Booked to Last: The GOAT Market Is Here. Are Wrestling Card Collectors Ready?

it's episode twenty eight yes it is aka adrian peterson for minnesota vikings fans like us but adam how we doing good man it is hot as hell in minneapolis i will tell you ninety nine degrees or something crazy and stuff like that how do i just don't get minnesota man i don't get the state you guys deal with cold you deal with hot i mean ninety nine that's insane the summers here get really hot and humid and it's it's always bad it's and the winters there are also brutal very very cold yes the it's it's the see like we used to live in san antonio so it was like you don't go outside in the summer and like now here in the winter you don't go outside for both the summer and the winter so why do you live there because because i enjoy torturing myself exactly both from a sports perspective and from a sports and from a living so and from a living perspective alright we have a shorter time frame here with everything going on with the nationals so we wanna get everything fired up and running quickly so ryan can get back to providing everything he's going to provide for i i will tell you this i'm gonna have adam post a picture for those of you following up patreon next week that i'm gonna be posting of all the wrestling boxes i've sent it to adam it's twenty one two rows labeled just wait it's it's an undertaking undertaker but we're gonna get there it's gonna be amazing i can't wait so just to quickly recap what's been going on in tv because there's there's really just basic filler until we get to the the the meat of summerslam the biggest news i think that came out over the last week is rhea ripley is actually hurt she did mention that she has a torn meniscus which for those of you who are not medical professionals it's the kneecap or the the the tendon that holds your kneecap in place i believe and that's not good so we have basically been told her her performance at summerslam is in jeopardy she can't move side to side she can't crouch she can't do anything that you need to do to wrestle so i you know it was weird because i think somebody mentioned like there was a wrestler it was either naomi or somebody else that tore their meniscus it is one of those injuries that can heal naturally so you don't necessarily have to have surgery but there are other takes time yeah there are other times where it does need surgery naomi relinquished her title a month into the rain because of this now rhea ripley is kind of like sitting on it i think that's probably the right call given that rhea ripley needs to be champion but yeah it's really unfortunate this injury has happened when it did yeah it's one of those things where no offense yo naomi okay get it rhea i mean there's nobody else bigger and better to take on that it's there's not anybody in the packing order i guess you just got to ride with it and hope that it heals faster sooner than later you know yeah and i think from a card perspective like she's one of those bulletproof people i don't think it's gonna have too much no of an impact but you know her her cards have dipped a little bit not much and i think it's just because she hasn't been on tv out of sight out of mind but you know if if i'm buying cards of anybody she's at or near the top of the list anyways so not much impact there mhmm we did see centimeters punk come back to smackdown and i think for the first time in a long time i actually went out of my way to watch a smackdown segment and it was like the promo made sense like he they did explain him coming to smackdown and the absence on tv in the best k fave way that you can and i anytime centimeters punk is on the mic i think it's engaging whether you love him or hate him and i think that's what smackdown has been missing and they're going back to two hours which is even better because the three hour wrestling show just doesn't work so it was good and i i think having centimeters punk be the face on smackdown is is a good move let's just hope that they don't sort of run into the same old feuds that they've been running into in this cody match is one and done who knows but cody needs to be off tv likely for a while give him a break give us some time to miss him and then he can come back with something fresh or pull the trigger on the heel turn yeah i think that was the right play smackdown's been tremendously hurting obviously the news is not helping it so that's another notch but adding somebody like centimeters punk who is entertaining who's gonna draw people to watch it yes needs to be one and done with this few it needs to be done it needs to end the story with these two and hopefully we get punk as the champion that we have somebody set to potentially take over at some point i don't know i don't know how long they're gonna have punk hold this but i think they're at the point now with all these injuries they just need somebody to carry it and somebody that's got the crowd behind them or potentially a heel i don't think goonther's it right now i think well i think they're they just it's not that's not what smackdown needs and as much as i'm not a huge punk fan i think he is tremendous on the mic he is entertaining he put on a banger of a match at wrestlemania with roman reigns so right move right time let's see how this plays out yeah and then just one other thing i wanna call out from smackdown so trick williams and carmelo hayes had a match and in the course of that match we had the expected but unexpected return of baron corbin mhmm i think that was executed really well i'm interested to see what they're gonna do with corbin he has kind of like this biker look naturally just with all the tattoos and the shaved head and everything but before that even happened trick williams and liljati debuted this new us title and i must say it is so perfect for his character i've never seen a custom title fit somebody as good as this one is it has fur around the edges they're selling it on wwe shop naturally but this was so good i love his reaction to it i love the way that it looks on tv i think it looks awesome yeah it's definitely something like we haven't seen before and i think it's gonna grab a lot of people so great marketing from this one right here where i'm sure these are gonna be a hot seller at summerslam for belts this year absolutely white fur everything and trix character continues to be the mode one of the more entertaining people but yeah if if they're gonna put him in a feud with baron corbin and stuff like that great but i think you know corbin's one of those guys you can bring back he doesn't have to like win every match as well no but which is which is important for somebody if you introduce him into a title feud right away he doesn't have to take out the champion i think corbin i'd like to see it i i was kinda shocked they didn't have him bring him back and go against breaker i think breaker could use somebody like corbin to go up against as a heel but the given their tag team history but either way i think putting him on smackdown will at least add another hand and he's a good worker he's he's good he's good he's like he's he's good good mid carder he's always his cards are insanely cheap so if you want if you were hoarding baron corbin cards now is the time unload them but yeah he's he's he signed for like a ton of sets in a row especially as constable corbin back in the day and he was happy corbin he was a lone wolf i mean he's had a lot of gimmicks but i've always been a fan of corbyn he he really can hold himself in the ring he can hold himself on the mic i think that was a right bringing him back they need some kind of not fresh but fresh now talent to come back and you know make these younger guys better essentially is what they're gonna do with this moving on to to raw from this week they had a gauntlet match on on tv that i thought was i mean every once in a while you need to have one of those matches where it's like it's just straight wrestling for an hour and when when the whole noche de los grande's thing happened i was like the only thing that needs to come of this is chad gable versus penta for the ic title at summerslam and spoiler he won the he won the gauntlet so we are getting chad gable versus