The Football Card Podcast #29: We Want Cards That Represent Super Bowl Halftime Shows

Hello, and welcome to the football card podcast. This is it. You made it. It's Friday, and you are listening to the fastest growing podcast in the entire world that's centered around football cards and most importantly, football cards. I'm your host, John, aka, Pac Nicholson.

And with me as always is Brett, mister Sack Dean Slabs himself. Brett, how are doing? I am well. I'm highly caffeinated at all times because I'd be a zombie if I wasn't adding number three to stacking slabs at HQ. So getting back in the saddle this week after having our baby girl, and I'm ready to talk football cards.

I will say that now more than ever, if there's anyone from Elani that is listening to the football card podcast who wants to sponsor us, like, I will I will every episode, I will wear a Aloni hat and shirt, jersey, whatever merchandise you have, and I'll slam different flavors all episodes. So get at us. We could use the sponsorship dollars, and I could use the caffeine. But it's playoffs. It's playoff time, and I know you got your squad getting ready, to play your rival.

And I know we'll get into it, but I am to the point where I'm just as much as I'm disappointed about my team, I'm very excited to watch some of these, wild card matchups. It's a great slate. So happy playoffs to you. Thank you. Thank you.

Congratulations on the fastest growing football card family in the world. Do you ever signed up for the Patreon yet? I'm pushing it. She's, you know, taking dumps, and she's too worried about, feeds every two hours. But once she gets off that cycle, we're gonna have a little chat.

Yep. And what's a Lani? I you lost me there with The energy drink? Oh, no. I don't know it.

You're not into that? You're not into that yet? Energy drink guy, but I I'm just coffee. I'm old fashioned, I guess. Just being water.

I've got coffee right now in the morning, but it it is the performance enhancer for the afternoon, you know, when you Wow. Yeah. Hit your desk. And I don't wanna make a whole another pot of coffee. I don't wanna go run out and get a cup of coffee, so I'm just I'm I'm slamming the supplementals right now.

Interesting. Alright. I like the fun looking branding. Aloni, sponsor the pod. It does it doesn't taste too much like an energy drink.

It's pretty smooth. No crash. It's it's my kind of upper. Gosh. This is an ad.

This is we should be getting compensated for this, at least for Ilani. Yes. Alright. Episode 29, season three, episode five, twenty nine. Lots of good '20 nines, but before we get into those 20 nines, none of this is possible without our wonderful sponsors at Card Ladder.

The only ones. There is no one else. It's Card Ladder. They're the only ones. You're right.

There is no one else. We're happy to have CardLadder in the fold in a big way in 2026. So shout out CardLadder. Go sign up for the number one platform in the industry when it comes to collection, managing your collection, pricing cards, seeing values, and maybe even shopping for a card or two. Yep.

You know it's a good site when all I have to do is type c in my browser in CardLider, first thing that comes up. Type in honestly, this is peak behind the curtain. CardLider number one, Colston Loveland number two, Caleb Williams stats number three. That's saying something. Ahead of Chase and all the the personal things that you might need.

Let's see. The the real important things. Episode 29. Hall of famers to wear 29. Eric Dickerson, Ken Houston, Morris Badgerow, Ray Flattery, Tommy McDonald.

So some kinda maybe unknown names. Eric Dickerson is one to stand out, and I just have to say, shout out Eric Dickerson. We talked about him a few episodes ago. I I think when we were looking at one of his, tops rookie cards, maybe a little vintage football talk, but Eric Dickerson stats are unreal. He was killing it.

He had four seasons over 1,600 rushing yards, three seasons over 1,800 rushing yards, and the most ever rushing yards in a season, 2,105 in 1984. Five time first team all pro, six time pro bowler, hall of fame, awesome running back, Eric Dickerson. Shout out Eric Dickerson. You know, I I I oftentimes, I wish he would have played for the colts in an era where we were a little more successful. We had zero success.

It was just basically Eric Dickerson. But he is one of those players when it is, you know, there's a doc on NFL Network and he's covered or I get some time and wanna watch some old highlights, I'm always watching Eric Dickerson. He his running style was just absolutely insane. And I we talked about his cards here and there, but he still feels like one of those players that could be appreciated more in the football card hobby. Absolutely.

What other 20 did you write down? You know, when, I had two that came to my brain when I realized it was 29. I'll do the the pull up my heartstrings one first, and that's, Joseph Adai. Mhmm. I think a lot of people when they might think about the cold Super Bowl, they might have thought that Edron was a part of that.

He wasn't. Edron, left in o five the year before, and, we drafted Joseph Adai. So it was a split carry year with Dominic Rhodes and Joseph Adai, and Joseph Adai ended up taking the starting reps. And Adai had a great rookie year, and he had a yeah. There's something.

You're starting running back your rookie year, and you win a Super Bowl. I mean, that's very, very rare. So he's part of that club, and I should have done some research on other backs who maybe were in that club. But, yeah, Dye was was great, and he's not really brought up and talked about too much in Colts' lore history. You know, he doesn't have the prolific stats as a Dickerson, a Falk, or a Taylor, but he he he was a winner.

And his career here ended abruptly, you know, with the Gregson transition. We cut a lot of players from the old era, and he was kind of wrapped up into that and never really found his footing again. So shout out Joseph Adai. I was a big fan of him. And then the other player, that came to my mind as I was thinking of '29 was Eric Barry, man.

Eric Barry was such a fun player to watch. I love a good safety pop. Eric Barry laid the wood. And Eric Barry, you know, he he got diagnosed with cancer, beat cancer, came back, and was all pro that that's his return season. And then, of course, suffered in a key he he signed a a big contract with Kansas City on the heels of this, and heels might not be a a great term because then he tore his Achilles, and it was pretty much over after that.

But Eric Berry, man, loved watching him play in his prime. Yes. Football card podcast. We love safeties. Safeties are awesome.

I put down for the heartstrings one, Tariq Cohen. He had a few electric seasons with the bears. Big piece like, a a good player in 2017 when the bears were really bad, and then he's a good piece in that 2018 playoff team, the last real playoff team the bears have had. So, he's definitely people really like him. Bears fans still really like Tariq Cohen.

Yeah. Just some bad injuries. Ended his career. And then had to shout out to Marco Murray, first team all pro, former rushing leader, and Lagerit Blount. Lagerrett Blount.

You know, spent a little time on the Lagerrett Blount Wikipedia. Remember the college incident, but then going back and revisiting. I was like, oh, yeah. This was awesome. Dude, what was that season where he literally like, he just fell into the end zone, like, three times a game, like, every game?

He had, like, a 100 touchdowns in one year. He had 18 touchdowns in 2016. Jeez. Yeah. Just for the Patriots.

Three time Super Bowl champion like Garrett Blount. Wow. Put some respect on his name. Goodness. With I mean, not really, I guess, a pivotal piece, but he's scoring tighties.

He scored, yeah, 11 postseason touchdowns. And the the man gets in the end zone. So So if we talk okay. This, classification of running back type, this archetype, when I think of Leguerre Blount, I think of, like, you got, like, a Brandon Jacobs, just these monsters. You don't really you don't really see that that type of guy anymore.

I mean, like, Derrick Henry is a beast, and he's one of the greatest running backs of this era. But it it feels like that monster style running back has maybe, grown extinct in a way. Obviously, Jerome Eddas was a part of that, Mike Allstott. That though, I miss those guys. Yeah.

There's no more thunder. The thunder's thunder's out of the league. It's too much lightning now. Yeah. That's I guess Derrick Henry isn't, but he's just so fast.

You don't think of him as that, which is hilarious kind of. Yeah. I don't know. Bring back the bruising running back. Bring back just the the wrecking ball.

