The Football Card Podcast #25: Big Sales, New Stakes, and Philip Rivers is Back in the Saddle [Season 3 Premier]
Hello, and welcome to the Football Card Podcast. This is it. This is the fastest growing podcast in the entire world that is centered around football cards and, most importantly, football cards.
I'm your host, John, aka Pack Nicholson, and with me, as always, is Brett, mister Stacking Slabs himself. Brett, how are you doing? It's it was a long night for me. I had the old, kid get sick in in the bed, last night.
So it I am I've got my coffee. It's like every December, the children just, pass sicknesses back and forth. My kids are young. They're at daycare. So there's a lot of that going on. So yeah, man.
It was it was a doozy, but I there's a there's so much going on with my team, with football cards that I knew that while I was going through this agony of not sleeping, and my child was sick, and she's, I think, on the mend right now, that I had this conversation to have.
And it it it gave me a lot of energy. So after this episode, I'm gonna probably crash. But for now, I'm I'm here. I'm ready to go. Wow. I'm jealous.
I'm on the road for work, and there's no coffee. Well, so I'm on the West Coast, so it's quite early. The coffee maker in my room doesn't have any coffee, and the coffee downstairs doesn't open for another, like, forty five minutes.
So Oh, gosh. I'm in desperate need of some sweet, sweet calf, but we're gonna fight through it because that's what we do at the Footballcard Pod. We're gritty.
We fight through it to bring you guys this content. It's 06:30 local time in the morning for John, so make sure you, maybe maybe send him a cup of coffee as a thank you if you're enjoying, this episode. Take an extra sip for me.
Pour a little out. Pour some scalding coffee out. Yeah. Because, like, I had it all planned out. I was like, oh, this is gonna be great. I'm gonna wake up, get ready, make a cup of coffee in here, and record this pod.
And then ten minutes before we start recording, I I go to make the coffee. No coffee. What are you doing? What's the hotel you're at right now? I'm at Hilton. Come on, Hilton. What are we doing? Come on. Yeah.
Season three. Season three premiere. We we're cranking through seasons. This is the season three is, like, we have to prove it season. Mhmm. Because it's like the rookie season, you know, it's all the Peyton threw 27 interceptions.
Year two, still be working out the kinks, the Josh Allen year. But then year three, it's like you gotta take the as they say, you gotta take that step in year three or else we know what you are.
So, some pressure's on us, Brett. I feel very confident based on the organization, the structure, the the approach that we are going to win this season.
And we're gonna win in a big way. And this show, which has turned from a niche show about football cards and football cards, is going to turn into something really big.
And it might not be quite hold up the Lombardi big, but we're going to show the community that we mean business.
So I have full confidence in in what we have here. We're we're eyeing a division title this year. You know, the the offense is starting to look familiar.
We know the playbook. We've got we've got card ladder as a, sponsor again, and perhaps we should start in anything we wear. Car ladder team, send us some patches just like on the NBA jerseys.
There's, like, a a patch, and we'll start ironing on car ladder patches to our gear, for every, episode. Like, debut logo patches and then football card pod cards? Yeah.
Now we are cooking with gas. This is more than just the show. It's a brand. It's a movement, and you are all a part of it. Yeah. That wow. The difference between game worn and event worn for podcasters. Just are you recording or not?
Is the microphone on? Alright. It's game worn. Nope. Just prepping. It's event worn. Oh, boy. Damn. Yeah. We should've got some debut patches for season three debut. We'll do that for season four. We'll have Yes.
Card letters, stick with us for another c I I I believe they'll be on board for season four. So, we'll we'll we'll get those, and I'll I'll have a chat with Christina. Christina makes everything happen on that team, by the way.
Yes. Shout out card ladder. Shout out, Christina. Shout out yeah. But shout out card ladder. If you don't use it, what are you doing? There's nothing else. There's no alternative out there. Get on card ladder.
There there's no alternative. And if you think there's all an alternative, spend a spend a little time with card ladder. Like, whatever you're subscribed to, get off of it because the Football Card podcast told you so.
Stop using that other product and start using card ladder. It's simple. Alright. Season three episode one, which for the math whiz is out there in twelve episode seasons means this is episode 25.
Twelve twelve one. 25. 25 is a light hall of fame number. We got Fred Belintikoff, Frank Kennard, Tommy McDonald, Walt Kesseling, and Norm Van Brocklin.
That's it for hall of famers to down 25. So what jumped who jumped but the but there's a handful of good 20 fives out there and some great talking points.
So who jumped out to you? It wasn't Norm Van Brockland, although I do have his 51 Bowman, PSA DNA certified autograph. He up on the screen. What a amazing autograph. In this description, I'm just noticing this.
They have the the description, and then they just put died 1983. Pop seven rare. I mean, talk about talk about a description there. But, yeah, cool card. It's a little vintage. Little vintage football?
Yeah. Little vintage football talk. Wow. Yeah. The the died 1983 disclaimer. It's like, are you trying to get a eBay one of one situation going, like a jersey number, death year number, release number, lineup, something like that?
I guess it's valuable information. It is. So that's a cool card. But who stands out to me? You know, first player that came to my mind was Richard Sherman. And Richard Sherman was just such a dude for such an era.
And the Legion of Boom is a, we haven't had a legion of boom since the legion of boom. Correct. And so Sherman to me was, just such a interesting player because he wasn't quite like he wasn't like Rivas.
He wasn't like Champ Bailey. He was kinda like his own thing where it was like and this is the way he played in this zone, the way he operated was very unique.
But one of the best stats that I saw from Richard Sherman was that he had a 94 game streak without giving up a 100 yard, receiver, which Wow.
Is special. Also, I did spend some time looking up some photos of, Richard Sherman and Andrew Luck together at Stanford.
There was some overlap, so that's kinda fun. Mhmm. And then all pro, he was three time first team all pro, and two time second team all pro. So five total all pros for Sherman. Obviously, now he's in the media.
You get to hear from him, which I I enjoy hearing from him. There's not many players that I enjoy their commentary. He's one of them. I I really think he does a nice job. So Richard Sherman is someone who I wanted to call out.
And I also wanted to just to mention a sentimental favorite, number 25, Marlon Mack, which for any Colts fans out there, there we saw Mack, and there's there was a lot of potential, but, you know, tore his Achilles, which that's a tough subject now that we'll get to in a minute.
And then he tore it again later on in his career, and that was pretty much the extent of it.
But I've got some cool Marlon Mack cards. I've got, you know, his gold prism, his gold vinyl, his rookies. So, yeah, I wanted to give Marlon Mack some love.
What about you? Marlon Mack, a thousand yard rusher in 2019. There's Yeah, man. You know, it's just worth noting. If you ran for a thousand yards in a season in the NFL, like, that's an accomplishment.
And here at the Footballcard Pod, that's worthy of being collected. Yes. Pull something like that off, And 900 yards the year before. So he was a steady little back there for a few years.
And Richard Sherman, legion of boom. Yes. We have it's great when there's a defense that is, like, the the main character. I guess, maybe Houston is starting to become that, the Texans.
Our Pretty much. Identity is the dominant defense, but Legion of Boom was unreal at that prime and always brings me back to the biggest sliding door moment in NFL history is the interception at the goal line.