penta i'm not happy that they're doing his clappy theme song with it i it would be really cool if they could just go back to the sort of his original stuff and just do it the right way but i i think it's likely chad gable beats penta i think chad gable is gonna come out of summerslam in his hometown with that belt which is the right call it's just too bad that they've packaged him this way yeah i mean but obviously you can't you know this is the step down from you know one of the main belts so i mean i like it i think it's great for chad especially being from minnesota i think it'd be awesome i think the crowd i think it'll be a great match all around respect for each wrestler got may may you know could potentially be one of the matches of the day depending on what they're going up against as far as watching just good wrestling just good traditional wrestling you're gonna see these two put on the show yeah the gauntlet was amazing really well done jevon evans showed out like everybody in that match had a role and played it very well i really liked watching it start to finish and that's rare for a gauntlet match for me it really takes a lot to hold my interest but they did a really good job with it i thought the finish was good so yeah i mean there's some other question marks with sort of chad gable's character but i think this is the right call also we got a very quick promo that is highlighting the return of big cass or big bill or whatever they're gonna call him no enzo in that promo though which was very interesting because i think enzo and cass as a whole are not somebody i wanna see on tv cass without enzo is even less so so i'm not sure what they're doing here yeah i don't know there's been all these rumors i mean i mean they'll probably get if they both come back you know the crowd will go with it it'll be fun again but it'll be just we'll be fun like a yeah yeah i mean big cast is so big but he's just i he's he's just tag team type he's just there he's there it's like when the dudley boys came back for like two weeks and like they they and then they that was awesome though that was so cool to see but that's the dudley boys those are all time great very different gamers arguably you know top five tag team maybe top three of all time depending on who you're asking so that's a little different it's a it's a it's very different but it was like two way like they were they were on the older side too and then devine went to be a producer and bubba ray's doing bubba ray things yep but like that that's this i expect maybe this run could end up like that it'll be good for like a week and a half then they'll be off tv i also wanna talk about the the seth rollins and roman reigns segment at the end because i will i will finish this segment with the the open brock at the start because we're gonna go backwards here because that segment with roman and seth show exactly why this is the sunday night main event and what an absolute amazing segment it was well done well promo ed like if that's even a word but like god i watched that with like eyes wide open like oh wow like this is why they are who they are they are main event stars for a reason yeah the chemistry between these two has been going on for a long time and and this is gonna be the perfect build up to summerslam let these two just get on the mic go at it same as it's gonna be with cody and and puck but this is what you need you need to build this up build this momentum this hype and this match has a lot of implications behind it their record i think is four four and one i think you know this is the deciding factor obviously i'm pretty sure roman's gonna walk out as the champ yeah but i do think we're gonna see an unbelievable legendary talked about match just let these two go at it no distractions just good wrestling i mean the last time i i got to see these two at russ not wrestling sorry at royal rumble in twenty two in saint louis put on a phenomenal match and it was d q'd so rollins won that but it was awesome because i was excited to see rollins come out at you know his new entrance at the time and next thing you know you hear the shield music coming on and here he is coming through the crowd he's wearing the vest awesome to see what a mind game but these two put on iconic legendary matches this is gonna be one for it all don't know if it's the last of the last you know they still got years left but i think it's gonna be something that summerslam needs i think it's all shaping out to be great at this point and then obviously you have the open brock segment to talk about as well which is building a lot of great momentum yeah i watched that open brock segment and i was like you know they're they're really doing a lot to make me care about this despite how angry i am that they didn't end it at wrestlemania because i think oba is one of the most captivating people in the ring captivating when he's on the mic he has everything you want as a superstar he is going to be the face of this era that's coming up it hasn't started yet because we think cody is still in place right now but oba is primed to be the face of the next era and i think i think him and brock are gonna be the main event on saturday night and i cannot wait to see this we're gonna be kinda hanging out with you and your party and everything maybe we'll watch it but i i cannot wait for this match it's i i'm more excited for this match than any of the match on the card i think centimeters punk and cody start off one of the days on espn and then i think this is this hell in a cell match is gonna be crazy i think they will add a stipulation that brock's career is on the line i think that's coming in the in the future but maybe he just retires out of his own will yeah the question i have for you is okay this this definitely ends here if not then wwe it has is slapped across the head my question to you is when does oba potentially use his title shot when do you think that happens at this point because i think he said he relinquished it last night so what ended up happening is that are you kidding yeah so in the promo he said i relinquished this to fight you because i knew if i took it you'd interfere anyways and i would lose which i think was a really good call out like it's like yep it would do you remember like when austin theory had money in the bank and he used it on like the us title or something he said what you think i'm just gonna go and do this on the bloodline and everybody's gonna stop me i'm gonna fail there too so like the kayfabe explanation i think was really good but again this should have ended at wrestlemania we just gotta say it every time but they've made this a must see match okay so at that point then i i gotta think if that's the case if this is hundred percent relinquished i think oba has to win royal rumble yeah or and there's gonna be oba against roman reigns mania that's just it's it's setting up right now money in the bank not something oba needs to do is use there's no point in him cashing in like that unless you're gonna have cash want him to do that no i don't want either and the only way you do that is if you just have him stay straight up cashing in like well before match scheduled we're having this match you know that's understandable but i think that's a waste i think you need to use oba have him win royal rumble go out there just dominate everybody like he was doing last year if he's in the royal rumble he has to win i i would dank at this point if you were to linkage this you're gonna get a title shot oba is main event he has got wrestlemania written all over his face i mean this is gonna be fun to watch with this guy kid whatever you call him he does over the next year so yep okay let's move on to some card market highlights here because there are some awesome things to talk about here we had a massive auction end on gold and their elite auction ended on sunday or on saturday sorry and as part of that they one of the cards that was up for auction was the rock and stone cold sea boss and dual autograph super factor one of one this was a late addition to twenty twenty five chrome it was a a redemption that has been fulfilled it is live in their auction the card is glorious and it's sold for eighty two thousand