but my question to you is does a jackson dart superfractor sell for more than a post playing days tom brady superfractor out of this like how do you think that's going to unfold like the same card yes not both from tops chrome the tom brady let's just say nonauto just yeah base super factor of dart versus tom brady post playing days i think the brady goes for more one hundred percent isn't that crazy yeah again i know basketball basketball's better than football basketball but the lebron variation super fracture at the most recent tops chrome just went for over three hundred and i know it's playing days still but i don't know people love brady brady will i think pull hundreds of thousands of dollars for for that car i mean the dart will too it's that'll be good we need them we need those live at the same time i want more auction battles i want more put them on golden yeah put them up the are those are those are those are the the most golden cards of all time and they should be going head to head on golden now and we can just get our popcorn out yeah very much like why am i blanking on his name the boxing promoter king don king don king i mean golden already has that personality when he's promoting his items but has he ever promoted a head to head matchup like sunday night golden auction showdown brady superfractor versus dart that's we we need some residuals if they ever do that just give us a little a cut of that idea yeah half a percentage yeah alright episode forty three forty three straight weeks of the football card pod thank you all for listening for sticking around with the fastest growing football card podcast in the entire world there are well forty three not possible without our wonderful sponsors card ladder the only ones the best shout out card ladder yep two hall of famers have ever worn forty three cliff harris and troy palomalo so the forties are are light on hall of famers but troy packs a punch cliff harris packs a punch two time super bowl champion four time first team all pro safety for the cowboys back in the seventies i've got a couple more to shout out but i know you wanted to talk troy so what you got i did wanna talk troy i feel like this is me making amends with players that absolutely crushed my team for so many years i constantly go back to the steelers well on these numbers i think i've every steelers guy i've called out but troy palamalu was just such a fantastic player he always played his best against the colts all time defensive guy he got the hair he got the winning everything two time super bowl champ defensive player of the year in twenty ten four time first team all pro two time second team all pro all steelers everything but he was like a predator on the field like his instincts for the position were second to none i mean he could be on one side of the field see one signal from the offense and literally run all over the other side of the field and either force a fumble or make an interception i went back and i was looking at some troy film and there was in the two thousand i sick it was i think it was after can't remember which game it was playoff game against the colts steelers manning threw an interception to troy and troy like rolled with it and then when he got up the ball came out and it was like one of the first like under review big things and they ended up saying he didn't catch the ball but it was almost like the because he didn't complete the motion so i don't know man he was just all over the place and it was just like plays like that even though it wasn't interception defied defy him for me i was going back and looking at all the other thing i'm doing a lot of on here is covering usc guys which i don't love but there's a lot of good usc football players out there unfortunately but the highest selling troy palomalo car of all time so it's a pop one sold for eighty one hundred dollars and it's his twenty twelve prism gold prism psa ten just a wonderful football card you got the gold color match i mean the attack he is not quite in attack mode but you can see he is like evolving into attack mode you've got the hair flowing out the back psa ten there's a pop one as well this is the type of football card whoever bought it for eighty one hundred dollars actually i think i remember seeing the post on it's a steelers collector who bought this card everyone probably was like i can't believe you spent that much money on a troy card but this is the type of card especially if it ends in a pop one that that price point ten twenty years from now is going to it's crazy to say now but i think it'll be a a bargain this card has everything going on so shout out troy palomalo shout out head and shoulders what a what a promotion there good partnership really good football player yeah that twenty twelve prism gold awesome card one of my favorite troy contributions to the nfl and i guess media pop culture the commercial him and ladanian tomlinson where it shows them like growing up as kids like playing football going through all the running around their backyards running around on high school fields at usc at tcu and then hitting on the field it's like yeah and it's playing the what's that track the modelo song yeah yes great commercial great great advertising but yeah i i think we have something here with forty three you mentioned colts killers darren sprolls mhmm forty three oh that i was looking i was looking into and i remember he had killed the colts i forgot he killed the colts twice in the play remind me yeah sorry and just how productive darren sprolls was so in college at kansas state university he set twenty three school records he led the ncaa in rushing in two thousand and three kind of just one of those dominant college running backs at a smaller school who then you know gets drafted a little later i think he's a fourth round draft pick but in the chargers when he first joined the chargers how about this as a backfield ladanian tomlinson michael turner and then darren sprouls forgot about michael turner being there at the same time what a what a trio i mean turner then went to the falcons and had some awesome ears sproulz was pretty electric his entire career in two thousand seven had two touchdowns against the colts in a regular season game his first two touchdowns in his career a kick return and then a punt