And I've I've shouted out Lagerra Blount and Lavie Ambell smoking weed in Pittsburgh. Got suspended. Like, those Steelers teams, someone needs to do a documentary about the Steelers teams during that era. And shout out Mike Tomlin for keeping things together because I'm sure that locker room was insane where you got Levy on and LaGarett rolling up after hot boxing. You got Antonio Brown doing god knows what.

You got Roethlisberger. The saint of the bunch was Ben Roethlisberger. Yeah. Come on, guys. Behave yourself.

Oh, boy. I wanted to show this because I had no concept, and as we're I brought up Eric Barry. I thought to myself, I'm like, man, Eric Barry is such a badass. I I'm not sure I've ever really seen anyone post Eric Berry's cards. So I wanted to just, like, highlight a couple of his biggest sales ever.

We've got his 2017 preferred Eric Berry game use shield patch, one of one. This sold in 2023 for $1,100. So, you know, it it definitely looks like it came right off of a game used jersey. But and then the other one, which we've talked about this set a lot, is his 2010 Mosaic Finest Refractor, which is a PSA 10 pop one sold for 1 k 07/22/2024. Eric Berry might be one it's a rookie card too.

Like, how sick is that? That's awesome. That seems like a good healthy sale for Eric Barry. Yeah. I would if this card went up for auction now, dude, I would imagine this would I don't know.

I think it has all the elements. Rookie card, PSA 10, out of 10, you know, beloved parallel. Mhmm. It feels like this card might do a lot better today, but it got it has me thinking, like, there's so many different ways to collect football players and cards. And I don't know.

Like, these safeties, like, these guys who might not be in a lot of sets and might not have a a huge catalog, like, there there's an I don't know if now is still a time. But, dude, if if if you can buy, like, a card this sick of a player like this and you love the player and it's, like, a thousand bucks, I don't know, man. It just that just seems like a lot of fun and a lot of value. And I'm sure there was a time you could buy this card for probably $200, but it just seems like defensive backs and, like, these defensive guys outside of, like, the the Mount Rushmore guys that we've talked about with, like, you know, Dion, Aaron Donald, now Miles Garrett, which congratulations, Miles Garrett. The best defensive player since Aaron Donald.

I mean, what's fun about being a fan of defensive football, we're living in a moment where we're seeing the great two of the greatest players ever to play defense, which is fun. But, yeah, man, it just the I'm I'm saying all this to advocate for defensive player cards because they rule, and they're somewhat affordable right now. Yes. More love for defensive players. It's never made sense to me, like, from the start of, like, collecting football.

It's like, it can't only be Tom Brady. It's like it like, collecting can't only be based on Super Bowl success and stats, or else then it's like everyone just has to collect Tom Brady. Like, what are we doing here? So it's yeah. It's nice to see other, players getting more and more collected, and then, yeah, it still feels like defense doesn't get as much love.

To me, it's the lack of consistency in sets. Like, even some of those biggest players, like, in Ed Reed, you know, it's not always he's not in every set, so you can't really I don't know. It's just a different type of collecting than I like to do. I like to do runs and, like, group things together. So if I was, like, trying to collect safeties, I'd wanna get a bunch of, like, the same style cards of them together.

But that's harder because then they're in different eras different they're in such few sets, but there's definitely ways there's so many ways to collect. So Quick before we get off this, and we'll get into this further, but in a minute. But just like personally, and you talk about the inconsistency of sets in these players, and I think about my team and the way I collect in in this era, which has been pretty mediocre at best for me as a a Colts fan, The maybe the bet right by Jonathan Taylor to me in terms of, like, favorite players is DeForrest Buckner. But DeForrest Buckner is a beast, one of the best of his position in the league. And, dude, he did he got left out of 24 Prism, and it's like they put, like, Quitty Pay in there instead or they put Tyron Tyron, Taekwon Lewis in there instead.

And then I was looking at the checklist. Like, they put Quitty Payback in who maybe had the most miserable season of all time for the Indianapolis Colts this year, Buckner's not in it again. So I'm just like, you've got a guy who, like, every collector knows who divorced Buckner is, and you just omit him from from consecutive years in a set. It just makes make it make sense to me. I'm just like, this makes zero sense.

Like, this guy is, like, one of our best defensive linemen ever, and he can't make it into a standard prism checklist. And I think it just goes to validate the point of, like, there is not any attention, especially from the manufacturer, on making sure, like, the best defensive players on these teams make it in these checklists. So I think that means if you like these guys and because there's scarcity around their catalog, like, it makes it even more interesting to buy the cards that are available because there's just not a ton of them. Yeah. Yeah.

Who's who's the quiddy pay lobbyist pushing to get him into that's a who makes those decisions? That, I'm very interested in that. I have never there will I will do a project at some point, but there can't be a player that sucks so much but has continued to get Prism appearances than Quiddipay. Like, it's it it just it makes me sick to my stomach, and I'm gonna have some venom when we're gonna talk about Prism. So which people are probably like, oh, he's a Prism sim the Prism guy.

Not right now. It's you can turn heel at the end. Like, John Cena during his, last year, they they tried to turn him heel, and the turn was great, but the what came out on the other side wasn't, and so they turned him back baby face. So even John Cena can turn heel. So I can turn heel on Prism in the eleventh hour, and I'm gonna do it right here.

I love it. I love it. We'll get into the Prism talk in a little bit. One other 29 I wanted to shout out, Super Bowl twenty nine. I had been thinking about doing this for other episodes, but I hadn't hadn't pulled the trigger.

But Super Bowl twenty nine, there's just one thing I wanna highlight from this. So this was Super Bowl twenty nine was in 1995. The San Francisco forty niners beat the San Diego chargers 49 to 26. This was, like, Steve Young's first big, like, Super Bowl that he won. As quarterback, he'd been backing up Montana before that.

The Super Bowl halftime show. It just got me looking into the halftime show, and the halftime show was titled Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye and was produced by Disney to promote their Indiana Jones adventure attraction at Disneyland that opened later in the year. The show featured actors playing Indiana Jones who and his girlfriend who were raided who were raiding the Vince Lombardi trophy from the Temple Of The Forbidden Eye. The show also had performances by Tony Bennett, Patty LaBelle, and trumpeter Arthur Sandoval. So and then the show ended with everybody singing Can You Feel the Love Tonight, the song featured in the Disney film, The Lion King, that had just come out in 1994.

So I'm like, that sounds insane compared to, like, the halftime shows we're used to now for it just to be this, like, Disney Indiana Jones advertisement. So I'm like, let me watch this because this has gotta be hilarious. Actually, a very entertaining Super Bowl halftime show. It was pretty much like a it was like a theater performance where, yeah, there's some singing, but then there's Indiana Jones fighting some bad guys. There's fire breathers.

It was just overall a very entertaining production. Tony Bennett singing just some jazz song that does not fit, like, the the mood of a Super Bowl halftime show. I was I was just thoroughly entertained in it. Bring back halftime shows like that. Bring bring back some more I would do I would do a Disney halftime show that they just are out there, you know, doing a musical number instead of just like because now it's just artists cramming in as many songs as they can to get their streaming numbers up.

So it's gonna be like twenty seconds of this song, twenty seconds of that song. All this shit's going on. It's like, no. Get back to the basics and get the theater kids up there and do a little, do a little number. Shout out the, Coral Gables senior high marching band who was a part of that performance.

And, dude, this is so good. I can't wait to watch this. And it has me it has me oh, man. It has me thinking of a lot of things. Number one, like, how cool would it be if there was a set that has had parallels, and it was just Super Bowl halftime shows.

