The Football Card Podcast #37: Only 3 Football Cards in 54 Six-Figure Sales… What Does That Tell You?

hello and welcome to the football card podcast this is it you made it and you're listening to the fastest growing and the longest running podcast in the entire world that's centered on football cards and most importantly football cards i'm your host john aka pac nicholson and with me as always is brett mister stacking slabs himself brett how are you doing i'm well i was telling you in advance of the recording we are getting out of town for a couple days and so it has been a mad dash you know getting the work in making sure the content is still rolling making sure bags are packed kids are ready it has just been a doozy but you know what i treat the football card podcast as a reprieve so i'm very much looking forward to this conversation and i will say just a nugget and shout out cardladder we'll we'll just shout out cardladder now because they make gathering data like this so easy i knew it was like a big week in the hobby i like knew just through like the social graphics people's commentary on big sales but since the last time we recorded and here's a little here's a little nugget so there's been fifty four six figure sales across the hobby there has been two multimillion dollar sales across the hobby this is just since the last time we recorded and that's a lot people love to talk about big sales but i think what's interesting about that is out of that fifty six total number three of them which we're gonna be talking about in today's episode were football cards so that's five percent so to me that says yes let's celebrate big sales in the foot on the football side but football still has a lot of room only three out of that that that group and so i'm excited to dig into some of those sales but yeah man there's a lot of room to grow here in the football card market and hopefully the football card podcast can inspire some of those collectors out there to continue to feel very confident about buying cards that we love yes you you're validated for spending all your money on football cards football card pod listener it is okay the bin that you smashed last night it's okay it's okay that offer you sent that's too high or that that you're on the fence about should i buy it or not it's okay just buy it you'll you'll thank us later what were the two multimillion dollar sales i know the mj yes that the one zero one masterpiece what was the other you know what like you were i i had it up and then i clicked out of the window so i'll do it in real time but as i'm looking this up maybe you can share what's how how have you been what what's been going on with you since we last spoke oh we're good pat nicholson household's rocking i was telling you before we started recording built some ikea furniture over the weekend mhmm ikea is a hilarious place we bought a bunch of stuff without at all considering how we're gonna fit it all in our car because we went with our daughter with a car seat in the car and we're getting like a bed and a mattress and a toy storage that like a lot a lot of items and then i stroll out to the car and it all hits me that we were woefully unprepared to get everything in there with a car seat and child it's like this should have been a trip done with car seat removed that road down so i was like out there by myself trying to figure it out had to like take off headrests but to take off the headrest you had to take put down the seat to put down the seat you had to take out the car seat it's also cold and shitty outside then i'm like trying to haul this stuff in the car there was a breaking point i thought it wasn't gonna happen but i got it over the hump i got everything in the car and i get out and i'm kinda exhausted and i just look over through the window because it's like this loading zone in ikea where everyone's you can like see what other people are doing and there's this this other guy in there this older like dad just with his arms crossed just smiling at me just gave gave me the nod he's like you did it you figured it out i was like alright that's all i needed just a little bit of you know outside validation made that that battle worth it so you haven't built an ikea furniture over here bro ikea building ikea furniture not as fun as collecting football cards that's for sure but to follow back up it was this the t two zero six wagner and sgc authentic three point five milli the mona lisa of sports cards as some would say but this isn't a football card so wagner get off the screen don't care don't care get him out he never ran for a touchdown oh he never ran for a touchdown did was did was he a plumber and fought in war and also played football i don't think say did he serve he had to have served except i don't know he well maybe world war one no no he was you know know what we should we should do and this wouldn't work here with the football card podcast because this is a baseball card but this this made me like think about as i'm looking at this card that's been you know a part of mainstream media and netflix and all that like how much this might be fun to like pick foot and maybe in a future episode or two pick some football cards that are being propped up and are known as the best or the goat or the greatest and just like you and i can just tear them apart and say why why these cards aren't aren't as great as everyone says they are i like that let's tear them down season four the tear them down season yep we're that that though that market that's soaring right now for football cards our goal here is to bring it back down to earth so we can afford some cards again yep so this is season four the premiere which makes this episode thirty seven thirty seven episodes none of them possible though without our wonderful friends at card ladder the only ones i'm wearing the merch today i felt you know i was getting ready and i was like this seems like a card ladder merch day so shout out to our good friends at card ladder for supporting the football card pod go sign up for card ladder today just do it thirty sevens light on the hall of famers two hall well alright the website lists three of hall of famers jimmy johnson not the coach this was a defensive back for the niner the nascar driver not the nascar driver and then doke walker mhmm and then they also had dion sanders on there mhmm dion is a famous twenty one but i do very vividly remember when dion returned to the ravens and he wore number thirty seven because he was thirty seven years old and at the time he felt like the oldest player ever thirty seven i remember just feeling like holy shit this is i mean it was like such a spectacle he's putting his jersey number about how old he is and it was like it was like him and morton anderson were like the two oldest dudes in the league it felt like so and now in hindsight i'm like he was only thirty seven like that's so young what the hell so shout out dion's raven seasons where he was wearing thirty seven what well i'll start with you what thirty sevens though jumped out to you this was an instant for me when i saw it was episode thirty seven i instantly thought about rodney harrison he was like the first guy that came to my mind i think i remember being in high school and one of my best friends we used to you know who i talk football with and we play madden and all this stuff like we'd always like go through like the players in each position players we like and we would always talk about rodney harrison and we talk about rodney harrison in the same breath as like brian dawkins because they were the intimidating bruising safeties at the time and so i have always had high remarks when it comes to rodney harrison i just think when you can have a presence on your field at the safety position i always think there's a big advantage there and i think harrison was very versatile right he could come up in the box stop the run great in coverage just an excellent player so so some some notes about rodney harrison two time super bowl champ two time first team all pro one time one time all pro second team dude he played from nineteen ninety four to two thousand and eight which is just a hell of a career for a safety in terms of longevity i know he had his success and accolades on the patriots in the super bowl years but don't sleep on that chargers tape that's where i kind of fell in love with rodney harrison as a player he was released by the chargers in two thousand two and then he signed a six year deal with the patriots it's like you don't see that nowadays so rodney harrison great safety i did look up i looked up a i was just digging through a sale so he has a nineteen ninety eight skybox premium star rubies and this car that i'm showing on the screen is sick like you can just see he's going and running out into probably his own coverage or potentially you know going to chase the back out of the backfield but the image is amazing horizontal view you can see harrison's eyes just a very intelligent player but what's stunning about this card is that this card is a pop one and it sold july six of last year for three hundred and forty eight bucks three hundred and fifty bucks dude for this card psa eight pop one that to me like this is what like i see stuff like this in these notes and nuggets and i'm just like yeah when people complain about cards being too expensive like there are plenty of other avenues to go explore but to me this card like i don't know highest graded copy of a you know player of harrison's caliber in a parallel that's you know as significant as star ruby's says something to me so that stood out in my mind maybe people are sleeping on defensive players i thought they weren't but with this sale being last year man someone got a deal shout out rodney harrison yeah i mean his highest selling card of all time looks to be a twenty