return and then later they faced the colts in the playoffs where he had a fifty six yard receiving touchdown and then the following season in the afc wild card against the colts ladanian tomlinson was injured and sprowls ran for two more touchdowns to win the game and sprowls has a couple nfl records he has the most all purpose yards in a season two thousand six hundred and ninety six so that includes return yards as a big scrimmage yard guy i don't i don't value the all purpose as much it it's just it's not the same as hard earned scrimmage yards you know like the kickoff return you're guaranteed at least fifteen twenty per return but that is not to take away from sprowl's productivity he then went to the saints and had i mean that's where he had his biggest year of all purpose yards but also had a strong career with the eagles made three pro bowls made some all pro teams just kind of a legendary back overall nineteen thousand six hundred and ninety six all purpose yards over a fourteen year career good for six all time so i was just i mean i remember darren sprowls remember him being productive making big plays i just i guess i didn't realize the how the longevity and the consistency to lead to the the kind of numbers that he's put up in his career we're now looking up the highest selling darren sproul's card of all time and it is of course his twenty twelve prism gold a raw copy in march of last year what'd that sell for seven hundred and sixty five dollars wow and before that this one yeah his two thousand nine topps chrome superfractor one of one for five hundred and fifty bucks back in december of twenty four that is a sick card yeah for five hundred i would've been that right now yeah darren sprowls was the epitome of colt's killer did it in the biggest games imaginable i'll say this and you going through his tenured career and stats and you gotta root for a guy an undersized guy that was able to do this and for like not be destroyed and hurt you gotta root for those sort of guys i mean he was the type of guy that i always was like god i hope at some point he can play for the colts because he just destroyed us so good to see not a kaboom listed i think back on the troy i think this let me go back and look because i think this will be comical i i laughed when i saw it palomala okay why am i blacking out on okay here we go palomala so it's hard to perf you do a really good job of performing yep this is the number two troy card is a downtown the pandora black pandora that's that's the card of choice i guess i i mean not to say i get it but feel like i get it where it's out of twenty five but so there again there's something about a card that is kind of frequent that i feel like you need to see it transact and for it to build momentum and it seems like twenty five copies is kind of a sweet spot like i'm curious what the black pandora does compared to the gold yeah it's a good question this this card is sold four times nine hundred jump on the black pandora in twenty three was at nine hundred and twenty five in august forty five hundred what a jump in september of twenty five forty nine december of twenty five fifty seven goodness they only go up downtown pop nine dude pop nine wow i mean that is a cool looking card i just point like i do that's cool but yeah darren sprowls shout out darren sprowls he had four straight seasons over twenty two hundred all purpose yards just consistent and yeah there's something about the little undersized just scrappy like maurice jones drew danny woodhead just you know maurice jones drew was more of a true running back versus another colts killer yeah the colts couldn't stop little guys what's going on they could here's a question for you on sprolls before we round this out when you close your eyes and you think of darren sprolls what team is he playing for i think chargers yep no doubt the that saints card kind of was in my mind and then he he won a super bowl with the saints oh don't remind me that cold killer oh my god the the he's might be george washington's spot i on the matt rushmore of colts killers yeah probably even more than like a tom brady oh you guys eventually got past brady did you ever beat sprawls did sprawls ever lose to the colts no wow one other forty three alright well yeah one other forty three so i was looking at the av leaders on forty threes and i saw a player name and on pro football reference it wasn't even in like quotes like a nickname but the name was spider lockhart and i was like that name is sick and i go that's a cornerback if i've ever seen one like please be a cornerback and sure enough safety defensive back for the new york giants carl spider lockhart got the nickname spider because he like covered the whole field he was everywhere on defense which i'm like yes this is perfect like his cards look sick played in the sixties and seventies two time pro bowler on the list of like top fifty giants of all time for the or the hundredth anniversary he was on the hundred greatest giants of all time at forty nine so he made the top fifty he died of at forty three of lymphoma and in honor of that the giants in their super bowl winning super bowl twenty one winning eighty six season wore a spider patch oh like just search real quick like nineteen eighty six giants spider patch it's sick i need to see this in a card if i was a giants fan having a card with like a game worn jersey with one of those patches would be awesome it's like it says spider forty three with like the outline of a giant spider like covering a football it's awesome how cool would that be in a card you're muted by the way i am muted that's an that's incredible what a patch yeah there needs to be a what is it topps dynasty get an eighty six super bowl jersey with the spider patch that would be fanatics product team or sourcing team we're giving you ideas giants fans will buy it come on so shout out spider lockhart and then i put on here larry brown there's larry brown that i'm like that let me just check him out because he won an mvp he's a running back for the redskins from sixty nine to seventy six and was the nfl mvp in seventy two was just kind of like a big bruising running back was rookie franco harris watched him play and said like that is the reason that like kinda inspired him and at the time of retirement