And it was like, you could just Would collect print print super factor from, like, bears colts? Yeah. Are you kidding me? So then then that gets me into I mean, it's it's tough from our Super Bowl to top Purple Rain in the rain at at a halftime show. I mean, that was pretty epic and iconic.

Outside of Prince, which I don't know it I I don't really wanna the only argument that I could listen to perhaps of, like, which is the best Super Bowl halftime show of all time is perhaps Michael Jackson's. Yep. That one is insane. Like, popping up from the video board at the top, and then he's down on the it's theatrics and MJ in his prime. It's so good.

But are there any others that just stand out to your stand out to you in terms of, like, iconic or ones that you remember? So then glad you asked because I went down the the wormhole last night. Because I was thinking, I'm like, this Indiana Jones one, I was like, when did Michael because to me, the Michael Jackson one, like, started the pivot to, like, superstar headliner halftime shows. But Michael Jackson was actually two years before this Indiana Jones one. So it was like, I don't get how they're like, holy shit.

We just saw what the the future of this, how this can be a spectacle, and now let's go to rock and country Sunday was the next year with Clint Black, Tanya Tucker, Travis Tritt, and the Judds. I don't know who any of those people are. Oh, man. And then we get into the Indiana Jones, then Diana Ross, and then the next year, the Blues Brothers, Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi and John Goodman did a Super Bowl halftime show. I had no idea.

Then eventually, we start getting into, I guess, the first real big we got Boyz II Men, Stevie Wonder, Phil Collins, Aerosmith, and NSYNC in 2,001. That's kind of the first, like, contemporary popping artists. And then you two, Shania Twain in No Doubt, and then you get the infamous Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson halftime show. Yes. Wardrobe malfunction.

Wardrobe malfunction. I all time iconic. Kid Rock was a part of this. Diddy was a part of this. Nelly.

NFL went too far with that one, and then after that happens, they reversed course and went with Paul McCartney next year, and then the and then the Rolling Stones. They go, we gotta rein this in. Oh my goodness. I that's hilarious. Great trip down memory lane.

I'll say in the the modern ones, dude, I loved, I think it was the COVID. I loved the weekends. I thought it was so sick. And I love I love I know, you know, there's certain, demographic of people who said this is the worst thing ever, but the Kendrick Lamar halftime was the best. Like so the we are I think we're we're pro Kendrick Lamar halftime show on this.

And if you're not pro Kendrick Lamar halftime show on this, I don't know what to tell you. Yes. That was a good halftime show. It but it's still getting into the, like I I sometimes it's just like, don't wanna hear twenty seconds of 12 songs. Know.

Give me, like, Purple Rain in its entirety in an electric performance. And I love Kendrick Lamar, but, yeah, Bad Bunny this year, I am a Bad Bunny fan. That'll be Dude, we never talked about this. I'm a Bad Bunny guy too, man. Yeah.

He's sick. So it'll be fun, but I I don't know. I just watch this. I'll when I do the jersey number post, I'll clip out something from this Indiana Jones halftime show because I was dying laughing. Like and this Lombardi trophy that they're, like, stealing, and then Tony Bennett just, like, snapping his fingers, singing this caravan song.

I'm like, what is this? Pure entertainment. So shout out Super Bowl twenty nine. Yeah. And and, also, shout out to old stadiums and stadium names in the air.

That was so formative. Joe Robbie Stadium. We were doing old stadium trivia with my family over Christmas, and this was a trivia question. So it's it's good to see Joe Robbie Stadium getting some some some, recognition here. Old stadium trivia?

Was that an actual actual game or just kinda like We made it up. Made hell yeah. That's a good that's a good family game right there. We'll explore it on maybe a a upcoming episode of the football card podcast. Yeah.

Absolutely. Alright. Three and out. It's time. It's time for our drive.

The the kickoff happened. We have the ball. Three and out. First down. Stadium's buzzing.

Question. What are some of your hobby New Year's resolutions? You know, I hadn't thought about it until I looked at the format and saw this question. And just a topic I'm thinking a lot about now and probably will be expressing it in stacking slabs content or am starting to is just research more and slow down. And the more the more I take a step back before I make a purchase and truly try to understand the story of the product, the the player, the profile of card, the more excited I get about that purchase.

And to me, that's a lot of fun. It's a lot of fun where you, like, dig in and you every piece of information you uncover and you find, like, validates and tells you, like, you should go do this. You should buy this card. And when the card comes, it really completes this whole process. So I am going to try to, and it's hard because cards come at us so fast and we get anxiety and we gotta gotta smash Ben and buy it now.

But I'm going to try to take a step back and and research card more cards more. That's a very good one. I said I need to rip more. I need to be the I need to be ripping more wax in 2026. So I actually I bought a box of a product that we've talked about on this this show, and I'm just gonna rip it.

Just gonna open her up, not through a break or anything. I just wanna rip a box. When that comes in, I'll let you know, and I'll let the listeners know. We'll go live, and we'll rip an early February football product. Oh, that's sick.

Yeah. Just just for the the fun of it, for the love of the game. So, yeah, just, you know, rip a little more wax, and then I put budget, question mark. I've never been a hobby budgeter. I've been I can go by feel, and I kinda know what I'm working with, but I've never put pen to paper or made a a spreadsheet to track it, which I know would probably be helpful.

But I don't know. I feel like that's a just standard New Year's resolution in general of, like, oh, I we need to budget more. We need to we do need to stop spending money on DoorDash and Dude. Uber Eats. Dude.

It's insane. My wife and I got Shake Shack the other day. It was $52 for, like, two burgers, fries. We we probably got a shake in there. But I was like, what?

$52? So, this is the most relatable thing I think that's ever come up on this podcast. So family of three now or sorry. Three kids, family of five. Two, four, and newborn, impossible for us to go out to dinner.

We both don't like to cook, although we do it, but we can't cook five days a week. It's just we won't do it. So the delivery of it all is a huge part of our weekly rotation. Did I it it I have to, like, celebrate when the price of whatever's coming to us is, you know, under $80. It's just it's it's insanity.

But, like, when we sell our cards on eBay because it's the most eyeballs and, like, you have to pay for that exposure with fees and stuff, it's how I feel about the delivery service. It's like, dude, I don't wanna cook. I want this food because it rules, and someone's bringing it to me. But do you couldn't if you, like, look at what you're getting charged for, you're just getting bent over backwards, but you do it. Yeah.

I exactly. It's like, because there is a you're paying for time, your time. Because, yeah, same thing with, like, cooking. It's like after a long day of working, you only have that window of time with your kids too. And so it's like, I wanna be cooking this whole time.

Yeah. No. It's it's a dilemma, but that $52 for two like, I was like, this should be $15. It should be, like, $5 hamburgers, which even that's, like, expensive for, like, a fast food burger these days. Yeah.

All this, and then we turn around and buy thousand dollar cards. Yep. I I will say, though, would love Shake Shack as a sponsor too because that's in my tier one of fast food restaurants alongside Culver's. It's that that, like, group. Mhmm.

Shake Shack delivers so great to it. It delivers very well. Fries deliver well. The burger delivers well. We're big we're big Freddy's household also.

Yeah. Haven't been turned on yet. Okay. Freddy's. Good fries.

Good, like, the thin fries. So yeah. No. We're we're a burger house. We like burgers.

Who doesn't? Alright. That was first down. Second down. What's your Prism 2025 game plan?

And let's just talk a little Prism right here. What do we have a date? Is it the ninth? Is it two days? Is it or is it today, Friday, the release of this pod?

You know, this is my apathy of this product is it caused me to not even care. Yeah. I I and I don't wanna be super negative, but I'm going to be probably a little bit negative. I think there are a couple things that I can't get over. I I cannot get over the fact that this this product looks exactly like an offshoot prism black basketball in the design.