But, like, they win that game and the Seahawks have gone back to back with that defense, and, like, they just look like a totally they look like a dynasty, and Brady doesn't win his fourth ring.
And it's like, who knows what happens with the Patriots if they ever, like because at that point, Brady hadn't won in, like, ten years.
So it was it's a big big changing moment in the NFL history. But That that moment, and I gotta be careful because, my team, which is on the ultimate skid, is going to Seattle this week.
So I I don't wanna be very mindful of the words I use, so I don't wanna, like, put the ultimate hex. Although, we've already been hexed, so it's like, what else? Maybe I'm playing with house money here.
But what is stupid play? What is stupid play call? Like, liter like, I know everyone said it, but and we talked about beast mode last week, but to not put the the ball in his hands in that moment just I'll never understand it.
Yeah. It's like, I I have a fresh experience with, fourth and short situation or I think it was even, like, second down though in the Super Bowl.
It was early in the downs. It wasn't fourth down. But, when you're just a team is running all over the other team and you just need one yard to continue a drive and you you get cute and throw instead, you know, some but, hey.
If it works out, everyone no one would be criticizing it. They'd be saying what a great play call. But, sometimes you just gotta run the damn ball. I think that's the moral of the story here.
Final thing on the Legion of Boom, which this has never been talked about. I did a cool cards this week for the Patreon group, and I found a, forgive me on the collector's name who posted this.
I kid's not ringing a bell because I'm just thinking about this now. But there are inserts in twenty fourteen prism, and they have a legion of boom insert.
And the card was the gold prism legion of boom twenty fourteen prism insert, and it's the Legion of Boom, the four guys you think of vertical on that card, which is vertical, but the same design.
It's almost Yeah. Yeah. The car is horizontal. Horizontal. Sorry. Excuse me. But this looks so sick. Yeah. Yeah. So I just wanted to call that out. That's a great did did other teams get that treatment?
Like I there had to be. They couldn't have just been the only one, but I that's something I meant to look up, but didn't realize we are going to be talking about it. Yeah. That, I won't spend too much time.
I was just doing a quick glance. Yeah. I'm sure there's god. There's so many inserts in some of these sets. But, yeah, I've seen that card. That is an awesome card. If I were a Seahawks collector, I would for sure want that.
It's, like, got me thinking, like, who would what what if the Bears? They didn't really have an identity in 2014. They were collapsing. Mark Tressman was ruining the organization.
So I think there's nothing there. Twenty fives for me. Gotta shout out, Kyle Manunguy, current Bears running back. He's becoming a fan favorite, hard runner, was dominant at Rutgers and then just, like, falls in the NFL draft.
I feel like that is a constant thing that happens where, like, a college runner who puts up spectacular numbers often then just, like, they don't take him seriously in NFL.
I think of Cam Scataboe too. Like, what he was so sick in college, and then for some reason, runs a slow 40 or whatever the reason might be. Like, I know 40 speed matters, but does it?
Like, how often is a running back, like, truly breaking away into the open field where they're having to outrun an entire defense. I guess if you're that fast, it leads to those moments, but I don't know.
For the most time, it's like, just give me five yards. I don't care if you don't hit 20 miles an hour. This is a topic that I've thought about for a long time because I'm one who studies kind of the the draft and follows the content.
And there are so many times where, like, a player will be, like, rounds ahead of someone else with zero production, but all about potential.
And then you got the combine going on, and that rises people up. Think about Zach Wilson. And there's a million examples of these.
But then these guys get lost in the shuffle as you're suggesting here. This is what we needed, what we're recommending. Although, it's going to hurt the economy of my city, Indianapolis, that hosts the combine.
But what if for one year, we got rid of the combine, we got rid of all of the, pro day stuff, and these NFL scouts just had to pick guys based on their performance in college?
What would what would result would would teams end up with better teams, or what would happen there? That's interesting. Yeah. It's like the the period between the end of the college season and draft day.
And as a recent draft lover over the past few years where I'm, like, very much in tune with the process and paying attention because my team is in need of new picks.
You there's just so much time to either talk yourself into or talk yourself out of any player.
What's his yeah. Wilson is a great example. Like, he had just that one throw during a pro day, and everyone's like, holy shit. Zach Wilson is next. Because did you see this throw?
Which I understand. I understand getting super hyped about a throw and, being like, well, what if he just does that in every game? So yeah. But just based on college performance, I mean, the Bears would not have drafted Mr.
Bisky. I'll tell you that much. Dude went seven and six in one year in college when you had Patrick Mahomes throwing for, like, eight touchdowns in a game. Not mad about it.
Or Deshaun Watson. I mean, I wanted Deshaun, but whatever. Yes. Based on college performance would be an interesting case study to look at. Another 25 I have to shout out of just similar runner to common guy, Garrett Wolf.
He was a Bears running back, kind of a change of pace back for the Bears back in the day. And then through that, I got a shout out AS cards, just a Garrett Wolfe super collector. I love seeing people who collect like this.
Great great collection. Collects a lot of cool, Chicago stuff, so shout out AS Cars. I actually yeah. I helped him land this, super fracture because I remember actually, this was, like, a double hockey assist.
I believe it was bench chair. Yeah. Yeah. Danny Modest card collection, like, sent me this card and was, like because it was, like, a $100.
I was, like, oh, shit. That's cool. But, like, I actually know a guy who or, like, I know of a guy who collects Garret Wolf, so helped him land this card.
What a sick card. This card is this is the 2,007 top finest Garret Wolf super fracture we've got up on the screen we're talking about. And we're gonna be talking about super fractures here in a minute, but this card is incredible.
It it I haven't seen a lot of o seven super fractures from Finest, but this I mean, it he look, he is floating in gold, and you've got red borders with Garrett Wolfe, RB, Chicago Bears on the side, the red borders, and then the rookie badge at the bottom.
This card rules. Yeah. O seven finest doesn't really always get a lot of love, but the golds are very, very shiny, and, these super factors look incredible.
But, yeah, I've always wondered, like, the fall off of o seven finest. It's just not not nearly as desired as o five, o six, o two.
But shout out Garrett Wolf and common on guy. Then I had Norman Van Brocklin on here too, because first, I looked up his highest card sales, and it was, I think, the one you had pulled up.
Yeah. $5. Auto. $5. But more so, I just love looking at interception numbers from guys who played in this era.
I always think it's funny. So Norman played quarterback for the Rams from 1950 to '57 and then three more years with the Eagles. But here's his interceptions per year. Eighteen, thirteen, fourteen, nineteen, twenty, 15, 16, 24.
Like but if you go back, a lot of quarterbacks in this era are throwing tons of picks. They're these guys are just out here chucking the ball around. They're just just guys being dudes, guys having fun, throwing the football.
And it kinda got me thinking like, yeah. Maybe we take the game too serious now. We do. We're like, it's We do. If you don't complete 80% of your passes, you're terrible.
And if you throw an interception, you're the worst thing ever. It's like back then, they're chucking three in interceptions a game. They're just they're chilling. They're having fun.
Even, like, I'm, like, I am not too old to not remember the excitement of watching, which this might be because you're a Bears guy, but just the excitement of, like, being on watching Monday Night Football and seeing Brett Favre was gonna play.