eight hundred and twenty five dollars i think i said i i we were talking in the group chat with brett and everything and i think everybody was kinda hovering around the the fifty to sixty five candidates i think i can get to i'd like it to get to seventy five all of us were wrong it got to eighty three almost it was three bids away from six figures which is just insane but this card is so cool and to believe that there is an inscription version of this out there it's one of ten i don't think that that one gets to this price but this is this is looking like a grail i'm curious what's your it's the second highest modern wwe sale of all time what were your expectations coming into and what's your feedback coming out of it i really think we're kind on the same page because i had mike mc hit me up today he bid on it earlier in the day and he called me he's like what are your thoughts on this i said i think it's gonna go fifty to sixty but i think that this card could grab people that aren't your traditional wrestling collectors to come into this space and i think that's potentially what it might have happened i have my theories on potentially who could have won it or is it somebody outside the element of wrestling cards because at the end of the day wrestling cards or not these are two of the most iconic wrestlers arguably of all time on one card if you think attitude era instantly these two come to mind it is our first ever dual autograph ever dual and you know super factor auto everything so i think you're you're dealing with potential outside elements even if a somebody who wasn't a traditionalist did bid on this and didn't win it still drove the market up i i think this had potential gilmore i was out on it because i i didn't i had people ask me if i was gonna make an attempt to know because shermanic who who works for me pulled the black to ten out of my shop i acquired that from him it was a redemption obviously and it's just awesome to own that one because it came from us the only one i'm interested is the inscription which is yet to surface from my understanding i don't think it has obviously it has promoted i would much rather have that over this at the end of the day yes this is a super factor i'm an on card inscription guy give me inscriptions all day of the year for less price yes so i was i shocked a little but honestly in this day and age with what we're doing also being on golden that's got so many other people elements coming to it i think the eyes on that i think this went to ebay it would not have got what it got i think that woulda ventured in you know significantly less maybe it did would do what it did on fanatics live but i think golden gave it the attention it needed brought the awareness to it so i love it i think it's awesome to see it's amazing for the hobby of wrestling cards and and just puts more eyes on on the market and what wrestling cards are doing yeah we'll talk about the goat market here in a second because i have a slide prepared just to talk through some of the the tendencies we're seeing in the sports card market overall and how this card sort of fits into that because there is no bigger dual autograph in wrestling this is it the and if there is those people are no longer alive so like this is of the two living wrestlers it's this some could argue vince mcmahon and stone cold steve austin and a dual autograph might be that that's not gonna happen with all the controversy around vince mcmahon so i think this is the two biggest stars of the attitude era on one card it's a super factor i i was like this is i when when i saw the dual autograph previewed which was late because they were i don't think they were expecting to get this done and then they did and put it in the product as redemptions like i was shocked to see the super fracture not have the inscriptions is a little bit disappointing i his other ones have had like the the the other inscriptions other super fractures did have inscriptions that i've seen one sold for more than this and traditionally dual autograph sell for less because you have you know single collectors don't like other people on the card sort of brings down value usually stone cold's autograph is not as valuable as the rocks you know all that other stuff but this is the one card that i think the dual autographs make it better and i think that's probably one of the reasons why it was so hard for people to stay away and not bid just giant amounts for this but i'm curious what the inscriptions would go for i'm guessing it's a twenty to forty thousand dollar card at this point but it all depends on platform seller you name it all the fun stuff that it always comes with it do you think these guys ever signed together again yeah i do i i think eventually it'll happen i don't know if topps will run this back i think leave this one be be my opinion but i could see in the future maybe like a royalty or dynasty would be insane but i don't know if we get that we we might you know but at the end of the day yeah i i think i don't see why you couldn't from my understanding rock is really awesome when he's able to sign from my source tells me he's really awesome about it he's just kind about it so i think that you will see something i don't know if it'll be in topps chrome again i don't think you wanna rinse and repeat this in my opinion i think you let it be keep it one of a kind that's why i'm never moving mine unless i get the inscription which is the one that's been on my radar so yeah i i can't see you not getting them considering how easy how so cold's really good about signing for tops we've seen it this past year more than ever he's always been a really good signer so yeah why not well i think it'll happen moving on to another gigantic sale the bianca belair wrestlemania patch autograph sold for twenty nine thousand five hundred dollars via best offer on ebay this is the second largest public sale of a wrestlemania patch autograph i was talking with the guy who ended up with this and man i mean collector's gonna collect man like they want their cards he saw this as the top bianca belair card of all time he's not wrong i think everybody was shocked because she's not on tv she won't be on tv for a long time we talked about it last week sort of in the missing you segment i i think like i i think if this sale happened the week after randy orton sold no one would care it would be like oh yeah that makes sense randy's forty two bianca twenty nine yeah sure whatever but because we had some other sales in between you had jay uso at eighteen six you had tiffany stratton go for low amounts below this like i i think tiffany stratton is worth more than this card but like the because of that everybody's like why are you paying thirty grand for this card it's just we not make sense with the comps guys like these are grail cards and sometimes the rules of comp comps and everything don't apply the same way i think each of these cards has its own market and this one was competitive there were three or four people that were interested in it seeing it go for close to thirty k is or thirty two with tax is is pretty awesome to see yeah i i i'm with you on this yeah it's it's grill type cards and they're first of their kind yeah they're gonna make them again next year but bianca won't have one well i guess if they wanted to put one on her thing but she didn't wrestle you know she announced she was pregnant so i mean to this one i i get it from a collector standpoint from somebody who obviously went out and got the one that he wanted and i was willing to pay more than what it what it went for luckily i i was happy you tried to get the becky unfortunately just where it ended up is not ideal so hopefully you can get back to the states but we all when this was announced that they were making these we all every true collector was like i've gotta have this everybody it's like i gotta have this and you have to go way above expectations of what you're willing to spend to get it especially when you said the three people and there are two or three or four serious bianca collectors you're competing against all of them so they this definitely probably went but i think it's worth twenty five to thirty i really do based on knowing her