We've talked about that. I just don't think it looks great. Granted, I haven't seen these in hand, but I just don't like the look and feel. And then it was, like, another slap in the face when I saw the the Colts checklist. Of course, you have the rookies, which is which is fine.

But then it the checklist is literally outside of think they I think they brought back Alec Pierce, from his rookie season for the first time, rightfully so, only player in the NFL history to lead the, NFL in yards per catch two seasons in a row. Closed out the season saying pay me, which you wanna see me lose my mind. If we don't extend this guy and get rid of everyone else, I'll lose my shit. Excellent player. You draft the guy and just progresses.

But you they add him back. But it dude, it is the exact same player set at basically, as the previous year, and it's just so lazy. It's Anthony Richardson's in there instead of Daniel Jones. It's like, how do you not put Daniel Jones in this set? Dude, that it just pisses me off.

And it's so lazy, and I know it's the last year, but it it really it it it's given me twenty fifteen tops chrome, tops finest vibes where the sets just suck. And, like, I I am like, I've reached the point where for my own mental health and sanity, even though I've got this monster prism collection of every year, I'm just like, do I just say screw this and, like, sit this out? I don't wanna do that because, of course, I want, like, a Riley Leonard gold vinyl and then, you know, Tyler Warren gold prism, which that might be my exception. But the checklist really pissed me off. It it just sent me on another level where I was like, man, I maybe I should just not even be a part of this.

Yeah. I can see that. I I'm a fan of the bears checklist. I feel like they did well. You got a good one?

Yeah. I think so. They have well, the only thing they're missing is a Ben Johnson card. I was looking I was like, did they do coach cards this year, or did was that one and done? But the bears, the rookies are Colston Loveland, Luther Burton, and Kyle Munungai, all the three the guys that I would want to get.

And then, yeah, Caleb, DJ Moore, Roman Doones, Jaylen Johnson, Cole Komet, Deandre Swift, and then you get Tremaine Edmonds in there, which is fun. Lance Briggs and Julius Peppers are the two, older guys. So 12 is a is a big checklist. I'm not mad about that. I just still don't like the design.

I just don't like how it looks. Like, I'm not excited to, like, own those cards and then I'm like, I don't wanna overpay for something that I don't like how it looks just because Mhmm. It fits. But, like, I don't know. Maybe they'll look different in hand because I feel like I had I had actually, I always like twenty twenty four from the jump.

I was like It's it's one of the best ever, dude. Yeah. They shoulda ended it with 24. It should be over. Yeah.

Agreed. So I don't know. I'll still I'll be watching, but then it's the the I've now done a few of these releases where I understand the threading of the needle of being aggressive to get stuff when it pops up. Yes. But also stuff like the golds, there will be many of them that pop up.

Like so it's the first one's normally an overpay, but then, like I don't know. It's just gonna be interesting to see, like, from those first days, like, what stuff's selling for and kinda trying to find the levels. And, yeah, hopefully, can get some cool cards, but I also, like again, it this design being leaving some to be desired makes me not wanna, like, go as aggressive as maybe I would have for last year. So we'll see. I know once those safe searches start hitting, I might change my tune, but I don't know.

I'm just I just don't feel as hype. Last year, I remember being, like, excited to, like, see these cards and get some of these cards. This year feels a little different. I feel you nailed it where I I my feelings are going from excited last year to obligated this year. And I don't I don't like feeling obligated.

So I don't know, dude. I could get wrapped up and just be like, alright. Let's just do it because I've always done it this way, but I'm hoping I can maybe practice some patience and not, you know, spend money on overpay on some goals and just wait it out. Like, I just don't need I don't need that as and design plus checklist. All those those things matter, and it this matters to me, especially as the last lap.

And I I can tell you, I just I very much wish and this sucks, but I very much wish 2024 was the final year because that to me is one of the best Prism designs of all time. The photos rule, the design rules, the parallels pop. So, again, like, I'm not willing to completely bury this yet because I haven't seen these in hand, but I'm to say I'm disappointed is an understatement. Yes. So on the Panini website, as of recording this on Wednesday, January 7, Panini Prism twenty twenty five blaster boxes, the Hobby Blasters, are going on sale in one hour and seven minutes.

But then the first off the line box and the regular Hobby Box just stay coming soon and don't have a date. Do they say any parallels in the are there any, like, parallels of note, like, chases in the blaster box? In the blaster box, it says look for orange ice prism. So that that must be what people people already have access to that because on eBay. And I'm seeing every other card's an orange eyes.

Yes. That's what this must be. Like, I think you can get some autos in here, some lovely sticker autos, and yeah. But this looks pretty pretty big. I don't know why it's a hobby blaster.

Isn't that retail? You can't be just calling a retail hobby. But it might be maybe they have a hobby blaster configuration. Who knows? But Yeah.

Orange ices might look good for bears cards. Yeah. That's true. That's don't want them. Maybe.

Who knows? Who knows? I might change everything once it comes out. But alright. That was second down.

Positive gain, but now it's third in inches. This is your question. This is your this is your play call. This is a big this is a big third down. Hopefully, we don't have to punt.

I opened up Instagram last night when I had a moment and I was on the couch, and I was met with a one of just the most, incredible spectacles I've ever seen. And if you aren't on Instagram, let me paint this picture for you. It is shine one fifty. It is mister wonderful Kevin O'Leary, and it's that other guy they hang out with. They're they're they're at some fancy fine dining dinner.

And you can see and behind Shine, you see security guard details. So you've got this is literally in a place where everyone is eating. And there's, like, people I honestly looked more at the surrounding tables staring at what the hell was going on with these guys than I did the actual case break. But, you know, as fancy and as hotty toddy as you could be, you had this cast of characters ripping a case of o five, o six Ultimate Collection basketball. And they spent the first half of this live trying to figure out how they were gonna shoot this, and they ended up giving the camera, like, to the bodyguard so we could, like, shoot from above.

I mean, it was unbelievable. But I see all this, and I'm just like I'm just in complete amazement watching everything. It but it has me thinking about a topic on third down for our conversation here. Ultimate upper deck products. Ultimate collection, exquisite.

Obviously, like, they're some of the most beloved, cherished basketball products. I mean, shit. You've got Kevin O'Leary, Shine, and that other guy that they hang out with. They're they're they're using the upper deck brand in these products to basically drive their business, and the Shine index make make make believe prices of cards in this whole charade. But it's basketball.

And I think about it. It's like, well, they're football cards too. And, you know, you see them here and there, but you never we dude, I don't know if we've ever talked really about, an upper deck football card on this. And I'm not saying they're not cool cards, but they just don't have the same same mystique as the basketball side. And I it'll never be that way because you got LeBron, you got Jordan, you got Kobe, all these things.

But you also have Manning, Brady. You got all the guys in football too. So I guess my question back to you here, John, on third down is, do you ever see this changing? Like, do you ever think that more football card collectors adopt ultimate collection or exquisite? One more note is I know, like, a player like Joe Montana, who has a limited playing days catalog, has really cool cards and, like, ultimate collection.

So I see ultimate collection through the lens of Joe Montana collectors a lot of the time on Instagram, which makes a lot of sense. I'm like, if I was a Montana collector, these cards are cool. This is what I would probably be going after. But wanted to air that out there. I I wish I knew what Shine, mister Wonderful, and that other guy they hang out with were having for dinner.

I'm gonna just assume it's it was steak, but yeah. What do you think? Well, yeah. What a production. I saw that on my feed last night as well, and it got me laughing because I just bought the I'll spoil it.