Because you knew he was just going to chuck it all game, and he would hit the end zone three times, and he would throw two picks because of it.
And no one criticized him publicly for throwing the two interceptions. It was just like, oh, wow.
Like, he's he's driving the ball. He's taking chances. Like and he squeaked out a game. Like, that that wasn't too long ago, and now all these nerds are just overanalyzing every freaking throw that these quarterbacks make.
And it's the the the media around these quarterbacks specifically and the analytics and driving home and ranking them, it is the most annoying thing in the entire category of football right now.
No question. Yeah. Brett Favre, that's a great call of just, like, his PR team spinning interceptions into a positive for him somehow. All the time. It was like it was like, yeah, dude.
It means he's a gunslinger. It means he's throwing the football around. What do you expect? If you throw the football 600 times a year, yeah, you're gonna throw some picks, but you're also gonna throw some titties.
So sit back and enjoy the show. Why aren't we complaining about? That's that's exactly right. And then oh, then I got I wrote down a note. Can you imagine Ed Reed in 1960?
When these guys are throwing 20 picks a game, are you kidding me? He'd leave the league in touchdowns. He would. He would have 20 interceptions in a year if Ed Reed played it. If Norman Van Brockland's dropping back, Ed Reed's covered.
Yeah. Can you imagine, Ed Reed playing in a like, with the leather, like, leather helmets and, like, those guys, like think about, like, the center trying to, like, run aft in a leather helmet, trying to run after Ed Reed.
It's just a hilarious thing. Wouldn't happen. The Ed Reed's one of those like, you could put Ed Reed in today's NFL.
He'd still be good. Oh, yeah. Like, he's, he's a rare one. Definitely. Ed Reed. We're a pro Ed Reed podcast. So very pro Ed Reed. Love that. Two other 20 fives, Shady McCoy and Jamaal Charles. That's a great pair of backs right there.
And, yeah, the the Kansas City pipeline of Priest Holmes to Larry Johnson to Jamaal Charles is pretty sick. And then even Kareem Hunt to a lesser extent. I think there's a little gap between Charles and Hunt, but Mhmm.
Some dynamic backs with big fantasy numbers. But and then Shady McCoy, he's gotta get in the hall eventually. I feel like he has at least yeah. He has 15,000 scrimmage yards on the dot.
It's a pretty pretty sick career. Two first team all pros led the league in rushing in 2013, and the the snow game. I just feel like I'll always remember that snow game where he broke off some touchdowns.
But, yeah, '25. Actually, a good little turnout. There's there's always Who's career do you like whose career do you like more between McShady and, Beast Mode?
Oh, I I think Beast Mode. Yeah. Marsh I love Marshon. He was like, his personality, everything had and the moments he had again, like we talked about, he had the playoff moments.
Except I didn't realize Shady has two Super Bowl rings. He won with the Chiefs in 2019 and then the Bucks in 2020. Like, no zero statistics in any of those playoff games, but he was on he was on the team.
He had he was a glue guy, locker room guy. Sometimes it's helpful to stick around or take a long hiatus and come back. More on that in a little bit.
Oh, wow. I can't wait to talk about that. Episode 25, though. We've got a good one for you. Shout out card ladder. Let's talk about a a big sale. Should we? Yes. We should. So A newsworthy topic. What do you think?
Yeah. So I put out an episode on Tuesday, and one of the segments was all about the 2,005 finest Tom Brady super fracture die cut one of one PSA authentic selling for $704,550 on golden this weekend. I have shared a lot there.
I have been thinking about this sale, and I wanted to I I felt like we couldn't do this episode without bringing it up, but I wanted to bring up this topic and get your perspective on it because you are someone who has been collecting in the February February for quite some time.
And, you know, this is a space where a lot of collectors have really enjoyed because the nineties are expensive.
The ultra modern stuff is expensive, but this area has been an area, as you've referenced, you collect your running backs, spend 50 to a $100 on a card, and really enjoy it.
And you look at it at the surface level, and you've got Brady, Brees, Manning, Rodgers, Ladain Tomlinson, a quarterback that we're gonna talk about in a little bit.
Most of their cards are all in this era, or a lot of their cards, a lot of their cool cards, but there hasn't been this moment. And so this is, like, the tentpole moment as I'm viewing it for this entire category of football cards.
So that's what I wanna I want your perspective and why I wanted to bring it up here is just to get your perspective on, like, when there's a sale like this this big, what sort of impact or lasting impact can it have on a category of cards that people really enjoy, but people really enjoy them because it's been relatively affordable in comparison to some of the other, decades?
Yeah. I think a sale like this sold for $704,000. That's crazy. That's a massive sale. So for reference, just 2,005 finest, football and basketball. This is the highest selling card by a wide margin.
The next step would be the LeBron o five finest Super Fractor that sold in 2021 for 336,000. And then this seems yeah. Alright. So basketball, a Kobe Bryant sold in December 2023 for 78,000.
Mhmm. But that's called a gold super fracture one of one. And then there's also a regular Kobe super fracture one of one that also sold for 75,000. I didn't know that they had, like, a gold Superfractor and a regular Superfractor.
That's interesting. But for Kobe's to be selling for the 75, LeBron 300, and then Brady 700. Like, normally, the basketball is much higher, but I guess finest has become more of a football product.
But, oh, all that to say, this not only being the highest selling o five finest card of all time, but to blow everything away is pretty impressive. I think it shows just like this this one of one rush, boom, one of one boom.
I don't know what we're calling it. I don't know if that's a thing, but it just seems like one of ones have become more and more, like, targeted mainstream too.
You know? Like, I imagine a rare if a if a card like this of Kobe or LeBron hit the market again, I'm sure it would do record numbers.
But I think this will bring more attention to this era, and that's kind of always how I thought about it of, like, Jordan helped elevate nineties basketball and brought attention to nineties basketball, Brady is that for football.
And he had his prime years well, he had a lot of prime years, but early two thousands.
And then, like you said, with Manning and those other guys, like, to me, it always made sense of, like, eventually, people will be, like, thinking about this era of football the way that they think about nineties basketball.
And I feel like we're seeing that really start to unfold a little more and gain more attention because, yeah, this is a card that two years ago, I don't think sells for close to, like, half this. I don't know. It just seems like yeah.
There's there's new eyeballs. There's new blood. There's new money into this segment for sure. I I think one of the things that I is important to talk about and wanna get your perspective on it is the first of it all.
And so, you know, understanding the timeline for the super fracture and when the super fracture enter production, I think is really, really important.
This, in fact, actually wasn't the first Tom Brady Super Fractor release. This was his, which I've never seen, is was the, the top's draft picks and pros prospect in the base set.
We talked about it on this podcast. There's a Brady, which has a super factor. I'd recommend anyone wanting to see what one of these looks like, go to Prism Mike PC's Instagram page.
He just posted that he acquired the Brett Favre, which is an incredible card, and congrats to him. But this this is I would I have been calling this the first major super fracture release, which is this Brady's this Brady card.
So firsts are very important. Mhmm. I think that they're undefeated in terms of, like, credibility and desirability. How big of a role do you think the the first of it all plays in this sale?
I'm sure that's a huge factor. Yeah. First and just early. I think people like early just as much not just as much, but, yes, this being the first is huge. It gives some love to o five finest. I love o five finest.