market knowing what some of these people are willing to pay i think it's one of those things where the person who got it this probably was the top and i bet the next guy wasn't too far behind it so it's good i'm happy to see go to the collector that that wanted this and i agree tiffany in my opinion is worth more than this i don't know how much more mid thirties i'm guessing more than likely i don't know that's where i'm guessing so we know tifie undersold because of circumstances this sold work pretty close to where i think it's worth and and again people people are gonna have opinions on these no matter what till the end of the day you're you're gonna be beating the dead horse here to just talk about these cards but they are first of their kind they are the closest thing to a logo man in our industry that we can get and from understanding the other sports they mean so much to collectors and i am happy that the the collector got it yeah they they mean more they mean a lot and i think we've beaten this to like you said we've beaten this to death in this podcast but you know it doesn't stop people from trying to get out in front of this and say oh these cards are overhyped these things don't work why are they doing this who's buying these cards like i see all those questions i'm just like guys like imagine all of the logoman that are produced across baseball and shields for for football and then logo men for basketball i mean there are thousands of these cards produced and for wrestling these are the first there is no other twenty twenty five logo man that exists like they are the first wrestlemania patches they are the only wrestlemania patches of this year so it's not like they went and produced three different wrestlemania patches across three different sets this is it there's one of them and john cena is only gonna have one and can you imagine and i think i said this last week can you imagine if tom brady only had one shield during his entire run-in the football like that card would be a a hundred million dollar card right like game use stuff is gonna matter long term and it may not matter right now it might not be that the event used thing is caught on but it will we have the primer like everybody knows what is going to happen because it's already happened in baseball and football and basketball mhmm and none of that is gonna is gonna stay in those sports it's all gonna come to wrestling so if you think that like these iconic events wrestling functions around wrestlemania this is the super bowl so if you can imagine all of those logo men being tied to a championship game that's what this is equal to that's why we've hyped to this so much and why when these cards sell for thirty forty fifty or eventually a hundred and fifty thousand dollars which is what i expect is the minimum price for cena like we're not surprised because we've seen this in other sports wrestling collectors may be new to this experience and that's why it's so hard for people to grasp the same reason why there was hard for them to grasp by a rock gold prism sold for forty thousand dollars like those things are foreign concepts to some of the members of our community which is understandable but it's also something that we've already seen this happen like we've we've already like run this this story like it's it's already the film has already this has already happened so like we we know the ending here this is titanic for us we know the ship sinks at the end like it's it's it's very easy to see what's gonna happen i wanna take some time quickly to talk about a a trend that we hinted at last week and what i wanna talk about today briefly in sports cards if you look at all of the card ladder player indexes michael jordan tom brady mickey mantle jackie robinson like you know lebron james kobe bryant like you name it they're all up at a significant amount you run a shop am i wrong there no not at all they all the ghosts i mean kobe jordan right now are insane insane can't keep them in stock can't keep them in stock and i'm just using kobe and jordan we could talk about other sports but yes it's definitely the goat trend right now yeah like if you are what is referred to as a goat the goat market is what people are gravitating towards instead of taking forty grand a hundred grand and dumping it into quarterbacks that may or may not per you know make it out of their first contract in the nfl i think we somebody said like ninety eight percent of the players don't like they wanna say i'm gonna invest in people who've already been to the dance and shown that they can they can hustle and patrick mahomes you know has already won however maybe three four super bowls at this point and brady's won seven like why am i paying for somebody that hasn't even thrown a pass yet when i can go buy the good stuff so i put out a mar an article on main event talking about like guys this is this is what it means to be ahead of the curve because i think it's starting to happen in wrestling if you're gonna buy the goats whether that's goat wrestlers goat sets or goat cards like you're you're not gonna have any problems as long as the card market stays where it is so we're talking guys like roman reigns the rock stone cold steve austin which we just talked about earlier in the podcast and their dual autograph undertaker shawn michaels hulk hogan even current guys like you know like charlotte flair and becky lynch on the women's side or randy orton and more recently john cena are all part of this category they've already accomplished everything there is to accomplish in wwe so buying them versus buying somebody like solruka who is more of a risk due to injuries style of wrestling she hasn't really accomplished anything besides the intercontinental title like that's what this is built about so i wanted to take some time like from your experience in the sports card side of this do you see this being as much of a trend in wrestling as things continue to develop yeah i just don't know the trend these cards continue to go up but i think a lot of them are based on nineties inserts is huge right now obviously there's really you got prism stuff like that i think the prism twenty two twenty two prism golds anything like that are worth holding i i think this will transition i don't think it'll be the percentage of jumps like we're seeing yeah it usually like you're seeing like a cop this week and then two weeks later it's two grand up on these type of carbs i mean you're arguably talking you know the greatest basketball players of all time but in wrestling wrestling's so cheap compared to things it's dirt i know it's so dirt cheap so it's like how can it not go up like it's you you know we're we're seeing the trends there more people wanna collect the goats it's gotta transition over to here i just don't know how it's it's the jump's gonna over to here i just don't know how it's it's the jump's gonna go because i think the thing you gotta remember is jordan and kobe kobe did sign a lot for panini and jordan over here signed quite a bit for but they weren't signing as much as we're seeing john cena signs stone cold undertaker roman reigns they're more readily available and you also have you don't have the nineties factor insert but i think i like the next segment you're gonna talk about here because i think that goes hand in hand is the type of sets and inserts from that era also can generate over into wrestling which will have long term sustainability and growth as well yeah and i think like you mentioned like the the frequency of these cards and sets being what they are like to be fair i think wrestling cards are fewer in number overall and though john cena has signed a ton of cards comparatively i think some of the other guys who are coming up to the rookie ranks and migrating through their careers into goats they've signed quite a bit too and they sign after they've retired as well peyton manning is a great example of that and they're still insanely valuable hulk hogan signed a ton of stuff every week at his beach shop so i think like all of those guys are are it's more about the prestige of the of the card as much as it is the prestige of the person on the front of the card so you see those top kobe bryant cards mirror