twenty one mosaic nebula one of one rodney harrison yeah i couldn't talk about four hundred fifty six bucks yeah i was like there's gotta be a better card to to talk about then twenty twenty two panini honors flawless auto one zero one for four hundred i see this rubies at three forty eight his other year of rubies the ninety nine for two sixty what we're saying here is that you could build out the sickest rodney harrison pc ever pretty easily can you help me understand how so i have these remarks about harrison and i have no fandom connection to him like i'm just like man rodney harrison he was sick how like you got the chargers fans which i know are lapsed then a lot of them have abandoned ship and are you know especially those san diego chargers fans i know a few who said nope can't do it and they go pick another team or follow a player but then you've got the patriots who have had so much success and harrison was such a key piece of that like how how this isn't like some guy like how and he's on on our tv screens every sunday night every sunday night we're reminded of rodney harrison how does this happen that i don't know that's it's something we continue to see though do you think it's the i mean defensive players don't no one collects defensive players they say the maybe the switching teams of it all maybe if he was a patriot for life that would be a little more endearing for patriots fans like if i'm a patriots fan rodney harrison probably falls pretty far down the list of like all time patriots to collect because they've have an abundance of success to choose from and different types of players and different like literally two different kind of dynasties wrapped into one dynasty and like yeah the chargers maybe just a there's no chargers collectors out there and then he's not tenured enough as a patriots fan patriots player to be collected on that front i don't know i don't know i'm grasping at straws here it doesn't doesn't make sense to me that sick player sickest cards are this relatively this cheap so if if we'll move off of harrison but if everything you said is true okay but that doesn't discount the point that inevitably these sets in the nineties rubies pmgs they might not be doing it now but dude every like the model of like what's happening with nineties basketball cards stuff just trickles down and i just i can't imagine there's not going to be a collector or collectors that are like you know what i'm gonna go get all of the ninety i'm gonna go set collect all the nineteen ninety eight star rubies and that i think i've heard pieces of bits and pieces of people collecting different nineties parallels but like inevitably if this market continues to mature and grow like that's going to be an avenue that collectors go to so in that in that spot man it makes a card like this which is the highest graded copy of this in a psa slab very very exciting if you would've if i would've said this was a thousand dollar card i would've been like man that still seems like quite the deal for a rodney harris and pmg but i don't know i really love defensive players so maybe it's just me yeah awesome card awesome thirty seven a couple other thirty sevens i have to shout out first doke walker i mean i know the name the doke walker award is given out to the best college football running back every year just had to take a gander at the old wiki and pro football reference though get you know do the due diligence special on doke walker another just perfect guy all around like he was a halfback and kicker he's kind of a stud kicker won the heisman trophy for smu mustangs in nineteen forty seven he then went on and played for the lions from nineteen fifty to nineteen fifty five won two nfl championships while he was there was a four time first team all pro five time pro bowler led the league in scoring twice because he was also kicking just the all around do doing it all i think i saw somewhere one season he went forty three for forty three in extra points which i feel like that's hard to do today like people are missing extra points today so for dope too much dope being able to go forty three for forty three in nineteen fifty four is just very impressive to me granted i know we moved the extra point back since then but he not only kicked off forty three extra points he averaged fourteen point four yards a touch so doke walker stud sadly though i'm pretty sure i read it yeah he died because of a skiing accident so just warning those skiers out there skiing skiing's scary man i'm not a skier stay away i skied a bunch as a kid and then like two years ago a year ago we went to perfect north like with our another couple and like their kids and me and my buddy went skiing and yeah i'm pretty sure i messed my knee up i'm fine now but like for a couple months after it was like certain certain movements there was a a tinge of something and yeah skiing you can get messed up if you're not if you're not ready for it so shout out doke r i p i gotta shout out i as you're talking about the doke walker award i'm just gonna go from twenty fifteen to twenty twenty five we'll do ten years and i'm just gonna read off the doke walker award oh what's what's great about this is there's a like a lot of it translates into pretty sweet nfl player so twenty fifteen derrick henry out at alabama deontay foreman in twenty sixteen out of texas twenty seventeen here's a name bryce love from stanford twenty eighteen and twenty nineteen back to back jonathan taylor out of wisconsin so that's kinda fun najee harrison twenty twenty out of alabama super bowl mvp in twenty twenty one kenneth walker the third out of michigan state twenty two bijan robinson out of texas twenty three ali gordon the second out of oklahoma state twenty twenty four ashton dent gentee boise state twenty twenty five jeremiah love notre dame who just during his combine was just like hey everybody i know i'm a running back but if this were another year i'd probably be drafted number one he just looks so sick yeah it's a good group of backs yeah love's stock seems to have skyrocketed even more so after the combine people are just raving about him can i make a prediction here yes he's gonna be first team all pro in his rookie year that's a bold prediction don't even know where he's going don't care i feel like that's what people thought about genti and then you just go to the wrong situation yeah i don't know we'll see i would love to see that i just think running backs have a harder time overcoming situate like stud running back doesn't always translate to stud production right away but i'd love to be wrong i'd love to i love running backs so what if he goes to the chiefs he i think he could be very good right away yeah i'm just i'm so high on him so i'm obviously i'm the i'm a little biased but i'm excited to watch him put on some an nfl jersey and run the football a little bit yeah no just lottery skill position players are the best it's exciting i wanna see electric players make electric plays that's it i'm a simple man thirty seven so i have to shout out sean alexander i've talked a lot about sean alexander or on instagram over the years he was a favorite player of mine growing up i had him in fantasy specifically the in two thousand two when he scored five touchdowns in the first half of a sunday night game against the vikings and it like i was like kind of a passive fantasy person i just started playing i didn't really get it my friend was super into it yeah this was two thousand two this is early yahoo fantasy sports days and anyways that game propelled me to a win and also like put the hook in me for oh my god fantasy is awesome sports are awesome running backs are awesome so shout out sean alexander he even this was a time where i was sending off a lot of autograph requests to teams like sending a sace self addressed stamped envelope to team facilities asking for autographs and i got one from sean alexander so that was always cool and it also reminded me one time on ebay i bought a list of wwf superstars' home addresses which i would love to see the listing and i'd love to see that now because i remember it just came in an envelope and it was just three pieces of paper stapled together with just like undertaker address kurt angle address i did get kurt angle's autograph signed signed a card with a ballpoint pen so shout out kurt angle or whoever sold me the list addresses on ebay just had like fifty po boxes set up and was just running this whole autograph forgery business probably something like that but you know as a middle schooler taking a flyer for like ten bucks on a list of wwf superstar addresses felt like a goodbye to me and in hindsight i still think it was a goodbye dude that's a great that's a great buy i i i hope someone wasn't scamming you but yeah was undertaker's his his address had to be in death valley right i i couldn't tell you i think i was probably shocked that undertaker and kane weren't living the same house they're brothers why don't they have the same address they because because kane probably burned down the damn house and they weren't living there anymore burned down the funeral home here is here is i had a call you're talking to sean alexander in madden two thousand seven with sean alexander on the cover just like right in my brain dude i played the absolute living shit this is part of the era where i was a degenerate like trying to jockey for position in on the madden leaderboard and dude this game just i would stay up all night playing this game in two thousand so good sean alexander at the time of this because he was on college football two thousand one in an alabama uniform so he was the first player to be on both larry fitzgerald then eventually was on madden twenty ten but he was like it was like him and troy paul mollard split cover yeah split cover but speaking of