I've always been on the team o five versus team o six. They're both amazing sets. But between the two, I just I like the reminds me of the James Bond opening, like, looking down the barrel, and there's old Tom Terrific running around.
It's this also brings a painful memory of there was a Rex Grossman of this o five finest super factor on eBay a few years ago that I was watching.
I remember that. I was ready to win it, and then I'll never forget. I I was at this work event in Houston with Bun b, of all people. Goddamn it, Bun b.
And I Are you sure are you sure it wasn't Boris from GoldenEye and not Bunby? Yeah. Jaws. And just forgot blank that the auction was ending and missed it. It was a 113, which at the time would have been the most I'd ever spent.
I mean, I don't think I've spent more than a $100 on a Rex card, but I would just love to have one of these with my guys, especially after seeing the sale. But, That's how many years ago was that?
07/08/2023. It it so it's just incredible in that example alone. And this is what happens is people won't make the move to spend a lot of money until they see a bigger card sell and it makes sense for them.
But I think that's fascinating, because I just think about if that if that Rex Grossman went up for auction right now, what it would command.
And I it would be at least five times the price. That would be my forecast, if not more. And it just it just amazes me how, like, a lot the hobby as a whole, like, waits for stuff like this to happen, then takes action.
And I don't know. Like, if you can find opportunities and this one, obviously, like, you were tied up and it sucks you didn't get it.
But, like, if there is something and you see something ahead and it's affordable, like, I don't know. Those to me are the the best opportunities to pounce on cards, like, not just waiting for something to help validate the price.
But, like, you will have to set the all time comp, but it could end up being a percentage of what the true value is, you know, five years from now.
Yeah. Like, already, even before Brady in November, JJ Arrington, both I trying a super tractor, Sold for $500. That that is, like, the ultimate, like, w r slash r b slot in your fantasy lineup on, like, a a an injury week.
Like, let's throw in JJ Arrington, and hopefully, he gets a touchdown. Yeah. He's like a Duke Johnson or, but just that running back who has, like, two good games a year.
It's like, am I gonna get one of those games? I'm pleased with one of those games. I would love to get that Grossman card if anyone is out there. And, I have the because this year, there's also, like, the white frames Mhmm.
Xfractor. I have Kyle Ortons of that. And there's a Rex Grossman sitting on eBay of the white frame, I think, for, like, $200 that I'm like, I want the real thing.
I want that one. Yeah. I want the die cut super fracture. So this card rules, though. I mean, I saw I feel like this the the whole story behind this, this was, like, fat wasn't it all, like I mean, it's great and authentic.
It was, like, super beat up. Right? I think so. It's all scratched up, which I guess adds to its lore and makes it, who cares? It's a one zero one. But Is Brady the owner?
Maybe. That's where my mind went right away. He is involved in the hobby. I mean, I wonder if he has, you know, people being like, you shouldn't I wouldn't be shocked, but that seems crazy for him to drop that money on.
Like, to me, it's like the person who's spending that much money has to have a little bit of, like, hobby crazy in them and can't just be, like, viewing it in a, like, straight analytical mind.
I don't know. Dude, he's I mean, have you seen the the, card vault by Tom Brady, the expansion and the store?
Do you have a card vault by Tom Brady attached to the hotel you're in right now? I wish. He's a little I think he's a little crazy. Yeah. I I I hope we find out who who owns this card.
True. I can't stop opening card card vaults. Yeah. No. That that's a good card. I've it just, though, makes me wonder his $20. 12 finite, what would that fetch in an open market if that were to hit auction?
This now I'm thinking, should should we send, Chris, from CardVault that, a message seeing if we can get, the goat on the Football Card podcast? Yeah. Actually, that's a good maybe CardVault is gonna sponsor us.
There's some plugs for you, Card Vault. I am impressed by their expansion plan and what they're doing. I love the industry side of the hobby, and it's just fun to see stuff like that taking shape.
So keep doing what you're doing, Chris, Brady, and team. Yeah. Grow the hobby. I mean, the more card shops there are in the world, the better for the hobby.
It does all have a positive effect, I believe, on, you know, getting people in this thing. So, yeah, good job, team. Give us a call. Card vault by Football Card Pod. There you go. Lab, or Football Card Pod by Tom Brady.
Oh, man. Could you do that? Omaha Productions involved in this too. Yeah. It's like that meme I saw of, like it's, like, every time I turn on a TV show, it's, like, 10 different production companies.
It's, like, HBO Max, Disney, Pixar Yeah. Searchlight, Warner Brothers, Paramount. And it's like every opening of our podcast is brought to you by Omaha in conjunction with Card Vault by Tom Brady.
And Time Warner. And Time Warner and Netflix. Yeah. Where's our Netflix deal? I don't know, but there's a lot of people on Netflix. And I think if we get on Netflix at some level, like, it's over.
We can retire and just talk about football cards for the rest of our life. Yeah. Can you imagine opening up the Netflix menu and you see football card pod and it's just this?
Like, an hour and a half of two guys on Zoom talking talking cards. No production. Nothing. We if we my main goal would be to try to campaign to try to get placement ahead of Ken Golden and King of Collectibles.
I know their production value, speaking of Omaha productions, is very high. Mhmm. But, you know, that would be the that's the dream. It's like, be right there next to Kenny.
You're next to the kingpin? That's right. The King of Collectibles, which I saw. You know that guy, Khan, who, like, asked people, like, what they do on the street in New York? Oh, yeah. Yep. Dude, Ken Golden has one.
It literally dude, I was blown away. I was like, you gotta be kidding me. Ken Golden got a spot with Khan and, you know, he's he's he did a he whatever you think about Ken Golden, his execution of that interview was phenomenal.
Just in terms of, like, opening people's eyes to collectibles and why people collect and why he does what he does.
It was simple but effective communication. So if you I I enjoy that content and to see the the kinda doom scroll TikTok meshed with the hobby was quite fun.
So shout out King Golden. The man knows how to market. I'll tell I'll give him that. Unreal. He's a pro. There's a reason. He's where he's at.
But, yeah, let's move on to let's get into the NFL check-in. I feel like we got some things to get off our chest, some topics to discuss, and then we'll get in a market watch and get out of here. But, yeah, little NFL check-in.
It's been a very eventful past couple days for Colts nation. We haven't got talked about this off camera at all, so I'm very, interested to hear how you're feeling about the current status of the of the shoe.
You you know, you know the the the meme, drinking the coffee at the kitchen table while everything else is on fire? Mhmm.
I'm fine. Yeah. This is fine. I'm I'm yeah. This is fine. That's me right now. But I wanna start by taking listeners into the timeline of events that I've had in my fandom over this year, and we're gonna then lead us into the Colts.
But this this all started with the, situation last year of Colts quarterback, missing the playoffs once again. And then we took that into a national title game, Notre Dame, Ohio State losing the national title game.
More on Notre Dame in a minute. Then we moved into the Pacers season, which is magical ride, but then ended, like a knife in the chest with a Tyrese Halliburton Achilles tear in game seven of the NBA finals.
And then we move into the fever season where, Caitlin Clark got hurt, basically, for the entire year, and then everyone else on the team got hurt.