sort of kobe as a goat but also hey a flawless kobe autograph is gonna be insane because it's compounded right mhmm so if you have sort of that initial card of a goat wrestler let's use john cena as an example he had star swatch autographs in flawless which are a legacy sort of set in flawless that everybody collects so it's no shock that those cards are jumping in price because there's that crossover appeal so kind of like as you get into this like goat wrestler goat set goat card like all of a sudden that stuff becomes compounded and compounded and compounded which is why we see some of these panini cards like the the gold prisms with the rock and everything sell for these insane amounts of money and i was just talking with with jamieson he has a couple of them that he was going through preparing for fanatics fest and like he forgot he had some of these cards that are now worth like five times yeah they're like five times what he paid for it right he messaged me he's like what do you think is worth i don't care you better not be selling that just put it back he goes i'm not i go i don't know what it's worth now but but you need to put it back luckily i don't think you put it on the slide i was able to obtain finally and i haven't posted yet the twenty two randy orton prism gold exactly yeah that's right ten and however i had the black and the gold shimmered to three but i lo and behold didn't have the gold so i really think and i have the rock gold from that too and i i think the twenty two prisms and even the select for some of the bigger names not inserts will have long long term sustainability to grow because it is an era that will always be talked about will never probably be done again and to go with the flow of star swatches heck i've already predone a deal for national my good buddy trevor's selling me a group for i don't wanna say how much but it's north of ten thousand of just the stuff he was building because he was trying to build the set and he was messing me he's like i don't wanna sell it but i also wanna finish it but these have gone up so much i wanna have some fun international so i paid them basically market esque if you can find them to get because i know for a fact that myself jameson and brian have been stashing as much of the sarge watches as we can because it goes hand in hand with basketball and flawless and everything like that yes they're not event you know not worn event or anything but they're legendary iconic they're they're big money in basketball and even football they're big sets why not in wrestling the cards are beautiful they look great and it was won and done yeah i think we'll have brian on next week to talk about his strategy for the national and some of the other stuff so that'll be an interesting conversation but i know he's been really a proponent of sort of like going back and finding some some of these diamonds in the rough but even going back as far as like twenty nineteen transcendent like that was the first like crazy high end wrestling product that was ever produced and it has some amazing cards in that set i've seen those jump a ton i've seen we've we'll cover some of the sales i purposely pulled as a sort of relationship to this discussion but the transcendent stuff's going up those transcendent super factors from twenty twenty one talk about go cards beautiful like just insane cards from that era and i think that like if you can combine all three of these segments goat wrestlers goat set goat card like you're literally printing money at this point in any segment of the hobby let alone one that for for wrestling there's still so much room to grow like going back to twenty two prism like there are still black one on ones that are that are surfacing in a regular clip here because people are ripping cases now that it's come down in price and so on and so forth graded high grade versions of these even more so you know just even stuff from the original tops eras the two thousand one royal rumble set the the wcw autographs like all of these goat sets these iconic sets are just going up hand and fist because it's everybody recognizing that this is the trend and in tech i work in technology and everybody says you never get fired for buying you know for buying certain things like it's just they're constants in the industry whether it's additional storage for your computers or whatever it is but and i'm not gonna get too far into it because it won't make sense for ninety five percent of the audience here but i think the yeah but for the for the card industry buying the best of the best will never get you fired like you'll never get in trouble buying michael jordan buying these guys because for the most part a lot of them are done wrestling they're they're done with that part of their career and now the entire hobby is circling around this area knowing that they can really have a constant like those mickey mantle nineteen fifty two tops that everybody's been talking about for fifty years are still going up in value because people are recognizing hey i don't have one for my collection i want it and it's not even about making money it's just about like i want these for my collection before they're too expensive to buy right jordan fleer eighty sixes right now are just record numbers right now and those are ones who are what almost five hundred thousand dollars the psa four hundred thousand i know can spot one in march less than that and it took a while but it was a new label too so i know those have taken a little bit of to catch up to all the other grades selling now you're seeing all like psa was it fives are doing ten k now i was buying those in march for five k ridiculous not even joking so you know that's something i think a lot of people go to the national and go i wanna leave with the jordan fleeter rookie that that's always been the case those are a lot more everybody rarely have them versus a man on fifty two but everybody wants one of those cards griffey upper deck eighty nine those have shot up no offense everybody wants one of those you know i i think you're gonna see more of that continue and for us strategy wise this year we're bringing a lot of wrestling i have decided i'm probably not gonna take i'll take flawless with me but definitely not any star swatches and i don't think i'm gonna sell any hogan stone cold taker on us i think i'm gonna hold those back couple of the big names like cena as well just because i i just don't see them going down they're dried up i mean the cases are over ten thousand cases last thing yeah i think i think that so i have saved searches you have saved searches on ebay yes like as we get into the three four months from release on any of these sets those searches don't light up anymore correct and so i think like like if you're holding cards that you know are rare desirable and of desirable wrestlers like there is zero reason to put those out right now mhmm and i think at the national people are gonna be are walking around hunting for those cards at wrestling card takeover i know there's gonna be conversations between people sitting at those tables hey do you have this do you have this do you have this and those are the types of situations that we're gonna see just flourish through the rest of the year and a set like topps dynasty is going to come out in wrestling we already know that we've seen what has happened in baseball with the release this year we've seen what's happened with the soccer version of it we've seen what's happened with the f one version of it like there are goat sets that just like a shohei ohtani a twenty twenty six what is this his eighth year like in twenty twenty six like we're talking close to six figures just for a a out of ten autographs nuts it's just crazy seeing what we're seeing it it yeah doesn't make sense to me i get it but it just to to see what they're doing now it's like oh my gosh it's just record numbers yeah so i think like if you if you are sitting on a treasure trove of of all those panini hits the golds from prism are like everybody's hunting for them the ringside stuff from select the the the immaculate you know patch autographs and jumbo patch autographs the impeccable numbers the like all of those cards that are just driving the