only hall of famers jim brown and oj had reached five thousand rushing yards quicker than larry brown so shout out larry brown we love a running back we love a mvp running back yes maybe at some point we do a compilation of mvps by position and talk about their best cards future football card yeah write that down yeah i like that alright forty three let's get into some questions there these are i like we got some good questions this week they we got some some brain busters first question from loyal listener chargers pc sports cards a new collector decides to buy their first boxes of wax a couple boxes of tops chrome twenty twenty five nfl they get skunked then decide to buy a couple repacks and get skunked again then they give it one last go and join a break all in over two hundred fifty dollars spent i think it would be a lot more than two hundred fifty dollars that's what i i agree they obviously aren't happy and decide to leave the card collecting space what advice can you give the person to possibly keep them engaged and in the hobby i'll i'll say this first i am these type of questions or thoughts come up a lot in content and i will i will never be one to try to save somebody like either you're in it and you can figure it out yourself or you're not typically the kinda the natural selection process takes course and people light their money on fire and they weren't really collectors or meant to be collectors anyway so they just go and move drift over to some other popular money making trend or whatever so i i feel like there is this part about collecting that you really need to be a self starter you really need to appreciate discovery you need to do it yourself like no no one's here to hold anyone's hand but if i'm going to address that question head on i would look at them dead in the eyes and i would ask them one question and that question would be are you listening to the football card podcast and that would be it yep that's how you get them to stay that's how you keep them engaged and get them back in to me i'm just thinking like that's part of it ripping and getting burned buying a repack and getting burned are all part of it but to me the like can you get like at that stage of collecting i don't think you can get like skunked by a box of tops or by ripping a box in general because i feel like you're still so early and naive that even if you rip like a kirk cousins parallel out of two hundred it's like okay i'm rooting for kirk cousins this season like i'm rooting know whatever rookies you get all of a sudden you have their cards and you're kind of alright i hope these guys pan out i just think back like twenty twenty twenty twenty one when i was paying probably two hundred dollars for like a mega box of prism twenty twenty prism basketball in absurd like stupid but i just wanted to open something and then i was like so pumped to open something and yes i did get skunked in hindsight but at the time i remember i pulled an anthony edwards like base rookie and i was so pumped i'm like alright anthony edwards is my guy now like i pulled the lebron kobe tribute like base cards not even parallels but there was something about pulling it yourself having it and now i'm invested in this player more than i was before and so yeah i mean and then yes as the years passed then it's like oh yeah that was a terrible use of money and i got some of those cards graded i remember i still have it anthony edwards rookie base card s g c seven because i sent away like an s g c order because i wanted to like experience getting cards graded psa was shut down and i'm like i pulled this anthony edwards card this looks okay so off center it's a set you know had no idea what i was doing and i you have to take those lumps and those l's early on like if you wanna figure it out like the only that's to anyone just trying to figure it out you gotta rip wax grade some cards sell some cards like you gotta go like doing all the different stages of the hobby i think starts with actually opening a product it's like how you're best going to experience all the different facets of this so just keep going don't give up like cherish the hits root for those players send them the meme of the guy digging through the dirt the diamonds are right behind like just keep keep going next one keep gambling alright next question from drake's pc with tops chrome football releasing this week would each of you rank your top two and bottom two years of tops chrome football i i'll i'll start i put and i did this fast if i really think about it there might be i might have different opinions but favorites i had two thousand three love two thousand three with the little picture window showing their face and then their the like player picture in full uniform and then two thousand ten just two thousand ten design is all time and least favorites i put o five and twenty fifteen two thousand five i just don't like the tops fiftieth anniversary text at the top of the card like don't make it about yourself tops it's not about you it's about the player and twenty fifteen is just they they didn't they were on the way out it was just the exhaust it was the scraps feel like the intern put together the design like they they just said they found the design you know in a like rough draft folder somewhere and just had to ship it no no super fractor juice left no gold juice left it was the the bottom of the barrel which as i'm describing it now i'm like maybe i should love fifteen and that should be a maybe i so fifteen needs some love and someone needs to be a diehard collector of it but for now it's it's one of my least favorites what about you brett we share in the twenty ten of it all the twenty ten is an incredible design i've talked about the the team specific branding on those cards i think you get great photography the way it's laid out to me that is peak tops chrome i i like and maybe this is a little bit me because it's super bowl year but i love two thousand six and the simplicity of it they to me it always feels like two thousand six tops chrome is really hard to come by too so i don't know i never hear anyone talk about o six but i do like o three but o six would probably be number two this might be a little controversial here but if i'm talking about two i don't like i can't stand two thousand eight tops