sean alexander touchdown a touchdown addict well addicted to two things one addicted to having kids sean alexander had facts has fourteen children which is great shout out sean alexander just breeding and the there'll be alexander's probably playing football yes for the rest of my life so that's cool it his touchdown performances so i feel like not a knock but i have seen discourse around sean alexander people are like he benefited from having amazing offensive lines in seattle which he did there's a bunch of like some he has some jones walter jones and there's someone else he has some hall of hutchinson hutchinson yes thank you because he finished his nfl career with a hundred and twelve touchdowns which is i believe he's like the most to not be in the hall of fame hundred and twelve total touchdowns pretty crazy in high school though he had in three varsity seasons alexander rushed for six thousand six hundred and fifty seven yards and a hundred and ten touchdowns so he had a hundred and ten touchdowns in high school he then goes to alabama and he was like red shirt his freshman year junior and senior year he really got playing time but he had forty eight touchdowns in his forty one games in college so he's up to a hundred and fifty eight touchdowns career and then he puts up a hundred and twelve in the nfl so that's like two seventy two hundred and seventy touchdowns the man's addicted to touchdowns they you know when i think of sean alexander i remember like they there was a player the first player that was getting referenced to being maybe adjacent to sean alexander was david johnson and mhmm dude i just the humble rumble by the way what a nickname i i was i was like in my mind i was like oh david johnson had a good stretch and i went and looked at his stats so in twenty sixteen his year was insane he had yep twelve hundred touchdowns but that was kinda it like it it there was there was not i mean he his rookie year he had eight touchdowns but that was his only thousand yard year so yeah goes to show you that sean alexander really was a touchdown machine even though they tried like some guys later in later in their careers they or other guys that popped up they tried to compare him it just never panned out really no sean alexander had a and more than like like i love priest holmes but priest holmes had three years three and a half years sean alexander had a five year run these are his scrimmage yards and touchdown totals from two thousand one to two thousand five sixteen hundred yards sixteen touchdowns sixteen hundred yards eighteen touchdowns seventeen hundred yards sixteen touchdowns eighteen hundred yards twenty touchdowns nineteen hundred yards twenty eight touchdowns like those are top fantasy running back scoring seasons like five in a row he just was putting up touchdowns and yards he just didn't catch the ball like he was not a mhmm a ppr guy he only had two hundred and fifteen catches in his entire career so that hurts his like if you look on like overall fantasy running back seasons like even his mvp year i don't even think it's in the top five just because he it was all rushing but yeah won an mvp offensive player of the year that year first team all pro just cleaned up in o five and that actually came after o four when he lost the rushing title by one yard curtis martin won it and sean alexander was like mike holmgren stabbed me in the back he like had like a quote where he shit on his coach and then later apologized but it was just i remember out of character for sean alexander who was like the most nice humble seeming person to be pissed off about losing the rushing title but then he just bounced back and won the mvp next year so you know it fueled him this this conversation on sean alexander just wants dude all i wanna do right now is to look up steve hutchinson film and just watch him just bearing i i mean he was the pulling guard he was like the guard and it was probably responsible for a lot of you know supporting those big seasons but i feel like when we're talking influential players that don't get talked about enough steve hutchinson like i feel like quentin nelson is quentin nelson because of steve hutchinson so anytime we can kinda talk about some offensive linemen technique like helping supporting these running backs i'm i'm gonna i'm gonna take the time to entertain that in this space yes absolutely and sean alexander's highest selling card this listing is cracking me up so it sold in january first two thousand six and the listing just says sean alexander two thousand showcase masterpiece one of one rookie bgs question mark i just don't know why yeah no picture and the question mark like i don't know it's throwing me off is this actually the card but it sold for thirteen hundred dollars in two thousand six card ladder card ladder value is twenty five k that might be a little off little high well i don't i don't know who knows one o ones these days but beyond that he had a twenty twenty two flawless shield auto sell for twelve hundred dollars in twenty twenty three yeah sean alexander another player that a weird i guess because he his career was relatively short i think he was like two thousand to two thousand eight so he's only got you know a couple years of super fractures do you have one of these i do have one of those his two thousand two gold refractor psa ten five hundred and eighty seven bucks in june of last year yeah i have that in a ten and then i have his x factor in a b g s nine i think dude this is such a cool card it's so dude the way he's positioned this is this come on like aesthetics looks like this card is is just it's got it going on man yeah his his in the old seahawks jersey too that i love that era of the seahawks jerseys before the the super bowl rebrand but shout out sean alexander was truly like him and priest holmes were two of the first guys that i'm like i like these guys as kids so as a kid so i'm gonna just collect their cards i don't care if the market's not really supporting them or whatever it was so i just encourage people to find players like that find your rodney harrison who's someone that went to your high school or went to your college or went like whatever just finding that one random connection point and giving you giving you permission to collect them is always fun alright thirty sevens that was that was good should we oh yeah let's start our drive so last episode season three finale i'm sure it kept you all on the edge of your seats of what's gonna happen in season four but we're pinned at our two yard line and we gotta march we gotta go on a drive and try and get some points so let's see what we can do with this first series in season four episode one here's the three and out alright first down we had because i did a call to action for people to submit questions thank you everyone who submitted questions we're getting to not all of them but some of them one topic that was consistent though was tops chrome tops chrome football i believe it's coming in like april not sure the exact date but people have questions about tops chrome football and pigskin pancakes sports cards said will tops chrome football have similar prices and popularity as prism football brett what do you think i think that out of the gates the prices will be very high i think topps obviously views the license as a strategic asset and if we just look at what they did with the tops chrome basketball launch i think it's probably gonna look and feel a lot of the same way heavy promotion retail placement athletes involved commercials you know media runs you name it like this is their flagship so i i don't know from a collector perspective from a like top end of the market perspective of breakers breaking this people chasing the most expensive cards like that's going to be bananas and it'll probably look a lot like prism what i don't know is how collectors in this era will absorb tops chrome football so only time will tell there but yeah it's gonna be expensive i think it'll be very expensive out of the gates what about you i agree i think it'll have the full marketing push behind it you know brady's gonna be opening tops chrome football you know like they're gonna have all all the people i'm getting more excited for it i feel like a few months ago didn't care but seeing some of the basketball stuff like saw lebron's gold refractor in a psa ten cell and i was just like oh a lebron james topps chrome gold refractor like license it was like oh i haven't seen one of these since two thousand nine like it was it there's a connection there there's like i know the lineage that got me excited and also the fact that there's fifty copies of those gold refractors like maybe i can get some of this current bears team because like that's another factor of me being excited about it is i like this current bears team and i wanna collect them and so i'm excited just for any release that gives me current bears players so i i have come around to be more excited for it and that goes into the next question what has new top's basketball license shown you that you hope does or doesn't carry in a football from my good friend alex monig asked that question and i think kinda what i'm saying already kind of excited about just some of the like gold refractor old parallel coming back but the on card autos look pretty cool in basketball and i'm excited for maybe maybe i'd become a non card auto guy or maybe i just overall like i'm excited to see a new set yes i know there's a ton and ton of parallels but it's also like maybe i find some random parallel that's out of ten and that becomes my thing you know it's like i'm i'm open i'm not never say never like if a card looks cool and i like it i'm gonna buy it it's kinda how i feel going into that release so i'm excited for tops chrome football but is there anything brett that you've seen on the