like not even we're not even talking about kabooms in downtowns at this point we're talking about guys that have massive appeal with their desirable cards rarer the better and just like it's just wrestling is is in a different spot because it's so cheap as you said so people can make their money go further especially when they're coming from football and basketball so to go spend ten thousand dollars in basketball you're walking away with like mid floor level stuff ten thousand dollars in wrestling gets you the best of the best i'm gonna say something that hits home with you because i know you're an f one guy i just moved i had not only a twenty twenty one dynasty f one k sealed i had a twenty twenty first year oh shit i just moved those in a big deal but it moved into a goat card so i made a lot of wax to acquire something which i'll share after the national because i'm acquiring it there but again you know i wanted to continue to hold a case like that long term because i really think that f one dynasty is gonna eventually be a ten thousand hour case which is insane for a five box case but we're seeing what ohtanis are doing and we know that lewis hamilton and max verstappen you know overseas market is insane worldwide so but again going back to the goat subject it's one of those things where i pivoted goat wax i guess you could say flawless you know big name products into a goat card that i think that will continue to go up as well so sometimes it's about pivoting one goat aspect to another especially any industry but wrestling i love your point you spent ten thousand dollars in wrestling you're you're probably gonna get a lot for your money ten thousand dollars in basketball and goats you you ain't gonna get too far yeah let's do some quick sales here this was another card that sold as part of the golden auction where the dual autograph sold this is the ria ripley one of one tops now with the mommy's always on top inscription as a piece of the math from the netflix premiere it's a awesome photo i know you're not a huge fan of tops now because of your experience but this is the second not saying i like the cards i just don't know i know i know i know i don't wanna order anymore i know i'm just giving you shit but like the this is the second tops now one of one to sell for more than five figures and this one sold for ten thousand one hundred and twenty six dollars in that recent saturday auction that just ended i love this card i think it's a a piece of history with the netflix premiere but the inscription just adds a lot great photo she won the title from liv morgan at that event so like it was just it was perfect storm for rhea ripley as i said her cards are bulletproof at this point and man this is just a an absolute banger i i think this undersold i really do considering knowing what some of her other one on ones have gone for do you know do we know who won it do we know off top of her head okay i i think this under for the inscription on there for everything it is i i think this went under i think this is closer to knowing her market and owner trends full of fifteen thousand dollar cards whoever got this i think got a really good price if they're gonna flip it they're gonna make some money they're gonna keep it they should be happy with the price they paid yeah and mommy always on top the mommy's always on top cards have been in finest and a few others they haven't surfaced no so like her steve got one of the inscriptions that surfaced i was really happy to see that i did see the rhea bloody ripley inscription from chrome surface i think one of the collectors ended up with that and the rhea collectors and it's changed hands a few times so i can't remember who holds it now but it's an amazing card from from twenty twenty five chrome the rest of them are are still in packs as far as we know cactus jack with a little drawing the stuff from this year's chrome the super fractures hasn't surfaced so that that card from from the red brand twenty twenty six auto is still out there like these reinscriptions are getting harder and harder to find steve got the one from exalted which was great but like i think ria like i said her market is is primed to continue to to go up as long as she is on the trajectory that she's on so mhmm i to your point i think this might be a little bit low but it's a second five figure sale for a top snout card in as many months it's kinda crazy bianca belair was also not the only wrestlemania patch autograph to sell damian priest sold on fanatics collect for seventy eight hundred dollars with buy it with buyers premium i think that people will point to this sale and and sort of present the counterpoint that we were making but here's something that you've mentioned in the previous segment which is i just don't think that wrestlers without a competitive market are gonna fare as well in a lot of these circumstances and yes damien priest is a former champion but he's kind of been relegated back to the mid card and like he's not doing the stuff on tv that i think people wanna see he's got the look he's got the moves but that's about it i'm not as impressed with his character work as he probably needs to be in wrestlemania i'm sorry in in wwe a wrestlemania patch autograph where he did wrestle but i don't think it was like an important enough match for people to remember but there's just not enough competition for damian priest card same with jey uso same with some of these other guys very you know prominent wrestlers on tv and popular wrestlers on tv but from a collector perspective maybe their markets aren't as big i said each of these cars will have its own market this is one that sort of fell well below the radar i gotta assume this is the highest selling damian priest by a long by a million by a mile i i think this ended a route where where it's honestly worth considering what the other ones we know of at the lower tier he's above a lower tier but he's still a mid card i think what's he doing stuff at triple a now which is good you know i've always liked the time there yeah the the the issue with priests is that it's a little too late i mean he's in his forties from my understanding yeah it's gonna be hard to get more championships if they even put it back on him still an iconic wrestlemania cash in on the money in the bank on drew mcintyre obviously great story there i've i've liked what damien priest has done but there's not a crazy there probably is a couple of priest collectors but they're not like spending crazy amount of money this they're not used to it yeah they're spending like fifty bucks on one of his autograph yeah i got audios ten thousand dollars i think i bought his flawless auto to five the finishers psa ten on comsii for less than two hundred bucks it was like okay for a psa you know like you can get him fairly affordable so i think this about where we need to go i think this is a best case six thousand like lowest sorry low case high case ten thousand hour card so i think it's right in the middle which is about what what you expect with somebody of his caliber yeah and i like i i think drew mcintyre is the poster child for this segment of wrestling cards yep like he is probably he's a male wrestler accomplished male wrestler mhmm who you know has collectors but like you said aren't used to spending ten thousand dollars on a drew mcintyre card even a super factor autograph with an inscription but like and i know a few of them there's a guy in germany who has a ton of them heavy cards is his name he's did help me out in a bunch of stuff great guy like i think for for these types of guys for these types of segments damien priest is like probably right in the middle drew mcintyre is right at the top and he barely cleared ten thousand dollars i think this is this is pretty pretty much where it should be mhmm speaking of twenty nineteen transcendent we were just covering that in the goat sex the oh my god in the goat sex segments and goat sex i i yes i realized what i said this is the oversized dual cut autograph of macho man randy savage and sherry martell i think this is the second or third time this card is sold this card sold so many times i can't get it times but it keeps selling and it keeps selling and it sells