chrome football i was i was listening to max's podcast where he's ranking basketball chrome and two thousand eight was the number one voted tops chrome by him mostly you get the kobe lebron you get the chalk toss basketball card collectors love this set i can't stand it on the football side the the it is the worst batch of gold i've ever seen in my life yep it's no shine it's ugly the parallel structures are all jacked up you've got rookie super fractures of joe flacco out of i mean several i can't ten you've got ten i mean it's it's a mess and so you've got a product that is so revered on the basketball side and and i don't know if i'm on an island here but i think it sucks on the football side really bad it's a and it's such a great year like two thousand eight you've got a great rookie class and it just the product sucks sorry if i'm offending you but these are my quest or my opinions if you love o eight i don't know why you would because it's like they mailed it in it sucks and but what sucks even worse is twenty fifteen the worst football card product of all time cards suck i see people post like these cards in super fractures and they're like look at how like they're posting i'm like the card still sucks i don't care if it's a super fracture it's the shittiest design it it you nailed it by like intern it's like a template just taken and just propped down like i just imagine some like some like boss like in a corner office who was supposed to oversee it just like sitting there ripping cigarettes in his office just letting the intern allegedly cook because they wanted experience but that twenty fifteen is the drizzling shits cook get them yeah two another knock on two thousand eight like the there's like so many inserts like the leaders thing and like the i yeah the shine's not right on the golds i mean the reds and stuff like there's sunshine in there but yeah it's just never been my favorite and the reds out of twenty five i think the reds are well and then there's like the pro bowl version like i'm i just found a mani like red no the there's oh no this is a copper this looks red to me i own the gold manning pro bowl card and i got it and i was just like this was a horrible decision like once that came out i was like this was the worst decision i've ever made i had the forte and graded it and graded a psa ten and then i sold it but yeah just because the gold was not there but yes this so pro bowl version where colts is at the top instead of manning and but then there's like the leaders version and i i think there's one more other like parallel besides leaders that's like in the i don't know it's yeah not one of my favorites and on the basketball side it's awesome i feel like the photography is so revered because you got the kobe lebron and the lebron chalk toss like i i can even think of like the there's just some other notable ones but football like i was just like i'm like what does tom brady's even look like if and it's just it's just kinda normal versus i feel like if the tom brady was like horizontal and it was him like screaming like the let's fucking go you know like if that was like an iconic image and it was like a horizontal card kind of parallel to the kobe or lebron of it all like maybe it would that would elevate it a little it is interesting to think about how basketball like the chalk toss card is a not the singular reason but a main reason that that set is so iconic in basketball like that one card that one image choice top player man kind of yeah brought it up but football just doesn't doesn't have that have you seen the o eight super fractures on the football side it's like it's like when you have your phone and you're like in the bedroom and your wife's asleep and you need to like turn the screen all the way down to dim that's that's that's what they like in even like live in person it's like oh this is like can i can i turn it up a little bit like yeah that's a great yeah when i'm laying on my side looking at saved searches or watching an auction end it's like drop that brightness all the way down try to be considerate there was a i don't know if you had it on the list of sales to talk about that adrian peterson just sold at golden i don't know if you saw that the o eight adrian peterson superfractor what'd it go what'd it go for nineteen thousand five hundred and twenty holy cow let's see if i can pull this up big sale i mean this scan looks very good i think those i've never seen one in person i don't think but actually no i take that back shout out ryan green he has he has the forte which is sick like that looks good i'm a that's him i'm offend offending all of these people who own drake asked the manning too he asked the question sorry drake yeah i mean this looks better maybe my imprint maybe i overexaggerate or maybe there is a you can doctor these photos up quite a bit so there's some maybe some enhancements filtering computoring enhance enhance but it's nowhere near as bad as twenty fifteen we'll give like no twenty fifteen is refractor yeah twenty twenty fifteen refractor is like two percent battery low bat power mode brightness where it's not even there it's from an iphone ten like an old model it's not yeah twenty fifteen about a oh my goodness look at this i'm pulling up a nelson aguilar look at this car dude what is it what are we looking at look like is he catching the ball with his finger like what or is he doing a little like dance like a little ole ole like he's doing some type of move where's the football you gotta have the football in there scoot him over i don't need his left elbow i'd rather see the football than his elbow like that's just look at the team logo in this little circle you've got a circle rookie thing and then this like it's like their the eagles logo is in a shadow these are the ugliest football cards of all time wow it's maybe tops chrome in twenty fifteen was you know already using some ai generation and they were actually ahead of the curve but yeah it's like how how do you not look at that and make some make some adjustments let's look at one more how about k here yeah even the calvin you've got a player like calvin johnson and this i can't even get into this card well and this i think is yeah oh yeah that's a mini they have the minis too oh mini minis he reminded me of the minis the