2,006 Bowman Chrome is what the box I bought to rip. Yes. Just a classic. Just a classic. We're super fractor hunting.

We're red hunting. I wanna Priest Holmes red. But I'm like, where should I do this? Should I get a bodyguard and open this at Shake Shack? Just That's it somewhere?

One hour of your what do you think one hour of a contracted security guard cost? We might need to make a video. Yeah. Yeah. I I had the same thoughts too of, like, looking at people behind, and I'm like, how are they explaining this to other people?

And I guarantee the way they explain it is all through prices. I bet they're like, this is a $100,000 box, and we're seeking this $20,000,000 card. You know, like, that's how they justify opening sports cards in a Michelin star restaurant, I imagine, which is just yeah. I'm whatever. It's again, it's a different stratosphere of this hobby than what I'm doing.

But, like, I'm not impressed by opening Ultimate Collection. Like, would be impressed if they were opening some some weird shit. Some an o six Bowman Chrome, for example. Like, open something that you're searching for a cool card not just because you wanna put it in your own artificial index and say it's worth $30,000,000. Mhmm.

But then to your question about Ultimate Collection and football, I was looking because I'm like, I feel like when I think of Ultimate Collection or Exquisite, those huge cards are like the dual Logo men. And, like, granted, they have that overlap of the great like, Jordan, Kobe, LeBron in there. So I'm looking at, like, o five Ultimate Collection football because they have dual Logo Men autographs or shields dual shield autos. Sorry. Mhmm.

But I feel like they just kinda botched the pairings. Like, you got Matt Jones and Mark Bradley. Byron Leftwich, Donovan McNabb. Carlos Rogers, Jason Campbell. Vincent Jackson, Reggie Brown.

Like, these are like, again, if I'm not saying these guys are bad, and if you're, like, a team or player collector, I understand going for these. But they don't have like, if there was Brady and Manning, like, dual shield auto, that would be a massive card. Like, that doesn't exist in here. They put Manning with Edger in, which that's sick. That'd a sick card.

But and I don't know. I'm not well versed enough in all the years in checklist, but to me, like, I don't I'm sure I've seen shield autos, and I'm sure those will continue to as the basketball side does what it's doing, like, those will be desirable on the football side, but I don't know if they have the, I feel like the the pairings that they did in basketball and those pairings hitting, like having LeBron and Jordan together, having Kobe and LeBron to get, like, those are, you know, undoubtedly the best players. So there's something about, I think, that they got the combos right. It's not Jordan and Darko Milichic or Jordan and, like, Carmelo even. It's like, they have the big chase, cards with the players that you want on there.

But, like, I'll if there's a Montana Brady, like, dual shield auto, that would be a huge card. Like, I don't know if that exists. A quick Google search shows I don't think so. Like, I feel like I always see, like, sticker autos of them together, but I don't know. Just that yeah.

I guess I'm thinking if I I when I think about Ultimate Collection and Exquisite, those specific monster cards come to my mind on the basketball side, but those don't exist in my mind on the football side. And maybe it's because I don't know about them, or maybe they just don't exist. Dude, the Matt Jones call out was just that took me back to memory lane, and, I remember seeing Matt Jones step on the fields his rookie season when he came to Indianapolis. And I was like, man, this guy looks just unreal. Like, he this this is the profile.

And then, you know, he just he he he liked some he liked drugs too much. And it just but, you know, he he had he quarterback to receiver, like, he had a lot of He was, like, on the Jags. Right? Yep. Okay.

I feel like I remember the name, but I don't remember. He wasn't in my division, so I wasn't watching him as closely. But that's right. Yeah. He he had a he had a lot of felonies and arrests.

And, yeah. It I hope he's doing alright. Yeah. He he he was a hell of a college player. But Oh, yeah.

First round, o five? Okay. That seems like someone who is it? Who collects the villains? Black Hat?

Black Hat cards? Yeah. Black Hat. This is the perfect player for you. Yeah.

Is being is being an addict make you a villain, though? Or is that Well well, it says here, on 07/10/2008 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Jones was arrested at gunpoint and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance. Yeah. Maybe not. Like, even if it's just drugs.

But gunpoint? Really? Like But yeah. Like, come on. Just let the guy do a little do some drugs.

Come on. Yeah. Who was it? Quentin Jammer who said he got drunk before every game recently? I don't I'd love that.

Yeah. He said he was he was getting hammered and going out there playing quarterback. God. I'm sure. It probably hurts so bad playing in the NFL.

I mean, that is an obvious statement. But during the forty niners bears game, after the bears opened the game with a pick six, I chest bumped with my friend, and I did something to a rib or a peck. I don't know. I've been feeling it for the last week, and that was a a chest bump. I can't imagine some of these hits these guys take and then having to, like, get up and do it again and again and again and doing it every week.

Like, hey. Maybe maybe some drugs would help. Maybe some booze helps to loosen up the body. So Quentin Jammer, whatever. Quentin Jammer, he was a pro bowler, I feel like.

He had some he had some good years. That maybe the best cornerback name of all time. Yeah. Truly. Yeah.

Quentin Jammer as a quarterback is like Colt McCoy, quarterback name. Colt McCoy, quarterback for the Texas Longhorns is the greatest match in in history. He had a great career, by the way. Great NFL career. Longevity backup.

Got a lot of starts. I I mean, he wasn't obviously not like a pro baller or anything, but he he stuck around for a while. Yeah. You get to the second and third contracts. I mean, life is life is good for Colt McCoy.

Life would be good for Colt McCoy no matter what. With the name Colt McCoy, just he should have been better, honestly. He didn't live up to the name. Alright. Third down.

We didn't get it. They stopped us. Guys. We gotta punt. Alright.

Punting. NFL check-in. Team talk. How are feeling, man? How are you feeling?

Let's just get into it. I'll I'll keep it brief. I don't wanna anger who whatever that guy's name, Croup Croup was our listeners who don't wanna hear us talk football. But, yeah, home playoff game. The bears are the number two seed in the NFC.

That's crazy. If, a path to the Super Bowl exists. I'm not saying they're gonna get there, but it's like, just win a home game and you get another home game. If you win that, you're in the NFC championship. Who knows what could happen?

The season seems like there's no clear favorite. Like, I think the seahawks are scary, but then you got Sam Darnold that I'm not convinced. I think he could get rattled. Same thing. Rams, I feel like are really good, and then AFC seems open.

I don't know. It just seems like a a weird year where anyone could beat anyone. And I'm currently in the middle of the emotional roller coaster. Again, this is Wednesday. I feel like when the bears lost to the lions and they didn't look good, I was pretty low.

Like, I was nervous. Like, was like, oh, Green Bay has all the momentum. I found myself in the cope cabinet that I've talked about already with where I was like, you know what? We're still ahead of schedule. This is a magical season.

Then I was like, that's loser talk. We can't be already, like, reflecting on the season. We got a game ahead of us. So just I'm I'm getting back up into thinking, alright. The bears can win this.

I'm getting locked in. I feel like by Saturday, I'll be like, let's go beat the shit out of the packers, even though historically, this is a game the bears do not win. Anytime they play the packers in a big game, they lose. So, like, I have that in my mind of, like, that's probably gonna happen. But then again, it's like, why not?

Why not change the narrative? Why not just go out and win and, like, solidify this as a awesome season? Just winning that playoff game against the packers would be like, if they get blown out by someone else the next week, I can live with that a little easier than losing to the packers sucks. It's always sucked. Like, packers games suck.

They're miserable to watch. The bears don't play well against them even when they win. It it takes an emotional toll to get ready for a packers game. So the fact I have to do it again is like, oh my god. I can't put my family through this for the third time in two months is is brutal.