for fifty one hundred dollars via auction on ebay earlier this month and i i like listen the the the oversized cut autograph space is good i love that they have great photos on this card but because it's an oversized card i think it probably isn't as or it's not it's not a single macho man you know it's it's not as getting the type of money that it probably deserves and these oversized cut autographs are awesome cards in hand i have the four horsewomen one and it's amazing but you know collectors are just particular about these types of things right yeah i'm not a huge so my thing's always been if you had autograph cards on card or sticker i don't need a cut of you i know i'm very wide flawless is up right now for an insane number why do i need to spend three to five thousand dollars on a pretty wide cut that i don't even think looks that good the the card itself looks good with the cut you could have probably found a better one like why would i go somewhere else that might buy this it's labeled to steve yeah to steve yeah buy it if your name's steve then yeah i get get it but i'm i'm glad i acquired the macho man tops wcw nwo ps eight autograph last year at the national for my collection for significantly less i get it it's a one on one it's a cut at sherry martell but to me i'm not a big oversized collector i'm not a big memorabilia collector do i have some stuff sure you know but it's not something that is me but do does this look awesome for what it is absolutely it's beautifully done couple of big sales from tops royalty as well we had two of the pillar pillars of greatness autograph one of ones probably two of the biggest names in the set liv morgan one of one sold for thirty six hundred fifty three dollars via auction on ebay and then stephanie vakaire sold for three thousand fifty dollars the one of one both of these cards were pulled within like a an hour of each other i believe on phonetics live or on whatnot i can't remember didn't brando pull the vakir if i'm correct i think so yeah i think it was oh one of them he pulled one of them but like so card shop live pulled one and i think maybe mma shark pulled the other i can't even remember breaks and takes i can't remember but either way like these on so there's two sets from royalty or two types of cards from royalty that are just popping off right now one of them is the royal decree set which is the acetate on card autograph rhea ripley goes for like seven hundred dollars the coronation autographs are the acetate cards for the veteran side of it the rock isn't a redemption but his sells for a ton the triple h just shipped that looks awesome got one in it's a beautiful card by the way those acetate cards from royalty i have the becky lynch from the the the champions one like there those acetate cards are going absolutely nuts as they should the other set that's going nuts there are these pillars of greatness which i think is one of the better looking sets that royalty did so i think like both of these cards selling for three thousand dollars might be a little low actually but that's and that's why you don't sell things at auction you just gotta be patient and take the offer when it comes but yeah to see both of them sell pretty right there with three thousand and yeah thirty six hundred seems somebody had the same idea on both of those cards so but they're liv has a great picture vakira has a great picture they're beautiful cards with the foil i like it so i think somebody got a deal on both of these considering what vakir's one on ones we're bringing i get she's signing more and she's off tv you know this is significantly less than a lot of the one on ones that we know that sold in markets so and again beautiful set the the way these pop it just stands out for the one on ones i'm gonna tell you the one on ones in in this product are hard to hit we we have had several customers i think we're down to our last few box of royalty we had two or three guys probably in the past month rip combined probably twenty boxes in shop i know they hit a couple but and they're hard they're not easy i mean it makes you those wrestlemania patches more harder and valuable to get in my opinion yeah for sure speaking going back to twenty nineteen transcended and and the the market performance of brock lesnar being what it is his so it seems like somebody is going in like selling through their stash of twenty nineteen transcendent which i think is a mistake because i think it's one of the best sets tops has ever made it's absolutely gorgeous cards they're framed they're gold framed and they look great this is the one of one brock lesnar red autograph it's sold for two thousand dollars via best offer and you know brock's having a day right now because he's back on tv people know he's about to retire give or take given what happened at wrestlemania and like selling this for two thousand dollars considering that his superfractor from cosmic sold for like twenty four hundred or whatever i i think this was a mistake but i'm not gonna get involved in the minutiae of that but like the these cards the red autographs especially from twenty nineteen transcendent are so awesome in hand with the with the red foil on the the name and stuff like that the gold frame i love these cards yeah i it's crazy lesnar for for the longest time his cards his one on ones were never easy to sell they really weren't obviously news and all that stuff but that went out the window but he was always a tough sale now we're seeing the he getting the recognition he deserves for the best combat athlete in history arguably and what he was in wwe and we're watching potentially the end of his career but man what a career what a career this man's had and the respect i mean this guy almost wouldn't made the vikings team without playing football since like what high score or whatever he was in a motorcycle accident i think he probably would have been like the third or fourth of the offense exactly it's crazy he's just a freak of nature so again first year transcendent beautiful cards i agree i think this one undersold i think they're gonna bring they're they're gonna be bringing it back at some point they have to they have to so i think these original debut cards from transcendent are only gonna go up vince mcmahon was in the set those cards have been going up all like even the rollins the the becky stuff has been going up charlotte flair has been going up like rhea ripley has a base card in in one of these sets the twenty twenty set like those have been were selling for like a hundred dollars a pop for years now they're going for like two three hundred bucks mhmm like i think like anything transcendent because of what has been building on the baseball side and eventually they'll probably do it in basketball and football as well like once the transcendent name comes to be a force of nature in cards these debut ones are going to be the the set that people go back to all on card great great set overall and this is austin the austin card specifically probably one of the best looking stone cold steve austin cards ever made it really is alright let's do a quick takeover update acknowledge our sponsors oh wrong hand there we go and we are less than a couple of weeks this is gonna be an all out amazing event i'm so excited to see it come together all the hard work that's been going in by everybody is really gonna pay off and i think the best part about it is frame is for the community it's something that the wrestling card community has never really had to this level and it's well deserved in my opinion for the fan the collectors and the fans and the loyalty of the wrestling card community there's just nobody better than the wrestling card collectors yep absolutely alright we are gonna finish off this week and we're gonna try our best to keep this under an hour here oh we're close we're close we're we're so close so one of the things we've talked about during the course of this podcast when a big sale happens how should different hobby personas the collectors the dealers and the investors react are there aspects that they should consider that are different than most of the common reactions like i think the most common reaction whenever a big sale happens is okay