basketball front that you like or don't like or hope comes into the football release i think what is the most attractive to me is looking at the one on one of it all and i like the fact that the basketball product has one one of one and it's the super factor mhmm you know we're coming off this era where it there's been a proliferation of one on one there's been levels in multi one of one so that part is appetizing to me i will say and this is gonna sound completely snobby of me but it's the evolution that i've i've i've been going down as a collector i don't like the accessibility of the fifty copies of the gold refractors it's too many for me like i just won't spend my money on that i just i just it just the the world i'm living in with this prism build it's just that's too much so i think they'll look cool but just as a collector i won't go for those but i think i would be more inclined if i do dip my toe into chrome to try to chase super fractures which is gonna be very hard and competitive out of the gate so i probably won't be a player right away it'll probably be one of those things i wait on what i don't like on the basketball side i think the photography is like not great like there's so many guys just standing there like dribbling the ball or it just sucks like the photos suck like they you know they invest in good photos for like key rookies like the cooper flag right he's like at the rim like that looks cool you know and it's not across the board bad but just i look at the photos and it's such a key part of the card and it's uninspiring uninspiring enough that as a tyrese halliburton collector i don't even look at the chrome stuff because it's just not attractive to me on the basketball side so i'm hopeful that and i'm get and i'm i'm giving top slash fanatics a break in year one so even if football is just guys standing there i'll i'll be like okay whatever i won't make a big fuss about this but by year two we're gonna need some some action shots and that's to to me a very important part of all of this yeah that's a good call i'm looking through just like recent sales of tops chrome and yeah like it sucks dude no one's talking about how shitty the photos are it's such a fine line between standing there and action shot it's almost can be as subtle as like the prism very photo variations and it's like ball in left hand ball in right hand where it's like i'm looking at the lebron and i'm like oh if he was just angled a little more forward like he's driving to the lane versus standing dribbling that would look cooler that's a that's a good call out i hope they they figure it out with photos and yeah even like khan canipple he's shooting a free throw no one wants to see someone shooting a free throw on a card what are we doing here yeah yeah it's we'll see we'll see and then final question on this wasn't necessarily tops chrome but i i grouped it in with this first down they're they're the defense is throwing the kitchen sink at us we we have to you know overcome to get positive yards here and they said this is from chargers pc sports cards what are your thoughts on unlicensed prism and will you continue your gold colts run brett i will not it is it has a finality point in twenty twenty five unlicensed is not for me i think there will be people ripping that stuff and still chasing it because they're gonna be throwing kabooms in there and you know that's gonna downtowns will see about be a part of it but they'll be unlicensed but i will not i have zero interest i will continue i will continue to buy the stuff i need that has already been released so like my mindset is it's it's actually i feel very relieved and very refreshed where as i'm going into this topps launch i don't feel compelled to go out and buy topps chrome football because i have not built a collection around that so it's like and the stuff is gonna be crazy and then on the flip side there's no new prism coming out that i i need because i'm not buying the licensed stuff so i actually i'm i'm like it's i've been running hard out here and i've got some stats at the end when we're talking about like what we've been buying i've got some stats to back up just the absurdity of this prism project i'm i'm on but it's it dude i just i'm i'm i'm looking for a break like sit me on the sideline let me like not feel like i need to be glued to my phone for safe searches like i am very okay with like living in this new world where i feel like i don't have to chase new releases all the time because it's highly competitive it costs a lot of money it makes the hobby go around i know that but like there's a lot of cool football cards that have been sitting around forever and i'll probably be chasing those instead and be a little more patient what about you alright just quick hypothetical though say un unlicensed prison comes out prison twenty twenty six jonathan taylor black finite unlicensed pops up on ebay three hundred dollars obo nope no no dude i i it's like i sick what if it looks awesome and you can't even tell it's unlicensed i'm very big on these lines in the sand i did i draw and in my collection one of them is like post playing days like i don't have i it's just like with my colts collection i'm i'm not accepting those i'm not accepting variations and then i haven't had to draw this line but it's being drawn right now as we record this on march fourth twenty twenty six there the the line in the sand is drawn no one licensed colts so i i don't care how great it looks it's just it's not a part of what i'm doing alright i like that i like the i like that the line has been drawn i saw it i saw him draw it we all saw it we all heard it yeah i don't know like if the caleb finite looks sick and it pops up and it's of a price i i'm never gonna say never like i need to see them before yeah i don't know i'm i'm very open to trying new cards trying new things as i move into this into twenty twenty six of collecting rules are meant to be broken so we'll see it's not i don't anticipate it being something i'm hunting or like super excited about but i don't know we'll see we'll see what happens alright first down we got like i say we got five yards it's a good chunk second five you know we're getting out of the end zone we're maybe we're just getting our punter some room or maybe we're gonna go on the drive of a lifetime i don't know we'll find out on second down from dobbs card guy shout out dobbs card guy by the way love big thumbs up just being a josh dobbs super collector is one of the sickest things you can do just i love super specific super collectors of specific players it's awesome do you remember hold hold sorry about yeah you remember when like dobbs had his moment yes was it i remember there was like a big flip ink coming in and like trying to like i can't remember if it was like bid up a dobbs or like sell a but i remember just being like i want like i wanted to like stand behind the collector and be like don't you dare like we've got someone who's been the dobbs guy for the whole time i've been here like don't you dare right now it's so cool when not only like does someone collect like that but when then there's a moment like even our friend chris c diced cards with flaco with like flaco's browns resurgence the other year when it was like all of a sudden everyone wanted flaco cards and it's like there's this guy who's been collecting them all even when it wasn't the cool thing to do was collect flaco so love when when that happens but dobbs card guys question was do award winning or otherwise standout seasons impact the desirability of a card for you guys or is it is the set more important than the season the card captures i love when a card is tied to a significant season it's a factor but it's not i don't know if it's ever been the reason i've like tried to buy a card i've never been like oh so and so won them sean alexander won mvp in o six that means i need to go get an o six card it's more of kinda like i've talked about you know like the skill meters in madden or in tony hawk pro skater where it's like your agility your speed like how full is the bar on these different attributes like it being a cool season or like from like their prime is one of those attributes that i look for and if it's a full bar that's awesome but if it's like not a full bar the set the set bar is probably more important to me but i love when like a card captures the peak of a player so if it's like from the year that they had an awesome season or if it's the year after and so that awesome season is like freshly captured on the back of the card i'm a sucker for that type of stuff and i love like shout out modest danny modest card collection like him collecting mvps and then he gets a card from the year that they won mvp like that to me is such a cool way to think about collecting so yeah memorable seasons are are cool they get the thumbs up on my end dude this is turning into a video game podcast this tony hawk's pro skater three on playstation two i just you brought that up i just wanna like shout this game out i played this game so much the soundtrack ruled so much and every time you bring up tony hawk pro skater i just like i i think i'm just gonna buy like a playstation two and like get a bunch of the classics i've been consuming too much content you've been bringing it up and yep that seems like a fun thing to do when my kids are asleep is just go rip some tony hawk pro skater three that like a ps two specifically i'm very nostalgic for i want a playstation two i had a playstation two i played madden two thousand one on a playstation two that was like yes i had an n sixty four but like i feel like i was coming into my own as a gamer maturing as a gamer with the ps two what was it about the ps two it was like time and place and era of our lives but to me that seems like the most influential console