And then we moved that into the start of the Pacers season this year where there's no Tyrese Haliburton and everybody on the team is hurt.
And then we move that into Notre Dame getting absolutely screwed and jobbed by the committee and not making the playoffs.
And then we move that into this, losing streak after this hot start that the Colts have been on to then see our quarterback who's been given us so much hope, Daniel Jones, who's played out of his mind this year.
Like, it wasn't all perfect, but he was such a reason why they're playing good. Go down with his Achilles. So going from hottest team in the NFL to maybe, probably, unlikely making the playoffs.
So before we talk about, the main topic, I just wanted to give everybody a timeline. And this the years it's years not even done, but that's what my fandom has been like this year.
That's so brutal. I'm I'm sorry for your losses. You're many like, at that point, like, yeah, what do you even were you just numb to it when Daniel Jones when it happens, you're just like, yep. That was gonna like, here we go.
This is what happened. This is pain. Yeah. It's it's the same old song and dance and just, how symbolic that it was in Duval, Jacksonville, which shout out Jaguars and fans for beating the Colts once again in your hometown.
But you there was, like, the rain and the feeling, and it was like, this isn't gonna be good, and then he goes down.
So it was like it was like this numbing process, and then it's also like this element of, you know, this one was so absurd that I couldn't even, like I I, like, couldn't get myself completely down in the dumps because it was just, like, oh, so this next.
So I started to think about, like, the important things in my life of, like, you know, being able to, like, talk about sports cards for a living and, like, having a family and great kids and another and I was like, don't get yourself into that.
So I was sending texts, like, to friends, and we were trying to like, it was phoned down, and I texted people back later.
Like, I didn't mess. But it was, like, the next day, it was, like, I was, you know, not like I try to never be mister negative when it comes to these situations, but I was trying to be realistic being like, yeah.
It this sucks. This is over. But I'll also say, like, Riley Leonard played his ass off in that game.
And I love Riley Leonard, obviously, as a Notre Dame fan, but he for a six round pick thrown into that situation, I thought my feedback was I thought he did a really nice job, and I also was like, man, if he could get a full week, like, not necessarily saying he's gonna blow the doors off everything, but it they might it might be serviceable.
Well, then we find out that Riley Leonard has a PCL deal, and so you've got Richardson with the orbital bone, unable to play.
You've got a questionable Riley Leonard PCL. You've got a Daniel Jones torn Achilles out for the year. You've got Brett Rippon in the practice squad who hasn't taken a snap for three years.
And so it's you've got you've got a coach that is on tilt. You've got a general manager on tilt trying to figure out what do you do because if you look at the situation, yeah, though, it's looked bleak, but the Colts are eight and five.
Like, there's four games left. So there there there is although it seems small right now, there is an opportunity to still make the playoffs.
So you get into this mode where I'm sure they're like, what do we do? And what did they do? They decided to make a phone call, to a individual in Alabama who's the head coach of his son's high school football team.
And by the way, his son is, like, ranked seventh in the country at quarterback, and his name is Gunnar. Like, Gunnar Rivers. Wow. So they call Phil, and they're like, hey, Phil.
Like, what are your thoughts on coming and playing quarterback? And I think the story line of Philip Rivers throughout his entire, hall of fame career, should be hall of fame, likely push back hall of fame career Yeah.
Is that he is an individual who's one of the best competitors ever. And it has come out. He's entertained coming back after his retirement, but he got on a plane.
And when you see these major, outlets talk about, well, Philip Rivers is on a plane meeting with the Colts to talk about this, it's like this in my mind, I was like, this is happening.
Like, this is happening because Steichen and Rivers were on this they coached, and Rivers played with him for six years. Rivers is running the Colts offense with his kids' team, so he's in the offense.
Oh, wow. Steichen and Rivers are on the phone with each other talking about the offense every week. And so everyone's like, this guy's so old. He's 44. But he also played with JT and with Pittman in his last year.
So there came out yesterday that Philip Rivers, in fact, is being signed to the practice squad, which is just hilarious in general. It's like, oh, Philip Rivers is coming out of retirement to be on the Colts practice squad.
I I think there's probably another shoe shoe to drop, but here we are. We're in an a situation where you've got a organization and members of the organization's probably job on the line.
You've got, four games left and a chance at the playoffs, and you're calling in 44 year old retired Philip Rivers to come save the day.
And this has me just fascinated on so many levels. I'm not saying it's going to end well, but I have hope. I didn't have hope, and now I have some sort of hope.
Although, we're going into Seattle, and what a what a way to, like, come out. And it hasn't been announced at the time of recording that Philip Rivers is, in fact, going to start that game.
Only time will tell, but what a storyline, Like, you you think anyone's gonna be interested in watching that game if Philip Rivers is under center?
So I love Philip Rivers. Card note here, I in January, Philip Rivers' black finite sold for $2,500 on eBay.
And I saw it, and I had just got done buying a card. I was like, god, I just can't do it. And I ended up paying $2,500 for his raw gold prism months later. So there's some context for the rivers and black finite of it all.
But, yeah, man. It is quite the story. And what's fun about it, it's really captivating the hearts and minds of NFL fans where I think a a lot of people are very interested in seeing what happens with this.
And you've got George Foreman who won the heavyweight championship at age 45. He had Brady obviously win a Super Bowl. There's something about old guys and people like people like supporting old guys, and we might be seeing that.
But, yeah, not what I expected, but, hey, I'm here for it. Yeah. That is must see TV. They need to flex that game. Put that in prime time.
I wanna watch Phil go out there and, like, yeah, one last ride. Like, that's that's cinema right there. I hope he yeah. I hope he doesn't just go out there and get blown up. But even looking at his, like, last year, he had good numbers.
Like, I granted it was five years ago, but, I don't know. I'm rooting for him. It's impossible, yeah, not to root for the old guy who's just, like, get them one and ride off into the sunset.
Like and the AFC is kinda wide open. The AFC is I don't know. The the Texans are becoming, like, the class of the AFC. Like, that's kinda I don't know about that.
But if Phil knows this offense and he can come in and just get JT the ball, get the ball out quick, you know, just manage manage the offense, win a few games and sneak in, that would be a that'd be a great story.
Flacco won comeback player of the year last year off of, like, four games. Like, if Phil puts together a couple wins, he'll he'll be a legend. I wanna say a a goalie and a dag gum to Philip Rivers.
And also just I've I've consumed so much stats about him, but here's one for you before we talk about your squad. Philip Rivers has this is my favorite stat that I didn't know about.
He has twenty nine fourth quarter comebacks in his career, which is more than Joe Montana. Wow. Obviously, doesn't have the Super Bowls that Montana has, but, the perception of Montana was all I mean, he he was a great winner.
Obviously, great fourth quarter quarterback, but I was stunned to see that Rivers had more than him. So cool. So cool. Leading him down the field. Well, good luck. So you said in Seattle, though?
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Of course. The worst case scenario of all time. It it literally will be, like, if if this dude plays and they can somehow win, which the chances are very low, but if it they can somehow win.
Dude, we're talking, like, one of the greatest sports stories were unfolding right before our very eyes.
Yeah. What's what's that spread right now? It's like it was I saw it at, like, 16 and a half or something crazy. Oh my god. That's so many points. I gotta take those points.