So I'm excited for Saturday and for it to be over with. Yeah. It's it's already been a long week. I'm just like, come on. Let's go.

Ready to watch this game. I I I can't wait to watch that one. I have absolutely no idea what's gonna happen, and that's those are the types of games I love to watch. The other, there are two games that are a coin flip, which based on spread, there's that game, the other game is the Bills going into Jacksonville, which, again, like, that I you look at that game, and you're like, who do you like, who wins this game? And so I'm excited to watch that one too.

And it it has me thinking, does does anybody have more to gain from a sports card perspective than a Super Bowl run-in Josh Allen. This that would be awesome. Do you think he has that, like, let's say, the Bills Yeah. Finally get over the hump. Josh Allen finally gets over the hump and wins the Super Bowl.

And I know Josh Allen's cards aren't aren't cheap right now, but it it feels like especially people have been holding him for a long time or just, like, waiting. He's so good. MVP. Like, maybe the best player in the league. People are just waiting for this moment to finally happen.

So it just has me thinking, like, is there anybody in the playoffs even close to, like, sports card impact in potentially winning a Super Bowl than Josh Allen? Yeah. I feel like he's the most that yes. That would be the best storyline, biggest hobby impact. Like, I do feel like Trevor Lawrence isn't far behind him.

Just he's a few years younger, but he was, like, first overall guy, had all the hype. And you got Herbert and Stroud in the mix too. I I just I'm just looking through the the sheet here. I feel like those guys are all the, like they were supposed to already be there. They're they had Super Bowls baked in to the price Mhmm.

If you will. Herbert, especially. So yeah. I guess alright. Who what would be the biggest hobby Super Bowl matchup?

It's gotta be Bills on AFC. I would say you know, what what came to my mind immediately when you asked that question was oh, man. That's this is tough. I I I wanna so I don't know if this is the right answer, but my mind goes to the 49ers and the Bills. And it's less player specific, although there are people that collect, there are people that collect Purdy, like our good friend Chris McGill.

But I the the there's very few collector bases is strong in the hobby as 49ers collectors. They're everywhere, and they collect in droves. So I would imagine, like, they would push a lot of things forward. But, yeah, Niners were the first one that came to my brain. What about you?

Yeah. I think it's not, yeah, it's not the Eagles. Because even if the Eagles win again, I feel like people just don't like Jalen Hurts, or they don't want to, like, anoint him as, like, a great quarterback for whatever reasons. I still think Rams maybe on the NFC side with Stafford. Like, Stafford getting a second.

Stafford maybe getting a Super Bowl MVP because he didn't win Super Bowl MVP when they won a few years ago. Like, Stafford versus Allen would be a a big matchup. Like, that would be a more quarterback driven matchup. I feel like the niners aren't like, McCaffrey is as much the niners as Purdy is. You know what I mean?

Like, when they show, like Totally. Two teams matching up, who's the player that they're putting on the ground? Probably. Yeah. It's like a toss-up, him and Purdy, I'd say.

Yeah. A kid'll even. Like, they have they have other, like, superstars who have been with the team for a long time or or faces of the franchise, whereas Buffalo is straight up It's Josh Allen. That's Josh. It's always gonna be Josh Allen on the graphic.

They're not putting Keon Coleman on the matchup graphic. Or James Cook, rushing leader, James Cook. Shout out him. But then Rams, I feel like it's still Stafford. Like, Puka, I guess, is up there.

But If let's say let's run the experiment of Matthew Stafford winning his second Super Bowl with the Rams and this time winning Super Bowl MVP. I this is driven from Chris McGill's post on his McCaffrey and talking about McCaffrey. Like, is he more of a a panther or more of a 40 niner? And I think, like, McCaffrey my response to that to to him was, to me, he's, like, the ultimate split. Like, it's like, I view him as both now at this point.

And even if, like, the forty niners won a Super Bowl, I I still would view him as a Panther too, but I I might be in the minority. But Stafford, even though he won a Super Bowl, was such a line like, Detroit loves him. If he wins another one, like, what do do people remember him as a Ram that then all of a sudden because he won two Super Bowls or and forget about the first part of his career? Like, how how do you process that from a collecting perspective? That's hard because it is like he's really come into his own as a ram.

Like, with the lions, I feel like he was overshadowed by being with the lions. And it was like, yeah. This is the expectations for him to win weren't as high because people, I feel like, understood that he was on the lions and that it was always chaos, and they weren't ever gonna win. And now he's been with the rams for five years, two super bowls in five years. He's made two pro bowls with the rams.

He only ever made one with Detroit. Yeah. I I still think of him as a lion, just from the decade of watching the bears play against him. But if he wins a second Super Bowl with the Rams, Super Bowl MVP, like, I he's he's going into the hall as a Ram? Like, what jerseys he That's that's what the question is is if he goes into the hall winning another Super Bowl.

What's what yeah. That's Yeah. That's it feels like it should be the lions. It's like, that's where you came from. That's what made him.

But, yeah, I don't know. It's like, yeah, where you had more success or where you cut your teeth. What which is the more valuable? I I wanna shout out I feel like some connection with Stafford at this point in my life. As a girl dad of three, he's a girl dad of four.

So, like, that kinda makes me like him a little more. It's like, oh, okay. He get he gets it. So Yeah. Shout out all the girl dads out there, especially if you've got got me four girl.

I've got three, and it's like, Jesus. Four is just, like, next level. But Yeah. When you make that much money, you probably got a lot of help, a lot support, got a chef, got all the things. Just get a little, get getting advice from Philip Rivers.

You know? Just how how do I manage this? The Staffords probably aren't DoorDashing. Yeah. Wow.

Phil I would love to see Philip Rivers looking looking at a DoorDash bill for after ordering out Shake Shack for his family. Oh, boy. $600? Oh. He's just gonna go pick it up himself.

Yeah. Phil that's who Philip Rivers is. He's like, no. I'm just gonna go pick it up. Why would I Exactly.

Get it delivered. Exactly. I I I just one thing I wanna say just on my team front, and I I don't wanna get into negativity or anything else. I just wanna say, I was so fired up to watch Riley Leonard ball out. I love Riley Leonard.

Obviously, it's Notre Dame fan taking my team to the national championship, and then to watch his first start, dude, impressive. And I just think it's like Shane Steichen for all the limitations people said Leonard have, Steichen with Leonard, like, to me, that's a very nice situation to have in your holster if, like, Daniel Jones can't start the season or whatever. But, essentially, that game made it the most apparent that Anthony Richardson is going to be traded. But, dude, it was just so fun even though the Colts lost, of course. But just watching him ball out, like, throw bombs to Alec Pierce, and then give his first touchdown to his dad who who was sitting in the stands, throw it up there.

Like, it was it was so sick. So I I love that guy. Like, he's just everything I I like in a football player. So that was a lot of fun. And I just wanted to end my, like, commentary on my team out on a positive note, and I'm glad Riley Leonard could do that to close out the season.

Yeah. Against the Texan starters too. Yep. Right? That's It a happened against the starters.

Is Riley the future? Is that what what's the team sentiment? I don't think we can go there yet, although I I think he is a is about after seeing what he did there and you've got you for the Colts offense in Steichen, you need mobility at quarterback. And when Jones hurt his fibula, there was no mobility, and so that's when they started to lose. But mobility and Jones, they were unstoppable offensively.

And then Riley Leonard reminded everyone how important mobility is. And, dude, his, like, touchdown run, dude, he just, like, evaded. It was so sick, but I think if you want a if you have a backup on your bench that has a ceiling and then goes out and has an example of performance of almost 300 yards, two touchdowns, and running for a touchdown, like, what more could you ask for? So I think from a prospect perspective, like, it's about as attractive as it as it can be at this point. I don't know if it's the future.