over and i had everything but that one specifically i feel like my best gaming in my my peak gaming was on the playstation two a hundred percent same it was just revolutionary i because i was graduating from like n sixty four mhmm like blowing in cartridges now all of a sudden i've got laser disks like i knew playstation existed and that was their you know medium but i didn't i hadn't experienced it and the graphics at the time were insane i remember playing madden o one and someone like a player got tackled and then they had a chunk of like sod in their helmet and i was like oh my god like that is the most realistic insane thing i've ever seen i feel like i'm sure my mom was like this looks like you're watching a real game like you know at the time it just felt so above and beyond and real more realistic than anything we've ever seen and now if you look back at like two thousand man no one graphics it's terrible comparatively but no ps two was incredible and then x xbox live xbox live was the next shift when i got we're on the same page man we're on the same wavelength here yeah yes because ps two didn't have good online play like playstation didn't have it did it did though i it did not it wasn't it was the the infrastructure wasn't in place like it was on the xbox live it was like the primitive years of online play xbox like made it so simple like they made it much more palatable and easy to understand i gamed a lot i played a lot of video games in this era yeah i'm there with you to answer dobbs' question never the year for me it's it's like the nice compliment it's i put it in the same bucket as like jersey number cards like all those like attributes it's like the nice to haves but it's never the reason yeah alright we got three yards it's third and two let's see what we got here this is from drake's pc drake says other than laziness and a focus on money why is it that so many people let the market dictate players and or types of cards people collect how would the hobby be different if people allowed collecting habits to not be dictated by the market hope that makes sense maybe it's just my feed but i'm kinda getting prism gold finite kaboom logoman nebula etcetera burnout from drake's pc welcome back drake welcome back yeah i know i love it that i saw john you open up this on instagram and when i saw you were taking questions for this episode i was very much looking forward to drake being a part of it the ultimate question asker and he's coming at it with a drake question so i'll address it i don't think it's lazy and i also don't necessarily think it's always greed i think a lot of feeds look the same i think that is true but i believe the truth is most people don't let the market dictate their habits because they love money they let the market dictate their habits because it's validation this is cards like we're putting money into cards and so that validation is liquidity and that is like a safety net for a lot of people collectors who buy like other collectors typically know that comps exist demand exists and there is an exit strategy if they need it need one i think that makes collectors feel good and there's some certainty there if market signals mattered less you'd see more depth from collectors and probably more obscure sets but yeah i don't know if if that were the case then the market wouldn't be as strong as it was or is it it is and i i can like agree with what drake is saying but just as i'm like digging into this question and looking at the nuts and bolts of it like and i'm not trying to say there's no greed involved or it's not about money but i'm just trying to like take a different angle to it where for me as a collector when i see prism gold stuff or other stuff you know if if it's like positioned like i don't know you can just tell like if it's someone who's like in it for the money and they're posting someone something that's like you know jackson dart gold prism or something i'm just like whatever onto the next one but if it's like someone posting like they've completed a run of a player and they show like all the derrick henry gold prisms like to me that's cool and i appreciate that so yeah that's just like my perspective i think we just should never lose sight of like the validation that we get because we're spending a lot of money and it's just like we're taking chances when we put it in stuff that we're not sure about so yeah that's kinda my read on it what do you think i i think i had a similar thought like first off just on the like other than laziness and a focus on money why is it so many people at the market dictate players or types of cards they collect i don't think it's lazy to focus on money i think it's the exact opposite i think these kids that are out there flipping and hustling are putting way more effort into the hobby than i am like i'm a pretty passive lazy collector i think it's check my saved searches if a bears card or card of a player pops up that i like i'll try and buy it but i'm less i'm not like these kids that are timing the market like that is a way more involved way to go about this hobby i think and then it just got me thinking like what moves the market even and like why does this stuff show up in the market and it's like real life events so real life sport outcomes big sales like a big sale of a certain type of card can cause the market to react and then just like new releases you know like what's a new chase card in a new release like those are the things that are making news right when like a card sets sells for a record price when a new set comes out and the chase card gets hit or when player wins super bowl how does it translate to their cards and that market is like dictated by all that stuff which is just news and like that's always gonna be how it goes like people like to stay on top of the news it's it's for the masses it's like how this whole thing moves so it's like market is never gonna be like look at this set from two thousand four like you know like people make content like that and it's cool and i like seeing that but that's never gonna catch on and be more like exciting than the jackson dart finite just got hit you know like that's all but the news is always gonna be the current stuff and if you don't collect like the current stuff like yes i can see how you can feel like you're out of touch with the news but that's just it's what it is like it's it's fast food we you still need fast food to exist like everything can't be the steakhouse and like drake i don't think you want everyone collecting exactly like you do because then that would make your collecting hard like i think it's okay to embrace that other people collect in other ways it's like that's actually a good thing like it's if people are doing something different or collecting in a different way that's not a negative thing like there's no right or wrong way to do this thing it's a we're collecting sports cards like if you wanna buy cards sell cards go for it if you wanna buy cards stash cards go for it i don't know i just think it's like like i guess him saying like he's getting burnt out and i'm like well if you're getting burnt out stop looking at cards like pull back a little i don't know like it doesn't have to be the always on thing that i feel like sometimes it's easy to like get caught up in all of that and i've done it before i feel like i go through phases where it's i'm checking every safe search i'm on the i'm proactively hunting cards and like doing google searches and like trying to find these things and then sometimes it's like no i think i'm just gonna pull back a little chill with my current pc my current collection and just like cards come to me they'll come to me but yeah i don't know i don't know dude i just i just thought of like as you're talking about the fatigue and burnout i just was thinking about if there ever if there ever for me for me as a collector and as observer in the hobby if i ever reached the point where i like opened up my phone and someone had posted like a finite and i like was emotionless looking at it i just like like as close as i could be in this moment to the antonio brown shirtless like like run to the locker room that's like me sitting on that's when i know like okay it's the show's over thank you all see you later yeah and like i mean for drake to say that like getting fatigue or burnout from logo man and finites and prism i'm like you have some of these cards like that's and i'm not saying that as a bet but it's let ye without super fracture cast the first stone like if you if if this is the type of stuff you like collect how are you getting burnout of seeing that type of stuff like i'm always hyped to see cards i feel like and i don't know i don't know i get there's and i see what he's getting at though of like when the annoyance of other people not thinking creatively about building out collections and just following other people and doing i i like i don't wanna like i don't wanna get that thought lost in all of this conversation and dialogue i understand where you're coming from drake for sure like seeing the same stuff or maybe seeing a collector who collected one thing and then all of a sudden is just buying all of these you know finites or whatever and you're like trying to measure like is there authenticity to this is this genuine i my i go into like the observation of other collectors in this hobby from the perspective of like not every like not everyone's doing it like me and a a lot of people have a lot of intentions so i'm more or less fascinated by kind of those ebbs and flows with collector behavior and when when there's trends and to me it's a signal when i see certain players do certain things i'm like it's a signal to me that says well maybe i should avoid that now because the prices might be higher than they were a couple months ago so i i