Oh, god. Don't bet against Phil. He's at 1,500 last time I checked for NFL comeback player of the year, which, people jumped on it right away, and it just immediately went down to 15 plus 1,500. But I was like, what? Yeah.
That's a easy place to put your money. It's like, if it happens the way you You said 1,500 1,500. The first Plus 1,500 for, comeback player of the year. You could put your your 15 x your money right now on or last night when I checked.
But what did it open at? You said? I don't I I saw eight I saw at 1,800, and I think it might have opened that even higher than that, but I didn't get a chance to see.
Wow. Yeah. That? I'm gonna be watching. Like and, yeah, I wouldn't have watched Brett Rippon, I'll be honest, or No. Riley Leonard probably wouldn't have made me interested in the Colts game, but Philip is that makes it the it's a box.
That's a game I'll watch. So Who who who wouldn't wanna watch that? And what is it about that that is so captivating to so many people?
I think it's like the the hero story of I'm sure there's some, like, classic movie arc that I'm not thinking of of, like, the old guy coming out of retirement for one last show.
I mean, isn't that what's the Johnny Cash movie? Like, coming back, like, doesn't he go on hard.
Yeah. Walk hard. Well, walk hard's the Dude, he talks. Yeah. Which is great movie. Great movie. That is one of the best comedies ever, and it's no. I feel like not enough people have seen it, but that movie is just unbelievable.
Dewey Cox story, man. What Walk the line. Walk is the yeah. Walk hard is unreal. It holds up, some great great bits in there. But, like, what else? Who's, I just had one.
Even, like, the Beatles on the rooftop. Like, I don't know. There's something about a curtain call. Like, yeah, like, already in the year since Philip Ruford's retirement, we've already discussed, like, dang. He put up good numbers.
Like, I think we even said at some point on this show, like, what there were there are teams that would take Philip Rivers right now because of how, like, bad some of the quarterbacks are in the NFL. So I'm rooting for him.
That'll be fun to watch. Apparent apparently, he, you know, this is all via the reporting, but he looks great physically, and he is throwing the ball like nothing has changed, which is now can his body take the hits?
That's the question. And hopefully, he'll be protected. But, yeah, it's it's wild, man.
I hope we get to see it. Yeah. He's a competitor, though. He'll he'll be ready to play. That's I'm excited. Bears lost to the Packers. It was gonna happen. I was at home, though, so that's my first home loss of the season.
I will say the 04:25 kickoff then put the end of the game right around bedtime for my daughter, which she is turned two in September, so is a strong, opinionated toddler who I was the one who I, like, I had to do books with her that night.
Like, it was or it was going to be a it was a problem.
So I'm streaming the the game on my phone, like, in her room, like, half paying attention because because if I would've tried to let my wife do it, she was just gonna be screaming, and I wouldn't have been able to, like, focus on the game.
So I was like, I can have the game on my phone. And so I wasn't watching in my ideal environment. So I'm I'm not throwing an asterisk on this one, but I'm just putting it out there.
I wasn't down in my living room, watching the sound on. I was just like, come on, guys. Do this. Do this. But, I'm actually I'm not even that mad. I've been here before in terms of being able to cope with almost any bad situation.
And this team is, nine and four, and you lost to the Packers in Green Bay, and you get a chance to beat them at home in a couple weeks. So and they played them down to the wire, like, I don't know.
The Caleb interception was terrible. The play worked or the Colkumet sprung open, but I also don't like that Ben Johnson did the same play that he had did the previous week with the Eagles.
That was the whole thing of, like, he ran the same play. That Caleb threw a touchdown on against the Eagles.
I think it's a little too, like, trying to be cute or be like, I can call this play again. Like, I don't know. Just get the yard. It was fourth and one. Give it to Manon guy. Get a yard, and then take a couple shots at the end zone.
So, Yeah. And my cope for this whole thing is just that Jordan loves in year six. The Packers just traded for pars like, this is the Packers Super Bowl window team that is assembled.
Like, they're supposed to be the top dog. The Bears are in year two of this year one of Ben Johnson. They're kind of ahead of schedule that they're nine and four this year. So we're not even supposed to be here type energy.
So Packers barely escaped with a win. I'll take that. And now the Bears just have to go home and beat Cleveland, beat the Browns at home, don't let Shidore have some insane game, which the they could.
Like, I I've seen this before where I mean, the Bears lost to Tyler Huntley earlier in the season.
So I could see a game where Myles Garrett just wrecks the game and Shador has, like the bears' defense can't stop anyone. The browns win. And then I would seriously be devastated, and depressed.
But if the Bears just come out and take care of the Browns and win their tenth game, you have an opportunity to get your revenge against the Packers the next week on Saturday night.
So I don't know. The loss sucks, but I'm not, like, that down about it.
Yeah. I wouldn't be. You'll be fine, especially if bears take care of business this weekend. I I instantly my my coping mechanism was blacking out everything that happened in the NFL.
TV off, and I gave my wife the option. No Sunday night football for me. Nothing. None of it. I don't wanna watch any of it, especially after a day like that. I gave my wife the option. I was like, okay.
We can do one of two things. We can watch wrestling. I got a lot of wrestling on the backlog that I'm gonna watch, or we can watch a Christmas movie. And I was hoping she was going for, wrestling because I had some catching up to do.
But she went with Christmas movie, and we watched Home Alone. So I watched Home Alone on Sunday night as an elixir for the bad taste left in my mouth for the day. What a classic. Home Alone gets better with time.
Home Alone two also. Another another good one. They we're just talking about this. Home Alone two, though, they really juice up the the booby traps and, like Supercharged. There should be some deaths there.
There should be deaths. Yeah. There was, like, something about how many years Kevin McCallister would be facing if he was tried for all the things he does in home alone too. But, yeah, Bears, just go win this week.
Winning changes everything. Go to ten and four, and then you get the Packers at home. It's fine. Should we, talk a little MarketWatch brought to you by our great friends at Card Ladder? The greatest, sports card data tool of all time?
Yes. Alright. Don't don't mean to pour salt in the winds. We're going to a Packers card. Right? Right now. This is the 2,005 playoff contenders, which we've talked about these contenders rookie tickets.
This is the Aaron Rodgers PSA 10. There this is a pop 44. This card sold on eBay for $13,500, which I just thought saw the pop, and I I was just kinda blown away. But then you look at it, this card at one point sold for $52,800.
So $13. 05 doesn't sound so bad. But, yeah, I don't know. Like, o five, we've talked about outside of finest. Not a great year for football cards, but I think this is certainly one of the more desirable Aaron Rodgers cards.
Yeah. Big sale for for the rookie ticket. Yeah. I love that. This is one of his better looking rookie cards, though, in my opinion.
His o five finest, he's in the, like, practice shorts. Mhmm. And, it's all, like, the sticker autos. Like, he doesn't just have, like, a base o five finest gold or anything.
Like, all of his o five finest stuff includes an autograph, which is what finest was doing back then. It's like the in o two, they have certain guys that only have memorabilia patches.
We've talked about that. But this him being in his pro uniform, like, that's the Aaron Rodgers I remember. That version of him just absolutely cooking the bears every single year.
So this is nostalgic in a weird way. And, yeah, playoff Contenders Auto. I wish it wasn't a sticker, but whatever. And then I it's always weird. Like, I guess he signed the sticker, and then they put the stamp over the sticker.