minis just just infiltrate the safe search and you get excited and then you realize it's a mini yeah that nothing pisses me off more than a mini a mini fifteen oh jess get it out of here don't even want it someone shows me the jay cutler i'll throw it away it's like salt in the wounds yeah alright we we can we can put a we can put a tie a bow in the fact and whatever you wanna take away from this thread on our opinions about greatest and worst i think we can unequivocally say twenty fifteen tops chrome football is the worst and if you want to make an argument that says anything different let's hear it because i would love to hear your reasoning on how you would position twenty fifteen to be any better than anything else that has been released by tops chrome yes do a little rant tag us we will reshare it we will give we will provide a platform for other opinions just an fyi if you ever disagree with anything here we wanna hear that case and we will we will vocalize it for you champion the listener of the football card pod alright next question from dobbs card collector have either of y'all been trapped by really wanting a card for your collection but it not fitting into a specific bucket in your pc if so what was the outcome and did the card did the card stick around i feel like we talked about this a lot and you have to be a special card that then is the start of a new journey where i'm buying other cards that whether it's the team or other players with the parallel to connect back to that but usually that takes some time and thoughtfulness and that card typically is a part of a consolidation effort but so yeah it's happened but it's it's it's rare usually i'm trying to buy cards that are a part of the the bigger picture and it's it's hard to to make it through the the rough roads if you're on an island by yourself yeah i said like most of the time that card that type of card becomes the victim of consolidation sometimes the seed to a strong pc but i don't think you have to feel like he says have you been trapped by really wanting a card i don't know if really wanting a card is necessarily a trap like if you really want the card and it's like calling to you buy the card take the chance buy it if you get it and it you love it and it's the start of something great if you get it and it's not sell it like i feel like people are still sometimes worried to like buy a card and then quickly sell it like people don't want the the flipper tag or any sort of like appearance of yeah just buying and selling quickly but i'm i'm pro that i'm pro just trying cards out buy the card if you like it it'll stick if you don't like it sell it move on to the next thing it's it's sports cards it's not that deep we're just buying little pieces of cardboard so do what you gotta do last question from tkd tickets you both are fervent collectors of your teams both bears and colts have psa set registries set registry sets for the all time teams as a way to become more familiar with vintage football cards little vintage football talk have either of you considered starting your team's registry set i know that both have some very pricey older cards so perhaps you can consider just the super bowl era cards i love this idea the problem for me is i don't associate with baltimore yeah so it's a it's a a a very very very very it's a it's a hard no for me and yeah that's i think that's been probably one of the barriers for me on the vintage side but also what i have alluded to in the past when i connect back to the game in a game that came before i was even alive typically comes from when i'm watching a good episode of a football life like that you wanna talk about influencers like that show man that like sticks its teeth in me so maybe what i need to do is go on vacation by myself and just get some snacks and just stream a football live on repeat for like a weekend and i think if i had the time to do that then i would jump over to vintage because there'd be all these stories and i would be exploring sets so that's probably what we would take i love the idea though it's a it's a really good one yeah was there has there ever been an urge for like a johnny unitus card or does it still just feel baltimore this is a great thread because people send me unitus cards all the time and i just i i need to do like a canned copy and paste but i no no like like lenny moore's on like in prism and stuff people send me those i'll be like no it says baltimore colts and so johnny united's phenomenal player obviously very influential but that history of the team i don't have any connection to it's it might as well just be a a a whole another team you know it's i just i just have no connection towards it you're for you're for the city you're not for the shoe it's not about the shoe it's the you're right it is not that that's very telling and we go through these experiments like what if your team up and left the city if that ever happened i would i you would find my entire probably my entire colts prism collection would be via on auction instantly it would be be the worst thing you could do for me wow wow yeah that that would be hey we've never i don't think we've ever touched on the bears coming to indy is that dude this that story i remember before i started working for myself and i was working for my last job and it was even when a an employee was there who like in my last year of the job she wasn't there because she moved on to another job but i wrote because she lives in like the arlington heights area and i this is like like so many years ago yeah we're talking about this thread has been going on and on and on is the longest storyline in in football right now it's where the bears are going to play i just can't it it never gets settled it just there's twists and turns along the way someone needs to create a movie on this no it's i'm sick of it i would not watch the movie kevin warren what are you doing you were brought in to figure this whole thing out and it's it's a joke but i people have tried to troll with like the indiana if the bears were in indiana and it doesn't bother me it'd be a little closer to me i could go to the games it's it's no different than the new jersey giants yeah i don't get the hand like the anti the ham and bears like that's to me that's so silly it's like just because they're