get where you're coming from drake i think we're we're just like that this is an interesting this is why we want you to ask your questions drake you give interesting questions for us to dive into and make us think so really good one yeah and i i think too what he's getting at and like what what we like in this hobby and what we value because we talk about this a lot it's like when there's a good collecting idea or a good like project like gets me going i think that like oh yeah the idea of i'm going to be a josh dobbs super collector and like going out and then putting forth an attempt at that claim like that's sick or i wanna collect the best prism colts collection like alright that's a cool idea go do it like those are more unique and original ideas than say like i wanna get green one of one kaboom because it's a lot of money and i hope it becomes more money like mhmm i think we like to favor those more creative ideas that are maybe based in fandom and passion versus the ideas that are based on money being the driver so totally get what he's getting at there but yeah that's a good third down question i think we got the first down they're pulling out the chains this is i'm excited to see how many weeks and i ja i'm feeling energized on this so i may i'm gonna say it right now let's get some more listener questions next week and we will see how many weeks it takes us to either score or get stopped we'll see how it goes so they gave us the first down so now it's first and ten from the twelve next week gonna write that down first and ten from the twelve you've got every play at your disposal right there we got it yeah that was we were at our own too i was thinking we might get a safety but we were able to fight through it you know so shout out us thank you for your questions listeners we will we will do that again we need more more questions moving on quickly nfl check-in any big updates my only update is i'm dealing with the unexpected retirement yeah blindsided yeah and this sucks i can't imagine if it was my quarterback and if it was like don't even talk about that right before the season started instead of being right before the draft like this drew dahlmann retiring from the bears at twenty seven years old the pro bowl center who was he played every single snap last year ugh like every single he was sick he was awesome retiring at twenty seven it hasn't really come out yet what he said but i assume it's gotta be some medical or just who knows maybe just lost the love of the game but yeah it sucks thankfully it's before free agency and before the draft but it really keeps bringing me back to like holy shit andrew luck retiring was insane like the way that that all unfolded the timing of it all was the status of the player like drew dahlman yes is an important piece of the bears offense but it's not like if caleb williams just retired tomorrow would be insane and that is what happened when andrew luck walked away in was it twenty nineteen twenty twenty nineteen season yeah i mean one one of the most did i remember like post retirement you go into bars or restaurants and they have like the banners of like nfl ticket package or like you know and all the promotions and directv ads and all this stuff and like it was him like it it was like so brutal to see it's like all of that but yeah man it happens quick it happens all of a sudden and yeah it's as as a fan like to lose someone that important unexpectedly it it's tough but you you know at least it didn't happen right before the season and he didn't go through training camp so you got plenty of time to try to fill the spot as best as the bears can yeah and drew dahlmann also a stanford guy i think something there these guys are just they're smart money vc investment money they they're gonna he's gonna go build a tech company yeah it's like why would i continue to scramble my brain when like i've already made enough money by twenty seven to retiring at twenty seven that is so sick like i can never be mad at a guy who is if you are in position to retire at twenty seven do it just do it yeah so that's brutal any any nfl updates on your end yeah dude i'm like i'm just i don't even dude yesterday as we're recording this there was the franchise tag deadline they transition tagged daniel jones don't know what to make of it obviously i want daniel jones back but like my biggest concern of all of this is like dude if if they don't get a deal done for alec pierce i'm dude i don't know if i can show up for this podcast anymore i will be so shitty i will have my pitch for it and it'll be just absolute malpractice the dynamic is pierce wants to play with jones there's like moving pieces and so i just dude if if if i see alec pierce in a patriots jersey next year or somewhere else i'm just gonna shit a brick like he's literally one of our best players and it's like the they better sign his ass to a long term deal like as soon as possible so like i'm stressing over that obviously our current administration is you know with in the ballard era you could cast stones forever and if if he fucks this up dude i'm i'm i'm gonna turn so heel like right out of the gates on this team so yeah i hope by the time this goes out alec pierce has resigned a deal like sign him like sign his ass like get it done like i i it's it's it's given me a lot of dude i was like at stoplights driving to my kid's school picking him up yesterday and just like refreshing twitter i'm like what's going on i'm like daniel jones whatever like what's going on with alec pierce so yeah that i'm stressed out right now because of that dude yeah the the searching for updates all yesterday i'm like when is max crosby coming to the bears like there's all this smoke coming out in the morning he moved from like plus two hundred vegas odds to minus one sixty that he's going to the bears i'm like oh this is about to get done and then someone sends me a adam shafter bears tweet and i'm like hell yeah let's go and it's drew dahlman retires i was like what the fuck what just happened dude it's the off season dude it's crazy so we'll see everything will work out this is all the once once the draft comes and then the rosters are set and we'll start you'll be confident about this team going forward they'll figure it out do you want jones back yeah yes yes yes i do it dude it's like a dollars and cents thing like there hasn't been a transition tag on a quarterback since nineteen ninety six with jeff george and obviously like the sentiment is he's his his people are trying to like make sure he's getting as most money as possible and so you know with the transition tag they can obviously you know match the contract but don't get the draft capital dude it's just like a dollars and cents thing so right now it's like i'm stressed out but like i don't know like it feels like there's like they're just trying to work in all the numbers so that they can make the moves that they want to or whatever but then it could also be a house of cards and all just like dude like i do want daniel jones i do like he played excellent eight and two while healthy and the quarterbacks are expensive and there's not much of a backup plan unless just like rip riley ma or riley leonard mhmm so i i want him back i do and understand like the dynamics to the whole situation but i i i won't be able to sleep at night if after drafting alec pierce and watching him progress each year into he is our number one wide receiver this year to let him walk would be malpractice so that's i'm i don't care what he costs like he is a one on one type of a receiver you can't you can't go draft a guy like him you you gotta sign him so that's that's what's giving me anxiety right now dude yeah that not fun but he'll be fine he'll be be fine they'll be fine let's get to some sales alright let's talk about some bangers we had a trio of pmg greens sell through the heritage auction platform just monster sales so let's start off with the brett favre ninety seven skybox metal universe pmg green psa nine selling for a hundred and forty six thousand four hundred dollars this is a obviously very high grade the last nine sold for the the last highest selling nine was in june of twenty two for seventy eight thousand dollars so i'm just gonna go through the the green sales then you've got the ninety seven metal universe green pmg jerry rice and a psa six this card sold for two hundred and one thousand three hundred dollars the last sale of a six was it looks like in okay not the last sale but the last highest sale was and this was the same copy i believe was in october of twenty two for a hundred and fifty thousand and then you've got the marino clearing psa eight clearing a hundred thousand at a hundred and six thousand seven hundred and fifty dollars it is pop pop one none higher so the highest copy great copy of the reno green pmg so dude yeah it these are like you know basketball prices right this is what we'd expect from like hall of fame all star level basketball players but yeah just monstrous sales of these cards dude yeah those are crazy those cards are sick the marino looks i mean they all look awesome but the marino dolphins color with the green and then even the packer like far green looks like that card is sick yes very clean and for it to be a nine that's crazy it's still so interesting to me to see football versus basketball and then like ninety seven metal green pmg specifically like what's the best card in the nba set it's like mj no question multi million dollar card and then kobe way up there football it's like barry sanders is at the top but jerry's right there you know it seems like basketball there's just way less of a like this is the distinct top card in the set the way that mj dominates the nineties let's let's do this this would be a fun impromptu so you take let's let's take let's take jerry rice and