that's sold for that how much is mine worth what are some of the other things that you think big sales should invoke in these different personas i really think you know obviously you're gonna have everybody's got an opinion oh that went too high that went too low that's insane like i i think it's just great to see that the awareness coming into this aspect of the industry this part of the hobby i mean everybody's gonna think differently there's just there's no convincing anybody differently but i i think the persona should be it's what's best for the the collector to where if that's sold to a true collector no matter what it went for at the end of the day if you're the collector and you want it no matter if you had to pay more than ever you should just be happy for that person you know should be thrilled that they got that for their collection i think that's the most important thing it's like you know i i run a business i'm here to buy and sell yes you know damn a collector and i wanna see as many collectors get cards into their collection and out of the hands of the market it looks like the opportunities are there that we don't know if that stone cold rocks could ever be sold again we don't know if it's getting locked up will it go for more we don't know i mean these are things that only time will tell but at the end of the day my biggest thing is at the end of the day if a collector gets it that's all that should matter yeah i think from a reaction standpoint like being being excited and happy i think is is one reaction that i would like to see more of like so many people are like oh i'm priced out or all this or that or whatever like if a big sale happens like just be excited that you were a a part of the early adopters that you are one of those people that probably passively benefits if you own wrestling cards if you're listening to this podcast i'm guessing you do so i think like that's that's a good point from ryan's take of being like yeah it's it's it may not be your win but it's a win for the overall community and i think that brings more spotlight it brings more eyes it brings more attention all that is good i would also say that like taking stock of your own collection on a regular basis is really important and if you are seeing specific things happen like these kabooms selling for five grand when they used to sell for one like if you are like we all of us who have were around when revolution was released probably we're in a ton of those case breaks we probably have some of them at some point if you are part of those wrestlers that were on the checklist like maybe that's the time to start taking inventory of what you have and what needs to be moved but it's also like from an investor standpoint if you're coming into this market and you're seeing big sale after big sale after big sale like maybe recognizing that there is something stirring here and that this is a place where that money belongs i think collectors are quick to sort of jump on the bandwagon that's like oh that'll never sell for that much money again like when the rock sold at two hundred and twenty seven k that was initial reactions like oh if they resell it it's never gonna be worth more i think that might be changing now so i think like there's a lot of different situations here that could result from these big sales but if you're a dealer if you're a collector just especially if you have a big collection you're ready to move stuff that's that's that's a a win for you but but more importantly it's probably a lesson to hold more than anything mhmm and like we all don't know when the peak is happening the peak will happen it always happens but we don't know if that peak will lead to a downfall followed by a larger peak like we did see after twenty twenty three everything went down now everything is kinda back up again like it's probably a lesson to look at this more long term than we ever have in the history of our hobby it's like we don't need to make short term quick snap decisions anymore we can take stock we can react more effectively if we take a longer term approach on a lot of this stuff and say hey i'm a collector first i'm gonna hold my stuff and if it continues to go in this direction here's my exit plan here's my outnumber or whatever it might be right yeah hey it's funny you collector dealer investor like you wanna know i i touch all three of these because yeah i i i love to collect however i am a shop i'm gonna be set up at the nashville as a dealer but i'm also looking to buy things to invest in i think that there are certain things like i said i'm gonna continue to buy flawless i think the kabooms as crazy as they're getting still have room to go up they were one per master case of sixteen you can find the product anywhere they did it one time how i wish they would have done golds and greens would have been awesome but that was it it was a once and ton so i make those decisions every day do i when we buy it's like whenever something comes to be card wise i gotta go look here we gotta siphon it out three ways is this going to me is it going to shop is it going to nashville is it gonna go back long term you know i think those personas are all three that fit me and not trying to make this about me but i have to make those decisions each one of those a lot of people do a lot more people now than ever because it's so much easier now to sell and you gotta decide as a seller dealer and investor when is the time to sell i think there's certain products that still are way down here but i think there's certain thing it's like get rid of that asap so i have to make those decisions daily do i always make the right decision heck no you know i don't know what the future's gonna tell i don't know what this roller coaster is gonna bring but there's times that i've sold stuff last year i sold a ton of flawless this year i've been buying it back for more than i sold last year and i'm like i think it's gonna go up so again you have to you have to think that mindset on a lot of things if you're a straight collector then you don't have to worry about those other aspects yeah not as much and i think like as as you see the data recognize the three things who sold it where did it sell and what was the timing of the sale the platform of the sale stuff like that because all of those things contribute to the eventual final value of these cards that is shown at the comp and card ladder there's a lot of things in that that you don't see like are they trading in other cards to consign to help pay for that card like bingo we are in a bigger spot now there's manipulation that's gonna happen in a lot of different levels because we're just in that space now like we're no longer the deep dark corner of the universe we are front and center in some cases especially with this rock and stone cold sale like that was one of the bigger sales for that auction but still well below the the grail floor for what was sold on that elite auction but still up there for the first time since you know a long time from from it's been on gold sold for a hundred and twenty six k and twenty three if i'm correct you know what i'm saying it's been a while it's been a while to see the card of this magnitude go for nearly six figures yep alright so next week we are going to have our national convention extravaganza episode we're gonna have brett joining us we're gonna have brian thz sports cards joining us ryan's gonna have his last show before he heads off to chicago i am so excited i am so excited for not only for this show but for the for the weeks that will follow it will air this saturday before everybody heads out to chicago we'll do probably do some other quick follow ups and other things like that but i i to think that we've been planning now since january like basically since january for this day you've been planning even longer than that about a year it's been about a year in the making so yes and we're ending today so you can get back to work because i know how much work you put into this just not just for our bi crew but for your team and for your family and for everything and i think it'll pay off hopefully for for us as much as it will be for you but until then we will see you next week hey gulp see you later