like literally what is it like twenty minutes thirty minutes yeah on the other side state line like i i don't get it i don't get it it is like i hope it doesn't happen also just and i'm not a player so i don't actually know if this would bother me but a lot of the players live like north of downtown chicago and so if you move another thirty minutes south of downtown then all of a sudden it's like an hour and a half to two hour commute too much to the stadium i wouldn't wanna do that if i'm a player nope and like south of the city like are all the bears players gonna live in gary that that would actually be sick if gary was revitalized by becoming where all the bears live that would i would imagine crown point would be prime territory mhmm for yeah that would be interesting that the dynamic of that but i agree like i hadn't thought about that obviously most of those guys probably established with families live in the burbs expensive burbs there's plenty of them but yeah you the commute would be brutal it is amazing not amazing and i understand why it happened but the us kind of just infrastructure around the our great lakes they really botched that with a lot of factories and shipping and railways and ports like like i remember going to cleveland for the national and it's like you're on the lake but separated by just so much concrete and steel it's like wow you had all this shoreline and you're like this would be great this would be perfect for a railroad versus like bring it bring it a mile inlet or just a little bit keep the shoreline preserve the shoreline we really humans man just seeing it's like the i saw like a funny meme of it was like billionaires going out outside for the first time and they're like in a park and it's like servers i want servers here it's gonna look great here data centers shout out the industrial revolution alright great oh i guess i didn't really answer that i have dabbled in vintage bears it's something that i'm always like i'll get back to that because then i sell it off and i'm focused on the modern bear stuff because that is rarer and harder to get and once i feel more complete over there i will go back and pick up i have my list of like bear's vintage staples that i want because then i'll have the whole story but yeah it's just something that i always say i can get back and then i sell it alright moving along nfl check-in we don't really have much but you put down a prompt here that i think we're gonna have some fun with yeah you you mentioned we were talking about we we both are big music guys you talk about albums and connecting them to players or cards and i thought that was a cool thread so let's pull on them a little bit and i don't know why but when i was thinking about this like my mind immediately went to like hip hop and so the first example in comping player two album catalog was barry sanders and i've i'd selected barry sanders' pmg run ninety seven ninety eight ninety nine and wanted to pair barry sanders up with nas and a three album run he had with illmatic it was written in i am where you've got it's very short consolidated you've got a perfect peak you've got this timeless reputation between barry sanders within the football community and within the collecting community you bring up nas in the hip hop community nas is one of the most revered mcs of all time so that one came to my mind and i don't have specific cards for my next example but i was trying to like how do i be like make this very creative and very humorous in a way and what better way to do it than to compare steve young to tyler the creator and i think personally as a big fan of music it's really hard to compete with tyler the creator's three album run flower boy igor and call me if you get lost that is perfection but it didn't start with perfection if you remember tyler the creator in his odd future days there was very a lot of controversy when he came out with some solo stuff it wasn't great but when he hit those three album stride it was just like absolute perfection so the comparison with steve young is the early career struggles the reinvention the brand all of that and then the sustained excellence once you hit that pre peak period so i wanted to just shout out barry sanders and nas as my pairing alongside steve young and tyler the creator this is great i love this i could spend all day thinking about this back actually back in god this was like college this was tumblr era i started a blog that was called rap skitball that was just like who's a current nba player or legendary nba player who's their like rap counterpart and then like reasons for based on accolades you know like championships to grammys and all that so this is a thought exercise i've spent a lot of time on and i feel like it started when you look at aaron donald's pro football reference page mhmm it's just ten bangers and to me that was just yeezus i love yeezus it's one of my favorite it's one of my favorite albums aggressive abrasive dominant came out in twenty thirteen aaron donald's rookie year twenty fourteen there's just something about the front to back just no skips but then i was struggling with more of like like the exact album to a career is harder because it's like alright what do you do with a seventeen song album that like i i was trying to think of some and the only other one i could come up in that thread was i don't even think this is that accurate but warren moon and songs in the key of life by stevie wonder because of kind of the era like yes in the seventies and but also like songs in the key of life amazing album but just super influential than in hip hop like if you listen to that album now all you hear are samples every part of the wait what this is every notable rap song has like sampled songs in the key of life and i feel like warren moon also very influential maybe a little ahead of his time something there seventeen seasons i think there's like or no like twenty three seasons and this album had seventeen tracks so there something like that but so that was my my album one and then i had two player comps one is eminem and randy moss for like blew onto the scene as rookies like and i know eminem's underground career like he whatever but like slim shady lp comes out nineteen ninety nine moss's rookie year is ninety eight controversial in