I think a lot of it will rely on the health of Daniel Jones, which they're they're going to bring back Daniel Jones. There's no doubt in my mind, which I'm pro that. I he was phenomenal under Shane Steichen when he was healthy. So, yeah, I I like the op option and opportunity with Jones and Riley Leonard going into next year. So, yeah, we'll we'll see.

Nice. Well, yeah, I was just looking at box score. Alex Pierce, all he does is catch Alec Pierce, all he does is catch bombs. He's about to get paid big time. He is good.

Alright. Just a couple other NFL notes. Harbaugh out in Baltimore. Just crazy to me. It's always crazy when something like this happens when, like, a legendary coach is let go after having success that other teams would kill for, And, like, it just doesn't make sense.

It took in my mind, but at the other on the other side, I get it. Like, when Lovey Smith, when the bears let him go after going ten and six, people, like, point to that as the downfall of the organization for the last decade plus, which is true. But at the same time, I remember when it happened, I was like, this needs to happen. There needs to be new life in this franchise. They had in that season, they had, like, started seven and two and then finished ten and six, so the momentum wasn't there.

But, yeah. I don't know. Without, like, having a clear plan in place, it seems crazy to me to let go a coach that that's is that successful and that good, but I'm not a GM. So what do I know? It's funny listening to the the stories of Ravens fans on Instagram, and just so many of them are, like, celebrating.

Yeah. They're like, we're get out of here. We're and I'm just like, Jesus. Like, dude, I like yeah. And so it feels like they think he outstayed his welcome, which they know more than I do based on them being fans.

But from my perspective, it's crazy that he's hitting the market, and, obviously, the rest of the market is very interested. I think he had seven requests right out of the gates or which there were six six openings. So that means a team with a nonopening is requesting. So and then there's ties. Everyone's tying them to the Giants right away, which makes a lot of sense, but then there's variables to that.

Like, how, like, Joe Shang got is still around and does does, like, Harbaugh wanna enter a situation where the GM could be swapped out if the season doesn't go well. There's just a lot of dynamics, but he is the he he is the big coach watch. It'll be interesting to see where Harbaugh lands because I think any team that needs a coach right now, he's gotta be the number one option. Absolutely. Like, wherever he goes, they're gonna win 10 games.

And it's like for some of these franchises, I, like, I would kill for it would kill for that. Yep. Like, yeah. I'm just looking at his record. A 180 and a 113 overall.

But it but you have those big playoff losses. Yep. So, yeah. I I understand where that frustration comes. But But you have you have you have Super Bowl wins.

Yeah. He he won a Super Bowl. Yeah. And you're a contender every year. People get too greedy.

It's like, you gotta be just because you're not winning 10 Super Bowls, you gotta fire the guy? I don't know. Would you would you, if this was offered to you, that you sign on the dotted line, the Colts will win two Super Bowls over the next twenty five years, guaranteed, or you just take your chances of maybe they win three on their own. Like, you either take the unknown or you take a guaranteed two in 25. I I would take two and twenty five every day of the week.

There's zero it's impossible to win a Super Bowl. Like, it's impossible. And that's why it's so amazing. Like, teams like the Chiefs and the Patriots did Yeah. All they did multiples.

It's it's impossible. So I would if you're Gary dude, I don't expect to win another in my lifetime. So if you're giving me two, I'm like Right. Right. One one in the next thirty years or so it's capped at one.

So I'd be 70 I'd be 70 years old. Dude, I'm taking it, man. I'm taking the guarantee. Over the guarantee. Long as I'm alive.

I have to be alive. That's a caveat. Yeah. Okay. See, don't know.

I what if you that you're then you're signing up to, like, not have a dynasty, to not, like you could just have a fluke Super Bowl next year, and then you know that you've got twenty eight years of nothing with no chances. Dude, the feeling of I know. I that time. And you're sitting there with you've got a shot, pal. I know.

You got a shot. That there is no better feeling than when it's over and you as a fan are a Super Bowl champion as a fan. It you wanna buy the gear. You wanna go to the parade. You wanna do like, I'm getting goosebumps thinking back of driving from Greencastle, Indiana down 70 to get to the RCA Dome after we, you know, maybe had a bottle of Jim Beam on 70 West heading down with our cold shit on.

Dude, it's the best memories of my life. And if I can get a memory, like, going to a parade again, like, sign me up. Like, this it's it's been miserable. So sign me up, man. Yes.

That absolutely. And when the windows open, that's what I keep trying to live in the present of, like, holy shit. The bears are in the playoffs with a chance. Yep. Like, in my bears fandom, there have been, like, five memorable seasons.

And so, like, this is one of them already. Caleb broke every passing record this year. It's already the best literally the best quarterback season I've ever witnessed, which is Did he get to 4,000? He got to, like, three nine five four. Oh, man.

Like, he was, like, 50 yards short of it. He broke the single season yards record held by Eric Kramer Okay. In 17 games. But yeah. And he started he's the first quarterback to start back to back full season since some guy Bill Wade in the sixties, and then there was one other guy who did it.

But Wow. Just the fact that the bears have a quarterback and a coach feels feels good and a young core. I'm excited. But as soon as I slip into the, like, the future is bright talk, that's loser talk. I need to be focused on the present.

Like because you never know when you're you're gonna get back. Like, look at the commanders. They go to the NFC championship. It's like, alright. Next year, they'll be right back here.

No. Shit happens in the NFL. Injuries happen in the NFL, unfortunately, but I'm feeling good. I'm excited to watch a bears playoff game. It has been a while.

The last one was 2020 on Nickelodeon. COVID COVID year, the bears went eight and eight, somehow got in and, like, got their ass kicked. It wasn't like there were no expectations there. And I remember that. I remember watching that in my old house.

It's a great visual there. Mitch Trubisky went in the MVP as they lost from the fan vote. Like, that that wasn't a real game. Like, there was no crowd. So 2018 is the last playoff game, the double dorink.

Again, it's just, historically, heartbreak for bears fans in these moments. So part of me is prepared to that, and I can go to the coke cabinet when I need. But right now, just go beat the packers at home. You can do it. I I wish you the best, man.

Make sure you're watching the game at your house. Yes. I will be. Alright. Should we run through some sales real quick?

Yeah. Let's hit it. So the first sale shout out Card Ladder for sponsoring Market Watch. We got the 58 Jim Brown, Jimmy Brown as they have on the card fullback PSA eight. This card sold for $19,775.

Iconic football card, iconic vintage football card. And the reason why I wanted to bring this card up is because this topic has been swirling on swirling around in my brain about just, like, the iconic nature of baseball cards and vintage baseball cards and how it just hasn't quite got there yet with football or maybe even basketball. And but this card, this Jim Brown certainly is when you think about that era of collecting and cards that maybe is the most recognizable card of the bunch. So it this is a pop 02/2002, and it's selling for 20 k still. So I think it's cards like this that might pull people into that category and maybe help give it some strength as we move forward.

Because we we've we've talked about vintage football cards way more than I anticipated on here, and the more we talk about them, the more interested and excited I get about just the history of football. And like I've said a lot of times, like, I will watch if I've got free time, I'll watch all the old documentaries on NFL Network if they're playing. And but I've never thought about, like, taking what I'm learning there and applying it to cards. But I don't know. That there seems like a lot of of fun you can have there in an area that's not completely gassed up yet.

Yeah. This is an awesome card. Legendary card. It now has me looking up, though. I was like, is there a 10 of this?