barry sanders off the table let's take michael jordan off the table on the basketball side if you're picking a basketball green pmg or a football green pmg none those guys like who you who you taking from like i just get one in my collection and give the right place or am i trying to prospect on like what's gonna be the most valuable long term i guess maybe that's all the all the factors like you can consider it all i'll start i mean basketball i go to allen iverson i just loved allen iverson so it would be an iverson green would be incredible or like the smart play i guess is kobe from a value standpoint but i to me personally iverson was my favorite football i don't know the bears checklist is so bad that damn marino is pretty sick just as like a that's a card i could see continuing to rise like marino was very very good his numbers are sick but i i don't know there's not a clear cut like i don't want troy aigman i don't even really want emmett smith is cool and his card is sick he has like the fighter jets in the background i think he had a sale of like sixty six k in this auction or like in the fifties he had a big sale i don't know football is just like way more i think there's way more people that not like i feel like basketball the floor is higher in basketball and like than the floor in football like you know like i i don't know i feel like tier three basketball players are still cooler than tier three football players like a random i still get more hype about basketball role players maybe than some of these football player like i just can't get hype about rashaan salam and curtis ennis and like the i can't do it even though i can want to try to i can't but i can get hype about keith van horn and kerry kittles like i remember i have more moments as a sports fan watching these lower level basketball players than the football players like a no name basketball player is still had more moments than football players in my mind i don't know what are you what are you thinking football it's tough i'd probably just go because i i really appreciate him as a as a fan i'd probably go marvin harrison on the football side that's sick and then on the basketball side i i to me it's an like my justification and to me it's a no brainer on the basketball side like jordan obviously number one and you know you got kobe you got iverson you got all these guys like dude i'm picking tim duncan every day of the week his rookie it's his rookie card the guy won five championships like you wanna you wanna pick the best five players and put them on the floor like i'm picking tim duncan at power ford all day of the week and his rookie card is in this and i think duncan is one of the more fascinating players when we're talking about collecting of all time so i'm i'm picking duncan for sure no reggie no i'm picking duncan well you gotta you gotta you gotta factor in the you know like i just think to me there's val like a lot of val there's more value in tim dude it's tim duncan's like rookie card for sure he's like great yes i'm looking through this checklist right now and like there's and it's just like so interesting to me how barry sanders is the highest selling the guy who won no super bowls mhmm right like the running a running back who won no super bowls is your highest selling card from this set where i i feel like we're so we're fed these days in conditions to buy quarterbacks and quarterbacks hold value and it's like favre is selling lower than them favre won multiple mvps in a super bowl dan marino mvp steve young's in the set like john elway's in the set like super aikman's in the set super bowl winning quarterbacks aren't getting really close to what barry sanders prices are so there's that's just that's there's something there there is something there monster sales excited what happens the next time these go off the board we move over to a modern card how about the twenty four optic christian mccaffrey gold vinyl one of one in a psa ten to boot sold on the ebay machine for three thousand four hundred and sixty eight bucks such a sick card optic gold vinyls so cool psa ten extra bonus points what do you what do you what do you have to say about this banger just looks those cards are built for 49ers cards like gold vinyl come on yeah with the 49ers uniforms that's a seems like a good price for a psa ten thirty five hundred for gold vinyl one zero one i mean like eighth year i don't know i that's still very a very cool card to me that yeah i would want my collection if i was collecting this type of thing i feel like i i know two people who would probably have were going for this card i don't know who who came out on top but i have guesses yeah excited to see the post you know we're talking about barry sanders the christian mccaffrey is like this generation's barry sanders for kids who are our age you know what i mean like like the the like kids when like ten years from now when or twenty years from now when kids are doing a podcast who are like you know ten years old like they're gonna be talking about christian mccaffrey probably like you know old guys like us are talking about barry sanders these days i maybe i mccaffrey the one knock i've always had like the consistency's never been there he's just like he doesn't even mccaffrey slander okay i don't know like when i look at his pro football reference i don't see the sustained bold numbers that i like to see and that's just me personally as a collector i like when the like he doesn't have back to back pro bowl seasons ever that's an interesting little fact we i thought we weren't talking about the pro bowl on this pod well that on pro football reference that star is an indicator of a successful season which is actually funny last i looked they didn't put one okay they did done they did for shadoor for a while he didn't have a pro bowl star and i'm like are they just choosing to not acknowledge this line hell yeah pro football play it's all about drawing lines and saying and shout out pro football reference but no mccaffrey incredible player three seasons over two thousand scrimmage yards that's awesome like that's for me personally a big collecting point but yeah no i don't know the i'd say derrick henry is the running back of this era over cmc i dude i love derrick henry but i don't to me like derrick henry has more of like the the lunch pail like just get it done and i'm thinking about moments and electricity like mccaffrey look put on like compare and contrast the two i don't know i'd love to see both those highlight reels next to each other and i'm not saying mccaffrey is better than derrick henry by any means i'm just saying just like the reason like why is barry sanders so collectible right now it's because people remember these things about his runs and these like like him defying all odds and putting everybody on his back i don't know yeah but like to me derek henry that ninety nine yard touchdown run like he has some of those moments of like he has the highlights i guess and and then his numbers are ridiculous like in ten straight years he's played ten seasons he has a hundred and twenty seven touchdowns like he's climbing the all time touchdown leaderboard why why don't i see anybody posting derrick henry cards why isn't there a derrick henry collector there's plenty of christian mccaffrey that's i'm trying to point it back to cards and purchases i just i i just don't see the same excitement for henry from a collectibles perspective as i do for mccaffrey yeah no i i'd agree there and it's yeah where are the i guess they both changed teams yeah there this is an interesting so in and in their careers mccaffrey is at twelve thousand nine hundred and seventy nine scrimmage yards ninety eight touchdowns so he's getting up there that's a lot henry's at fourteen thousand eight hundred and nineteen yards hundred and twenty seven touchdowns one one more season played and then mcafee i'd be then mcafee sat out because of the injuries too and yeah like even yeah and that's in so henry in a hundred and fifty three total games mccaffrey in a hundred and twelve total games efficient granted henry didn't wasn't like starting his first couple years he didn't really start until his third year in the season so only a hundred and twenty two starts for henry but yeah no they're both incredible running backs this is a interesting splitting hairs here yeah i don't i don't maybe jonathan taylor jonathan taylor for a second this year i thought was about to well i think we all thought was gonna do something otherworldly and become like the face of nfl running backs when it when it comes crashing down and it hurts inside alright what else we got we've got james cook finite with the nfl rushing champion this is his twenty four finite it says that in the description so gotta love the story i'm telling there best offer twenty five hundred dollars dude i thought like i thought this was a pretty pretty nice nice deal on this card it looks sick coming off a big season these things are selling very strong i just i it felt very reasonable to me when i saw the price yeah like again yeah coming off of a rushing title to me that is a reason i've collected players in the past that's a fine reason to collect someone like he's put together already some strong career numbers fifty four hundred total yards forty one touchdowns in just forty six games started so yeah james cook i feel like it's just always gonna be josh allen's team so he'll never be like the star but mhmm he's definitely a important piece of that offense alright last card i thought this was the best purchase i've seen in months this is the twenty nineteen prism brian burns rookie finite psa nine this sold via best offer for two thousand three hundred and fifty dollars like i consider burns one of the best rushers in the nfl like he is disgusting he has had an awesome