your face like randy moss was randy moss mooning the crowd joe buck going nuts about how disgusting it was it's just like eminem being like my bum is on your lips my just the you know i feel like they were on that same wavelength but then kinda have a fall off like after eminem show encore like the relapse era eminem is like oakland randy moss before eminem comes back with recovery where he wins a bunch of grammys and that's randy moss coming to the patriots and setting the records so i think that's one that i have and then my last one dan marino and nelly where nelly like dan marino comes out the gate throwing for like five thousand yards wins mvps like his first few years just unreal numbers and then kind of like never won the big one but just steady production an all time great quarterback and if you look at nelly's catalog i mean country grammar and coming out the gates nelly had so many hits through like his first few years of his career and then i mean just still a legend but i feel like he's nelly's not in the like nas jay z category but like a underappreciated catalog for nelly and the saint lunatics mhmm now all i can all i'm visualizing is these players and their highlights paired with like i wanna like see some dan marino highlights with ei in the background or like randy ma somebody's gotta do a randy ma stan mashup after this like wow with dido on the vocals by the way that the marshall mathers lp is all time like time and place yep i could listen to that until my ears bleed one of the most beautifully constructed lyrical records of all time and this you bring do you just bringing up eminem gives me goosebumps thinking about that album and i just wanna go listen to that album right now yes as a white kid growing up in the midwest in the nineties eminem was a very big part of my childhood i remember that that album yeah but i didn't i had the edited version for a long time like because i was in like fourth grade when that came out like ninety nine two i guess two thousand was marshall mathers lp but i remember the then like a few years later hearing kim for the first time i was gonna ask what did what does kim sound like it's like ed is it whole different it's a whole different song it's like called kids and it's like this kinda like south parky like he has like a kid character who's like interact it's it's all it's so creative eminem's so creative but hearing kim then for the first time i'm like oh my god this is insane but incredible yeah eminem tie and nelly was shout out steve berman by the way oh yeah what a skit and paul when i i worked at def jam and paul rosenberg was the president when i had meetings with paul i'd be like all i can think about is hey yo paul it's em like what are we doing here i just wanna see dan marino with the eye patch like nelly just the little band aid under the eye i'll i'm gonna find time and put dan marino nelly and eminem randy moss just slap a song under the highlights and throw it on the on the football card pod instagram another reason to follow the football card pod on instagram this has gotta be a quarterly quarterly bid on the pod we gotta do this more there's some more like yeah well maybe we'll take requests of you give us a player or you give us a artist and we will come to you with our comp we're like wedding djs but for podcasts yeah oh and then i i like the your sanders nas because then i'm like is emmett smith jay z of just like the has the more more accolade like i feel like see jay z when i think about jay z i kinda go to tom brady because yeah you know well just like that was his whole the public service announcement is like great let's fucking go song encore on yeah tom brady had an encore in tampa so yeah and just yeah jay i'm as i get older i appreciate jay z more and more like as a kid he like i was more eminem fan and but jay z just yeah one of the greatest ever okay good stuff i like that we'll we'll come back to that at some point let's get into some sales marketwatch what what's selling in the football card world yes there are cards that are being sold and we have a theme for today i just decided to pick all one of one so we've got a one of one fest let's go the first one i don't know if you and i were privately messaging about something similar but this card sold and i had to call it out which is the twenty seventeen origins mahomes rookie auto blue something something one of one say psa ten auto ten you'd think mahomes rookie auto psa ten selling for ten thousand ninety nine dollars this would sell for more well it probably doesn't sell for more because maybe my biggest pet peeve of all time is what origins puts out with we're going very very early we're doing a lot of photoshop and because we're so early we don't even know his number yet so we're just gonna throw a double zeros on there so you've got a patrick picture a photoshop picture of patrick mahomes with double zero and i mean i don't know what would be better but double zero on a football jersey is so egregious that i can't even look at it yeah that what's the nameplate on the back is just player it's probably what it's because i feel like there were products that clearly would have patches and the patches are part of like rookie on the back name panel and like there'd be part of a k and i'm like this player doesn't have a k in their last name what is this yeah i don't know what you're doing putting their number as double zero and then making it so legible if you're gonna put them as double zero at least have the hand on the ball where it's like covering up the front numbers and maybe if he's turned a little the shoulder you know it's not as noticeable but this i'm looking at it and his chest is just zero zero that's the first thing i see yeah not for me not for me either we move over to you just mentioned you like these cards this is the twenty five donner's optics saquon barkley gold vinyl one of one p s a nine hashtag don't collect running backs this card sold for six thousand five hundred dollars on ebay this card is sick these cards are really good looking i have not bought any of these but i know you're into them the more i see these cards i'm like this is a pretty good way to end the optic run really cool looking card i haven't there's none i've it's just i'm watching them i'm they're always popping up only one