But Mhmm. I was always yeah. It's not maybe the best, most aesthetically pleasing year of contenders, but I like it. I don't I don't hate this card. It reminds me of the Justin Fields year.
Oh, of contenders? Yes. Yeah. And, gotta think about what that looks like. But I was when I was thinking about it Yeah. You know what I mean? The I love the you get the the changing of the guard with manufacturers.
Like, this is a playoff contenders from o five, and, like, contenders is still being produced under the Panini banner. And it got me thinking. You just look at that time. It's like, wow, I could get a rookie ticket for every year.
Like, how cool of a collection would it be if someone just collected, like, rookie ticket autos of hall of fame guys? Like, that would be a cool collection to look at over the years.
Oh, yeah. Yes. I mean, the legacy is there all the way back to '98. So you could really put together a cool Contenders Odd, collection. Alright. We're moving over to 2023 Prism, Jackson Smith, and Jigba.
JSN, his gold Prism PSA 10 sold on eBay via best offer for $6,999 having best receiver season. Colts face him this week. Not looking forward to that. But the gold prism PSA 10 gold prism, man, they're in demand. People want these cards.
Yeah. This, great looking card that the scans of twenty twenty three prism are always looking good. The gold really pops in the scan. But in hand, twenty twenty three prism gold, not not my favorite, but, this card is sick.
JSN is having a great year. This cracked into the top five, JSN sales of all time behind a a gold kaboom, a gold downtown, a green kaboom, and a Shield Auto. Shield Auto sold for $27,000 as the highest JSN card.
But How about the last sale of this card was in June '24 for $1,200? Oh my gosh. That's a nice little, come up right there. The gold prism, man. Yeah. Having a good it's what having a great season can do for your gold prism.
Yeah. Just a quick five x, five plus x. That's that's wild. I bet this brings out more of them. I don't know. That's that's a cool card. That's a lot of money for, like not I don't wanna say one good season.
I feel like he was good last year, but and he'll likely be okay. So he got a Pro Bowl last year, 1,100 receiving yards. Yeah. He's already at 1,400 right now with some games to go.
He's gonna put up a really, really big year probably for Steam All Pro. So, yeah, if you're a Seahawks fan or just, like, want to collect cool receivers, I can see why this would be a piece.
Alright. We're moving over to the 86 ops, Bruce Smith, p s a 10, selling on eBay for $6,811. This card is a pop 41, and I am happy to report that this is the all time highest sale of this Bruce Smith card.
The last sale was in April 20 this year, April 12. Sold for $52. 50, and we are talking $68. 11 here. So big sale for one of the greatest, defenders of all time.
But it feels like each week we're talking about one of these cards, and it's this segment with, you know, one or two cards of a player. High grade is really taken off right now. Yeah. This is just such a iconic set.
I mean, you got the Jerry Rice, of course, but, the Walter Payton to me is an all time like, I just remember see like, I I remember in 2001, Topps, like, reproduced a bunch of 86 cards because it would have been god.
The only the 2001 being the fifteen year anniversary of eighty six is just crazy to think about that now we're 25 like, thirty forty years total removed from '86.
Time's flying. But what a great set. Like, I don't know. I more and more, I I'm always talking about that.
The vintage bug keeps growing, but, like, a sick vintage card in a PSA 10, there's something about it. Like, just a clean, perfect copy. This is cool. And what a picture with a coat on, mean mugging someone.
Like, Bruce Smith was a badass. His his numbers are crazy too. Yes. Very crazy. So it's fun to see these hall of fame players' cards take off because usually there's just, like, one rookie card.
So, yeah, if you want the rookie card, you gotta you gotta go with the high grade stuff, and they're starting to take shape. All time sack leader, 200 sacks. Eight time first team all pro.
Jeez. That's that's awesome. Bruce Smith, hell of a player. We move over. This card feels like it got lost in the shuffle because of the Brady Superfractor, but it's the 2017 Mahomes gold vinyl b g s nine five.
This card's special. This card sold, via Golden for 195,200. Golden was slanging some big time football cards this weekend. This is a pop too. But, yeah, I mean, we talked about the gold, see that a lot, but it's cool to see gold vinyl.
I did, check out the sales of this. At one point, this card sold for nearly 400 k. 21 sold for 400 k. And at its lowest, this card sold for 99,000, which that seems like the steal of the century for this card.
Whoever got in and maybe they got in at 99 and sold for $1. 95. That that'd be something. But, yeah, this card, five copies, just the shot is so, recognizable of this era.
To me, this is one of the defining cards of the Panini era based on player profile and everything else. So we talk about Prism a lot, have to highlight this monster sale for Patrick Mahomes.
Yeah. That's a crazy card. That one, I thought it was gonna go higher based on this the way things are going. But I wonder if even even though it's just one little down year, if that affects it.
Like You'd have to think some impact maybe. Right. Like, I mean, if JSN is going up six x during this year, like, clearly, current performance factors into purchasing passion.
So, yeah, I I I don't know. I can't say $200,000 is ever a deal, but it seems like there there are worse ways to spend $200,000 in this hobby.
I'll say that. Seen it. I've seen it. I've seen it. I've seen it. Yeah. This is, I'm just looking I'm surprised how many of them it sells a lot, this card. Right. Ain't that crazy? Yeah. It's never landing in that forever home.
But, no. This is this is a cool card for sure. Alright. We move over to the final card, which Drake made twenty twenty four prism gold prism PSA nine. We talked about it as blue prism selling for, what was it, 23 k?
And here's the gold first gold prism sale selling for 35,400, which to me, it was like, man, I would if if I had all the money in the world and I was just investing in sports cars, I would much rather pay 35 for this Drake May gold prism than owning the PSA 10 blue even though it's a pop one for 23 or whatever it it was.
I did pull up, the last sales.
This sold in May for $13,000. You can talk about what a good this is the theme. What a good season or what a bad season can do for your cards. 13 k to 35 k in a matter of months. How how you doing? Inset, what's below that even though?
Go to Ten. Somebody bought this thing at ten. Wow. For a 9 too. That's I love twenty twenty four Prism. We've talked about it. A 10 a 10 sold in June for 27. Okay. And then a nine coming around for 35?
That's yeah. What a good season can do. I still don't believe in the patriots. I'll just say that. I need to see I need to see more. AFC's weak. They haven't played anybody. Yeah. I don't yeah. They haven't played anybody crowd.
I feel like I I can't say anything at this point. I don't wanna if you hex a hex, does it reverse it? Maybe that's what I should do. It's just start talking shit about every team, and that will, like, get me out of the jam that I'm in.
Or maybe I can just say, Philip Rivers is my quarterback, so, like, good luck, pal. Yeah. There's whatever's gonna happen is gonna happen. It's you just gotta Yeah.
You just gotta believe. Alright. Good job. MarketWatch. Cool cards. Selling. Collecting updates. What are current collecting projects that you're focusing your resources on? Any new big pickups? Yeah. Pretty big one.
So I'll say I've I will have I dedicated an entire episode to this pickup because there was so much to say. So I'll point listeners back to an episode that will have gone out on Thursday, where I just talk about this acquisition.