career and i have i think i was watching this card and it was i feel like it was listed for an an extraordinary number and i it's like you don't even like make offers type of a situation and then i just saw this this thing sell for twenty three hundred dollars and i was like god that that to me that seems like a a great buy so yeah man what do you think yeah that's awesome i love i don't own any twenty nineteen finites but they look sick twenty nineteen is not my favorite we've talked about this not my favorite like gold year but for finites it they really look good and even that like he's in his like practice gear doesn't bother me that much on this one like it still looks good yeah great great card congrats to whoever took that one down yeah and thank you cardladder for helping support our market segment absolutely shout out cardladder let's move into collecting updates we'll get out of here what are the current collecting projects that you're focusing your resources on any big pickups this week brett dude yeah i've i've had a just prism gold and gold vinyl colts collection just it's been insane and it's because of the availability a lot of cards that i don't have are popping up so here are some stats for my twenty twenty six purchases i've purchased four gold vinyl i've purchased fifteen gold prisms and i have five gold prism upgrades so that that's that's just this year and i wanna shout out my favorite wins of the week i won the twenty seventeen adam vinatieri gold prism which is this i believe the first gold prism of his certainly first in colts yeah first i think but that that was another car that was listed on ebay for an extraordinary price and there's one at auction ended up taking it down and i also had the gold vinyl but i picked up the twenty twenty darius leonard gold which completes his gold run for me so yeah man at some point i'm gonna take it when i get like i've got like a pipeline of like forty golds right now and some finites and some gold vinyl maybe more when i get those graded i'm gonna i'm gonna take a photo for everyone of just everything like laying it all out because when when i talk about it i'm not sure like people like i get a lot of questions from people about it and it's it's like i'm trying to get them all like yeah do you have a like a tracker on like how many colts our ladder car ladder i use but like what's the total number of colts gold prisms in existence and then like what how far are you on progress i i had that in place and it just i didn't keep up with it so i need i need to update it okay that i need to yeah because i imagine i've seen like you've posted your box where it's like these are my colts' golds it's like holy shit he's got a lot of gold prisms when you like something you like something what have you been picking up dude yeah so i went on a little two thousand two finest refractor spree that's been a set that i've been so with finest there's sixty two veterans and then there's fourteen veterans that have jersey patches in them so for a total of seventy six veteran cards that have refractors or golds it's yet to be determined if the veteran jerseys have extractor versions i've never seen one in my entire life of collecting but there's rumored to exist but never seen one but i'm trying to get at least a refractor of every player from that set because i'm never gonna be able to get a tom brady gold or x factor nor do i want to even if i could spend that much money on that one card but i'm up to fifty four out of sixty two of the veterans having at least a refractor and i'm up to eleven out of the fourteen veteran jerseys so overall i'm up to sixty five out of seventy six wow i'm like the fact that i'm getting that close was getting exciting to me so i bought a mike anderson jersey refractor that was sitting on ebay forever for like fifteen dollars i was like let me just get this like checking off a number is is worth it and a brian erlocker popped up so i finally got that and then i got a michael vick regular refractor so yeah those three and i still have a lot of big names left mainly brady but it's just fun like pulling closer and i'll use this platform if you have a drew bledsoe o two finest refractor or rod smith o two finest refractor those are ones you'd think they'd be easy and affordable but i can't find them so the hunt continues oh man when that thing gets complete or close to complete we're gonna need a photo of that yeah they do you ever have an do you have an explanation before we get out of here about because i believe edron james is the has a jersey like what is the what is do you know why no idea and it's just it's annoying because like having just a regular edron james golden like the the jersey patches on shiny cards is just never a combo that i've liked in collecting and so the fact that o two finest has fourteen guys that even their base cards only a jersey patch like there's no just regular base card without a jersey patch of edger and james i think the base is numbered to like four ninety nine or five ninety nine yeah no explanation for it i think it was you know two thousand two jersey cards were becoming a novelty and they then though did that with like some of the best players like of those fourteen that are jersey only it's like so many good hall of famers so they're still cool cards but yeah it's it's a fun set to collect and then there's like sixty rookies in like the o two rookie class has a couple big names like dwight freeney julius peppers and ed reed but i just the the rest of the class is so uninspiring that i'm just limiting myself to to veterans so we'll see we're almost there gotta get a brady though getting a brady's just like spending thousands of dollars just for a brady it's not what i wanna do but it'll be worth it there'll be there'll be a right time where you'll have this influx of cash one will be available at a somewhat decent price and you'll just do it it it'll just be a timing thing stars will align you back alright now it's time to do it now it's time yeah alright card call out we need to think of one while i shout out the combine photos people were sending combine we didn't have that many mhmm but it was good when we when we had them any what should we do for card call out season four let's see here what could we do season four four packs just like a four pack of cards kind of a four pack do you know what i was thinking this might be fun because it was such a topic that for so many weeks on here when we were talking about twenty twenty five prism football and just like the oddity jerseys like what if what if people just like shared a card of a player in their collection not on the team that we remember them buying just see what happens yep god that's a good one yes alright so odd jersey players we'll call it call it that cards of a player in a jersey that is not their most notable team that they played for like i don't wanna see i don't wanna see like peyton manning broncos cards like i that doesn't qualify like i wanna see yeah you're right i it's gotta be i'm trying to think of a a good example like a like an edgerrin james seahawks card not a cardinal but his seahawks card would work well there's like bonus points for what percentage of career games were played in that jersey there you go like the lowest number possible that's it that is it manning broncos is probably like a thirty percent of his career was maybe denver some sounds about right yeah it's like that's that's fine but it's i want that like point zero five percent like yeah edger and seahawks jerry rice seahawks yes like let's find example everybody everyone's just gonna be showing seahawks cards seahawks cards oh this is good and like bonus points if you calculate the ratio and show your math of like this is how many games they played for this team out of their career it's this this is the percentage and whoever gets the lowest percentage wins so there's a contest for you let's see what we can let's see what the people can bring hey and i'll say this i wanna do a giveaway at some point this year like i want the give and we'll be completely transparent the giveaway will the intention of the giveaway will be to drive people to the football card pod instagram to follow and grow that account yeah obviously you'll have to follow pac you'll have to follow me but we'll we'll we're gonna give some we're gonna give something away like a hobby box or something stacking slabs is funding this we're we're growing baby we're we're gonna give a hobby box it's and it's not gonna be something new it's gonna be something from the archive something that we talk about that's i was thinking about that driving i was like we gotta do a giveaway so that's on my mind see we gotta get we need a we need to get to a thousand followers we're at eight seventy four we've been like stalling in these eight this eight hundred range we need to get to a thousand because then we can go live from the football card pod maybe we go live and rip a box or like yep maybe the giveaway we give away random teams and then do some sort of break so that way like multiple people can win i don't know we'll figure something out but it all starts with following the football card pod on instagram tell a friend about the football card pod feel like this is a listen people could listen even if they're not in the cards so if you have any friends who are card curious send them to the football card pod just a couple guys talking about old players and then maybe you know transitions them into cards who knows but thank you for who doesn't wanna talk about tony hawk by the way too so we'll slide that in but thank you to the current listeners you are the foundation you're the reason we have the football card pod thank you for listening excited to see these this card call out this week and thank you for listening we'll see you next week