There's not a 10, but there are six nines. And a nine has not sold since 2017. And in 2017, sold for $336,000. Dude, car ladder has it at 914 car ladder value k. Yeah.

So, like, I would love to see a nine hit auction because that could pull that could push a million dollars and, like, bring some vintage football, I feel like, into the into the forefront. Dude, look at that copy of the nine. Dude, look at the centering and look how clean that card looks. That's awesome. That's a cool card.

And six of them. Let's see. Let's someone get that to auction. Get a little Jimmy Brown up. Sell it.

I wonder if there's alright. There's a BGS nine. S GC's highest is an eight five. So, yeah, no gems across all the grading companies. That's that's a sick card.

Alright. We're gonna stay around the same lane here. Another recognizable card. Yeah. I wanna kiss you.

I was in care of where it's drag on me. You've got the 65 tops Joe Namath PSA seven selling for 15 k on eBay via best offer on December 30. But, again, like, you will go from the Jim Brown to the Namath. Like, these cards look cool. Like, these are cool looking cards.

Yeah. There's something to it of the vintage designs. I feel like designs have gotten too futuristic or, like, trying to be futuristic, and sometimes you gotta go back. Like, give me a nice clean like, this set, like, this kind of layout of just block colors, big text, but, like, yeah, add some shine to it. A super factor of this.

Are you kidding me? Oh, dude. Finite? That would be awesome. Hopefully, Tops has taken notes.

Yeah. Because, like, Prism, I feel like, has, like, the robotic metallic feel, which I do like. But then sometimes I don't know. I think I'm this is all stemming from me just not liking 2025 Prism for the work of it. I'm like, if you would've just made something that looks simple and clean, I'd like it more than whatever the hell they're doing right now.

Alright. We are moving over to a quarterback that was mentioned so far. The rookie '21 Trevor Lawrence gold vinyl PSA eight sold via auction on eBay via MC Sports cards for $9,700. Big card one of the bigger cards of Lawrence who's having his best season, who's in a really good spot going into the playoffs. But I see 9,700, and based on just Lawrence sales historically, this is the type of card, like, if I gave a damn about Trevor Lawrence that I'd probably be going after.

Yeah. And I'm not saying $9,700 is chump change. It's certainly a lot of money. But I was kind of shocked by how low this was based on him having a shot at a Super Bowl and this, to me, being one of his best rookie cards. Yeah.

This is I was blown away by the sale price, and this was two days ago. So this is after the season, and didn't he he threw 30 some touchdowns. Right? He had, like, a good His past year, man. Yeah.

29 touchdowns. Yeah. $9,700 feels very cheap. At one point, this card sold for $33,000. ABABGS85.

So his rookie gold vinyl has sold three times. BGS85 for 33,600 in June '23. Then in March, looks like the same card sold for 14,000. And then and this year, 2021, is notoriously off center and bad grades. Like, Justin Fields is a rookie, I think, yeah, this year.

Yeah. That seems like it makes me wanna look up, like, what's a Justin Herbert rookie gold vinyl sell for and just, other quarterbacks. I can't imagine, like, Herbert's 2020 gold vinyl is under $10. So that seems like a a good win. I'll say this about this card too.

In 2021 isn't my favorite design, but it's fun sometimes. Like, a parallel, like a gold vinyl can, like, make you lose sight of the design. But I just think this this picture, this image of Lawrence in this pose is really good. Like, this is a really good looking rookie card. That is very cool.

So a Herbert sold in September a gold vinyl b g s eight for 16,000. Okay. So just there's a there's a reference point for you. That's that's even I don't know. I'm just, like, so skewed on, like, prices.

Like, what's a Jaden Daniels '20 24 gold I bet that's sold for some insane amount. Two we're we're 20,000. Jaden Daniels 20 k in December. We are about to see and granted this year's quarterback group is certainly not as good as the previous year, but we're about to we're about the there's gonna be some comedy here with the with the with the flip culture and trying to position these finites and gold vinyls as just like I can't wait to see some of these prices out of the gates. Yeah.

There's it's Bad design average. Like, tie I know there's some excitement around Tyler Shook, and he's just, like, the first player, like, come to my came to my mind. But, like, dude, his gold vinyl hits the hits the, Instagram stories from flipper culture. What's what's that thing being listed for? Yeah.

That's that's gonna is there anyone else in this rookie class that's really feeling Ward. Ward. Jackson Dart. Dart. Dart and Ward.

Yeah. Well, that'll be interesting to see, but it's not like, 20 the 2024 class is shaping up to Yep. Really be something in the long run. So Maybe one of the best ever when it's all set. I mean, it's off to a very strong start.

Yeah. What else we got? Alright. We've got a o seven finest Calvin Johnson gold refractor, which this is a population PSA 10 population five. It's an all time high here.

Awesome. This card sold for $3,840, which is up a couple $100 on the on August sale of this card. But this is talk about cool rookie cards. O seven finest isn't my favorite design, but I always love seeing this card with the rookie badge at the bottom, Johnson catching the ball kinda over his shoulder. Just sick rookie card.

Yeah. This is this is awesome. Calvin was so good. O seven finest yet, not my favorite, but the golds are very shiny. These are very, very shiny cards.

And the rookies have, like, that gold border all the way around, which is cool. The veterans, it's just on one side. So get some extra gold for the rookies. Alright. Final card.

This card was too cool to pass up. It reminds me of my childhood, which is the 89 score supplemental BoJackson football and baseball card. He's he's it's listed as a Raiders card, and he's got his shoulder pads off with his shirt off, but he is posing like he's getting ready to hit a home run. This is a BGS 10. It's sold at auction for $1,920.

Just such an awesome card. That's awesome. I think we've said it on here before, but I wanna see give me another two sport athlete again. These kids are too focused on one individual sport. I need to see someone going pro at baseball and football, playing playing two games in the same day, flying across country.

We're due. We need that. Give me a give me another superstar like Beau. Yes. There's your list of cards for the week.

Alright. Moving along. Collecting updates. Any anything? Any new pickups, or what what what are you up to in the collection?

Nothing go nothing shaking. Nothing going. I'm plotting my, participate or don't participate in the new Prism. That's about it. What about you?

Some random pickups. I got my Bohman Chrome box. I ordered that, so I'll open that when I get it. I got a 2016 prism gold Willie Snead. Oh, Snead.

Fantasy legend. Well, Ball State alum. I have his with that. Yeah. I have his '16 I had his '19 prism gold already.

He's on the Ravens, but I just had a save search. Like, I love when a save search like that pops where it's like, Willie Sneed gold prism, one. I click it. $15. That is it?

Yeah. That's the best. Ben. So, like, that that was a a good win. And then I got some random priest homes card.

Some quant 2,000 quantum leaf infinity out of 25 priest homes. $10. It's sad I know exactly what that card looks like. Fill a binder page. Who knows?

So got those. But, yeah, other than that, I kinda kinda recouping from the holidays and just like yeah. Like, let's see what this Prism release is all about. Let's see if if something else pops up that that I need. But, yeah, that's that's it.

Awesome. That was a that was a fun one. What's the card call out? Card call out. Last week, we asked to see heal cards.

This week, we're gonna see let's see some playoff heroes. So any player that it doesn't have to be a Super Bowl winner. It could be someone who just had a one big playoff game or a big playoff run that you'll always remember. Just cards of players who had big moments in the playoffs for your team or just if you root for them and they had their own personal big moments in the playoffs. Let's see, I can't believe we made it to the NFL playoffs.

We started this pod in the summer, and here we are. We are on the the precipice of the playoffs. So to celebrate, let's see those playoff heroes. Send those cards, pictures, tag the football card pod on Instagram. We will re reshare, and we'll see you next week.