But I picked up, the 2012 Reggie Wayne Black Finite one of one. Just a monster card, a card that I wasn't expecting, I'd never seen before, unicorn of a situation.
This all unfolded during the Thanksgiving holiday. Lot of different things to be learned from this. I will say just in this, and again, go listen to the episode for more.
But there is a huge difference, and I will view as these deals and cards we buy regularly on the Internet or via marketplaces in these bigger sales, or I will say enterprise sales that happen privately.
The the mechanics, the communication, everything about those deals are so different. And that was something that stood out to me as I was going through this process of, like because I use resources.
I use, Worf. Shout out Nick. Try to use a resource like him during a holiday, try to get everyone aligned on the same page.
I felt like an enterprise sales rep, even though I was the person buying the card. I'm trying to get everything organized. But I I feel like the card itself is it's a pivotal moment from from my collection.
I had been hinting at, like, man, this Colts Prism project is, like, my primary. And there are gonna be moments where I'm gonna have to sacrifice cards to when something pops up.
And this card popped up, and I needed to make sacrifice. And at the end of the day, like, I couldn't sleep letting this card go to someone else's collection.
So I'm right there with you, pal, in 2025 in terms of big plaque night night sales of someone on our our team. So I am excited, to get this one in hand and to make it happen.
But, yeah, it's it was crazy. I haven't shared with too many people, but felt like, the right time to talk about it, here in an episode and then here on the Football Card podcast. Let's go. So it's in hand?
It it's, it's supposed to be here today. Oh. But you know what that mean you know what that means. It'll probably be here on Friday. I I've learned this about December. Everything it's like everything is a day late or two days late.
You know? Yes. Everything is so delayed right now. Congratulations. What a card. What when did you get the t y? That's a great question. I feel like it was It was a it was was it I think it was last year.
Last summer, maybe. I didn't know if it was, like, the start of it, like, very early in this year, but No. But I bought I bought the the t y was listed on eBay, and then I immediately, like, started messaging this seller.
And I found out and this is the same thing with the Reggie. Like, the Reggie card was was acquired twenty twelve, twenty thirteen, and has sat with the same collector the entire time.
This the the t y was pulled from a pack, and the guy who I bought it from, he bought it from his friend. And, like and that was the only change of ownership.
Like, one, and then he resold it to me. So I like, what I am learning because, like, I was thinking about this is, like, how many, like, hall of fame players or great cards from twenty twelve prison black finance have I never seen?
And it was, like, I'm thinking about it as, like, a majority. Like Right.
A majority of these. And so I'm learning that, like, a lot of these cards are just buried in these collections where they've been the whole time. Yeah. That that's that's amazing. I can't wait to see more of them come out too.
Like, I'd and, like, that you were able to land it. That's that's where it should be. That's great to see. So You and I need to get you need you and I need to get together in line at the national to grade both of these together.
Oh, sequential certs? Yes. Yeah. That's, yeah, that's my plan with color. So, yeah, we can we should definitely do that. Wow. Having Reggie anti y, that's sick, though.
You need luck. You need that luck. But one day I said that the only card I would have ahead of this one in this Colts prism collecting project is the luck. But the the the Reggie was number two on the list of cards that I wanted.
So when, like, your second most desirable card right now is available, like, you try to do whatever you can to get it, and that's what I did. Reggie over Freeny? I think so. Yeah. But it's it Freeny would be the the next.
Like, so that's the thing. It's like, I'm imagining what the Freeny black finite looks like, and it's making me so excited. When I and shout out everyone, and I said this in the episode, but, like, I got, like, five messages.
This was in a a cult small cults collectors group. And I, like when I saw the picture, dude, it felt like I was it wasn't real. Like, I was like, this isn't even real life.
Like, what is this? And, like, that's what's special about these cards, I think, is, like, as they begin to surface, it's like you're seeing something for the first time. It makes it special. That is awesome.
Well, again, congratulations. I can't wait to see it. Big card. What about you? I've been pretty quiet. I've had I don't have anything in hand. Did a couple purchases of passion for this bear squad over the last couple weeks.
Trying out some new sets, just trying out things, and then I did get this in hand. I don't know if I talked about this. But 2003, Topps Chrome, Black Refractor, Charles Tillman rookie card.
I had one of one of these for a while when finally popped up. Like, I have the Rex Grossman from this year. I have Charles Tillman for or Anthony Thomas from 2001. Early early black refractors.
I love an early black refractor. So, yeah, excited to get that one. I don't I didn't I have maybe one or two other Tillman cards. He's just not in a lot of sets too, and that's a player that, like, I would love to collect more of.
So, yeah, shout out Peanut Tillman. Great player. Always love a good Peanut punch. Yeah. And it's like he's talked about every year because of that.
It's crazy. So I think he's, top three most, like, forced fumbles of all time. He's, like, right behind your boy, Mathis. But as a DB, it's just kinda Crazy. Yeah. So I think he's at 44.
Mathis is at 52. Julia is A lot. 51. Yeah. That's good job. Robert Mathis, get him in the hall. Dude, his yeah. Most forced fumbles in NFL history, it feels like that should be enough. Right? Yeah. I mean and played with one team.
He's in twenty twelve prism. Right? Yeah. Oh, dude. I set the all time high fly. I That's right. That's right. Pull Prism. Yeah. Yeah. I'm just gonna I'm gonna make an that was, like, me planting my, flag in the ground.
It's like, I'm gonna be that person who who who rocks this sale right now. Yep. And I bet it's worked out alright. Or in theory, who knows? Sweet. Episode 25. I think we did it. We did.
Alright. We might have to workshop card call out live on air because last week, we asked to see ice cards, which was awesome. Love the creativity there. Some good combos. Season three, I was thinking season three, do we do trios?
I feel like we've done trios before, but maybe we could make it, like, same player or, trios of, like, three, like, similar players or, like, teammates or Let's let's do let's let's do this.
I like the trios call out to launch this season.
Why don't we do you the trio is the same player across three different years of the same product. It could be the same parallel. I just some consistency there, but it would be fun to see a player over a three course span.
And if you're going to pick a parallel, which I feel like many of you will just would like to see the parallels align over those three years. Okay. I'll say this. Let's do trios. Like, that can be included.
You get mega bonus points if you're able to pull that off. I think Okay. I just think it's gonna be very hard to pull off runs like that. But, like, it it could be a trio, any kind of trio, season three trios.
But just know you will be awarded mega bonus points if it is same player, same parallel in a run. Like Can we give can we give 50,000 bonus points for anyone who does that? Gotta look at the budgets.
But, if someone pulls it off, like, let's go. So the more trios you can layer into this card call out, the better. Because, like, that would be three years in a row, three of the same parallel, three of the same player.
Like, you're just racking up trio multipliers for your trio parlay. It it we might we might have, we might, have the ultimate prize if you're able to select a player and do that, the level up who's actually wearing the number 25.
One guy we didn't mention, Reggie Bush. Oh. Can can somewhat line up. That is what I wanna see. I wanna see three years of of one player coach.
Yeah. Same pair of wearing the number 25. Yeah. I bet, AS cards are Garrett Wolfe super collector. Probably has a trio of 20 fives. Challenge. Yeah. Alright. Episode three football season three, episode one, Football Card Pod.