i think there's a caleb gold psa ten sitting on ebay that maybe one day but no this card is so sick they the pictures are cool the design's cool the shine's really good this card rules sixty five hundred is crazy because the other day a joe burrow raw popped up on ebay for like three thousand obo i saw that and when i was looking at the sales i saw that about getting it like it it was up there for a couple days and i just was like i don't because i would buy it just to sell it just to create sure sell it and i just didn't wanna come out of pocket a few grand but i was like that's that's a good this is a good deal am i the only one seeing this and it sold soon after that so i i think someone got a good deal because joe burrow's a big name quarterback and if he has a good year who knows but cool cards i i know this is a saquon barkley card but just a second on joe burrow and i know there's the entry thing with joe burrow which i've definitely dealt with as a fan but does anyone remember joe burrow's close to the nfl season not last year obviously but the year before i mean it was like i was watching him play like trying to get like will the bengals into the playoffs and i was watching that run and i was just like this is one of the more impressive quarterback runs that i can remember and so if you are a longtime listener of this podcast you know i'm a pro joe burrow guy i just think he is a phenomenal football player who has had a run of bad luck with injuries but when he is healthy and he's got a offensive line blocking for him he is one of the most fun players in the nfl to watch yes absolutely alright what else we move over to zach ertz a twenty twenty zach ertz prism black friday night selling for three thousand seven hundred and fifty dollars tight ends wow awesome card awesome couple of eagles bangers in here and i love twenty twenty it's a lot of lot of dollars for this but i mean maybe that's just where we are right now we move over to an off year but who no one cares because it's still selling two thousand nine bohme and krum superfractor of terrell owens one of one superfractor in bill's gear for three thousand four hundred and eighty dollars raw wow tl on the bill's still productive i feel like he had good numbers i'm not looking right now but yeah charles owens was sick well that that's one gotta figure out who his music comp is we'll we'll spend some time thinking on that there's there's probably a lot of good parallels with just think it it's first reaction axel rose i don't know why just you know yeah yep axel rose okay ninety nine upper deck livewires quantum gold brett favre one of one the last card we're covering bgs nine selling for two thousand one hundred and thirty dollars this card upper deck we don't talk about upper deck enough this card's got a lot going on but this is also a card i didn't know about and have never seen before and thought it would be cool to to mention i'll be honest i hate a digital one of one stamp i hate a digital numbering stamp yeah in general like a printed on the card emboss it stamp it i have my own thoughts on this top scrum football release the numbering it's just like a little weak when you look back at old older releases they were they were putting some nice gold foil they were you know there was a heat press involved there was a stamp involved this it's like what you just run it through a kinko's like what what is this digital one of one i could put this in my computer printer and make one of these you need some steam coming off the card for it to be legit yes yeah alright is it collecting updates anything nothing nothing same i've been been on the move which leads me to the card call out we asked to see tops chrome that was sick turned into a super fracture fest but over the weekend i was then traveling i was doing a lot a lot of time in the car with a toddler and i didn't get a reshare it was like a devastating we we like stayed with friends and then got up and then like drove home and kids stuff and then finally i like sat down and like saw a football card pod it's like twenty some story notifications and i opened them up and it's like the bubbles are all still there and it's like i click the person and the card pops up and it's sick and then it disappears because it was twenty four hours ago and so hand up that's on me i missed a bunch of your card callouts for tops chrome and there were so many good ones it it pained me but we'll get better i'll get better i promise you that but episode forty three card call out brett what do you think anything coming to mind shoot draft drafts coming up like favorite draft picks we got draft i feel like we gotta shave that for next week should we do it should we do how about this that's too i was gonna i wanted to get the the audience to weigh in on their favorite or least favorite but we just did tops chrome last week right yeah or just a card and a pair it with a song maybe a little dj set on the football card pod so you have to like post the card to your story add a song to it you can do that as a feature this will be a curated football card pod playlist so when you go through our stories you're gonna hear a bunch of songs so bonus points if you add a little blurb of of like why the song and the player are a good pair but let's yeah let's get a football card pod set going this man can think on the fly this might this will be maybe my favorite one to go i love taking the time and just scrolling through all of them at once like in the evening after you launch this mhmm and i cannot wait for this one so great callout yeah song must be attached song has to be playing there there might be technical difficulties sometimes of like you can add a song to a story but it's like muted so just make sure that we're hearing the song and that you're tagging the football card pod on instagram and that you're following the football card pod on instagram we had a nice little follower bump between the last episode a thousand is in our sites we're at like nine nine fifty something so keep telling friends keep sharing when you're listening to it i love pictures of people in their cars or people wherever listening to football card pod it is awesome it's so cool that you guys listen to us ramble about this stuff every week episode forty three is done we'll see you next week
